  1. In my past I managed to achieve a really nice distorted tone with the POD Screamer. Recently I tried to recreate that tone with real pedals and noticed that it sounded nothing like that which shouldn't be a suprise because the Pod-Screamer has Bass and Treble controls which the real Tube Screamer doesn't have. So what exactly is the real model of the POD-Screamer? The only thing I found with Bass and Treble controls is the ''Boss ODB-3 Bass OverDrive'', ''Ibanez TSB9'' and a Behringer-Copy of the Boss. I wouldn't mind buying one of these pedals but I don't really know if they do the same as the POD-Screamer since they're all bass pedals. Any experiences or suggestions (except buying and trying :D) ?
  2. Hi guys, does anyone use Firehawk as a bass multifx unit? I play guitar and bass and in the latter case I run a Tech 21 or a Bass Pod XT in the fx loop, but I always wonder why Line 6 doesn't add its fine Bass models to the Firehawk app (which from my point of view doesn't sound like a titanic venture), so it would be a more complete product. What do you think?
  3. Good day, I got the PodGo because I am new to effects, all the previews said it was pretty easy to use, and it was more economical then the pedal setup I was considering. It has been nice playing the bass over the laptop speakers to YouTube backing tracks. However, (day two of ownership) I would like to connect Pod Go to my amp combo but be able to switch between: My amp combo effects and eq with just effects from the PodGo (no amp and cab models) PodGo effects, amp, and cab models with my amp combo eq but no amp combo effects PodGo effects, amp, cab, and eq models with no effects from my amp combo I have a Peavey Max 100 amp combo that has a couple of on-off eq profile buttons, and connectors for active input, passive input, FX loop, DI, and footswitch. The Quick Start on page 7 of the 1.10 owners guide has a setup for powered speakers but it does not say which input to connect to. Should I be connecting to the active input or the return FX loop? How do I assign a foot-switch to toggle between no PodGo and no amp combo effects? My bass ( Ibanez GSR205SM ) has active pickups, a tone knob, and an eq knob that rolls over a low/mid/high boost/cut profile. Do I need to have these knobs turned all the way down using the PodGO to the amp combo? I don't want to overload anything by sending boost/effects from both the bass, PodGo, and amp combo. Is there a way to filter the amps and cabs for ones used for bass? There are a few factory bass presets in banks 12 and 13 so I know those ones are for bass. However, in PodGo Edit there is no indication of what is bass and what is guitar. I saw a review of other Line 6 products where this filtering was an option. Is this coming in a firmware and/or software update. Perhaps just putting the bass clef in one of the corners of the amp/cab icon would help. Thanks
  4. In today's video I go over my Clean and Bright bass tone that I pretty much start with when I'm writing or recording any music other than my metal productions. After a play through of a track I put together, I go over all of the settings inside of Helix. I am using the Ampeg SVT-4 PRO amp block. I am also using Ownhammer Impulses in this one from their Ampeg pack. https://www.ownhammer.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=190&products_id=354&zenid=3b5832f68c08a3b983ca8799c6b347f6 I hope this is helpful and you can use it as a jumping off point for your own productions. Be safe guys and I hope you're all doing well. Love Nick
  5. What's up guys? I'm looking for advice and to possibly start a discussion on different methods of using multiple instruments (specifically bass and keys) on the Helix in a Praise and Worship setting. I have and DeepMind 6 and BassStation II that I want to start incorporating into my workflow for sub-bass sounds, pads, and drones during specific parts of service. First thing that comes to mind is how little I use effects while playing bass. I usually play a GK PLEX and roll with it. So, transferring that same approach to the Helix, I have a lot of foot switches I could potentially use here - play programed chords, play a sub bass line to reinforce my stringed bass, change keys patches, use the volume pedal to fade from bass to keys, etc. I think my main obstacle right now is I don't know how to route 2 instruments in and out of the helix (or at least the proper way) nor do I know what this template would look like. How else are you guys setting up the Helix as the core of routing and processing multiple instruments? Cheers from Louisiana!
