The other thing I notice different when trying to create a new preset:   I can go to an empty block and when I'd want to assign an effect to it, I could "press joystick to open model list"

Try doing a quick press with the joystick instead of a long press.  At some point (I forget exactly when) the behavior of the joystick encoder changed.

  2. Hmm....just had another thought.  Bypass all of the blocks and see if you're hearing a clean signal.  If you get a clean signal with no blocks enabled, enable each block one by one.  If you're not getting a clean signal with all blocks bypassed, check the input....Multi/Guitar/Aux/Variax etc -and/or- the output level at the very end of each path....it looks like an arrow.

Too bad it's a paid preset or else I'd just say upload it here and one of us will look at it for you.

  3. I can appreciate what Boss has crafted, but (to me) the product has a lot of shortcomings.  Dropping $400 on a device that solely relies on an app for full functionality, and may or may not ever be updated for newer mobile OS', or may or may not work with every Android device?  Must take one hand off the guitar to switch to a lead patch?  Only 6 memory presets?  Up to 5 hours of use on one charge?

I'm sure the headphone experience is unlike no other and I think it's the perfect companion for a traveling musician or a student who wants to practice anywhere at anytime. IMO, for $100 more, POD Go looks to be the better product.

Not trying to be critical of your suggestion.  I just believe the OP deserves to be fed as much information as possible. :-)

  4. The only way I've ever agreed to buy an extended warranty from a retailer is if they subtracted the cost of the warranty from the product.  That way they sales person gets closer to their quota and I got a free warranty.

That being said, an extended warranty is only as good as the people behind it.  I've never dealt with a warranty repair through Guitar Center, but if they are the type to keep you in limbo for months on end, waiting for <insert excuse>, then it's not worth it.  I do have experience with Line 6 customer service and it's been top notch every single time.

As usual, take all this with a grain of salt and YMMV.

but what does the differences with dual amp/cabs and DSP mean in ”bedroom player” situation? In theory.

All that means is that, because of the extra DSP and non-static block paths, the LT has the ability to have two amps and/or cabs within a preset.  And DSP, the LT has two SHARC ADSP-21469 chips; one for each path.  The Go will have one DSP chip.  The more DSP, the more blocks you can add to a preset.

In my eyes when I look at the LT vs POD Go, the one thing that stands out in my mind is: Are 9 (static) blocks enough?  If you can answer that question, then it is an easy choice.

No matter which one you choose, the modeling technology is going to be the same.

But still - what about using LT with good quality headphones, how does that working for everyone?

For the bedroom player a good set of headphones should be fine.  The flatter the frequency response is, the better.  For my poor man's studio setup, I use a pair of KRK KNS 8400 for mixing and people tell me my mixes sound pretty darn good.  I also use them to work inside of Helix Native or jam late at night so everyone can sleep.

If you start venturing into playing with a band, that's where things get different.  You'll want some kind of external FRFR speaker to dial in your patches, at (or near) gig level, to avoid the whole Fletcher Munson curve and also to monitor yourself on stage.  I use a QSC K10.2 for that.  But that's a rabbit trail we'll leave another time.... :-)

And am I able to connect my iPhone to it (USB/camera kit cable?) and record my sessions with an iOS DAW like cubasis?

Have a look at this thread below.  According to Soundog the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter works great with Cubasis.

As far as POD Go or LT, they are very different products when it comes to block layout.  The LT is way more flexible in regards to the number of blocks you can use and in what order you can put them in. The POD Go appears to have a more static approach, much like we've seen with the Spider series.  Research and watch as many demos as  you can.  If you have a big box music store near by, go and test drive both.

  7. Just to add, if you're not familiar with modelers and are expecting that amp in the room feel and/or not somewhat familiar with EQ and compression, you're going to be disappointed.  You'll end up tweaking for hours on end and still not be happy.  Whatever modeler you end up going with remember what you're hearing is a simulation of an amp and cabinet with a mic.  And as already mentioned, don't rely on factory presets.  Get ready to dive in deep and create your own patches from scratch.

I guess the only other thing I'm still unsure of with the snapshots is if each within a preset can only contain the same objects or if you can have different effect blocks from one to the next?

A preset is comprised of a combination of blocks.  You can have as many effect blocks within your preset as you want....until you either run out of DSP or space to insert new blocks.  The types of blocks do not change across snapshots within a preset, only the state of the blocks do.  You can use snapshots to turn the blocks on or off or change the parameters of each block.  This is a convenient way of controlling multiple blocks with multiple parameters without having to do a tap dance.

