  1. I would like iMac compatibility. I like GarageBand and would be nice to use Amplifi like you can use POD HD. All in one place and easy.

Ditto. The device does not work with newer iMacs with USB 3.0 so I cannot record directly into Garage Band! Line 6 basically gave up on this product when they shifted time and support to the Helix and Firehawk lines.

  2. Do you have to pair something for it to work with the amp?

I mentioned earlier that out of nowhere music starts playing from my cell phone to the amp.

Well, now out of nowhere my computer sound starts coming out of the amp. I have a wireless headset. The Corsair Void SE Wireless.

It doesn't do it all the time and I can't figure any way to stop it other than turning off the amp.

Usually I'll listen to a song on YouTube or a guitar lesson while playing. But now I can't hear anything because the headset's on and the amp is playing instead.

It sounds like two things are happening: 1) you have several BT and wireless devices competing for signal bandwidth that are cancelling each other out. The Amplifi 's connection may be the weakest. And 2) you are trying to stream music from your device outside the remote app. You cannot do both simultaneously by my experience. When you leave the app and start using a different app or program on the phone or device, it easily stops syncing via BT.

Disable all other BT devices nearby including the connection to a personal computer or laptop. Try using hard wired headphones. Use the process of elimination. Bluetooth is an extremely narrow spectrum. It is easily disrupted.

  3. Sorry, but your headline is wrong: It works on my MBP mid 2014 with USB 3 (DAW and the Amplify 150 is shown in the Line 6 Updater).

What kind of Mac (Model, Year) do you use? Perhaps it's a problem with Macs built after 2014 as yapruder also wrote above. It doesn't seem a problem having to do with USB3 and Macs in general.

Thank you! I'm sending all these remarks to the techs at Apple who clearly got it wrong! My Mac is like the others mid 2014 with USB 3.0 and the newest El Capitan. My Amplifi 75 worked fine with older models I tested it on via USB. It was recognized immediately in the audio/midi setup. But not my Mac! So frustrating!!

  4. I spent the last week or so working with Apple's engineers to find out why my Amplifi 75 could not be detected by my Mac running El Capitan. I tested the amp with older Macs running a variety of OS's including El Capitan and the all worked flawlessly. They found the Amplifi immediately! Line 6 said that proved it was not their product or firmware and refused to help or even listen!! Apple concluded that the device was not compatible with Macs designed with USB 3.0 ports and architecture! They ran an independent test and agreed that the amp was designed to work only with USB 1.0 or 2.0 with the latest firmware and not with 3.0! Regardless of operating system as long as the IS was newer than 10.7. So: does anyone out there know for a fact that their Amplifi is working with Macs running USB 3.0 via the USB Jack and can record into DAW software on said Mac? Please let me know. I wrote Lune 6 to look into this and hopefully develop the appropriate update thanks all!

  6. The outputs of the mains were designed to work with biamped powered speakers like you find with most PA systems or portable monitor systems such as the Line 6 LT series or Bose, Friedman, Mackie, etc. but some home stereos may be supported using 1/4 in cable adapters and the aux jack of the stereo receiver or pre-amp. You may have to research your particular system.

  7. Hi Jim,

Thanks for the response, I appreciate the suggestion.

I had considered the Amplifi FX100, however I think I prefer the:

    • TT's small form factor and extra audio outputs.
    • I've also read using the FBV shortboard Mk II external foot switch with the TT actually has more functionality than the Amplifi FX100's built in
    http://line6.com/support/topic/10713-hi-guys-comparison-between-amplifi-tt-and-fx-100/

"The short board (MKII) along with the TT actually offers MORE control than just the FX100 board. Most notable differences would be the full display that will give you patch and bank numbers, one button control of bank switching (pressing the 2 FX100 buttons simultaneously to switch is hard if not impossible for a small foot), and the ability to turn off and on individual effects within a chain just like a real stomp box."

