  1. Hi, I have a technical issue regarding a certain setup with the POD Go. I have two amps: a Marshall JVM410 combo and a BOSS Katana Artist. I want to use the distortion of the Marshall, with the Katana mirroring what the Marshall is outputing, that is, using the Katana as a power amp. The reason behind using two amps is that I want to use time-based stereo effects on both amps. The stereo effects work with no problem as expected, but the problem is that the Katana doesn't "mirror" the signal from the Marshall. Instead, the sound comes clean through the Katana, while using the distortion on the Marshall. This is how I set it up: - Guitar to Guitar in of the POD Go. - POD Go Send to Marshall front Input. - Marshall Send to POD Go Return - POD Go L Main out to Marshall Return. - POD Go R Main out to Katana Return/Power amp inputs. In the POD Go preset: - I have the FX Loop Stereo block turned on. - I turned off Amp and Cab. Using the POD Go R Main out to the Katana Return produces the clean sound (no distortion), without outputing the FX Loop signal passed through the Marshall amp. Using the POD Go R Main out to the Katana Power amp input produces no sound at all. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. Is there something like a global setting which I have to turn on to output the signal passed and returning from the FX loop to another amp? Is it possible, or I am not understanding correctly how FX loop works? I appreciate your help.
  2. When i try to load tonefiles, i experience deactivated amps / effects. See attachement. Why is that so? How can i get missing elements? Greetz Lothar
  3. One of my geek tests ... Same pedal, 72 different amps. https://youtu.be/IooCYtJADIg
  4. Hi, I am trying to run my 6505 head into the Stomp FX loop by using the send and return. The head of course is running on line level with a load as it is fully cranked. So I am not using the fx loop of my amp! I am connecting the amp like a distortion pedal. I am devastated because it creates a feedback loop. Is it a fact that heads cannot be run with the Helix or is there a solution? I really want to use some effects before the overdrive section but I never tried this with a multi effects unit. I also tried to run directly into the return instead of the main input and then assigning the block to return, this creates no feedback but then the blocks before the loop block do not work! Thanks, Heiko
  5. Has anyone bought or tried the PowerTrain Stage 50 (from ValveTrain)? http://www.valvetrainamps.com/all-tube-powered-monitors/powertrain-stage-50/
  6. In the past few months I've been trying to really get back in the swing of playing guitar again and trying to learn more about effects, chains, all kinds of fun stuff. I bought the HD500x, and I've been getting a lot more comfortable with understanding the interface and experimenting with the different effects looking for the best tone to play with my team. What I wanted to learn about here is why someone might use the dual amp feature instead of just a single amp. Obviously it's about finding creating the right tone, but I was curious of any existing resources on the benefits of using mixed dual amps or perhaps two of the same amps. Thanks in advance!
  7. This is a thread for guitarists (and bassists! The low end is important!) who want to share what their rig is and what they are planning in the future. Share what Guitars, Effects and amps you have! Currently I'm a part of a Punk band and this is what I work with: Guitars: A Stratocaster (Looking at some Les Pauls and some dimarzio evolution humbuckers. An old mexican squier tele currently it doesn't have a nut or strings Pedal Board the good ol' Boss tuner, the tu-3 Boss BD-2 ( my favourite overdrive by far) Boss MD-2 Arion Chorus (the thing is like as old as a dinosaur but sounds super good) Hx stomp 1. Phaser 2. Tremolo 3. Britt 2204 4. 4x12 cali 30 cab 5. Plate verb 6. Digital Delay Boss dd-7 (isn't a part of the board, because I'm using the hx stomp for delay but will use it soon so I can free up space on the stomp for eq) That's my Rig so far I'm planning on buying some more effects and a boss Katana 212
