  1. I'm considering purchasing an HX stomp and know that it can do some of the scenarios I want to use with it but I'm not sure about this one. I could figure this out myself in a couple seconds if I owned the pedal but I'm trying to decide if this is possibly before I make the purchase. TLDR: Can you run an amp/cab block on one side of a signal chain only and allow the other to go out unprocessed. The point would be to run a stereo rig with a real amp on one side and a modeled amp on the other. I know that I can do this if I run my entire pedalboard as it exists into the HX stomp acting just as Amps - then I could plug one pedalboard output into the Stomp and one into my amp. Easy. However, I really want the HX stomp to be fully integrated with my pedalboard. I want to run my signal chain as Guitar > Comp > Drive Pedals > HX Stomp > Stomp FX Loop Send > Stereo Delay > Stereo Reverb > Stomp FX Loop Return > Pedalboard out If I do this it lets me add additional effects before or after my delay/reverb or put my delay/reverb after the amp sims if I'm running direct. It also lets me make patches with no amps to run my pedalboard into real amps. However, there is a specific use where I want to run a single real amp and a modeled amp as the other side of the stereo chain. Can I do this within the editor/interface? I would need to put an amp block on the right side signal only. Thanks and sorry if this has been answered - Searching for "Stomp Amps Left Only" or Right Only doesn't give any useful search results...

    HX Stomp into an Amp

Hello, So my main option for now is to use the HX Stomp as another pedal in my pedalboard (mainly for modulation effects like delay, reverb, tremolo, etc..). I have some questions about the overdrive section. How good or which OD in the HX Stomp sounds good when using a tube amp?.. Im gonna upload a photo of my pedalboard for reference. My other question is... Im using a Tumnus mini and I would like to know if its a good idea to usa a booster from the HX Stomp or buy an analog booster?. Im using a Fender Blues Deluxe Tube Amp and the HXS is connected with the 4CM so I can put my modulations through the amp's effects loop.

