  1. Where can I buy a James Tyler Variax 89f? I am not able to find a store in Europe that sells it.
  2. I am trying to update my JTV 89 F using my Helix as the interface through line 6 monkey. I have both the line 6 cable and the quarter inch jack connected to the guitar. Every time I try to update the firmware from 2.21 to 2.23 I am getting the following 2 errors (screenshot attached). Can anyone help on how I can get over this issue? ryi
  3. hi guys, I used to be a hd 500 user for a long time and recently have moved to helix. The gear that i currently run is JTV 89F -> Helix LT -> DT-25. I am struggling with a few things now with my set up: Firstly the DT25 integration with Helix tech is not that good as it was with HD 500. Is that true or is it just me? For instance you cant seem to switch between the 4 channels of the amp. The sound thats coming out of the amplifier seems to be very hard to dial in as well, as I have to adjust the knobs on the amp it self not the helix unit. What amp model/set up should I use to get a good acoustic sound out of my variax? As soon as I put an amp in the signal chain for an acoustic model it makes it sound very different. I want an amplified sound of the acoustic model without much color on it. Currently I am just using one or compressors which is also not that great of sound when it comes to the variax acoustic models. This set up coming out of my dt25 sound horrible for the acoustic models. A guy at a guitar shop suggested I should look at PAs or Roland Jc 40/120 amps. As they will give the best flat response with the helix doing the modeling and the PA/Amp doing just the basic amplification of the sound. The main reason for getting a dt25 was the compact size and the fact that it was a tube amp that can be used with a drummer in a live setting for a jam. My previous experience with PAs has not been that good as they are very big in size and dont hold that well in front of a drummer. The JC amps, I have no idea of. Any other amps or PAs that anyone would recommend? I dont want to go with line 6 PAs as they have alot of functionality on them that I will never use. Let me know if anyone is having similar issues and what did you do for it.
  4. SOLVED ! Greetings, I have a jtv 89f 2.22 updated and plugged with a variax cable in a HELIX 2.21 updated, just when I plugged it, the sound apear to be realy low and increase slowly by it self ... the only solution to fix the volume is to block it in the helix ... does any one have this problem ? 5. I love my JTV-89F. It's one of the best guitars I ever had. But, IMO, EMG active pickups are the best. I use EMG 81 and 85 and they sound great. So I decided to install those in my Variax JTV-89F. After searching the Internet I could not find any source of reliable information regarding this topic. So I decided to share my experience. I made a video documenting the process. You can find it on Youtube. !!! WARNING !!! If you do this, you'll void your guitar warranty. After installation all the Variax models are working perfectly. Also tuning and custom tuning. Issue #1: The EMG pickups do not allow to split coils and the Variax uses a 5 way switch. While in magnetic pickups mode, position 2 produces the same sound as position 1. And position 4 the same sound as position 5. 1 = Bridge 2 = Bridge 3 = Bridge + Neck 4 = Neck 5 = Neck When you activate the modeling mode, all the positions continue to be independent, as in stock mag pickups. Issue #2: When the active pickups are powered, the volume control acts almost as an on-off switch. At 1/5 of a knob turn you start to hear sound already at almost 80% gain. Bellow 1/5 of a turn, no sound at all. Issue #3: Tone knob seems to produce no noticeable effect. That's it. To me, now I have a perfect guitar. I don't use much the tone knob, and I can control volume with my volume pedal.
  6. Every guitar with a bridge hum-bucker that I have has a Duncan Custom Custom in it. It isn't that I don't like the JTV 89F pickups but more that I have all of my patches set to the Duncan Custom Custom. Has anyone else changed out the bridge pickup in the 89F to a Duncan? If so, any information, pictures, schematics, directions, etc., on how to do this would be greatly appreciated? Thanks!
  7. Hello All, The webpage says it comes in 5 different finishes, but it only shows 2. Is there any place where I can see the other colors? Finishes Black Metallic finish with black hardware Blood Red finish with black hardware Blue Pearl over Black finish with black hardware Transparent Black finish with black hardware Natural Satin finish with black hardware source:http://line6.com/jtv-89f-us/ Thanks,
  8. Afternoon all; I have a fairly new JTV-89F that has a D string that is much quieter than the other strings. All the strings ring out clearly via the magnetic pickups, but the D string is considerably quieter than the rest through the piezo. The problem exists whether I'm connected via the Line 6 digital interface cable or via a regular 1/4 inch jack. I have verified the issue is also present on two different rigs. Firstly on an old Marshall VS65R amp with no pedals, and also on my new Line 6 DT50 with an HD500. I have tried changing the strings and reseating them several times without any sucess. I have also upgraded to all the latest revisions of the Line 6 Monkey and all of the other associated software/firmware/drivers. I believe doing so does the equivalent of a factory reset on the guitar. I found a settings box in the workbench software that appears to show the individual string gain, and they were all set to 0 dB too. I can't imagine how the settings would have been anything other than the defaults, since I really haven't had a lot of time to dink around with this gear since I got it. Any ideas what I can try to get my D string to normal? Thanks.
