  1. Hi, Apologies if this has been asked before but i'm pulling my hair out trying to sort this and I have a gig tonight! I recently purchased a 5150 combo which i love, however i'm having issues running the Helix LT through the effects loop. I have followed a number of videos on youtube, none of which seem to mention my problem nor solve it. I'll be as brief as a can... Basically, I think I am only hearing the effects loop most of the time. Its a clean signal. I can get the amps drive channels to work, but I also hear a clean signal over the top of it. Then if i use the delay in the loop, it just delays a clean signal? I have no idea what I've done wrong as the 4cm is set up exactly as the video suggests. In terms of the patch I have tried using the effects loop block as well as the send/return blocks. I still have the same problem. Just wondering if anyone has a quick fix? I should also mention that as soon as a plug any cables into the 5150 it cuts the sound from the instrument input. Is this normal?? I have also tried using the preamp out from the 5150 but this hasn't had any effect. Currently at work, so I cant try out anything for a few hours but I'd be very grateful for some help! Videos ive tried: Helix Minute: 4-Cable Method - YouTube How to do the 4 cable method with the Line 6 Helix (the EASY way!) - YouTube One last thing - I had a blackstar head and 2x12 cab before this 5150, set up the exact same way. I used the midi in the to switch channels as an addition to the 4cm. I never had any issues with the exact same setup im trying to use now.
  2. I have my first gig coming up since I've had the Helix and I would like to start setting up some patches. I had an HF Effects previously and am confident about setting up 4CM with my amp, but I would like to set up a seperate DI output to the PA that also has an amp and cab sim in that stream. I think I know how to do it but any tips or outright rules and advice would be appreciated. I don't have a PA to test this on at the moment but we will have one for rehearsals in a few weeks so I would like to have this roughly sorted before then. I have searched the forums but seems difficult to find, for me anyway. Thank you!
  3. I am considering buying a HX Effects unit for use with a Mesa Boogie Mk IV using the 4-cable method, an I need some pre-sales advice. Currently I'm using a Lexicon MPX-G2 multi-effects processor that sits in a rack immediately underneath the amp so that all connecting cables have lengths of 1 m or less - that works fine. Since the HX Effects is a floor unit, I am a bit concerned about what will happen to my tone when cables become longer, as they inevitably will. Since I assume that many of you will be in the same boat with me, what is your experience? (How much / in how far) does this affect the tone of the guitar? Is there audible degradation in terms of dynamics or 'richness'? I am particularly concerned with the pre-gain part of the circuit, i.e., with the cable that goes from the HX Effects Send to the input of the amp are there noise issues to be expected, and how do you deal with them? Is an (external) buffer needed, or is there a buffer already built into the HX Effects? What types / lengths of cables have you been using successfully in this setting? Maybe a bit off my own topic: Which expression pedals (except those from Line 6) work well with the unit? Which pot impedance should be used? Specifically, has anyone got experience with the Ernie Ball VP pedals together with the HX Effects?
  4. Hi All, I have a problem regarding the integration of my HX Stomp XL into the FX Loop of my ENGL Fireball: I connect using 4CM: Guitar -> Stomp Input L / MONO -> Stomp Output L / MONO -> Fireball Input (Preamp) -> Fireball FX Send -> Stomp Return L / Mono -> Stomp Send -> Fireball FX Return -> Fireball Speaker Out -> Speaker The Fireballs FX Loop Knop is turned fully to the right (100% Wet FX Loop). Noise Gate at 12 o'clock. Now any time I try out an 4CM Preset of the stomp or create my own preset including an FX Loop block I get a high pitching continuous sound from my amp / box which does not sound healthy at all. It is really squeeling and not the typical noise. Sounds much more artifical an constant. Would be very happy if you could help me with your experience as under the current described circumstances I cannot use the Stomp with the ENGL which really is a pitty. Thank you so much! Best regards, Max
  5. I had a standalone looper pedal gifted to me, and I'm not entirely sure how I can use it with the HX Effects with 4CM. Does anyone have a setup for something like this? I'd like to avoid having to use an FX Loop block if possible.