    Helix into Front of Amp

Hello all, Lets say you don't have 4CM as an option into your amp. What are some suggestions of constructing a signal chain to go in the front of an amp? For example - volume pedal --> distortion --> delay --> Reverb?
  4. This document explains how to update the flash memory of the Spider Valve Mk II using the FBV Mk II and Line 6 Monkey on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and Mac OSX 10.4.11, 10.5.8 and 10.6.x. Before you get started, you will need to have your Spider Valve Mk II connected to the FBV Mk II (Express or Shortboard) using a CAT-5 cable, and you will need to have your FBV Mk II unit connected to an open USB port on the back of your computer (do not use a USB hub). Be sure that your computer is connected to the internet. 1) Run Line 6 Monkey and you will be asked which unit you want to work with. Highlight the Spider Valve Mk II unit and select 'OK'. 2) Highlight 'flash memory' (it will turn blue), then select 'update selection'. 3) Select 'Yes' to continue. 4) Select "I Accept" for the software agreement and select 'continue'. 5) Select 'Yes' to update the Flash memory. Do not run any other programs or disconnect the cables while performing the update. 6) Allow the unit to go through the update process. This can take 5-10 minutes. 7) Select 'OK' when the update is finished. 8) You will see a green check mark in front of flash memory to show it is now up to date. Note: If you are having difficulty getting the Spider Valve Mk II to update, you can start the amp in "boot mode" by powering the unit up while holding the "Manual" and "B" buttons.
  5. Application Q: What are the presets on my Spider Valve Mk II amplifier? A: There are 64 presets (16 banks of 4) programmed into the amplifier at the factory, and 64 “empty preset locations for an end user to program. The “empty 64 preset locations have defaults (1-4) in them as a starting place. Q: I noticed that the Artist/Song Presets from the Spider IV are not present on the Spider Valve Mk II? A: Yes, as many end users had asked for more locations to store their personal presets, we have removed the artist/song presets for the Spider Valve Mk II. Q: Are the Spider Valve Mk II series amps Mono(phonic)? A: Yes, the Spider Valve Mk II series amplifiers have a monophonic output (as are most tube amplifiers). Q: How can I connect a POD unit to my Spider Valve Mk II series amplifier? POD Connections, Routing and the 4 Cable Method Q: Do the Master volume and presence control applied to the power amp section only? A: Yes, the master volume and presence control are true analog. Q: Where is the Master volume located in the chain? A: it is after the preamp, and before the power amp. Specifications Q: What are the specifications of the Spider Valve Mk II series? Spider Valve Mk II Specifications Q: What speakers are used in the Spider Valve Mk II amplifiers? Spider Valve 112: Celestion Vintage 30, 8 ohm Spider Valve 212: (2) Celestion Vintage 30s, 16 ohm Spider Valve 412 cabinet: (4) Celestion Vintage 30s, 16 ohm Q: What tubes ship in the Spider Valve Mk II amplifiers? What is the power output? Spider Valve Mk II 112 & 212: (2) Sovtek 12AX7B preamp tubes, (2) Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC power amp tubes. 40 watts. Spider Valve Mk II HD: (2) Sovtek 12AX7B preamp tubes, (4) Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC power amp tubes. 100 watts. Q: What are the function of the 12AX7 tubes? A: V1 is the booster to the output tubes, V2 is the phase inverter for the output tubes. When viewing the SV MKII HD100 upright from the back, V1 is on the right side. On the combo, V1 is on the left side. Q: Can the Spider Valve Mk II handle another 12A_7 style tube without damage to tubes or circuitry? A: Yes, but as these tubes act as a phase inverter and a boost to the power amp (rather than traditionally "cleaning up" the preamp section), you may not get the result you are looking for. Q: What Line 6 controllers work with the Spider Valve Mk II series amplifier? Controller compatibility chart Setup/Connection Q: Is there a bias switch to change the power tubes to EL-34s or other power tube types? A: No, the Spider Valve Mk II does not offer bias switchable options and was designed to only be used with 6L6 power amp output tubes. Q: Is there a headphone output on the Spider Valve Mk II series? A: There is no headphone output on the Spider Valve Series, but you can use the XLR output to go to a mixer, then use the headphone jack from the mixer. Q: Can I run my Spider Valve Mk II amplifier without a speaker load? A:No, you cannot run the Spider Valve Mk II series without a speaker load. Please see the following link for more information on cabinet connections: Cabinet Connection and Ohm F.A.Q. Q: Can the Spider Valve Mk II be run with a Variac? A: This is not recommended as the lower voltage can cause problems with the digital processing in the Preamp section of the Spider Valve Mk II. Q: Can I run a Palmer S.E., THD Hot Plate, Power Soak, etc. for speaker simulation or power attenuation? A: There are no known issues regarding the use of any direct recording simulators or power attenuators between the power amp output and the speaker cabinet, but if there is damage caused by improper connections or malfunctioning gear it will not covered under the Line 6 warranty. Q: Do the Spider Valve Mk II 112 and 212 combos support external speaker cabinets? If so, will the external cabs mute the internal speakers of the Spider Valve Mk II? A: Yes, the Spider Valve Mk II supports the use of additional cabinets. Please ensure that the ohm load is correct to avoid damaging your amplifier if you intend to use