  1. Native 1.5 has the same content as Helix 2.5! Revisions after 2.5 are bug fixes for the hardware not new content.

You are missing nothing as far as I am aware.

  2. Variax requires a slightly different approach to a 'real' guitar but it can sound totally awesome with little effort with the Helix. (I have a 59P)

It's a magic combo in my probably easily pooh-pooh-able opinion but I do A>B comparisons against 'real' guitars into whatever valve amp or sound I am trying to get and it never falls short.

It is worth while remembering that not every strat sounds the same, not every....OK you get the point here.

  3. I grew to hate my HD500X - I jumped straight there from an X3 Live which I loved but outgrew - and the Helix for me is night and day in one unit compared to HD500X.

I have to admit though that I don't use it in the same way that you would. That said I am 100% happy with Helix and it can only get better with every revision (or goody bundle as I like to think of them haha)

  4. I'm lost. Did PearlJammy edit his original post? I hate to add fuel to the fire here but when i first read it, i had no indication that anybody could be possibly offended. After seeing a majority of the responses here i reread his post -probably multiple times- to see if i'd missed something. He seems direct and i can't find a clue to why any adult would un-constructively badger him.

To stay on topic, i agree i would like some added flexibility to my Helix. I personally hardly utilize the Mode or Tap switches currently but i've just never paid much attention to them until now. They'd be a welcome addition to the Stomp layout, or any configuration for that matter. Im glad to see this idea is 'In Review' on idea scale as the flexibility could be a big improvement if implemented into an upcoming Helix update. I have high hopes for this.

    You ARE PearlJammy!!

  5. Possible causes:

    1) The buffer level is too low to manage the amount of streams you are sending to it - Increasing the buffer a little may resolve this

    2) You have an issue with DPC Latency. An app such a Latency Mon will help you diagnose what app/driver/service is causing the issue. I had an issue with LAN drivers a few times!

    3) Your USB port is noisy - this is very common. You may need something like the Audioquest Jitterbug (or suchlike) to attempt to mitigate the issue.

This obviously is by no means a conclusive list but is 3 things I have seen in the past few years. Good luck!

  6. So the main problem with this is the reason for posting this. "I'm posting in the user forum for a product I'm not going to buy"

I guess it's valid from the perspective of polling the active user base for levels of agreement maybe looking for us all to say "No it's not an issue and you will enjoy the Helix" to help him/her make the leap of purchase.

It certainly is a strange behaviour. I for example wouldn't go on to the user forum for Porsche and announce I wasn't buying one because I don't like the price.

  7. I strongly believe that Mimiq uses small delays and pitch differences with a bit of frequency sculpting to create its effect. (The settings the demonstrator is using in the OPs video is very HAAS-like; not a great sound imho but in a mix (live or recorded) it would sound fine I'm sure)

I think Pitch Echo gets really close to this. I will have a play about tonight and see if I can get some presets together and maybe if I can be arsed record some of them.

A quick setting (updated from my original post slightly) is as follows:

    Pitch at zero

Cents +/- around 1.5 to give a variance

    20-30ms delay

    20% feedback

Adjust mix and Scale to suit (I have mix at 20% and spread at 50%)

  8. I've looked at the 880s and would be interested to compare them to the 770s and hear the effect of the semi-open vs closed construction.

I have listened thru 80ohm DT770s and I own a pair of DT880pro 250ohm. The DT770s @ 80 ohm seem like decent cans but there is a loss of frequency and a boxiness that colours the sound. The DT880s are all round ace and are way more popular than the DT990s which are considered to be overly bright and unsuitable for long sessions.

  9. Hey I haven't upgraded to the new FW yet, holding off a bit longer, but I was wondering does that 3 ban compressor have a stereo separation parameter for each band?

Sorry for the late reply. No it doesn't although I'm sure you could make it happen (depending on the application you have in mind) using a bit of routing trickery. Each band has a separate level so in theory you should be able to isolate each band and route it how you please using mutiple blocks.

    Cheers

  10. As much as I kind of grimaced when I saw Big Bottom was coming to Helix I have to say that its great played for a couple of hours just on that one model. The 3 band compressor is excellent too; it tightens things up nicely.

Having Workbench HD connectivity finally via Helix is brilliant (it appears you can't run it in tandem with Edit at this point - one app will disconnect the other)

Need to spend some time with the other new stuff...