    I hope that made sense.

  9. I'm just gonna throw some things out there and make sure we're not overlooking the obvious. I've come up with three things to check.

    1. Check your inputs within your DAW.  I'm not exactly familiar with Cubase or Ableton, but on Reaper, when I create a new track, I have the choice of recording in mono or stereo.  By default, the track is mono.  You DAW(s) might handle this differently.  But your description sounds like you're recording and then panning a stereo track.

    2. Does this behavior happen on every patch, even with the factory presets?  If not, the issue might be with the routing within your patch.

    3. I highly doubt this is the issue but, try a different USB cable.

And there's that ninja, Codamedia, swooping in and posting some sound advice as usual :-)

  10. The 1/8" end that's already connected to the aux on your Spider, plug the 1/4" end into Output --> L/mono.  Your guitar plugs into Input --> L/mono.  These outputs are on the back of the unit, the same place where you plug in the power.  Ignore the Send and Return inputs on the side.

I guess there is no set date for this update? They are just saying soon?

Yeah, they aren't going to say when....especially after the delayed 2.8 update.  They hinted at a date, the date came and went, and man did people get their panties in a wad.  Almost always, a software developer won't give out a release date, for obvious reasons.  Usually the answer you will get is, "When its done."

  12. Just plug your guitar into the same jack you'd use as if you were using your stomp normally.  Take your new cable, plug one end of it in the 1/4" out on the stop and then plug the 1/8" into the Aux on the back of your Spider V.  Hope this helps.

  13. At the download page it says HX Edit 2.8.2 is compatible with Catalina.  If you are having issues, you might need to open a ticket with support since Line 6 doesn't monitor these forums.

  14. Check the thread below.  Line 6 said they would update when there was more news.  The thread was last updated on October 15, 2019.  Beyond that, I don't know due to being a PC user.

Hello I have a question for you, I am new to this, a few days ago I bought my Helix Floor, so I wanted to update it, because the version was 1.06.5, and I did not have the option to use snapshot, I did all the steps download the latest version 2.82 when I tried to connect my pedalboard to my laptop, it recognized it but when I opened the hx edit this came out (I will attach photo) then, I read that it could be the cable (but it was weird because my laptop if I recognized the processor when I connected it) I used 3 different cables and the same error came out, maybe I made a mistake I don't know, I am new, but if any of you could help me, I would appreciate it, thank you very much!

8 blocks is better but still not enough, especially since the looper does not work correctly.

If 6 (or 8) blocks aren't enough, then perhaps you bought the wrong tool for the job.

Honestly, the looper is half of what I got this device for at the time.

I wouldn't expect a full-featured looper in a product that's advertised primarily as a modeler.  Especially if a looper was the cornerstone of my setup.  It is like buying a car and expecting the cup holder to accommodate every size of cup/mug.

I am still not convinced HX Stomp is the swiss army knife of ultimate power I have been promised.

Who promised you HX Stomp was the swiss army knife of ultimate power??  It was pretty obvious from day 1 that HX Stomp is a stripped down version of Helix.

  17. That's because you have to manually assign stomps to each of the switches whenever you create your own patch.  While in stomp mode, touch (don't press) the footswitch for a short period.  This will bring up a dialog box to where you can assign a block to that specific footswitch.

Also, grab a copy of the updated manual.  There is a ton of helpful information inside regarding basic and advanced operations.

Yea, but are they going to be granular enough?

After the whole tuner debate (and subsequent update), I'd be floored if they weren't granular enough.  But in saying all that, the most granular of meters will never be able to account for room acoustics.  Meters will get you in the ballpark, but it is your ears that will make the final decisions.

I can't believe how far Helix has come since I jumped on the wagon at 1.06.5....for you newer peeps, that's before snapshots were a thing.  I was completely happy with the modeler I bought back then.  But then, Line 6 continues to keep rolling out awesome and meaningful updates, for free, 4 years later.  It's a great time to be alive.

So this is the latest offering, is it?; the POD Go. Perhaps, I am missing something but, where do I plug in my beloved Variax? I don't get it. Why do Line 6 limit the connectivity potential of the Variax in this way? I mean, IMHO, it's only their most innovative product ever, so surely connections to all associated equipment is a good thing. Then again, obviously not?

Crusin hit the nail on the head.  But if you want the answer straight from the horse's mouth, click on the link that's in the post above yours.