both the internal and external speakers simultaneously. Q: What is the bias voltage for the Sovtek 5881WXT tubes? A: 35 mV (+/-2mV) Q: Does the XLR output still send signal when the amplifier is on standby? A: In some cases yes, in some no. Spider Valve MkII actually has two different modes of Direct Out, which can be found in the SETUP menu in Edit Mode. They are Studio and Performance. Studio mode is a traditional, DSP POD-style output with speaker simulation and will function when the amplifier is in standby mode. In contrast, Performance mode takes a tap off the output transformer, then goes through the speaker simulation before going through the Direct Out. This allows the tubes to interact with the DSP, and because the amp has to be on to allow this to happen, there will be no signal at the XLR output in standby if Performance mode is selected. Q: Does the Spider Valve Mk II have an FX loop? A: the Spider Valve Mk II has a pre-amp out (effect send) and Power amp in (effect return) section. Q: Is the effect loop series or parallel? Is the effect loop mono or stereo? A: The effect loop is series mono. Q: Does the Spider Valve Mk II have MIDI ports? A: Yes, the Spider Valve Mk II amplifier series has both MIDI in and MIDI out ports, and the Spider Valve Mk II will accept MIDI program changes on MIDI Channel 1-16, from values 00-127. The MIDI channel assignment can be accessed by pushing the “preset encoder and using the left/right arrow key to reach “MIDI. This greatly increases the opportunity to integrate Spider Valve MkII’s into your existing rig, and will also allow you to update your amps firmware via MIDI. See the advanced user’s guide for the full MIDI story. Q: Can I send a MIDI output from the Spider Valve Mk II to another MIDI-capable Line 6 amplifier and control both amplifiers with one FBV controller? A: Yes, but as different Line 6 amplifiers have different MIDI implementation you will want to go through each control on the FBV to ensure that you get the desired control on both units. Q: Is there an editor where I can connect my Spider Valve Mk II to my computer and edit/store tones? A: Yes, Spider Valve Edit is the editing software that can be used to edit the Spider Valve Mk II. Please see the following link for more information: Spider Valve Edit FAQs Q: What do the FBV Shortboard series stomp, FX Loop/Function 1, and Function 2 do? A: The Stomp button activates the "boost" on both the original FBV shortboard series (Mark I) and Mark II controllers. The FX Loop (Mk I)/Function 1 (Mk II) activates the Noise gate. The Function 2 (Mk II only) activates the loop feature on the Spider Valve Mk II. Q: What do the FBV Shortboard MkII Function 1 and Function 2 buttons do with Spider Valve MkII? How is it different from the original FBV Shortboard? A: The Function 1 button activates the Boost setting saved with each preset. The Boost setting (up to 8db pre and/or post amp model) can be found by entering “edit mode on the SV MkII and pressing the R arrow on the 4-way nav button. The button equivalent to Function 1 on the original FBV Shortboard is labeled FX Loop. The Function 2 button (FBV Shortboard MkII only) is equivalent to the Quick Loop button on the faceplate of the SV MkII, and arms the built in Looper. For full functionality of the Looper, see the Spider Valve MkII Advanced User Guide. In addition, the Stomp button activates the first Smart FX on both the original and MkII FBV Shortboard controllers. Q: Can I run the Spider Valve Mk II head with only the outer two power tubes (removing the inner pair) to operate at a lower output volume? A: Yes, it is safe to run the Spider Valve Mk II Head with two 6L6s. It is recommended that the output impedance be run at "half" when running in this configuration. An example would be running the 8 ohm head output connected to the 16 ohm cabinet connection, or the 4 ohm output to an an 8 ohm cabinet connection. Line 6 recommends re-biasing your amplifier to 35mv after removing the tubes, as the current draw will have changed. Q: Where is the fuse located in the chain? A: The fuse is located between the 12AX7s and 6L6s (there is no “master fuse). Spider Valve Cabinet FAQs Q: What are the specs for the Line 6 4x12 cabinet? A: 9 ply, ¾ wood with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. There is no “internal baffle. Q: What are the ohm load options for the 4x12 cabinet? A: The switchable ohm load options for the 4x12 cabinet are 16 ohm mono, 8 ohm stereo, and 4 ohm mono. Trouble shooting Q: What is the manufacturer’s warranty for Spider Valve Mk II? A: The warranty for the Spider Valve Mk II amplifier is 12 months from the date of purchase, the tubes warranty is 90 days from the date of purchase. Q: How do I perform a factory reset on my Spider Valve Mk II? A: The factory reset for the Spider Valve Mk II series is to hold the "A" button while powering the unit, then pushing the “presets encoder twice. Q: I hear a loud "pop" when I switch between certain presets on the Spider Valve MKII. Is this normal? A: Sometimes if the Channel Volume is set or saved too low on a preset a loud pop will be heard when navigating to it and away from it. This is because of the level difference between it and the other saved presets. Try adjusting the preset's Channel Volume above "12:00" and saving again. This should level out the difference between the presets and eliminate the popping sound. Q: Will using different brands of 6L6 tubes in the Spider Valve Mk II void the warranty? A: No, feel free to experiment with other tubes of the same type as long as they are correctly biased. Q: My amp seems to be malfunctioning. What can I do as an end user? HX Stomp Question