  6. I have a G10 to a Helix, running into a Powercab Plus with Line 6 Link without issue. I also have Helix running XLR stereo out to a Focusrite Scarlett 18/20. None of this has any issue. I added a Fender Rumbler 25 to practice Bass. Hooked it up with the 1/4" output. Now I hear this computer like hiss that rolls in and out. but just on that amp. I've unhooked EVERYTHING from the Helix and it's still there. Everything is hooked into the same power outlet for ground loop isolation. I've also tried another 1/4" cable and routed it a different way. G10 straight into in the Rumbler has no issues. Checked the 1/4" setting on the Helix and it's set to Instrument. I'm at a loss on what I can do to isolate it. Can I lift the ground wire on the 1/4" or do they make some sort of isolation device for 1/4" . This has to be between the Helix and Rumbler only. Please Help, Mike "
  7. Hi, wondered if anyone had any suggestions. So I'm using the HX effects for bass into a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes 500 amp. The amp has an intelligent footswitch for going between clean, vintage microtubes circuit, B3K circuit, and mute (4 buttons). When trying to use an effects loop on the HX effects through the loop send/return on the amp, it is bypassing the footswitch somehow, so I can't change between the onboard distortions or mute the amp. This doesn't happen with 2 cable method (no loop) and didn't happen using individual effects in the loop... any ideas?
  8. Hi everyone, I own an helix LT and I've tried out some bass tones out of line6 customTone. I dig the one for Djent/prog stuff, based on Nolly's sound, and also some Darkglass-lish stuff. In addition to those distorted sounds, I wish to craft a more clean/compressed sound in the vibe of Obscura (Cosmogenesis) or Necrophagist (Epitaph). I'm aiming to go back and forth between those sounds depending on the riff type. Any ideas ? Sylv
  9. Hey, i recently got my HX STOMP, I play bass (metal band) and the way i have it set it up in my preset is i split crossover the signal into a high freq and a low freq. I added a compressor into the low freq chain and thats it, and into the high freq i use distortion and a cab sim. My question is: Can i send a signal to my cab (without the cab sim) for stage fill and a signal with the cab sim on to the FOH (that would be my main sound) Thanks a lot!

I have just had a couple of hours playing with the Native demo. I must stress that If I was a guitarist I'd have a Helix in a heartbeat. But, I was completely underwhelmed with the general bass content. I've heard it said in many reviews that the Line 6 & the Helix family doesn't ignore bass players and their needs. But I sadly have to disagree. Having only 2 dedicated bass effects (EBS octaver and Darkglass distortion) just isn't enough. I couldn't find a useable filter, and hardly any of the other effects have a blend control which doesn't make them bass friendly. On to amps - the bass world has moved on in recent years and SVT, GK & Mesa heads are not the only choice for the modern player. I have the same issue with the cab choices - why so many 10" choices - 4x10, 6x10 or 8x10. Or some old 1x15 or 1x18 from the 70s. So many bassists today are using 1x12s and 2x12s. The equipment in the bass world has changed significantly compared to even 10 years ago. The sheer number of bass drive pedals out there is nuts. And lightweight yet powerful amps & cabs too. So many choices of modern different sounding rigs yet they're not here. Come on Line 6, it's time to catch up. I had put down a deposit on a HX Stomp but I am about to cancel that. I'll happily come back and try again if there's more bass content but until then I'll stick with my Zoom MS60B (still a cracking swiss army knife of effects) on my board. Line 6, you have done an outstanding job for the guitarist, that I can't argue with. Think of how many more units you could sell if the bass content was as varied as the guitar.
  11. HI! i have pod gx but i want to sell it because i now have hd400 and am able to record music with it instead. I have no problems with recording guitar, However i have a problem with trying to record bass. When recording guitar i'm using the sound that is on the processor itself. When i want to record bass i want to use tones that are stored in POD Farm instead. When i connect my hd400 to the computer and run pod farm, the sound comes from both of them - there is a dual sound - one is a guitar amp from hd400, another is the bass amp tone i need from pod farm. When i try to record, it only records the sound that comes from hd400 directly and not the sound i need from pod farm. Is it possible to somehow mute hd400 sound and listen and record the pod farm sound instead? thank you
  12. Hey guys. I was inspired by a fresh set of strings and came up with this bass tone in Helix Rack. Hope it can help someone!
