  1. After waiting a VERY long time we finally have an update to Pod Go, which is extremely welcome! However, the one key feature I was really hoping for (and with all the hints around a re-written cab engine, we had good reason for hope) is still missing - no stereo cab block! This means that the Pod Go can't be used for stereo effects into the PA if you still want to hear those effects on-stage - the pre-cab tap point for on-stage monitor would be really useful, but all stereo capable effects have to be placed AFTER the cab block, so you can't hear them on stage!! - this is a huge limitation of the Pod Go and should have been fixed in 2.0, with the re-written cab engine - is there any hope at all that this feature will come soon in an update?
  2. Curious to know how other people use MIDI for volume control on their Helix and what block and parameter you're sending CC values to. I know answers will differ based on the how you're using your volume pedal in the chain. Right now I have my HX stomp set up to take CC messages on the Level parameter in the final Output block but I'm thinking of moving the volume control to earlier in the chain and controlling the Level parameter in my Cab block so it comes before all synth and time based effects. How are other people doing this?
  3. Is there a way to globally disable all Cab Blocks and Impulse Response Blocks to use a Helix Floor with real speaker cab? Sorry if I missed it but I've read the manual and searched the forum.
  4. Hi everyone, here's a question that get asked probably a lot. Sorry. Basically i've been using the pod go with headphone in my bedroom for the longest time. That's all I have (I have guitars aswell eh ) I'm trying to join a band but the place where they rehearse is pretty much an empty room (I've been told there's only a mixing table) I know nothing about equipements, but I suppose a mixing table implies that there are speakers in the room with it ? Anyway I'm in desperate need to buy equipement fast to be able to play with them. I think that in the future I want to stay with the whole amp modeling technology and probably do not wish to get myself a full amp stack. So what could I buy to be able to play with a band ? I've read of FRFR speaker like the headrush, but from what I've seen it's mixed review: some people swear by it, and for some it's only good to be able to hear yourself ( like to point it towards you). I've also seen the line 6 powercab, but it's a bit expensive.. I've never done any gig, i've never done any research into amp/cab and all that part of guitar playing, as i'm in appartement. I'm very much a noob into it, but I need to buy something fast. All I know is the marshall stack I see on stage lol. Any recommendation ? a speaker that can make myself heard with a band in a room. I play with a distortion and gain, and usually metal if that helps. I'd like to go no more than 600euros ( 700 dollars) if possible. Cheers!!
  5. Hi, I'm a brand new HX Stomp owner as of today and am learning my way. I haven't played in a long time (5yr) and all the new tech is pretty incredible but my ears are also pretty stale. One thing I was wondering about is one of my favorite old cabs to play through was an open back 2x12 with Eminence Legend speakers. It wasn't even a "real" cab, but just some plywood in a compact box on rollers that looked maybe homemade with some fuzz covering the outside. Anyway, the cab had a chimey character about it that I liked and I was wondering if some folks might point me toward some of the Helix cabinets (I assume they're IRs?) that might be expected to most closely mimic that kind of sound if you're familiar? (If it matters, probably my favorite head to play through it at home was a small Blackstar). I also used to have a 4x10 Marshall cab - closed back - that I really liked but I note the Stomp doesn't seem to have 4x10 guitar cabs except the fender tweed. I think the speakers in the Marshall cab were maybe called Celestion Golds if that makes sense. If you're familiar, I also appreciate any suggestions for what available HX Stomp cabs might sound most similar to that 4x10 or celestion gold speakers? Appreciate any thoughts on cab matches for Eminence Legend 2x12 open backs (or just Eminence Legends), and the 4x10 closed back Marshall w/ Celestion Golds (I think?) Thanks in advance - appreciated.