Hello, I was wonderwing if with the HX Stomp i can get 1 signal chain with effects/amp modeling/IR impulse to go to the FOH, and a second signal with just effects/amp modeling to my power amp and cab (so without IR impulse). Thanks in advance!! Greetz Wouter
  7. I just purchased a helix like a week ago and I’m starting to get the hang of it. I’ve been watching tutorials and and reading forums. My question was, does it matter where in the signal path I place the amp or cabs? Does it make a difference? Everything I’ve read or watched, people just seem to place it somewhere in the middle. Or do you have to think of it like a real pedal board, where the amp comes last? Please help.

    HD500X / Amp Question

Hey All, I was watching this YT vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjEolSe71Jw At the beginning of the vid, the guy explains his signal chain and says that he's "...hooked the POD directly into the power amp section of the Blues Deluxe bypassing the whole tone stack. The Pre Amp is gone and he can't even control the volume using the amp's controls...". Can some of the more experienced folks tell me is this is the same as using an amp's F/X loop? And, if anyone has a BD, is this a typical "feature" of the amp or is it something that's most probably a post purchase mod? Thanks! Bill
  9. Hi there, I'm fairly new to audio production, and have just purchased a Pod Studio UX2 for my mic setup and I'm looking to invest in some quality headphones. From what I understand the higher the Ohm range of the headphones the more power they require and if underpowered there volume may be bottleknecked. My UX2 is connected to a desktop, and I was wondering if connecting the headphones (I'm looking at a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro's) to the output of my UX2 would provide enough power to get good, loud sound? Thanks Billy

    Need Help with Amp Set-Up

Hello, I recently bought a Gibson Les Paul and Line 6 V60 amp from guitar center. I'm having trouble with editing the options in the amp to match the tone of some of the songs that I want to learn and cover. Is there a place where I can learn about what each effect, settings ,etc does. I tried doing Since I've Been Loving You, Archilles Last Stand, Sweet Child of Mine, and Jimmy Hendrix songs but I have a hard time figuring out what I need to do. I know experience plays a big role but I really have no one that I can turn to for help/advice to help me get started. Did I mess up on my gear selection? I've literally spent hours researching online what a particular artist uses for a particular song and then try to find the right settings on my amp using the spider app but I always get stuck. Any suggestions would like tutorials, or at least gear recommendations would help. I can't go out and buy things right away but what are some essential things that I can add in the future that will help with my guitar experience? Thanks!

    Fender Clean?

I've always really liked the sound of my 8-string through a clean fender amp (usually a Fender Deluxe) with the pickups set to single coil, but I can't quite seem to recreate that sound in the Helix. It's got a certain tightness and "slap" that just doesn't come through when I try messing with the fender amps in the Helix. I even tried using my own Fender Twin cab IRs. I need something crisp and spanky but still clean, can anyone tell me what to do?

Use amp or go directly to speakers?

Hello, I have been using Helix for 7-8 months and have listened to myself primarily through headphones. I have also been recording stuff using Helix. Now I want to start using it in studios and gigs and I am unsure whether to plug in Helix directly into speakers or to go into the guitar amp input? I also don't know how does this affect the presets I've been using. My presets all use a combo amp + cab block, which I guess I should change if I actually use a real amp? Thanks in advance :)

    MIDI Control of Mesa TC-50

I'm having a tough time getting my TC-50 head to respond to my Helix LT for amp control via MIDI. This is my first time attempting to use MIDI. I'm connected to the amp via 4cm, with the MIDI connected from the out on the helix to the in on the amp. I'm running the helix in snapshot mode. What I'm specifically trying to achieve is channel changes on the amp, along with standard effect/parameter changes in helix. Example: Footswitch 1: CLEAN on TC-50 with Helix reverb + delay Footswitch 2: LO on TC-50 with Helix overdrive + reverb Amps midi CC numbers/values for channels: CLEAN = CC 20 w/ value 64 - 127 LO = CC 21 w/ value 64 - 127 HI = CC 22 w/ value 64 - 127 Things to note. The amp also responds to midi program changes - I've noticed that if I scroll through the presets menu that my amp changes channels with varying features coming on and off. So for some reason helix is sending program changes when loading a preset. If I could isolate that function to snapshots I would also be happy, as I could use the amp's solo/reverb/fx loop options as well instead of just singular purpose CC messages. Any help much appreciated.
  17. I was thinking of using the ext amp on the Helix LT as a footswitch to control the Boss RC3. I don't have the RC3 yet but would like to know if it is possible.