  13. Hey lovely people, With 2.80 I've been trying to build a huge low-end driving, slightly rasping bass tone. Basically the audio equivalent of a cold punch in the chest. My reference is: Animals by... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLYwwtPA49w Sorry. I promise I make music more interesting that this, this tone is just amazing! About 6 hours on and the closest I've gotten (without buying a Spector bass) is by splitting the path: Channel 1 an SVT 4 Pro with about 3 EQs scooping mids, and Channel 2 a clean Fender Dimension blended with the Obsidian 7000. However, I'm compromising the volume consistency across my fretboard by scooping too much, and I still can't get the right balance of thunderous low end and high end clarity heard in the song. Has anyone got any ideas on amps, amp combinations, EQs, effects etc. etc.? Literally any thoughts on the EQ of the song, ideas or advice really appreciated! Have a good one.
  14. Hi, I'm nooby af to Helix. I'm looking for some killer deep, ballsy, low, earthshaking bass tones and ir's for neo-funk and house. Please help, I know less than Job Snow
  15. I want to create an isolated "low end" path for bass guitar and therefore need a way to set a high cut in the 200Hz region. Most blocks offering a high cut parameter are limited to 1kHz as lowest value. The Bitcrusher block allows to set the cut down to 500Hz... The lowest setting I found so far. I tried to mimic the cut with multiple parametric EQs in a row - sort of works, but perhaps someone found a more convenient way?
  16. Hello. I'm quite tempted to purchase a Helix to replace my trusty Bass Pod XT Live now that Line6 no longer provides working software for in on macOS Mojave ; but I'm weary of one thing: I'm using a Variax bass with the Bass POD, and they have dedicated presets, and communication mechanisms. However, in the Helix user manual, there are plenty of references to what one can do with the Variax Standard or James Tyler guitar, but exactly zero reference to the Variax basses. What exactly is the level of interaction I can expect ? e.g.: "nothing", "just power", "power and audio", "bass knobs work like EXP-n pedals like on Variax guitars", "preset change can change the emulated bass in the bass ? What else ?
  17. Q: How do I perform a Factory Reset ("reflash") on my Variax 300/500/600/700/705? A: See the following link for the reflash procedure: Variax Reflash and Software Update F.A.Q. Q: The strings on my Variax Steel string are breaking consistently at the saddle piece. How can this be resolved? A: There may be a "burr in the saddle", meaning that there is an edge cutting into the string and causing it to break. Depending on where the string is breaking you may need to replace the piezo, the saddle piece, or both pieces. Please contact an authorized Service Center for more information. Q: I am getting a high-pitched 'squeal' when I have both the ¼" TRS cable and the Variax cable plugged into my PODxt/X3 or Vetta. How do I eliminate this? A: The high-pitched squeal is indicative of an overload of the power input buffers, as the unit is receiving power from both the TRS and the Variax Digital Cable. You will need to unplug one of the cables to remove the high-pitch noise. Q: What happens if I leave my Variax plugged into an amp while using batteries (not using the power supply)? A: If you leave your Variax plugged into your amp and are not using the power supply you will drain your batteries. If you remember to turn the volume knob on your Variax all the way down, the guitar will go into a low power 'standby' mode, but the batteries will still be draining (although at a substantially slower rate). Remember to unplug your Variax if you have finished a soundcheck and are heading off to dinner somewhere before your gig. Q: I have a dead string on my 300/500/600/700 (electric or acoustic) guitar - where can I get a replacement piezo? A: Replacement Piezo pickup/bridge saddle pieces can be purchased directly from the Line 6 webstore: Variax Piezo Element Replacements Q: When I first plug it in the sound goes on and off like the power is being turned off and on and I hear a constant click...click...click...through the amp? A: The problem sounds like it's a battery issue. If the battery's power drops below a current point, even though the batteries may seem good, the guitar will cut in and out. Even if you connect the power A/B box the guitar will still cut in and out. When this occurs, you must disconnect or change the batteries. Q: Where can I get a replacement neck and/or body for my Variax guitar? A: You can order your Variax replacement neck or body from Warmoth Instruments. Q: Can the Model Select knob on the Variax 300/600 be calibrated? A: No, the Model Select knob on the Variax 300/600 cannot be calibrated. If the model knob is "out of sync", try reflashing your instrument. If you are still having problems with the model select knob not selecting the correct model, you will need to have the unit serviced at your local Line 6 service center. Q: How do I calibrate the Model Select knob on the Variax 500/700? A: Here are the instructions on how to calibrate the Model Select knob on the Variax 500/700: *Please make sure that the output from the Variax 500/700 is plugged into an amplifier or monitoring source to hear the audio beeps from the guitar. 1. Unplug RJ45 cable from guitar. 2. Turn off Power (disconnect ¼" TRS cable from guitar). 