  8. Good day, I got the PodGo because I am new to effects, all the previews said it was pretty easy to use, and it was more economical then the pedal setup I was considering. It has been nice playing the bass over the laptop speakers to YouTube backing tracks. However, (day two of ownership) I would like to connect Pod Go to my amp combo but be able to switch between: My amp combo effects and eq with just effects from the PodGo (no amp and cab models) PodGo effects, amp, and cab models with my amp combo eq but no amp combo effects PodGo effects, amp, cab, and eq models with no effects from my amp combo I have a Peavey Max 100 amp combo that has a couple of on-off eq profile buttons, and connectors for active input, passive input, FX loop, DI, and footswitch. The Quick Start on page 7 of the 1.10 owners guide has a setup for powered speakers but it does not say which input to connect to. Should I be connecting to the active input or the return FX loop? How do I assign a foot-switch to toggle between no PodGo and no amp combo effects? My bass ( Ibanez GSR205SM ) has active pickups, a tone knob, and an eq knob that rolls over a low/mid/high boost/cut profile. Do I need to have these knobs turned all the way down using the PodGO to the amp combo? I don't want to overload anything by sending boost/effects from both the bass, PodGo, and amp combo. Is there a way to filter the amps and cabs for ones used for bass? There are a few factory bass presets in banks 12 and 13 so I know those ones are for bass. However, in PodGo Edit there is no indication of what is bass and what is guitar. I saw a review of other Line 6 products where this filtering was an option. Is this coming in a firmware and/or software update. Perhaps just putting the bass clef in one of the corners of the amp/cab icon would help. Thanks
  9. I got a DT25 combo in trade 3 years ago for an Epiphone LP i had bought that i just couldn't bond with. Being an HD500x user and Variax JTV59 owner i couldnt say no! I fell in love with the combo. My old band that split in 2009 got together for a reunion show or two and i ended up gigging with the DT25 instead of my Carvin V3 head and 4X12 cab. I got compliments both gigs from the sound guys and both almost said the same thing. "I saw you loading in a line 6 and almost died but that thing sounds great!" I started keeping my eyes peeled on local CL ads for any DTs. I found a DT25 head for $200 locally. I went to dudes house and he led me to his studio. Walls covered in beautiful PRS, LPs and the like. 2 Diezel VH4s in the corner. And he let me try it out. I played it for 5 minutes and passed him 2 bills. I've religiously used both amps since i got the head. I'm not in a band and i dont gig now but i jam a lot. I always wantes the DT50. Finally found one on GC used for $395. it'll arrive next Tuesday. I'm sellimg the DT25 head to my coworker for $350. I'm excited to rock the DT50!!! If L6 were to update these and start selling them, i'd probably buy a helix and a couple of their heads too!
  10. Going into regular amp using helix amp or preamp WITHOUT cabinet or IRs Experimenting because I feel like there's already a real speaker in this scenario and an emulated one can make it sound muddied or 2nd generation. The sound feels more present just using real speaker, not modeled. I do like some of the qualities that come with the cabinet, eliminating some harshness produced by an amp on its own. Appreciate any musings on EQ or FX that would be nice after the Helix amp and before the real amp. I've been playing with eq and compressors I'm going into a Roland KC-550 and KC-500 stereo, and a Egnater Tweaker through a Carvin 212. Straight in on the Rolands. On the Tweaker still playing with input vs effects return. ~cheers
  11. Hey I just had a thought the other day about possibly creating a preamp through the HX EFFECTS & am wondering if anyone else has tried this?.. OD/DS Pedal ---> EQ Pedal ---> IR Cabinet Sim The idea is the the OD/DS gives u the preamp while the EQ pedal helps you shape the sound a bit more since the first pedal is limited and than add an IR cab to simulate the desired cabinet.
