First, that was really nice.  Second, beautiful guitars.  Third, that was really nice :)....

Ok, forgive me for sort of being off topic.   Here is a perfect example of why it would be nice to be able view the helix edit without the helix unit connected.  I would love to SEE what he has put together.  I should be working of course, but I want to think about important stuff so of course I came to the Helix site.  You have done a great job on this and I would love to see you signal chain, etc....

ok, I'm done.  Thank you for sharing, very nicely done.  The tones were dead on and the playing was very clean!

Thanks so much. I understand what you're saying. Here is a screenshot at least to give you an impression. I really find that adding that custom IR, the Tube Mic Pre and the LA compressor at the end makes a positive improvement on any patch. I always use that. As for the amp settings, based on an interview with Don Felder, where he claimed it was a tweed amp fully dimed, I just did that for this patch

Hi JazzInc, great IR's! Thank you.

Just wondering what some of the names represent ie speakers etc. I'm new to the Helix world.

    OWNHAMMER 412 SLM M75 MIX.

    MANY THANKS

    Bboy19

THanks, they are custom IRS of a G12H and weber alnico blue mix using a Neumann U67 and a Royer 121 with 10% EQ and a little bit of room recorded with a stereo pair of Neumann KM84s

The second one is a mix of the weber alnico blue with a basketweave G12M speaker

The last one is from Ownhammer, the free M75 custom IR mix

That was fabulous!  What amp & Cab did you use?

Thanks!!! I'll do you one better. Here is the custom patch and custom IR I used:

For the solos, I enabled a tube screamer, and for the telecaster parts, I added the script mod phaser pedal. For the reggae rhythm, I enabled the Wah pedal in a fixed position and for the supporting electric guitar lines, I added a little bit of chorus. Here is the download link for the Helix Patch and the custom IR I created: https://www.dropbox.com/s/enyre15p7n6eu07/Dimed Tweed LesP.hlx?dl=0

Be sure to use the custom IR and save it in position 33 Love to hear your feedback!

  4. #coronagoals. I had set myself the goal to master all the parts in the epic final solo of Hotel California in my downtime during this crisis. I found out there are 11 parts!! (6 electric guitars, 2 acoustic guitars, 1 bass part, the organ part and of course programming drums). Well, it took a little longer than expected.

I recorded all electric guitars and the bass using line 6 helix into an Apollo X8. I recorded the acoustic guitars with a stereo set of Neumann KM184s, finally I recorded the organ with a Roland RD-2000 and used the Luna Shape instrument to get the right tone, and I mixed everything in the new Universal Audio Luna DAW.

I used a custom patch based on the tweed amp with a custom IR for all the electric guitars and I use the standard Cali 1 bass preset for the bass guitar.

  5. I am still so much in love with my helix! For my solo gigs, I have now gotten a great telefunken M80 dynamic mic, and very good acoustic pick up for my acoustic guitar.

Now I have access to an acoustic, my variax electric and microphone, all plugged in at the same time in the three inputs, so I can switch set ups with a the single foot switch between songs. I was never able to do this with my Axe FX II

I am playing with different vocal chain effects, and I am looking for any and all suggestions. On the Helix, I am using the studio tube preamp, two LA2A (la studio comp) compressors in series (one set to limit, the next to compression), EQ, plate reverb and a optional chorus in the vocal path.

Does anyone have other suggestions and setting advice? Especially on the serial compression that is often used.

  6. How will I know what IR to use with what preset?

For the fender clean tones, you can find the proper IRs attached to the first post, and locations 35, 36, and 33.

For the other presets, you really need to experiment using the beautiful Helix foot editing while you keep playing. For the High gain presets, I suggest using the G12M/SM57 IRs in the folder. For the other tones, I suggest experimenting with the other IRs, which are all variations on the same theme of either a Weber alnico with a G12M or G12H with a G 12M using different microphones and different EQ.

  7. Thanks Jim.

Is this the same preset as the one in the Ultimate John Mayer preset thread? Or if not, do they both use the same IR? Or if not, do you have the IR that goes with the John Mayer one?