  6. I was just thinking, a great feature to have in the cab section would be a head or human instead of a mic. Let me explain; in the cab block; you mainly select a cab, a mic and a distance. But why not also have the ability to select a person? Meaning; say you had a 4x12 in a room, and you were 8 meters away from the cab; how would it sound if you were in the room? (aka; if it was recorded with a perfect mic?) I think that actually this should have been the default setting for all cabs. How would the amp sound if you were in the room? When you have to select a mic, you're basically removing cab simulation from unit; and you're basically saying, this is how it would sound if it was recorded. I mean it's fine/great to have as a feature, getting the recorded mic+cab tone from albums is great. But, the Go lacks the most basic ability to emulate a guitar cab. It cannot emulate the sound of a cab; of how a plain cab would sound to a human in a room. It can only emulate the sound of a cab if it were recorded with a microphone... And that is to me quite an artificial way to treat cabs. The most basic way to use an amp and a cab is playing them directly, and hearing the sound. The Go lacks this most basic feature. This would simplify tremendously the cab block, and I think might help get some great tones also... Of course room becomes a parameter; are you playing in a garage, bedroom, church, etc., (reverb characteristics) but many reverbs aren't super expensive DSP wise, and if my my old 1994 Digitech RP5 could do such reverbs; don't think the PGO couldn't... Thoughts? Any idea why there isn't such implementation?
  7. I'm using an HX Stomp and have just ordered a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 to use with my 2x12 cab. I'd like to send a signal to FOH as well, but I'm not sure if this can be done - is anyone able to advise please? I was thinking of using the Send to take the signal to the Powerstage 170 and my cab, and then using the L/Mono to go direct to front of house. BUT... When I look at it in HX Edit, it seems like if I do this, I'll only be able to have the delay/reverb on one side (either FOH or the cab - but not both). Have I got this totally wrong, or is this just a compromise I'll have to live with?
  8. Good day, I got the PodGo because I am new to effects, all the previews said it was pretty easy to use, and it was more economical then the pedal setup I was considering. It has been nice playing the bass over the laptop speakers to YouTube backing tracks. However, (day two of ownership) I would like to connect Pod Go to my amp combo but be able to switch between: My amp combo effects and eq with just effects from the PodGo (no amp and cab models) PodGo effects, amp, and cab models with my amp combo eq but no amp combo effects PodGo effects, amp, cab, and eq models with no effects from my amp combo I have a Peavey Max 100 amp combo that has a couple of on-off eq profile buttons, and connectors for active input, passive input, FX loop, DI, and footswitch. The Quick Start on page 7 of the 1.10 owners guide has a setup for powered speakers but it does not say which input to connect to. Should I be connecting to the active input or the return FX loop? How do I assign a foot-switch to toggle between no PodGo and no amp combo effects? My bass ( Ibanez GSR205SM ) has active pickups, a tone knob, and an eq knob that rolls over a low/mid/high boost/cut profile. Do I need to have these knobs turned all the way down using the PodGO to the amp combo? I don't want to overload anything by sending boost/effects from both the bass, PodGo, and amp combo. Is there a way to filter the amps and cabs for ones used for bass? There are a few factory bass presets in banks 12 and 13 so I know those ones are for bass. However, in PodGo Edit there is no indication of what is bass and what is guitar. I saw a review of other Line 6 products where this filtering was an option. Is this coming in a firmware and/or software update. Perhaps just putting the bass clef in one of the corners of the amp/cab icon would help. Thanks
  9. I’m looking for some advice for my set-up. I’m playing mostly at home now, with an occasional jam out with friends. I purchased a Helix LT a few weeks ago and love it; past the honeymoon phase. Currently, my set-up is going through the effects loop of my Mesa Mark V:25, so using the power amp only, into a 2x12 closed back cab with V30s. It sounds great! However, the Mesa is a pretty expensive as just power amp... So I’m looking at two options. 1) Helix straight into a JBL PRX812 (or other brand/model suggestions?) and sell the Mesa and cab. Or 2) Helix into a separate power amp (brand/model suggestions?) into my current 2x12 cab. There’s really no way to test either of these optional methods without major time and expense, so I’m hoping someone here may have experience comparing these set ups and be able to offer some sage advice. Thanks in advance for your input!
  10. So I’m in a dilemma that I’m hoping someone can help me out with. I play in 2 metal bands that practice at separate rehearsal studios and I am looking for a second rig for the other studio so I was looking into getting the hx stomp or the helix lt but can’t decide which one would be a better fit. Since I play metal I don’t use a ton of effects but maybe if I had more options I would use them more. I mostly just use a high gain profile on my kemper, a clean profile and a lo-fi profile but to be honest the kemper Is not known for its effects so I was thinking the hx stomp might be cool to use as a second rig at the other studio and since it’s so portable I could use it with the kemper as well. The only issue is that since I use real cabinets I use power amps because my kemper is not powered and neither is the hx stomp but the hx stomp doesn’t have an xlr output to plug into my power amp however the helix lt does. Is there anyway hook the hx stomp up to my power amp without using an xlr? Would a 1/4 jack to xlr work? what I’m really getting down to is which one would you guys suggest for my situation the helix lt or the hx stomp? Would the hx stomp be a good stand alone rig if I can run it through a power amp or would it just be better to get the helix lt? Sorry for the long post. I wanted to try and be as specific as possible. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!
