  1. Problem 1 solution:

     

    If you're running a 1/4" cable from Stomp into the guitar input on the front of the amp, that's not gonna get the job done.  You will need to use the 1/8" Aux input on the back of your Spider V 30.  You will obviously need a 1/4" to 1/8" cable for this which are easily available on Amazon. 

     

    As a side note, after you turn on your Spider and it's fully booted up, turn down the volume controlling the modeled amp and use the master volume to add any additional volume.

    We used to do this using Gearbox on old Pod setups.

     

    To assign a block to a footswitch in Native, right-click on a block and choose Automation Bypass > Switch number.

    No exceptions.  There is latency when switching between patches, period.  Patches vs Snapshots....there is a difference.

    Sometimes you got to conform to the product's design instead of wishing it worked your way.  You do have the ability to place two amps within a patch and have different states and parameters via snapshots, which would give you two completely different tones inside of one patch.

    How hard can it be?  There would have to be a hardware upgrade.  So we're talking a redesign of Helix to accommodate the additional chips.  Don't forget the cost of retooling and reprogramming the production facility that's going to produce the hardware.  Now we're gonna need software written/re-written to take advantage of the extra DSP.  Then Line 6 has to sell enough of these newer models to (at the very least) recoup R&D, production, marketing, and whatever else is involved bringing a newer product to market.  And these are only the things that come to the top of my head and I'm probably missing a ton more details.  At this point, may as well come out with a new product instead of a half-baked upgrade.

    But there is a difference.  Apple's solution was a software update.  Points 1, 2, 4, & 5 require hardware upgrades and point 3 isn't an issue if you're using snapshots.

     

    Sometimes I think we concentrate too much on the gear and not enough on the quality of music we are producing.  

  4. $1,600 euros and they say it can run four amp models at once.  It also has a touchscreen.  It will be interesting to hear how good the modeling is.    Whatever the case, I don't see myself migrating away from Helix for a long time...not even if there's a Helix 2.0 in two or three years.

    That's exactly it.  The screen refresh rate was too low for a smooth scrolling display.  Now with the higher refresh rate, we're able to have nice things like the strobe tuner.  Regardless of what camp you're in (meters vs no meters), before that update, any kind of software meters would have been nearly useless anyway.    

  6. I agree with everyone about the noise floor but what happens when you try a blank preset?  On a blank preset, with the phones volume all the way up, you shouldn't hear any noise.  

     

    Do you hear the same noise when connected to an external speaker from the 1/4" outs or XLR outs?  I realize those outputs aren't connected to the phones knob.  But if you do hear the same noise, it's obviously something else.  Perhaps it is dirty power, improperly grounded electrical wiring, florescent lighting, etc.

You obviously have a gift for riffing.  Each song has some redeeming quality that makes me want to continue listening, which is so rare.  That's a difficult thing to do with a full length album.  The songs have their own unique sound but still sound somewhat familiar in spots.....Crazy Man @1:39 sounds like a brief flashback to Bowie's Fame.  I noticed you used a ton of different effects on the guitars across most of the album.  I assume those are all from Helix too?  The songwriting is great too.......Bad Neighbor Blues...haha I can totally identify.  Anyway, I'm no music critic.  I simply enjoy giving positive feedback when I hear something I like.  Great job man!

  8. Oh I see now.  I've read your other thread and better understand what you're after.  Sometimes we have to conform to the product's design. And if the product doesn't meet our expectations, we find a workaround or move on and try something different from another company. For me, the looper is a nice add-on but it is not a necessity.  If it was a necessity, I'd simply spend the money on one that had more functionality and features.  The way I look at Helix is that it is primary an amp and stomp modeler and anything else beyond that scope is a bonus.

  9. My patches are setup with snapshots on top row and stomps on the bottom row.  Is this what you're after?  If so, you can change how the footswitches display in the global settings. Then assign the looper to one of the switches designated as a stomp.

    We don't know what the time frames for anything.  This is a forum where users try to help other users.  Have you checked the banner topics at the top of this page?  One of them addresses the Catalina issue.  The other addresses why Line 6 isn't responding to your question.

The easy solution is to learn sound engineering.  You don't need to know all the ins and outs, but knowing some of the basics will help you dial in a patch a lot quicker.  With a modeler, you are no longer a guitarist plugged into an amp that's in the room.  You're basically dealing with a miced amp in a studio.  Knowing how to use EQ and compression, along with proper gain staging, will help reduce your tinkering time.

    That makes a lot more sense now.  The song is tuned a half step down. The solo switches to (what we see on the fretboard) the key of A minor, but really it's in they key of G# minor, which explains why G# minor works for the solo.  And the theory lines up because the rhythm chords are G# A# and F#, which are both in the key of G# minor and C# major.

    I only mention intonation because the 2nd and 3rd strings can sound kind of funky together if intonation isn't set well.  G tuning because it will be easier to play and it will sound better.

     

    Edit, forgot to mention that I'm using the settings Phil mentioned and it sounds decent in open G.  I'm using Pitch Wham block first in the chain with the pedal position at 100%.  

  16. I haven't played this song in decades, so I don't exactly remember all the notes. :-)  But these settings appear to work if you are playing the lower harmony. 

     

    Twin Harmony block after the amp and cab. 

     

    Voice 1 Key: G#

    Scale: Minor

    Voice 1 Shift: +3rd

    Voice 1 Level: Max

    Mix: 40%-ish

    Level: 0.0

     

    Reduce Voice 2 Level to 0, seeing how this is only a two part harmony.

The Simple Pitch should be the first block in the chain, though I would try Pitch Wham seeing how it is modeled after the Digitech Whammy, which (from what I understand) is what was used on the recording.  That being said, the Helix isn't polyphonic and neither is the Digitech Whammy.  I can clearly hear the wonkieness or, artifacts, from the effect in the song.  This may or may not be a factor, but make sure you are tuned to open G.  How well your guitar's intonation is set may also be a factor. 

     

    To the best of my knowledge, Digitech only makes two polyphonic pitch shifters, the Digitech Whammy DT and Digitech Drop.  Neither are modeled in Helix.  From what I understand the Helix would require an enormous amount of DSP to incorporate a polyphonic pitch shifting block.

     

    Hopefully this helps.  If not, I'm sure some others will chime in too.

Unfortunately, no is the answer to your question.  The behavior of the blocks in edit mode are in order, left to right, starting with the bottom row of switches and continuing to the top row.  Inserting more blocks in the chain increases the length, which bumps everything last in the chain to page 2 or 3, etc.  Holding down a switch to engage edit mode sounds great but it would interfere with the momentary latching feature.  

     

    If you want to adjust a sweeping parameter on a particular stomp, assign that specific parameter to the expression pedal or use an additional expression pedal, which is what I do.  If you want a simple on/off, assign the parameter to a footswitch, which you've already figured out how to do.

You're looking for that "amp in the room" feel and you're not going to be able to replicate that with a modeler.  That's because a modeler simulates a miced amp that usually isolated in another room.  This is the sound you hear on all your favorite tunes.  This is the sound your audience hears live through the PA.  It takes some time to get used to....some people never get used to it and return to more traditional rig.  

     

    Line 6 claims their PowerCab can replicate that "amp in the room feel" however I can't confirm or deny that seeing how I haven't plugged into one yet.

     

    EDIT: I suppose another option would be to use a tube amp and use 4 cable method.

Unfortunately you are going to have to import every IR used into Native.  Make sure you drop it in the correct slot too.  The IR Select parameter only remembers the IR slot number, not which IR that was used.  IR management is a bit of a headache but grabbing a copy of Native on sale is an absolute steal.