Cost ($AUD) wise I'm looking at (approx, incl shipping):

    Amplifi FX100 = $440

    Amplifi TT ($320) + Shortboard Mk II ($250) = $570

Firehawk FX = $699 (plus postage)

    Hey Kareem

I'm not sure if you are checking sources such as Sweetwater or even Reverb.com but the former has been selling the Firehawk FX for $449 for nearly a year! Not sure where you got that price. Also I bought mine brand new in the box from Reverb.com for $370 + shipping!! At that price in your $$$ formula, the Firehawk FX would clearly be the best option. Believe me the MK II Shortboard, TT, FBV 3 or anything Amplifi have absolutely nothing on the Firehawk. It truly is a brilliant piece of hardware! The 25 HD amps alone are worth the money let alone the 120+ effects. Many are HD as well. And the output choices are infinite. Color coded footswitches are killer. You should do a bit mor homework. Not to mention Guitar Player editor's Pick for 2015!

  8. I have the newest iOS on my phone and have no connectivity issues. If your amp is near any other device, including a desk top computer than it could be that Bluetooth is constantly searching for the strongest signal. I tried this as an experiment and once I disconnected BT from my desktop I never had another issue! Just my experience!

    Jim

  9. The funny and ridiculous thing with this is how much time we all spend on Line 6's whopper of a failure!! Do you think there are entire blogs and thousands of forum complaints from people just plugging into a Marshall or Fender Deluxe or a Peavy straight out of the box!! What an incredible marketing scam Line 6 has been able to pull off!

I was able to update using a USB hub, something the company claims they do not support!! Go figure! Haha

    Jim

  10. Yeah

I suppose I'd miss that with a FRFR speaker?

Just wanted to see my options when the time comes to upgrade.

So looking like the FH and a FRFR speaker then would be the best option for me.

Thanks very much for your reply.

No you would still have all those options available because you could plug the powered speakers into the headphone jack of the Amplifi or connect them to the Firehawk FX which still uses the remote app. If all of your patches were set up and you did not need to edit with the remote app, you could stream music off your desktop computer directly into your Firehawk with powered speakers and play along with any playlist (same as you would with the Amplifi)! Have fun.

    Jim

  11. You are trying to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse! The Firehawk FX is a far superior modeling device with lots of HD patches. IMHO it's just below the Helix in quality. If you hook it up to an Amplifi you'll have to disable all of the effects and amps on the Amplifi. I don't see any benefit in doing this. Far better to run the Firehawk into a good quality FRFR Biamped powered speaker such as the Line 6 LT 2 or 3 or a Freidman powered speaker, etc. just sayin. If you want a foot pedal to use with the Amplifi, why not get an MK shortboard or pop for the new FBV? Which is still $100 less than a Firehawk FX. Just sayin'

    Jim

  12. The iOS version is probably different. The main thing is having the option to save to My Tones so you never lose your favorites! I don't use a foot pedal si frankly I never use the banks! I only select from My Tones using the remote app because I have a stock set of favorites and they are easy to find in alphabetical order.

    Jim

  13. To be honest I don't know about this 4 cable method....

I don't know if the FX 100 even has that capability, but you can read all about it in the Firehawk FX and Helix forums. There are also several YouTube videos that show it being demonstrated. I used it when I had a Firehawk FX outputting to a traditional Fender amp. It requires hours of tweaking to get a nice clean sound that utilizes the effects loop but ended up being a waste of all those nice modeled amps and cabs because I just preferred the sound of my own amp! I ditched the Firehawk and went back to a simple pedalboard and reliable pedals by Boss and Fulltone etc. for live gigs. I just use the Amplifi 75 for rehearsals, practice and noodling around with remote app. Too much time on my hands I guess! Haha.

    Jim

  14. The Amplifi is a very light weight modeling amp. I would not consider using it for live performances. A FRFR powered biamped speaker system such as the Line 6 LT2 or 3 will give you great results. But the beauty of the Firehawk 1500 is if your Helix craps out you have an incredible full service amp. Go to the Helix or Firehawk FX forums where many people have discussed their output solutions for live gigs. I read where many people were quite happy with Fender Mustang IV amps for FRFR at half the price of a 1500!