3. Turn the volume up. 4. Pull model selector knob "up" and away from the guitar body and set it to position Custom 1. 5. Set pickup selector to 4th (neck-middle) position. 6. Set tone knob to middle position. 7. Turn on power (connect "¼" TRS cable to guitar). ONCE INITIALIZED, YOU WILL HAVE APPROX. 13 SECONDS TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE: 8. Turn tone control to min and then max. 9. You will now hear a beep sequence come from the amp or monitor source the Variax is plugged into. (The beeps will NOT come from inside the guitar itself.) 10. Turn model selector from "Custom 1" through all positions up to "Custom 2" this should be timed to approximately 1 second per physical step. (Counting: "one, one thousand", making sure to turn the pot on the one). 11. You will hear a low-high-low beep when completed. 12. Model selector will now be calibrated. 13. Press the Model Select knob back in to the guitar body to the "down" position. If you hear the low-high-low beep prior to completing the entire rotation of the model select knob, unplug the "¼" TRS cable from guitar and start over again until the timing is correct. Q: How do I calibrate the strings on a Variax Bass 700/705? A: To Activate String Calibration Mode: 1.Press down and hold the VOLUME knob, then power up the bass as follows: a.plug in a TRS cable connected to a powered XPS power supply, or b.plug in a VDI cable which is connected to a powered Bass PODxt Live. 2.The LED on the bass will appear to be orange or red (not green - if the LED is green, try again). Release the VOLUME knob after confirming that the light turned on orange/red.*** *** Note: If the light does not light up orange/red, make sure that you are able to press down on the Volume knob like a button. If it does not feel like a button, or if the knob does not travel down enough because it is to close to the pickguard, you should try removing the knob and pressing down on the Volume stem. In String Calibration Mode, all modeling is bypassed and the level of each string can be adjusted individually. To confirm you're in String Calibration Mode, listen to several Models, including a Synth Model; they should all sound the same: direct piezo. Important Note: As per the instructions below, the BLEND knob is used to adjust the volume of each string. The BLEND knob has a center detent, and that detent equals the Factory level volume for each selected string. You should adjust string levels from the center detent as a reference. Boosting levels too much may result in distortion, which is not good. For best results, listen to all strings and determine which ones may be too loud or too soft, then adjust accordingly, leaving the other strings at their detent levels. To Calibrate Individual Strings: (steps 5a & 5b for 5-string only) *After successfully powering up in String Calibration Mode, monitor the Variax Bass in the usual way, with the Volume knob at max, plugged into a bass amp, PODxt Live, etc. 1a.Rotate MODEL SELECT knob to the 1st Model, VinJ, to select the 1st string (G). 1b.Turn BLEND knob up or down to balance the G string level with the other strings. 2a.Rotate MODEL SELECT knob to the 2nd Model, ModJ, to select the 2nd string (D). 2b.Turn BLEND knob up or down to balance the D string level with the other strings. 3a.Rotate MODEL SELECT knob to the 3rd Model, PreBass, to select the 3rd string (A). 3b.Turn BLEND knob up or down to balance the A string level with the other strings. 4a.Rotate MODEL SELECT knob to the 4th Model, Manta, to select the 4th string (E). 4b.Turn BLEND knob up or down to balance the E string level with the other strings. 5a.Rotate MODEL SELECT knob to the 5th Model, Clang, to select the 5th string ( B). 5b.Turn BLEND knob up or down to balance the B string level with the other strings. When all strings sound in balance, press down on the MODEL SELECT knob to exit String Calibration Mode. The LED will turn green and your level changes will be saved. * Rotate the MODEL SELECT knob to load a Model and return to normal operation
  18. Hi Guys Tonight's video is about bass guitar and how I use it to help shape my mixes and guitar tones. Think of it as a piece of a puzzle. I use a gnarly, heavy bass tone to compliment my guitars and it has a lot to do with how my mixes and over guitar tone work and sound. I try to explain my philosophy on bass guitar in heavy tracks and what should be occupying what sonic space. Drop some comments if you guys need more explanation or help with any other topic and like always, thanks for the support and positive feedback. 19. Hello, I have a couple of problems with a brand new hx stomp. 2.71 firmware with an active/passive bass. I have two problems : 1. Headphone output is generally too low, even with the volume at max. I'm using 32ohm phone, there is optimization for another impedance? 2. The bass sound is distorted even if I have an empty chain or analog bypass!! There is a lot of distortion in mid and low frequencies content even with passive or active basses (connected to the main L input). Can you help me? Best regards, Bye
  20. Hey Guys! I had several requests to break down the Bass Tone used in my recent Line 6 Helix Tone video, "Rectifire Rock." So here it is. I used the Line 6 SV Beast Brt amp model which is modeled after an Ampeg SVT Bright Channel. I used Ownhammer Impulses, specifically OH 410 AMPG SVT-10 PORT which is obviously an Ampeg SVT 4 x 10. Through a little FabFilter Pro Q and a bit of Waves L1 and we have a bass tone.