A+ for this firmware Line 6

  11. This might be obvious but did you install the new USB drivers that are required to make Helix work with Workbench HD? or rather are you sure it installed OK? Might be worth checking.

    Cheers

  12. @Steevo

You have a bad day or anything ? I dont know why the pointless hate comment at the end but ok i will take that one if you feel better now.

First of all i see you point here and i have to admit that i didn't take that into consideration and it sound pausible to me.

So that is in fact a point for you and im sure that is nothing i can't get used to.

Second im not a fan boy that tries to troll someone. I don't even know where you get an idea like that.

If I were a troll why the heck would i spend that amount of money only to come here and tell you the system is lollipop.

I didn't even said anything like that.

Only thing i said is that im disappointed in the lack of realism and diversity in the effect section.

But that may be because i'm not even used to get the full potential out of the system yet.

So yeah i guess i have to do alot of sound sculpting with this system to get the sound im searching for.

And im willing to learn how to get to that point.

Believe me im serious about the Helix why would i waste Money and Time if i wasn't.

So yeah cheers and i dont wish you anything bad like u did ;)

I'm pretty curious what you wrote at the first attempt ^^

OK..Pointless hate comment? Did you actually read what I wrote? If you read correctly then as a genuine Helix user you will see I bare you no ill will whatsoever but as usual the focus was on the part of my post which is of no use to you. The computer melting part was only if you are a dirty troll. Trolls on this forum start their threads very much like you did this one. I'm sure I wasn't alone in thinking this.

Anyways I see I got -1 reputation from 'ChubbyJerk' and 'Fazer1k143' for trying to help. Good job ChubbyJerk and Fazer1k143. Did either of you manage to add any advice for our new member ZSchneidi? No you didn't...feel free to down vote this post too.

My original post was a rant about trolls then a rant about peoples approach to Helix based on poor YouTube demonstrations where they didn't bother to learn much about it before putting it alongside their usual brand of device. Then some actual advice was thrown in along the same lines as what I wrote but more about IRs and EQ.

You can take what I posted or leave it but if you are going to take anything at least take the important bits. There are lots of threads of discussion on here covering a wide range of Helix related topics (some of them actually delve into more technical areas which is good) and a lot of generous content from helpful people.

edit: changed 'then' to 'them' in last paragraph

  13. I typed a big long answer to this then just deleted it all as it wasn't pleasant although it was informative. Here is a much shorter, more polite, less informative version:

Take what you think you know about Helix and scrap it all.

Concentrate on gain staging and you should try IRs if you want that instantly usable baked in sound. Remember it won't have that amp in the room sound as it is not an amp in the room. Have a listen to isolated guitar tracks from well known artists/bands and look for tracks you know. You will be surprised at how 'bad/fizzy' they sound - although they don't actually sound bad at all.

Using a microphone/s to record a guitar cab is EXACTLY what Helix simulates and it does it well (including the HX cabs); There is work to be done to any sound that has been recorded and anything with as much energy as guitar tracks (especially high gain tracks) will sound harsh/fizzy in isolation. low and high pass cuts need to be made to tame sound somewhat with EQ where required (if at all).

I feel somewhat you didn't research this a lot as you stated in your post or you would have seen this same stale topic covered many times by new comers who fail to get the sound in their head fed back to their ears. It's a learning and experience thing.

If you are a genuine Helix user then welcome to the forum and feel free to ask questions (try not to be quite as negative eh?) however if you are one of the other brands fan boys trolling us then I hope your PC melts.

    Cheers

  14. In the first bank of clips 1,3,5,7 sound better than 2,4,6,8 as the evens sound dull in actual fact.

In the second set there is very little difference at all between them

In the third set 2,4,6,7 are brighter than 1,3,5,7. Your hi cut is clearly too much on the odds.

Why did you use the same IR for all amps? The frequency output from each amp is different (that's why we use different speakers) and also IRs have frequency data baked in that may not suit each amp type.

The stock cabs are absolutely fine. They are meant to simulate what a mic'd cab sounds like; they are not what a cab in the room sounds like and not what a finished processed sound is like. Helix gives you the full sound to play with and not some pre-eq'd and predecided frequency range as you get with other units. Comparing the stock cabs to IRs is pointless as they are very different in nature.

I listened to these clips on Beyerdynamic DT880pro headphones via the Helix.