  11. Hi All, I have a 412VS that I use with my Vetta II head, but i recently purchased an Orange Jim Root Terror which sounds awesome through it. My only problem is, it only has one channel. So my question is: Is it possible to run my Vetta II through two of the speakers for clean tone and my Orange Jim Root Terror through the other two for the dirty tone? I know the cab is stereo so I'm assuming that means top two speakers are separate from the bottom two... If so, any ideas how? Thanks for your help!
  12. Hello, I was wonderwing if with the HX Stomp i can get 1 signal chain with effects/amp modeling/IR impulse to go to the FOH, and a second signal with just effects/amp modeling to my power amp and cab (so without IR impulse). Thanks in advance!! Greetz Wouter
  13. Hello! I've had an HX Stomp for about two months and have lurking on this forum long before then to learn everything I can about how to get the best out of this thing. Since I'm a bedroom guitarist and live in an apartment I can't crank the volume very loud. Currently I'm using the Stomp into an EV ZLX-12P (I know it's not the best) and whilst it sounds good, it's not exactly what I'm going for. I understand I won't get the "amp in the room" feel as much as I'll get the "amp in another room mic'ed and playing through a monitor" feel, so the majority of my time I'm tweaking to make it perfect (mostly a me problem lol). Occasionally I'll record with Logic, but primarily I'm just jamming to songs by myself or with my friend. I understand I'll lose the ability for IRs/cabs this route, but in every one of my patches I use an IR from ML Soundlabs of a Mesa recto 4x12 with an SM57. I play mostly Coheed and Cambria stuff with various other metal/rock mixed in, so that IR/cab is the sound I want. All that being said, here are my questions. - Will it feel like the amp being modeled run into whatever cab I'm using? - For my purposes, would a power amp into a cab give the best feel? - What would a be a good power amp? Something neutral? (I've heard people using various Quilters, SD powerstage, Mooer Baby Bomb, EHX 44 Magnum, etc) I have a Fender HM412A I got cheap and used when I lived at my parents I could use, but I feel like that's gonna be super loud and I'm not sure how it'll sound. My other thought was selling the 4x12 and some other equipment I'm not using to pickup a Mesa Recto 1x12 because I figure that would get me close to the sound I'm aiming for. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!
  14. Hi, I'm Danilo from Italy. A question about miking option in cab block. Is anyone aware of how Helix simulated cab miking? It is possible to adjust only the distance by speaker but not position with respect to the center and inclination.

    Powercab FAQ

LINE 6 POWERCAB 112 / POWERCAB 112 PLUS So are these the Helix FRFR speakers we’ve been requesting for, like, years? Nope—Powercab is waaay beyond your bog standard FRFR speaker. When paired with any modeler, it’s an active speaker system that can deliver a much more authentic “amp-in-the-room” playing experience. However, when set to Flat mode (and whether you load IRs into Powercab or your modeler), Powercab amplifies the sound of your presets as they are, similar to a traditional FRFR speaker system—but with the response and feel closer to that of an actual guitar amp. Powercab works as both a backline amp and a wedge speaker, thanks to its integrated kickstands. Oh, and it looks like a guitar amp instead of a PA speaker. So that’s cool. What’s going on under the hood? Powercab doesn’t utilize cab modeling; it has true speaker modeling. Speaker Modeling is Line 6’s proprietary method of duplicating the frequency and behavior of speaker drivers by themselves, independently of the cabinets in which they happen to be loaded. Imagine having an empty 1x12 speaker cabinet where you can swap out the Greenback for a Creamback or a Swamp Thang or an Alnico Blue—instantly—and you’re close. I don’t own Helix. Will Powercab work with my Kemper, Atomic, or Fractal box? Absolutely! And any other modeler as well, including POD HD500X. In fact, if your