  21. I love the simplicity and tone of the Bass PODxt Live, thus I'm still carting it to every bass gig I play at. However, I also have the M9 and happened to plug the bass into it with the Sub Octave Fuzz...it was a life changing moment. All the fuzzes and distortions on the Bass PODxt sound thin because you can't run an effects chain and a clean bass chain simultaneously to maintain the low end lost in the distortion effects. But sweet baby of chaos...that Sub Octave Fuzz is more doom than Conan the Barbarian after a two week bender. Now, to keep with simplicity, is there a way I can upload the Sub Octave Fuzz model into the Bass PODxt Live? Is there an update? A hack, I dare say? I don't want to mess up the signal chain trying to squeeze the M9 before the PODxt Live. Much obliged for your help, RS
  22. Good day! Just thought I'd share my experience... First, bass amp models sound much better after tweaking. Anything to "tighten up" the sound, like the sag and mic distance. Second, two paths sound better than one; flattens up your tone. Third, dialing in a tone as close to live volume through my home pa gets me closest to what it will sound like live through the fronts, but headphones get you close. Usually I am asked to turn down the lows a bit, if anything. I went live for a show with a loud drummer (godsmack tribute) and ONLY a Peavey DM115 (no back line). I managed, but it didn't cut it. Not loud enough, and no subtleties came through. Guitar players seem to have no trouble with the same set up, but most sound guys don't seem to fully understand modelers, and that we are trying to avoid being at their mercy for monitor volume. This is less of an issue in larger clubs with larger PAs and good sound guys. Best sound I get now is backlining with my mark bass tube 800 through a single 4x10. I use the helix in front of it, replacing my tried and true, and hard to beat, ME 50B, for volume, tuner, compressor, effects. Honestly, I haven't figured out how to make it sound as crisp and clean as the me-50b, but it's close. Now here's the thing, I run a completely different rig to the front of house. Usually the Hartke with the 8x10. Lots of compliments, and I can hear over the rest of band. I have not yet found a monitor that is loud enough for me to go without the back line. I'm about to get a QSC power amp and Yamaha 12 inch monitors. I'm hoping that's going to work out. As much as I would like to walk in with just a combo amp, my situation requires serious volume, and I can't only bring one amp and hope it doesn't blow. Lastly, my mark rig with the ME 50B, is very portable, and sounds better than most rigs to my ear. I bring an extra head with me just in case and I actually run two 4 by 10s. But I don't get all the bells and whistles I get with the helix. That's where I'm at! I didn't see anyone else posting about playing bass through the helix to the extent that I'm trying to. Comments and suggestions are welcome!
  23. So, I've been working on putting together some bass tones for a big recording project. I've got a distorted tone I really like (a kind of TesseracT/Periphery distorted upper mids sort of thing), but I can't seem to nail the kind of clean tone I'm going for. I want something very crisp/glassy sounding, basically something like this with reverb optional. Everything I've tried has sounded really thin and lifeless or kind of "honky." Anyone got any pointers?
  24. Has anyone managed to replicate Amos's (TesseracT) bass tone in the Helix? If so, how is it done?
  25. Hi Everyone..been awhile since I posted ...here is SuMo (supermassivemomentum) newest live session. Recorded live over the internet from remote locations, Mastered at 96k. Experimental progressive improvisation, lots of guitar and bass craziness..heavy, grooving.. I use HELIX (2.54) and Variax.....powerful ! have a listen! Comments welcome https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/sumo-2018-5-11/