  6. Hi! So, i got an frfr, Db technologies B-hype 10, as a birthday present and am using it for wet fx only with the pod go and my blackstar artist 10 AE as my dry amp (pg into fx loop). But now i would like to use the internal preamp of the blackstar as well with 4cm and still have the wet effects coming out of the frfr. Can this be done? My signal chain is: Guitar -> Guitar in (PG) -> amp out -> Blackstar fx-return and L/mono out(PG) -> Frfr Amp out is set to ”Pre cab”, the Cab-block is before the delay and reverb.
  7. Hi, I have the following gear at my disposal : Laney IRT Studio Tube amp with matching cab, 2 Adam studio monitors and the Helix lt. I only play at home, no gigs... just for fun. What I would like to achieve.... Using my Irt Studio in a 4 cm - using the Irt preamp and I would like to switch from time to time to the Helix preamps or amps (without cabs, as mine is pretty ok). I managed to do this by watching the vids from Richie Castellano and J Sadites - each of them with there own interpretation of the 4 cm. Very interesting vids by the way. So far so good.... I also have 2 Adam studio monitors with XLR. There are also a lot of vids on YT how to set up a routing for wet dry wet... but most of them with 3 FRFR speakers. I am looking for a solution: Laney IRT for the dry signal and the Adam monitors for the wet stereo signal. What is the best way to set this up. I don't go FOH... just the mentionned gear. All info is welcome!!! Gr from Belgium... Peter
  8. Hi All. Hope you can help with this. Hope its not a stupid question. I want to run the hx stomp in 4cm effects to put effects before and after the amp, but I want to keep the real amp preamp (not use a modeler) in the chain. For example if I wanted to go to the PA: Guitar -> hx stomp input -> hx stomp compressor -> hx stomp Phaser ->[hx stomp effects loop send - set to instrument level] (to two distortion pedals in series) -> input to the real amp [hx stomp effects loop return set to line level]-> hxstomp chorus -> hx stomp delay -> hx stomp reverb -> L/R out to PA Question 1. Would this sound good or would the amp just be kicking to much power into the stomp? Or maybe there would just be too much gain going to the PA? Question 2. Is it possible to do this sort of setup so that the final sound comes out of the amp and not through the PA at all I know I can run the Pedals into the front of the amp and then just use the HXStomp in the effects loop, but I want to be able to use the HX stomp compressor and Phaser before the pedals. I also realize that I could run the Pedal in an effects loop and put the comp and phase in front but then I still have the puzzle of getting the chorus, delay and reverb after the amp preamp. Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.
  9. I have successfully programmed channel switching on the HX effects for my Amp1 via different presets using bank PC commands but for some reason when I try and do this in snapshot mode, assigning the same values in the separate snapshots - 1,2,3,4 etc. Nothing happens... Rx and tx clock is off and I've followed several videos and guides on this but no joy - I tried factory resets on the amp1 and upgraded to firmware version 3.11 on the HX and I have tried to do this also using the HX edit but it just does not work Ive contacted Line6 support but no response since their initial email, has anyone else had this or is there something I'm missing? Is there any history of defective units in this regard?
  10. Bye, fellows. Line 6 don't update the firmware anymore, deciduous SD, without FX loop, no chances to detune guitar, so I sold it. I'm migrating to POD Go connected by 4CM to a Marshall AVT100X. Also, nobody else talk anymore in this group, so I leave it. It was a loyal partner, I will remember it fondly, but I will not miss it. Bye.
