  1. Hi! This is my first post in the forums and I'm a somewhat new HX Stomp user. I have used the M9 in a similar setup but upgraded to the stomp for added versatility of running direct in live and studio situations. For me, the Stomp is mostly taking care of time-based and modulation effects. My typical setup is tuner > compressor > overdrive > boost > hx stomp. From there, I either run the stomp direct to the PA (being careful to change the output to line level) or into the front of my Deluxe Reverb (with instrument level output impedance). So far, everything sounds great except when I engage my Katana Boost. I typically run boosts after overdrives to give me more volume for leads. When not using the stomp, engaging a boost after an overdrive gives me more volume for solos. When running into the input of the stomp, however, I have found that engaging a boost actually results in more compression and less volume. For context, I do not use any of the HX stomp overdrive models and my input impedance is set for instrument level. I've tried three different overdrive pedals (Nobels ODR-1, Tube Screamer, and Wampler Euphoria) and the boosts I've tried after the drives (all with the same results) are the Keeley Katana, Fulltone 2B boost, and Xotic EP Booster. With each of these, no matter how high I turn the volume (without any extra gain stages after the boost), the resulting sound to the amp or the board is more compressed and lower in volume. I removed my compressor and tuner from the signal chain and tested my patch cables to try to isolate the issue to just my overdrives, boosts, and stomp. No matter the combination of boost after overdrive, the result is the same. To ensure it's not an issue with my amp, I further isolated my boost / overdrive pedals and bypassed the stomp entirely. When I engage the boost after the overdrive directly into the amp, the sound is what I would expect - still overdriven but with more volume. Once the stomp enters the signal chain and I engage the boost pedal after the overdrive, the volume drops. It's as if the stomp is unable to accommodate the additional output from the boost and the overdrive. I would expect this to happen if I were running a boost into an overdrive but it seems odd when running a boost after an overdrive. I should also note that I have tried this same setup with in both analog and DSP bypass. I have also changed the global EQ to have a few dB extra output at the end of the stomp's six blocks with the same results. This also occurs whether or not any of my other blocks on the stomp are engaged. As I said, I am new to the forum. And if there is already a topic on this, please point me in that direction. Any theories / help would be appreciated. Andrew
  2. is there a firmware update coming, so you can switch the boost by the effect footswitch!!!!!!!!

  4. Hey all. This is going to sound dumb but I would love to get some (constructive) thoughts on this... I use my POD HD500X as a pedalboard for its great reverbs, delays, overdrive, modulation, etc. through my VHT Special 6 Ultra combo for guitar and pedal steel guitar. My pedal steel does not have an onboard tone or volume control, which is pretty common for those. Many players use a compact preamp mounted to their steel guitar so they can make tweaks to volume and tone on the fly. I don't intend to use amp emulation most of the time but I may do it on occasion to go direct to the board at church or a gig. Question: what is your best method to use the HD500X as a pre-amp? Subquestion: can I use the hardware knobs to modify treble/mid/bass/presence/volume (sound) without emulating an amp or cabinet? Subqueston: can this be done without using a pedal chain slot? Currently I am using the HD500X with Studio/Direct output mode and input Z set to 3.5m or 1m to neutralize any color to the signal (many, many thanks to @hurghanico for their invaluable advice!) . But I'd like to be able to shape the tone and maybe add a little boost, ideally without using one of the available blocks in the pedal chain. May you have a very Merry Christmas, strong health and the unmistakeable peace of the presence of the Lord this season!
  5. Hey guys, how do you setup 2 amps? At the moment I only use 2 amps (Placater and Matchless) on the first DSP signal chain. If I put the second amp with the cab on the second DSP chain I always hear the dry signal of the guitar coming through too. So if I only use the placater for example and bypass the matchless I always hear the dry of the guitar mixed in the marshall sound. Any ideas what I m doing wrong. Each amp would have it's own IR on both signal chains. Second problem I have is when I use a wah and a volume boost at the end of the chain for leads. When activating the wah it always activates the volume boost as well. How do you setup a lead volume boost? I'm still using the 2.80 software. Thanks
  6. Hey what’s up! I’m brand new to the Helix family and purchased myself a Helix LT. As we all know, in a real amp situation, putting an OD in the Loop gives you a volume boost. I’m trying to create the same type of volume boost using only the Helix LT. How can I achieve this? I have no idea how to make an FX Loop given the signal chain within the Helix LT and/or how to get any type of volume boost without altering the tone I’ve already created. Any help with this will be GREATLY appreciated. I’m running my LT straight into the board, so no amps of any kind are being used. Strictly the Helix LT and it’s on board tones. Thank you!
  7. I've been trying to find specs on the Helix's FX loops where it states how many decibels of boost they can handle. I like to use one of my Wyldes Overdrives in front of an amp with the volume cranked. This is fine in front of a tube amp, but I don't know about the Helix. I know with my TC Electronic G-System, I couldn't, because it could possibly damage the unit.
  8. Basically i play rythm part of song. From time to time i need to play a kind of riff or solo. In this case i need to boost my sound. What is the best to acheive this for clean sound and for satured one.
  9. I am having trouble cutting through the mix during my solos. I play in a 4 piece (drums, bass and 2 guitars) playing indie rock. I generally cut through just fine and in fact get regular comments from musos in the crowd complementing my tone. The problem comes in when I hit the 'solo button'. The result is either ear bleedingly loud or non existent. My rig is JTV 59 into an HD500 into an L3m. The nearest I have got to the boost I'm looking for is kicking in a screamer at the beginning of the chain to add a bit of grit, a studio eq after the mixer block with a 2db boost and a digital delay before the reverb. All these are turned on and off with one of the footswitches. What do you guys do to melt your audiences faces but keep their eardrums intact?
  10. Hi! can someone please tell me step by step how I can get "one click" instant boost for my solos? I know that I could create a louder patch but that still doest allow me to change fast enough. Is there an "effect" that I could put in line to rasie to volumr for my solo to cut thru? Pardon my learing :)
  11. I've recently been trying to dial in a solid high gain "tremonti" tone but can't quite reach it. What Im experimenting with now is Metal red with medium gain + a stomp effect to boost. I'd like to stick with the screamer because a green screamer boosting a metal amp at medium gain is a combination I'm very familiar with BUT it's just not boosting the gain enough without needing to turn up the screamers drive, which kind of defeats the purpose. If I crank the amps gain, I get the fizz. If I drop the highs, I get mud. Not only that but it's way to middy. I like mids, but this stomp effect seems to be all mids or none. Does anyone have any advice or experience in this type of tone setup?
  12. Is there a way to use a boost through L6 link (but not through the pod fx loop)? I have Pod HD500 and DT25 working with L6 link but I'm also using HD500 with standard amps half the time. I have also Xotic EP booster which I really like for the solo boost - after HD500 before the amp and it works great. So if I use L6 link to DT25 I lose the ability to use it before the amplifier as usual and that is where I find it sounds the best. Maybe there is some kind of connector or interface that I could buy or make that would allow me to do that and use EP booster in both configurations? Did someone find a way around this? Thank you!