  15. Thanks for your reply, Jim. Am I understanding you correctly, that there's a way to save to the presets from the remote app? I missed that. Can you tell me the steps involved? I was trying to use the procedure described in the "pilot's guide" - holding the preset select button until the preset A LED flashes, etc..... but it never blinks. It would be great if I didn't have to have my phone with me every time I power up the amp, to get tones I find useful.

Really the remote app is the far superior tool. Make sure the device is in sync with the amp via Bluetooth. Make you have an account with line 6 and you are logged in. Whenever you create a new tone or find one you like from the cloud, select that tone. In most cases you can tap it once and you'll see a little square save box icon. Press and hold that square until you see a drop down menu. That menu gives you options to save to My Tones or the 75. You can even save with a different name. If you are in "Edit Tones" mode on the app, that little square save icon is in the upper right corner. Save everything to My Tones as those are saved into your Cloud Account and can be retrieved in case you have to do a clean reboot of the amp. Try this.

    Jim

  16. ok, so I did it, and It shows up as Line 6 Amplifi, and sometimes POD. but in audio preferences in garage band as an input it is there

My computer is now under investigation by Apple's engineers. None of the USB ports recognizes the Amplifi. I can only get this computer to see a Bluetooth connection and use the amp as an output device only. I have not tried the security permissions yet. That much I can do myself! Thanks. I'll let you know if it works.

  17. Hello all,

I was wondering on some opinions about something I was thinking about...I own a FX100 pedal and was wondering if where to place it...meaning in front my amp or in my effects loop (not knowing if you can).

My thinking is (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the pre-amp section of a amp is pretty much the sound of that amp(which ever amp that is) and the power section just amplifies the sound.

So since the fx100 is an amp/pedal effect modeler would it be correct to put it the effects loop and use the power section to basically as a straight amp?

I've read that delay and reverb pedal should be in the effects loop and distortion, overdrive should be in front of the amp, so would using the fx100 be defeating that theory or not?

Remember you will retain the personality of your amp if you use the effects loop. If you plug into the front end you will have all of the attributes your amp has but you will lose control of the signal chain. If you have the ability to use the 4-cable method as you do with Firehawk FX or Helix or Pod HD 500, you can have best of both worlds. You can choose the FX loop in the remote app almost like a stomp box, turn it on or off. Remember if you do use the FX loop, you'll probably want to select "No Cab" under the amp setting. Signal chain choices. That's another topic and up for debate!

  18. Just got a new Amplifi 75. All seems to be working well. Bluetooth connectivity is great (I'm using the remote on both a Kindle Fire HD & a Samsung Galaxy S5). I've got the latest firmware update, as that was done just after unboxing.

When i look for the 25 banks of presets, only the four in bank 1 appear. Nothing else loads, and i'm not able to load my own into bank 25. It just tells me there was an error in downloading, no matter what preset in what bank i try loading.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Are you connected and in sync including being logged into your password protected user account while using the remote app? If not you will not be able to access all of the tones in My Tones. It is a good idea to save anything you really like into My Tones first. I don't think you can access all 25 banks without being logged in.

  19.

[*]Home sharing of itunes Music Library from a PC/Computer is not supported, and will not display that Music in the App at all.

I have been able hear and stream anything in my computer. Especially iTunes, when outputting to the Amplifi. You can select Amplifi as the output device in the audio/midi setup on a Mac. You can also choose this option even if you use A Bluetooth connection on your desktop. Lastly the Amplifi is automatically selected as the output device if you connect the 1/8th in cable from the aux out on the amp to the headphone in on any computer, phone or tablet.

Now. All that being said, none of these choices allows you to select a song for tone matching without also using the remote app via Bluetooth.

  20. It's not unsolvable, try going to security permissions and letting the Amplifi have permissions to see if that's the issue, also are you trying to use GarageBand or some other software?

P.S. I used to work for those people in the tech area, it could be any number of stupid things not letting it through, worst case is re install OSX. Buthe I highly doubt it'll go that far.

    Garage Band. Thanks Brad