modeler has a 48kHz AES/EBU out (or S/PDIF out with RCA-to-XLR M adapter), with Powercab 112 Plus you can run everything digitally, with no additional D/A/D conversion or latency. And if your modeler sends MIDI messages, you can even sync Powercab 112 Plus’s presets and user IRs with your modeler or profiler’s presets. Which six speakers are the models based on? Celestion® Vintage 30 Celestion® Greenback 25 Celestion® G12M-65 Jensen® P12Q Eminence® Swamp Thang Patriot Series Celestion® “Blue Bell” Alnico What’s the difference between Powercab 112 and Powercab 112 Plus? Powercab 112 Plus adds the following: 2-inch, 128 x 32-pixel LCD display 128 user preset locations 128 user IR locations MIDI In and Out for recalling presets, IRs, and most parameters (can also be recalled via USB) AES/EBU | L6 LINKTM digital In and Out Additional input for use as an FOH monitor (post-DSP) Powercab Edit connectivity USB audio interface for jamming along with or monitoring backing tracks from your Mac/PC/iOS* device User-selectable mic modeling and distance on the XLR output (Powercab 112’s output uses an SM58 model only) Powercab 112 Plus is about 2 lb (1 kg) heavier *iOS interfacing requires the Apple Camera Connection Kit How loud do they get? 250 watts total. That's 200 watts to the woofer and 50 watts to the compression driver. Wait. 250 watts doesn’t sound like much. Aren’t there other speakers that are thousands of watts? 250 real watts, not marketing watts. The operative spec here is SPL (Sound Pressure Level). Powercab reaches 125dB SPL handily. You should have no problems playing next to the drummer. What’s the reference speaker used? Powercab features a custom designed 8Ω, 12" coaxial speaker that uses a guitar-style cone as opposed to a PA-style cone with a 2” high-temperature voice coil loosely based on the Eminence Beta 12CX format. The 1” compression driver is a Celestion CDX 1-1010, which is used only for Flat mode, monitor feeds, and user IR modes; it’s not utilized at all for speaker models. How do I load IRs into Powercab 112 Plus? From the free Powercab Edit software (Mac/PC) via USB. So I can edit presets via Mac or PC? Yes. Powercab Edit (Mac/PC, available this May from http://line6.com/software/) is used to manage, reorder, backup, import, and export your Powercab 112 Plus presets and IR files (2048-point, 48 kHz .WAV). This allows you to easily create an unlimited collection of presets and IRs stored on your computer, and transfer them as needed to Powercab 112 Plus. Can I get a cover for Powercab? Yes, Powercab covers will be available from select retailers and the Line 6 Store; expected US street price is $69.99. Dimensions/weight? Am I gonna break my back? Powercab 112—22.3”w x 18.2”h x 12”d (33.25 lbs), Powercab 112 Plus—22.3”w x 18.2”h x 12”d (35.5 lbs) What’s the price? Powercab 112—$599.99 US street, Powercab 112 Plus—$799.99 US street When are they shipping? May 2018.
  16. Hello good people! I was considering getting the hd500x because it fits perfectly on my budget, but i couldn't find anywhere an answer to this question: Can you connect your pod to foh (with cab emulation) and to a poweramp and cab (without cab emulation) simultaneously? if not, that would be a deal breaker :/ I've downloaded the edit software and discovered that using a dual amp setup i could turn off the simulation on one, so theoretically if i pan them hard to the sides i could do what i want? Thanks in advance!
  17. I just had the painful epiphany of why my sound has been torturing me for many years. I have the HD400 and have never been completely satisfied with my dirty tones, but have been ok w/my clean tones. I am playing through a Zilla 2x12 closed cabinet. I finally realized I have all the cabs in my patches turned on and thought that was ok. Now I'm realizing that I probably shouldn't have had thoseturned on. Queue the Homer D'oh!!! I have a Helix LT on the way. I am assuming the advice would be that I don't turn on the cabinet modeling feature when dialing in my tones. Appreciate the help. I won't be recording with this - it will strictly be a working gig tool.