  11. I am totally new to modeling. I currently have a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 100 head. I would like to use my own Marshall on the clean Channel and have flexibility to put HX Stomps post effects in the Marshall's loop. At the same time though I would like to be able to switch to a different heavier amp like a rectifier for the dirty tones bypassing my Marshall's preamp and still be able to use those delays/reverbs in the right spot when needed. I know how to wire the 4cm but I think I'm not building my path correctly on HX edit. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. Hey guys, So I have a HX Stomp, a few pedals and a Laney IRT with an FX loop. What I would love to be able to do, is run the setup using the 4 cable method, but also incorporate my existing pedals, but I am just having a little trouble wiring it all up. I have checked the forum, and watched some really helpful videos on YouTube on the 4CM and the stomp, but haven't found anything directly related to this setup I'm not sure whether I'm asking too much to get this all set up right or if its even possible, but is there a way to be able to have the HX stomp connected to my amp via 4cm, so I can use some effects before and after the Laney, but also have a my other pedals in the chain so my OD pedal is before the amp, and my reverb & delay pedals are after the amp too? I'm currently hooked up like this : Guitar => OD pedal => HX Stomp Guitar input // Hx stomp L out => Amp guitar input. Then it goes from the Laney FX send => Echo pedal => Reverb pedal => Looper => Laney FX return. This so far sounds good, I can use the drive effects and others from the stomp, but its all fed into the front of my amp. I like the flexibility of being able to use the onboard amp sims if I can because they sound great! I would really appreciate any help from anyone who has a similar set up, or knows that I'm just talking rubbish and it will never work haha! Thanks!
  13. Hello, When using the 4CM with the HX effects, where in the chain would you put externals pedals such as overdrives, fuzz, phaser, or modulation? Between guitar in? HX effects send to amp in? I want to mix the 4CM with my other pedals and what typically has worked well for others would be helpful. I would like to save my second effects loop if I can. Thanks!
  14. Hi, I've been messing for two days trying to get the usb output from my computer to work at the same time as my 4CM setup. I have an EVH5150 6L6 in 4CM. I can control the output volume and gain on the amp and get the Helix effects and everything works properly. However, I want to jam along youtube, spotify, Guitar Pro or my Daw but I can't get the sound out if I'm in 4CM. If i hit the effects switch of the EVH, it works but I have no more guitar output. And if its off, then I get my guitar back. I want both. Is there any way yo achieve that? Regards,
  15. Hi, wondered if anyone had any suggestions. So I'm using the HX effects for bass into a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes 500 amp. The amp has an intelligent footswitch for going between clean, vintage microtubes circuit, B3K circuit, and mute (4 buttons). When trying to use an effects loop on the HX effects through the loop send/return on the amp, it is bypassing the footswitch somehow, so I can't change between the onboard distortions or mute the amp. This doesn't happen with 2 cable method (no loop) and didn't happen using individual effects in the loop... any ideas?
  16. Hi - I Have recently got a HX Effects and cabled it up via the 4CM. I am getting sound but I have a Marshall TSL with 3 channels. When I change the channels on the amp (using a marshall footswitch), the sound doesn't change. Its as its just going through the HX and not reflecting if I change the Amp channel form say clean to crunch. I suspect its something to do do with signal path but not sure where to start. I feel like such a newbie wit this stuff so apologies if dumbarse post. Any obvious errors? Thanks
  17. Hi every body, I'm trying to use my amp (ORANGE TH30) with my HELYX LT (4CM) and I have some trouble: My tone: I have a chain of blocks, an FX LOOP block, a pre amp, and another chain of blocks. - If I want to play with the sound of my TH30, the FX LOOP block is activate, and not the pre amp block : everything is fine. I can use my TH30 volume knob to have more or less sound. - If I want to play with another sound: I turn the FX LOOP block off, and the preamp on. BUT: I can't control the volume directly from my amp, only with the volume button of the HELIX. Even with the amp volume button set to '0', I have sound. Is this normal? I'm not very familiar with this, I usualy play directcly in the HELIX, with headphones. Thanks.
