  1. Yeah it may be Apple's fault unfortunately. i do agree that Line6 is very late with finding this out and not doing a thing to fix it. I have other interfaces that work perfectly. There is nothing special about L6 interface that they couldn't also be working. Cubase may need some lower functionality that is now broken or gone. But also possible to work around. Logic works fine for me. So Cubase could as well. Both of these companies have ignored the beta and hosed some of their customers. I am done with Cubase because of it. And will not be relying on L6 as an interface any longer. For those having trouble doing driver updates and registering packs, just use another computer to update the drivers and register the packs. It's a quick, easy workaround. Interface-wise I wouldn't wait around if you need it to work anytime soon. It sucks but that's the way it is. I suspect that there is a pretty small team at L6 overall and bet they outsource their OS, driver work. I am personally not waiting on L6 who may be waiting on Apple. It might be a long wait.
  2. you may benefit from trying to get your distortion as an on/off on a single patch. It takes some experimentation to get it right level and eq'wise but is possible.
  3. I used a Windows machine to get drivers updated and license installed. HDEdit works in El Cap after that.
  4. 2 other things to look into: - check the little toggle next to the footpedal. In your setup you want amp - Input impedence
  5. Check page 4 of settings as well. You can set appropriate out settugs here. Basucally whether or not you are plugging in on front of amp or thru effexts loop, or dirext to studio/pa etc.
  6. Also, plug headphones into hd and verify sound there first. Perhaps you system i/o isn't correctly set. Settings -> page 3.
  7. Couple of questions: where on amp are you plugging in? What setting is your toggle switch for Out? Amp or line? Recommend using effects return on amp and therefore using line setting.
  8. FYI: You can see the amp knob positions if you double enter on an amp. Not helpful when adjusting volumes from patch to patch but otherwise very useful. Would by nice to have this screen as one of the main views to toggle through.
  9. Ah, i missed that. Lousy eye. It still doesn't help with case wher you have the knob up high and switch to patch with a lower volume. If you turn the volume knob it jumps to that volume. Hopefully you were prepared for it. If not it can be quite a shock. One thing i do is turn a different knob to get knob display to come up that isn't volume. I do wish the screen stayed on the knob view longer. Thanks for the tip!
  10. Hopefully this isn't a tired topic - certainly not meant to start a gripe session. Since the knobs are fixed position and adjusting knobs, switching to a new patch leaves the knobs out of sync with the physical position. You get used to it through use but for times like asjusting relative patch to patch volume levels you have to take care to turn the main down, then get a feel for the knob position. Then turn it back up and fine tune the relative volume to other patches. One thing I do to make this easier is to only adjust the volume of one patch at a time and check it with others around it but only asjust the one so you don't lose the knob position and get surprised by any drastic volume difference when grabbing a knob which is drastically higher physically than the patch. I have tried quickly tapping the knob to not change it but get a read on the positions of the patch. I haven't got a knaxk for that yet. Also wondering if there is acway of selecting that display in another way? Any tips to manage knob positions? P.s. I really prefer to efit right on the board rather than the librarian so I'll be comfortable tweaking in any situation. Cheers.
  11. I think price and value are a bigger driver to modeling than age. Young and old may each have budget constraints but want the best sound possible. I'm 47 and could not afford the rig(s) that I can emulate - for a fraction of the cost. There is probably a narrow age group with money to burn and few responsibilities. And even then modeling is a great choice. There may be a group of old farts resistant to change but I would bet it's not hurting Line6's bottom line at all. And on that, I would think that much of their customer base is a 'home tone' user like me. Thats not to say these things aren't used by pros. They clearly are. That goes back to the amazing value we all get for the price.
  12. I do voiceovers for work. I had interference noise recently that turned out to be what i thought were good shielded cables. Best to rule that out.
  13. Hey, to save time I posted the patch. Disclaimer, I am a complete novice and your mileage will vary with what you think of the patch itself. Here is the basic premise: - 2 paths each with the same amp and similar eq with the same speaker, mic'ing etc. - the 2 path levels are way different. Path A (distorted path) is -11.5 db and path B (clean) is +7db. - I use this with a supposedly FRFR Alto keyboard 1x12 400 watt amp with a bass with passive hum buckers (set to both pickups all knobs in center) with preamp in bass. - I adjusted bass and presence fairly low to be able to balance levels across bass and with ability to turn it very load with my amp and still sound good. It was not tweaked at low volumes. I find you have to throw that tweaking away when you need to turn up. Have not had the opp to try with a drummer live yet. And this is my first patch for bass that I have ever made. I am also relatively new to bass after not playing for decades. But hope you find the approach helpful to get you to turn Dist on and off without drastic changes in level and tone. I saw a youtube video of Bill Sheehan talking about his sound and he mentioned that he runs basically a dual setup, one clean and one distorted. I just tried to achieve the same approach with the two paths. I think the patch has chorus on by default. I use this only with he clean path. I do realize that this means it takes two taps to change. I use the clean with chorus most of the time. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1400306/
  14. To be clear, that is supposed to point to a thread by Ed Saxman. I am a complete novice. Ed has put a ton of thought into using the pod for bass. Modified the link, not sure if it will help. If it doesn't search for 'bass tone ed saxman'. He has also posted bass tone bundles on here somewhere that get good reviews. http://line6.com/support/topic/263-bass-patches-pod-hd-series/
  15. Check out this great post for bass: http://line6.com/support/user/1053398-ed-saxman/
  16. FYI: I am using the bass hd pack. Not sure if my choices rely on anything in the pack or not.
  17. Possibly tonight (12+ hours) I can document it. My bass, pickups, playing, tastes are going to work for me but might be junk to someone with different tastes and needs.
  18. To use pod as interface USB is the only option. You can't convert an xlr cable in any way to connect it to a computer. They make long USB cables. You could use a separate audio interface like Focusrite to plug in you xlr but that is redundant as an audio interface.
  19. I have a patch where i do what is described. To make it not sound radically different in volume with dist on vs off i turned the dist way down relative to clean. But it is still quite prominent when on. I used same amp in both paths. I have also found that i need to turn bass down quite a bit in order to play at high volumes as talked about in other threads here. I like to target even levels across the instrument. Choice of amp and dist and even mic is a matter of taste. I used the same on both paths because i wanted to turn dist on and off and have it sound like i turned on dist and have nothing else different. That may not be important to you and you could have more options.
  20. I got around that issue for now by connecting to pc for software updates/installs.
  21. Plus it's a different sound with an empty hall.
  22. This discussion happens on every tech product forum. A group of people have a similar problem and another group doesnt. Someone from the defect group expresses disappointment in the product. Then someone from the unaffected group points fingers at the affected users defending the product - it must be user error. Product fails. How does it get better? Users voice their experience. Hopefully company hears it and improves. It is great to have some happy loyal fans but we shouldn't stand in the way where there are some users that need resolution to a real problem. If it's one person with a questionable issue? Sure. But clearly even the best made products can have batches with problems that need attention. Lets not impede that process.
  23. The plastic may actually be better than glass for impact. That's at least what the phone accessories people say.
  24. I think Apple reverted a change they intended. Hopefully everyone gets the update soon.