    Thanks again.

Could you guys try these links? Here are all my presets. Mostly from a few months ago:

    Hi there,

being a big fan of the two rock cleans I'd love to check your preset but the website of the link above seems to be unavailable at the moment. Is there a chance you could fix that, JazzInc?

Or could maybe somebody load the preset up again somewhere else?

Since I found your other thread with a two rock-like clean preset your Homepage seems to be quite interesting for further inspiriation though ;)

    Thanks and best regards!

Sounds very interesting to me as well. The download says "temporary unavailable". I'll keep checking back, would love to try to patch! Thanks for posting.

    Hi there,

no way downloading the patch. Is there someone so kind to send it to me by email?

    matteozucchi88@gmail.com

    thanks

If anyone has the hlx file, I'd love a copy too. It appears that the website is down. I can grab the wav files that are attached, but the hlx file isn't.

cjw5281 at yahoo dot com if anyone has it. Thanks.

  9. This tone is great!  Thank you JazzInc!  I am curious, is it possible to get this tone without using so many blocks?  I need to add more effects to this patch but don't have the DSP and routing space.  I absolutely love the John Mayer / Two Rock clean tone and have been using your tricks / settings to get close, but can't get as sweet of a tone as your exact patch.  Does it really take blending the 2 amps (twin & deluxe reverb) to get there?  Apparently so, but thought I would ask.  I will keep trying.  Thanks again for the great patch and insight.

Thanks man. I don't get the exact tone without this many blocks, but close. Try to experiment.

  10.

By the way, for people wondering what the return one and two are for, this is something I really highly recommended. I bought a Bluetooth receiver and plugged it into the return 1 and 2, so now I can play backing tracks or use the amazing slowdowner to write out fast solos, or just learn new songs for the band

And if you want a little more hair on your clean tone, just reset the power amp settings to their default on both amps

The way it sounds now through my atomic clr, it's very close to my two rock clean channel

  11. JazzInc, thanks for the very nice and interesting patch. After giving it a listen, I noticed some interesting ideas in the patch that I thought might be useful to write down. I started just capturing these in my own notes (Evernote) but then decided to share at Analyzing JazzInc's SRV Little Wing Patch. I hope you don't mind. Feel free to correct anything I got wrong or missed. And again, thanks for your great contributions.

Wow, Jim, you honour me greatly by taking the time for your analysis. After reading your blog, you just about nailed my thoughts. You almost nailed all the IR recipes as well. Here are some more thoughts behind the tone:

-There is also a mid boost, which simulates the mid-cap bypasses you see on such amps. Can be handy for cutting through a dense mix.

-The 35 impulse response adds some room sound and indeed is a little brighter on the darker amp

-The LA2As just add a little something even when they're not compressing, and they do take the edge off. Same goes for the tube preamp. Basically, I do what I would to in the studio: get some great speakers, great mics, a good preamp and a good compressor to capture the sound of the chain before it. I also really like the Emphasis control on the LA2A to tweak response. (same goes for the power amp characteristics on both amps to tweak feel and response.)

-The double amp setup gives a lot of options. For instance, the treble on the Twin is a bit too much for me, so I like to tone that down and bring in the thicker, sweeter treble on the DeLuxe. Vice Versa for the Presence. For different applications these two amps can also be used to their strengths together.

-I really feel you need very good IRs to get the best out of the Helix

  12. I am still really happy with my Helix after two months! After a LOT of playing and testing, this is my ultimate Fender Clean. Very balanced and clear.

Even one of my critical friends, a session player who didn't like my axe-fx 2, was very impressed with my setup.

I use a Fender Strat with Don Mare Super Sport pickups into the Helix, which is amplified by the best FRFR i've ever owned, the very flat and transparent Atomic CLR Wedge.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

-Download the patch and the two custom IRs. (right-click and save as on the links)

-Upload the IRs to slots 33 and 35 (check the names).

    -Upload the preset file.

    -Play!!

-Let me know what you think!

PS: It's quite a bit louder than the factory presets, so adjust your volume accordingly
