  1. Hello lovely people! I wanted to share my last original solo percussive guitar song and video ‘Ray of Hope’ with you. I am really looking forward to know your comments and if you enjoy please help me spread the word with sharing it around,it helps me a lot :) .I wish you all a great and creative new year! Thank you for your time! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qCYBEfjPx_U&feature=c4-feed-u Sotos
  2. I had a hard time with acoustic from the DT but I came up with a solution that seems to work well. This patch works amazing with my DT25 head, 2X12 sealed cab with Celestion V30s and it should work fine with any other DT setup. It may not be perfect but it works with all 5 acoustic models. This setup provides the clean, unprocessed guitar signal from the Variax straight to the DT power section without ANY amp sims... I put a flip top in channel A, centered the mixers and then mute channel A. You can use any amp model in channel A, it is just a placeholder. I use it for low DSP. We are not running through the flip top at all. We are only using it to "lock" the DT from switching to the amp in channel B and to control the physical topology. By placing no amp in channel B and muting channel A in the POD we effectively send the clean "unamped" acoustic guitar signal straight to the DT power section through channel B! I set the topology to III in HDEdit and it just gets that nice sort of resonance you would expect from an acoustic. We also have to change the input to Variax-Same to ensure that our signal is passed to channel B. You may have to turn up the mixer levels for volume matching and add an EQ for tone shaping. I use a reverb in the chain too. I also use this setup for synth tones through the DT. Place all your synth and FX blocks in the B path or the post mixer and you will get the pure synth without the amp coloring just like with a FRFR solution. Here is a link to a set list with a couple of variations of this concept... try it out and give me some feedback if you like the idea or not... http://share.cx.com/yGRXwV
  3. So I am a relatively new Variax owner (JTV-59), and I like the guitar a lot. I also bought a new HD500X at the same time. I do like and use the JTV's acoustic models & alternate tunings, and I have read a number of posts on this forum saying that some people think certain acoustic models were better on the old variax acoustic 700. I recently found a used one for sale in my area, and although I should not even think about it right now, I can't help but think about buying it. I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet, and am just thinking about it now, but if I was to check it out & consider buying it, what things in particular, outside of general condition & playability, should I be checking for in a used variax? Any telltale signs that I should look for in a used instrument of this particular model? I don't know if anything else is included with the guitar, like a case, or the power supply box at this point. I also don't know what kind of condition it's in except for what I can see in one fuzzy picture. I'll have to go see it in person to find out. The seller wants $350 for it. Any thoughts on buying a used variax 700 acoustic from anyone?? Thanks! B)
  4. I have a Variax 700 acoustic for sale. I've recently purchased a JTV, and while it's not quite as good for acoustic instruments as the 700 acoustic, I find that I'm not playing the acoustic as much. Here's a link to the ad: http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/msg/3794680159.html Thanks
  5. I am very happy with the improvement in sounds with the hd upgrade and I felt that the acoustics sounded better too (especially the 12 strings); however, someone on this forum said the acoustic models have not been changed at all. Have I been tricked by myself?
  6. The JM4 DESPERATELY needs an amp model for acoustic guitars. None currently give you true acoustic guitar sound like AUX does, but AUX can't be looped separately from the vocal. Turning off the amp model doesn't work either, because the acoustic still doesn't sound right in this input. Because of this, I can't even use my mic with it, which breaks my heart because the MIC features are AWESOME. This one change would make the JM4 the perfect tool for the 1-man band, which should be the target customer. We could even eliminate our mixers. How awesome would that be? One perfect little box for EVERYTHING! All we'd need is an inexpensive A/B switch between acoustic & electric guitars. Please go to Idea Scale, Line 6's place to submit ideas, and vote for my post (link below). Maybe they'll perfect this wonderful tool! http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/JM4-the-ALMOST-PERFECT-1-man-band-tool./495841-23508
  7. Hello, I just bought a Republic resonator guitar. It's acoustic only. I'm trying to record it using my Pod X3 and a (admittedly pretty cheap ;) ) microphone. Can someone suggest a good amp or preamp to use? And which settings they use? Right now I'm using the American classic with some compression. Frankly I'm having trouble getting acceptable levels, the signal tends to be pretty weak. I'm just not used to recording acoustic instruments at all... so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  8. While not technically a post about the JTV, this post exists because I bought a JTV :) I'm selling my acoustic 700 if anyone is in the market for one. I'm located in NC. Here's a link to the ad: http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/msg/3794680159.html Thanks

  10. Q: What is 'radius' on a neck? A: Radius refers to the amount of curve on the fretboard. A smaller number (i.e. 9.5") has a more pronounced curve than a larger number (i.e. 12"). Players who emphasize chording may prefer more round necks, while players who do a lot of bending may prefer flatter necks. Q: What is the nut width on the Variax electric guitars? Variax 300: 1 11/16" Variax 500: 1 5/8" Variax 600: 1 5/8" Q: What is the difference between maple (i.e. Variax 600) and rosewood (i.e. Variax 300) fretboards? A: Maple tends to be a bit brighter in tone, while rosewood tends to have a bit more sustain. Maple fretboards have some type of lacquer finish, as rosewood is traditionally unfinished. Q: What is "neck scale"? A: Neck scale is the distance from the bridge to the nut. All Variax electric guitars have a scale of 25.5" Q: What fretwire is used on the Variax Electric guitars? A: The closest fretwire in common use is the Dunlop 6130 wire, but it is not exactly the same wire. Q: What size allen wrenches are used on the Variax electric guitars? Tremolo arm and saddle height adjustment: 1.5mm Bridge height: 2.5 mm Truss Rod: 4mm Q: What kind of finish is used on the Variax? A: All Variax instruments use a polyester (yes, polyester) finish. Q: What type of glue is used in the hardware? A: Hide (i.e. horse) glue Q: What gauge D'Addario strings are on the Variax electric guitars? E: 10 (High) B: 13 G: 17 D: 26 A: 36 E: 46 (low) Variax Bass 700/705 B .130 (five-string model only) E .100 A .080 D .065 G .045 Q: What is the hole diameter for the tuning gears? A: The Variax guitars accept the standard 10mm (13/32nd") tuning gear. Q: What happens if I use different brand or gauge strings on my Variax bass or guitar? A: The results will be the same as changing string type or gauge on an analog bass or guitar. The Variax guitars are no different than most other guitars regarding setup and maintenance; the may need to be set up for different gauges play correctly, or seasonally to counteract climate changes. The Variax will accept any common string gauge for that instrument type. Q: Do the Variax guitars have a low or high output impedance? A: All Variax guitars are low impedance, and should be treated like they are active instruments. Q: What are the default custom positions?