    Enhancements? UPDATES?

Dear Line 6, Is the FireHawk 1500 support or enhancements dead?????? You have such an awesome underdeveloped product here. The majority of the needs are in software and editability settings and with the FVB 3. I love the amp but it is a 63.14 lb. Living Room Brick. Because of the lack of editing for live performances. Please step up and enhancement the product. You have very skilled people on your team that are real players. They know what is needed. Guys isn't all about the Helix, Helix LT, Helix Stomp, Helix Effect. You won't get us to buy any of these or future products when you ignore our other stuff. PS I've had your stuff from the very beginning. You are bring in all these new product and your attention to the other products had slipped. There hasn't been an update or enhancement even on your Varaix other than the Suriken. Absolutely nothing for a very long time. People spend the money on your type of products because there is an expectation of enhancement. Both by design within software and electronic. FH1500, JTV-69, FVB3, X3Live, POD, POD farm

Hd500x - Output To Mixer And Amp

Hello all, I can't find it today, but I saw somewhere on here instructions for sending two outputs from the HD500X - one direct to the mixing console and another to my amp. IIRC: XLR Left Output to the mixing console and the 1/4" Left output to my amp. Does that sound correct? What output setting do you recommend I use? Thanks for helping out a noob.

    heavy metal without amp preset

Question: HOw do you guys play all this amp, preamp, cabinet presets with a real amp? Can't figure it out. Do you run with a mixer or? Example: I practise and play on stage with a Blackstar ID260. Got everything turned down to the NO effect channel. Connect my Helix with the input of the amp. Now, all preset models in the Helix with an amp, or preamp sound horrible. Only thing to do is get rid of this stuff. I don't want to use the 4cm because of plug and play gigs. How do I get this really heavy sound?
  22. I'm trying to get more signal to my Mic path output. Preamps alone don't have enough umph. So what amp will give me natural flat boost without distortion?
  23. just got helix lt today going direct into mackie mixer into mackie hr824's . initial impressions are very good.the scribble strips are not missed at all. modeling is very good. I thought the definite improvement over past modeling are the distorted amps.clean amps were just ok ( a bit thin[lack of bass],but going direct with global eq at default). effects are decent, but seemed to lack something, in particular, the delays in some way. presets are mostly weak. now, here is my dilemma. I use 2 hybrid tube/solid state amps and a delay pedal and a line6 m5 (used sparingly) and just love the sound. I found I liked the sound much more than helix lt?! what is wrong with me?! this just cant be. but here is the thing, the amps just have this sound I love. I am sure with some editing I can come close with helix maybe. only advantage I can hear is that I can go direct with helix for recording where as with my amps I have to mic them and hear chair creaks coughs etc...but the sound of my amps/effects just are perfect to my ears and blow away the helix for that type of sound. now hi gain /distortion- no doubt the helix is very good. but I don't use distortion as often as I used to, in fact, I still find the pod xt live plenty for me and I don't dislike the sounds I get at all.the distortions in line 6 m5 are just ok ,but pod xt live is much better and helix is better than both.. I love the pod xt live as its just fun to play into 2 solid state amps though i need to add a bit of reverb/delay. globally with outboard effects. just trying to justify $1000 and just not sure I can;helix lt is a great unit, but for me it may not be the answer. perhaps a pod hd500x would be better for me as I do dislike the pod xt live not syncing time based effects to midi clock (I think the 500x does this).I tried the 500x and didn't like it much at the time, but might be enough for me).I just think the helix is overkill.I do like that steve vai hi gain patch though.... conclusion thus far, I am thrilled with my clean amps, delay pedal and m5 setup and even my pod xt live. I found the helix excellent but cant justify 1k for my needs. Well, will try helix into my solid state amps and see if that works better for me

    Fryette amp and cab sims?

Any hope of convincing the developers to add a Fryette Deliverance 60/120 amp sim with the more and less gain channels, Deliverance 2/4x12 with Fane speakers? Seems to me like it could be a good addition without doubling up what's already there. I'd be in favor of the Sig:X too! Also, seems like an HM-2 Boss Heavy Metal pedal sim would be fun too! Thoughts? Or bubble bursts?