  18. Hi Everyone, Creating this topic to check if someone has tried the SD's powerstage (power amp > cab) on a live situation. The reason why I ask is for me to decide whether to go for an axe fx or keep using the pod. I mainly use the pod for live use and I guess, won't be using it for any recording stuff. Most forum suggests the axe-fx but I'm having second thoughts as I may just be wasting money as most of the people in the forum are using it for recording. I'm doing live shows and I mostly use Mesa or Fender as my amps for dirt and cleans (sometimes tweed or ac30). Hope someone can chime in their experiences. I'm not here to bash anything, just wanted to get an honest opinion on the pro's and con's as far as my usage is concerned. Thanks in advance.
  19. Howdy all, _Apologies moderators if this is in the wrong forum.. figured it might get a few more hits if it’s in the main forum_.. Having been part of the Fractal Forum (however no longer because I’m a loud and proud HELIX user J), and Kemper Forum, and now the Line 6 Helix forum, I’ve noticed that in particular here in the Helix forum, there’s a huge amount of FRFR discussions, but there’s minimal discussions about players that don’t necessarily use FRFR. This could quite easily be because the bigger majority of players in this Line 6 forum ARE mainly FRFR users/players. This isn’t an anti-FRFR topic or discussion, it’s more about expanding on this forum and perhaps growing the capabilities of the Helix and sharing wins/strategies/tones etc etc. On the Fractal and Kemper forums, there are many discussions about FRFR, but there’s also a lot of discussions and banter about power amps + cabs + Kemper or Axe FX, _not just FRFR_. Is it worth having a forum or chat room for the players that mainly use their Helix rig in a non-FRFR situation? It’s all well and good to download and trade patches with one another that are FRFR; however from what I can ascertain on this forum, at least 90% of all things discussed is FRFR based, with not a lot of input on power amp + cab + Helix and so forth. Again, having owned and played all 3 modellers, I personally keep resorting back to a valve power amp + cab + Helix because that not only works for me, but the band that I play in as well. FRFR is the perfect bedroom solution (which a majority of us forum’ites are, presumably), however, I just think it’d be good to have a place to chat, trade ideas etc that are not always FRFR based.. Food for thought I guess..
  20. I currently have no experience with setting up fx processors for live/rehearsal use through a guitar cabinet, but I am thinking about obtaining a Helix (maybe Axe Fx if I'm patient enough) to add a digital rack setup on top of my current tube amp/cab/pedals setup. Just to have the best of both worlds. I want to stick to a solid state power amp, but do I go Rocktron Velocity 300 or Matrix GT800FX/GT1000FX? I obviously want to maximize my sound in terms of quality, but also in terms of volume without blowing my speakers or being too quiet. I'm not sure how wattage in a sold state amp affects this, and I'd like to go Matrix, but only if they don't destroy these cabs with one small or bad turn of a knob because of their high output capabilities -- 400w/channel or 800w bridged for example -- into a 280w Mesa 4x12 (live/rehearsal) or 120w Orange 2x12 (home). But I can't afford to have the 300w Rocktron be too quiet for a live or rehearsal situation even if it does suffice for at-home use. Bottom line: Which power amp should I get and how would I avoid damage? I see people using the Matrix's all the time with cab setups but how do they not blow their cabs? Just keep the Matrix turned down low all the time? Is it an impedance thing? Side note: The Orange also only has a 16 ohm option so without rewiring how would that work, if it can at all since I believe these amps do 8 ohms? I know there's other options for speaker setups but I'm asking specifically about guitar cabinets... for now. I play heavy music. Much appreciated.

    Helix Cab vs IR

I had a request on the FB group to do a comparison of IR vs Helix cabs. I'm not here to try and say one is better than the other or suggest what anyone should use, as there are people here on this forum that enjoy both. I just wanted to do a quick A/B. Definitely not trying to knock IR's. For this test I used a Vox Fawn normal channel and compared the stock 2x12 Silver Bell vs a Redwirez 2x12 silver, both with 121 mic 1" off the grill. To my ears they were pretty close. I know that comparing one Helix cab to one IR is VERY far from an exhaustive comparison, which wasn't my intent. My conclusion with THIS test is that the cabs were very similar. Which is to say IR's aren't always superior so whichever one makes you the happiest, go for it. Just trust your ears :)

  23. Hi all, can i plug my FX100 directly into a cab? right now i've got it plug on into the preamp of my Peavey Bandit 65 and it sounds great, but the Peavey is getting old. Could i just buy a Cabinet and plug the Fx100 straight into it? Guitar > FX100 > Cabinet Thank You