  18. Hey Is it possible to configure my rig and use my amp (1959slp) without speaker cab, a HX effects (4CM) and a Loadbox (torpedo captor) ? In a perfect world i'd love to set up something like this : guitar=>HX(comp)=>stompboxes(boost, fuzzes)=>HX(modulation, trem)=>amp=>Loadbox=>HX(eq,reverb, delays)=>IR=>P.A or Audio interface it seems possible but I just can't figure out how to patch it in terms of input/output of each device and in terms of signal path in the HX (where do I insert loop,send/return,IR blocs) thanks for the help cheers
  19. Hey everyone, This is my first post as I'm new to the Helix, so thanks in advance for any help! TL/DR at the end... I've been playing professionally for about 13 years, all that time using my GT-8 into a PA (my version of an FRFR, I suppose, when I built it all those years ago). My main flow is musical theatre orchestra pits, so a lot of shows require a crazy amount of tones and switching. I recently got a helix while I was in a long run – I left the GT-8 at the gig and started playing with the Helix and building some tones. Fast forward to last week and I started rehearsals for a new show. It's a heavier-ish rock and roll show and they're setting us all up Fender Super Sonic heads that will go into Palmer load boxes. Here's the thing – I've been programming patches for this show, getting really insane into amps/heads/speaker cabinets/IRs for each specific tune (some of them are real songs from the '70s, some of them are songs heavily inspired by artists from the '70s, so there are some rather specific tones I'm trying to land on and that the composer and music director are looking for). Yesterday during the first load-in from the rehearsal space to the theatre, I semi-casually mentioned to the sound designer (when discussing saving space) that, oh, we could possibly get rid of the Super Sonic for my rig since everything can be handled by this amazing piece of technology I have at my feet. I'm not sure if he didn't understand what I was saying, if he's not familiar with the power of the Helix, or if he just has a very specific vision in his brain, but he more or less squashed that idea right away. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers – especially when the sound designer has the credits that this guy does and they brought him in from New York just to do this show – so I just said, "Great! We'll find a way to implement it all." So, my ultimate question is this – what's the best way to implement the tube head, Palmer load box, and my Helix? I imagine it's something with the 4cm, but I also don't want to ditch all of the amp/speaker emulations I've worked on. I will if I have to, but I'm hoping to keep the Roland Jazz Chorus sound for a few things and the Marshal Plexi sound for a few things and the Vox sound for a few things ... you get the idea. Sometimes it might be rad to use the Super Sonic in the chain, as well, but – then am I able to use that head in my chain (4cm in an effects loop?) but still use a speaker/mic model? Sorry if any of the questions are dumb or obvious – I'm just still new to the Helix and all its glory. Plus, it's super rare that a theatre will set us up with an amp and load box and not rely on us for all of our own equipment, so it's just not something I'm super practiced on. TL/DR: Best way to implement Helix, Fender Super Sonic Head, and Palmer load box while being able to use the sound of the Fender head AND/OR amp/speaker models I've built in the Helix depending on the patch. Thanks so much again, all! Cheers, PJ
  20. Hello to everyone! I am thinking of buying the Helix Hx Effects for one purpose (among others) I want to recreate the "feel" of a second guitarist, and by reading and searching other subforums here, I haven't come to an end. My way of thinking is simple 1. guitar to the HX 2. split the signal with a (HX) delay of eg. 20ms-1repeat in 2 amps having the 2nd amp giving back just the feedback. (the "2nd" guitarist is created) 3. Having a (HX) harmonizer on, fully panned so amp1 plays the note I am playing (dry signal) and amp2 just the "harmonized" note. (the "2nd" guitarist is playing his "seperate" part) 4. Add a new delay along with the existing one in order for both the dry and the harmonized lead parts to sound better. (the 2nd guitarist has a tasteful sound) 5. Using something like the 4 cable method (or more) to switch the channels of both amps with a press of 1 button on the HX. (control all of the above features in amps and HX with one button) 6. Use the distortion and clean channels on the amps and use the HX just for the effects (not the distortion modelling etc) Is this possible? Is there someone who has tried it? Is there something I am missing about the connections? Any help and suggestions will do PS. I take it for granted that the "suggestion" "find another real guitarist" has already been considered and can't work at the moment :P Thanks in advance.