  12. Hello to everyone! I am thinking of buying the Helix Hx Effects for one purpose (among others) I want to recreate the "feel" of a second guitarist, and by reading and searching other subforums here, I haven't come to an end. My way of thinking is simple 1. guitar to the HX 2. split the signal with a (HX) delay of eg. 20ms-1repeat in 2 amps having the 2nd amp giving back just the feedback. (the "2nd" guitarist is created) 3. Having a (HX) harmonizer on, fully panned so amp1 plays the note I am playing (dry signal) and amp2 just the "harmonized" note. (the "2nd" guitarist is playing his "seperate" part) 4. Add a new delay along with the existing one in order for both the dry and the harmonized lead parts to sound better. (the 2nd guitarist has a tasteful sound) 5. Using something like the 4 cable method (or more) to switch the channels of both amps with a press of 1 button on the HX. (control all of the above features in amps and HX with one button) 6. Use the distortion and clean channels on the amps and use the HX just for the effects (not the distortion modelling etc) Is this possible? Is there someone who has tried it? Is there something I am missing about the connections? Any help and suggestions will do PS. I take it for granted that the "suggestion" "find another real guitarist" has already been considered and can't work at the moment :P Thanks in advance.
  13. My Spider iv 75 has just lost all power , I built a whole new casing to hold the brain and speaker was working ok but seemed to lose all power nothing lights up
  14. Hello, I was wondering if there are any amps that you could compare the powercab to? Just to have something to compare it with. Does somebody know some sorth of similar amp that is usable with amp modeling system and especially the helix? Beside regular PA speakers. Thanks!
  15. What are you using the pre blocks for?... reason i am asking is so far not really finding ever using them....I tried 1) Using as an amp before a cab 2) Using a pre before an amp block (yuk) While they use less dsp I am not finding them useful so I am asking you what and how are you using them if at all.
  16. I am trying to place modulation, delay & reverb effect within the Helix after the preamp stage of my amp. Is there any reason why I couldn't utilise a send from the Helix to the input of my amp & return this from the amps preamp out to the Helix return then use the 1/4" mono out to the amps return? so the signal chain would be Guitar - into the Helix through any Wah, Distortion Crompression etc - out of the Helix Send - into Amp input - From Amp Preamp out - to Helix return & through modulation, delay reverb - out of Helix 1/4" mono out - into Amp's return. A y thiughts Is there any reason why I cannot send a
  17. Ok, I know that there have been multiple topics on this, but none I have found pertained to my specific situation. I'm certain that I am running out of DSP way too quickly. I'm currently setting up a preset with 1 volume pedal, 1 compressor, 1 wah, 1 cab + amp, and 1 amp and IR. I'm already getting effects grayed out. I can add some modulation and delay effects, but reverb is totally grayed out, among some other things. I have signal path one set to run to signal path 2, so I should have the full DSP power available to me. What am I missing here? Is something wrong? I've encountered this before and after updating to v2.50 and performing a factory reset. Thank You!
  18. Here is what I am looking for... I'd like to run two amps (one for clean tone, one for dirty tone w/ possible tube screamer), and be able to alternate between the two. Initially, I was thinking of running dual signal path for this, and then setting everything to the same switch (pressing the switch turns on dirty amp mod and tube screamer, and turns off clean amp and vice-versa), but I would need the unused path to be muted. I would assume the other way to do it (in the same patch) would be to run the amps in series. I am running a mono output, so I don't need stereo signals. I'd rather not have to set a different patch (in each block of 4) for each different tone in a song. And I would also be concerned about the delay between switching (the firehawk was a nightmare with this, I didn't keep it long...). I'm new to the PODHD world, and I've only been able to spend a few hours with the HD500x thus far. If anyone can give me good insight into how to set this up, I'd appreciate it. For a little more info, I'll be leaning towards the higher gain amps for my dirty tone (Fireball, Elektrik, etc.), and so far I'm liking the blackface for my cleans. My amp rig is a 6505 on an 212 orange cab with vintage 30s. I love my dirty tone from the amp, but I'm currently just using it as a power-amp to see what the HD can do. I find running it into the effect return on the head sounds much better than the instrument line in on the front.