  21. So, I have had the HX Effects for one year now. The ENTIRE time I have had it, I have not understood where this CONSTANT noise is coming from. FINALLY, the other day I turned OFF the FX Loop in the four cable method...and VOILA, NO noise!! It is extra severe when in my amp's distortion channel. (I play out of a three thousand dollar Orange amp that is pristine and SILENT when I plug my guitar straight in - so it IS the HX effects screwing up my scene.) Is there a fix to this problem??! Do I have to send it in?? (I don't have time for that). My solution for my show this saturday is to TOTALLY reprogram the thing for my ten song, forty minute set using the two cable method. So, I'll be piping the full sound of the effects etc directly into the front of the amp. This is NOT what I bought this thing for. So, essentially, my HX Effects is a huge failure and I can't send it back now. I hope there is a solution.
  22. Im new to the hx fx and could really use some recommendations and help regarding impulse responses. I run my guitar through a bbe sonic maximizer and then through a vox Ac50 ( with upgaded tubes, and V30’s :) ) I run the hx fx in 4cm. My band rehearses D.I. Into the mixer ( drummer plays a roland TD30, so its really nice) but its still important for me to use the AC50 as the tone is incredible and regardless of the fact we all use “ in ears” live and in rehearsal im using a moderate amount of amp volume on stage and blending it with my D.I. Signal into the P.A./monitors. Thats why i was really excited to use impulse responses. Heres where i can use some help/recommendations and opinions. 1. Ive played around with placing the IR block before and after the Fx loop 1 block. so far I prefer it placed after, but i cant really tell much of a difference. Anyone have any info or experience with this? what is your preference? 2. I downloaded a bunch of IRs . I have some “speaker” ones (the allure pack) and those all seem pretty useable. One of the best results ive had so far is the V30 IR (from allure) I have the mix set to 100 and the volume somewhere around -6.5 -8.0 db I also find it totally necessary to use the low cut feature as the bass frequencies easily start to overdrive. Changing IR,s the confusion/frustration/doubt starts to set in. Heres some examples- Acoustic guitar resonace ir’s i have , including this hollowbody ir i have sound absolutely funky. Maybe they are crappy idk but its led me to believe that IR’s work best emulating something similar to your sound. I mean i run v30s out of my cab. So running a V30 IR after my effects loop block seems to make my D.I. Signal sound alot more like my amp and that is a wonderful result. but trying to make it sound like a jazz box, or a hummingbird acoustic, is experimental and probably wont yield good results. However, i did load a gods cab (its like a 6505 with a mesa cab and a sm7b mic) it needed a ton of low cut. And it really overdrove my signal easily. But at -8.0 db lvl with 100mix and a low cut, when i added a distortion, i got a killer sound. I mean awesome metal tone. some feedback or personal experience on this would be a godsend. 3. So to some it up into some more direct questions. whats with the overdriving? are some of these ir,s supposed to be distorted? where as some are just clean cabinet/mic “simulations” (or moments in time whatever you wanna call it) -8db seems awful low for a level setting should i be looking elsewhere? what kind of mix and level do you guys use? Is 2048 samples always better? Anything pertaining to using impulse responses with hx fx in 4cm especially settings would help alot. If in the end i can properly add an IR to all my presets resulting in my DI sounding more realistic and just having better tone altogether i would be very happy. just dont know if im doing it right.
  23. While trying 4CM using my HXFX and a Boogie Rectoverb head (effects loop in amp modified to series ) I noticed a hum, ground loop style coming from my amp. I tried the same setup with a Marshall JCM 900 with the same result. When I insert a Ebtech hum eliminator on one of the lines the hum goes away. If the HXFX is connected to either amps' effects loop in the common way there is no hum. I tried with a variety of cables with same results. Anyone else have this problem?
  24. I'm experiencing a strange throbbing/oscillation when I use delays in 4cm. Here's a link to the sound: Anyone else had this issue?
  25. Hi all, I am fairly new here, and have a question regarding how to best connect my Hx Stomp (which I have ordered on Friday, and which should arrive this week :))))) So,I have a Line 6 Spider Valve amp, i.e. a tube preamp, a modelling section, and a tube main amp. What would be the best way to connect the stomp? Using the DIR in method? Or the 4 Cable Method? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Any help here would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Kalle