  19. May be old news to some.. But with the ever growing list of guitar and bass amps.. thought this may be useful for someone. http://dshowmusic.com/line-6-helix-amp-models/
  20. Hi All Wanted to see how you are using dual amp setups. I have been experimenting trying to get a tone I like using two amps hard panned. Since I play in a three piece (Guitar Bass, Drums) it gets kinda thin sometimes so I tried doing some effects on one path or the other which ended up sounding pretty cool. This video was set to our recent online live session and has this kind of dual path setup described above. Path A Soldano Lead Panned hard right with a tremolo in line Path B Rectifier With a Pitch Whammy panned hard left I leave the mix so that the Guitar path stays complete while leaving the effects to create a kind of 'been over dubuded' sound but still only the one live performance
  21. Even when I first had the Boss GT-5, I realized that I would soon be embracing this new approach to getting guitar sounds. No, it did not sound as good as my Blues Deluxe but it's flexibility and adaptability shined a very bright light on an amp's limitations for me. All amps, tube or otherwise, have steadily disappointed me with their limitations, weight and cost. I still have a couple (neither are tube amps) because they are fun to play through and they're always there already set up and ready to go. In fact this brings me to the one disadvantage of modeling pedals. I gig with the Helix so at home it's always put away in its case. If I want to use it at home, I gotta hook it up to either my studio system or headphones. But I never do. I just plug into one of my amps.
  22. Recorded a bit and interested on opinions of these tones, all done with helix. Both of these are using the matchstick jump amp, both are using built-in cabs (blue+v30). this is tele + matchstick https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/summa-vacay this is strat + matchstick (lead tone kicks in about 40 seconds) https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/sunset welcome any and all comments / suggestions on the tones please
  23. The Helix LT is awesome. Not had it long, but damn is it impressive. There's just one thing bugging me about amp emulation. Example… Fender Deluxe Reverb. On a real one (excluding the built in Vibrato and Reverb) the only pots are VOLUME, TREBLE, BASS. Note that there is no MIDDLE pot, unlike a Fender Twin. However, on the Helix Deluxe Reverb model, I have DRIVE, BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE, PRESENCE, CH VOL, MASTER, etc. I dislike how Helix amp controls seem to be a one size fits all approach. I find it very hard to dial in the sound of my real Deluxe Reverb into a Helix emulated version. There's effectively THREE pots that control volume! There is no DRIVE channel on a real Deluxe Reverb either, yet dialing down the DRIVE to zero gets you complete silence. Then there's the EQ issue. I could be wrong about this, but I've heard that the EQ on a Fender blackface only 'removes' frequencies and doesnt add any to the sound. It certainly behaves that way. So having both TREBLE and BASS dialed up to 10 is basically your guitar's original signal, and anything less is either removing bass or treble, depending on which pot you adjust. The Helix pots do not seem to behave like this though. It seems more like 50% is the normal signal and anything more will ADD to the signal. Again, frustrating. I realize that Line 6 can't really change this way of working without screwing up everybody's existing patches, but it would be nice to have an option in the preferences (or perhaps on a per patch basis) for 'Legacy' or 'New' amp controls. 'New' of course being a more faithful to what controls are on the actual amp. Strange that they DO appear to go all out on modelling the controls of effects pedals, e.g. I noticed that the OCD effect even has the HP switch and a switch to toggle between versions of the pedal! You may ask why I need to have the amp modelled so precisely, if I have the real amp, but there's a million obvious reasons why i'd want an emulated version too, such as for playing through headphones or recording direct to Logic. Anyway, i'm mainly just sounding off, but any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!
  24. So... I'm a little new to this equipment:) I currently have a Line 6 half stack (Spider 2 150w) and a Marshall MG half stack. If I purchase one of the Line 6 Pods (looking at XT Pro).....am I able to output to both of the amps simultaneously.....or can I only output to one amp. Sorry if the answer is obvious.....I've looked through the online manual....but the answer wasn't jumping out at me:) Thanks!! Jamie
  25. Does anyone know where i could see a list of AMP models in the Helix and what Cabs they would typically be paired with? Including mic combinations? Looking for a starting point guide.
