  1. I’m an acoustic guitar player just picking guitar up again after around 10 years or so. Decided to get an electric (Squire Classic Vibes 70’s Thinline Tele and an amp (Catalyst 60) as well. Played the guitar through my dad’s modeling amp (Fender) and had no problems. Got my Cat today and turned it on to tried the Clean voicing (the whole reason I got the amp was for clean playing, and I thought it had gotten broke in shipping. Pretty much had to crank channel and master volume on the amp and volume on guitar to even hear it. Tried with headphone and again, it was like the volume was at 10-20 percent. you change to the other voicing and they just about blow you away. I know nothing about amplifiers, am I missing something? I got the foot pedal to be able to switch channels, but with voice volume being so wildly different there is no way I could switch it without blowing the roof off the house. I will play with it more tonight, but feel like something is wrong. you can add some boost, but then it just makes it sound overdriven and is not the sound I am after. Any insight anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Hola, soy Fran de Argentina, he comprado mi helix lt hace un tiempo y queria ayuda para lograr conseguir el sonido del siguiente video, sugerencias de amps, delay, etc... Muchas Gracias!!! https://youtu.be/UCxMW4nqhKU
  3. I want to record the cleanest possible tone into GarageBand. This is where I will apply amp effects. I find the Line6 app to be confusing, so haven't yet figured out how to get a clean tone. I can't be the only person wanting to do this. I figured there would be an FAQ but couldnt' find one. Any advice?
  4. FBV Express MKII cannot be used to switch AMP MODELS(CLEAN/CRUNCH/METAL/INSANE) on Spider Classic 15. Please advise what kind of settings should be made in FBV Control Application.
  5. I've been pretty st0ked on this amp I purchased for my small practice studio. But occasionally, even with all the great sounds Line 6 Spider V technology has, I am trying to get just a "clean" signal to the driver. I have a set of the standard outboards pedals for sculpting my sound. But none of the 128 presets or any tweaks I have done to them have given me a sound that wasn't "time-smeared" and colored in a negative way. The real tell-tale is when I am using my RC-2 or RC-10r BOSS looper pedals' drum sounds. The snare and especially the cymbals are all resonating in a weird, mushy way that extends the attacks over a couple dozen ms, taking the definition away. It's not just EQ, which I can adjust for "flat" tone. They sound like crap anyway, and it takes some of the enjoyment away from practicing. This is with all the effects off (no chorus/mod, delay, reverb) in the amp, no distortion or overdrive, and using one of the "clean" amp models, with the preamp gain lowered as much as I can and still get output. If I compare it to my other practice amps - a Roland 30x and an old Fender - the clean channel sound is crisp and tight and the BOSS drum sounds (which are EQ'ed to sound fairly flat out of a guitar amp) work very well. Anybody got a clue or a hot tip how to just bypass all the DSP and feed the power stage in the Line 6 Spider V directly? Am I thinking about this in the right way? Thanks for any help, sincerely!! -JD in San Francisco
  6. Today we finally have the tone explanation for my Line 6 Helix Ambient Clean Tone. This tone uses the Line 6 Jazz Rivet 120 which is modeled after the Roland Jazz Chorus 120. Per usual, I am using Ownhammer Impulse Responses, specifically the OH 412 ZLNG V30 D57M+RFAT which is a blended IR of the Zilla 412 and is part of the Massively Multi-Mic set of the Zilla 412. Thanks again for everyone's support. I truly appreciate it.

    Fender Clean?

I've always really liked the sound of my 8-string through a clean fender amp (usually a Fender Deluxe) with the pickups set to single coil, but I can't quite seem to recreate that sound in the Helix. It's got a certain tightness and "slap" that just doesn't come through when I try messing with the fender amps in the Helix. I even tried using my own Fender Twin cab IRs. I need something crisp and spanky but still clean, can anyone tell me what to do?
  8. There are a number of products available to clean pots and faders. One is 99% Isopropyl. DeOxit D5 or one of the other Cramolin brand pot cleaners works well. Also, Tri Chem makes/made a plastic safe contact cleaner for pots and there's Blue Shower by Techspray, L.P. Pull the plastic knobs up first. Spray onto a cotton swab and let it drip down the shaft. Work the pot to work in the cleaner. Canned air is good for blowing dust off and getting the cleaner to dry quickly. Do not use WD40, that will just gunk up over time.
  9. Hi. First of all, sorry for possible bad english. I am about to buy helix along with some kind of speakers. I know that there are tons of topis related to speakers to use with helix but most of them are old and dont answer my specific doubt (actually most dont aproach dialing tones with recording in mind). My band have a pair of JBL EON615. I guess they might be good to dial tones to use live(most places i play already have a PA system with floor monitors) but i am not sure if tones to use live will translate well to record. For recording purposes i guess studio monitors with speakers of 5'',6'',7'' or 8'' are better suited.. am i right? if so, Could you give me some recommendations of something around $400? And the other way around would work well? i mean... tones dialed to record could be used live with good fidelity? It seens way to much effort in having to dial each patch twice. One for live use and other for recording. Finally..... Am i just thinking to much? i could just dial tones in the JBL and then record with them and the results would be good? Thank you in advance for the help
  10. I'm trying to get more signal to my Mic path output. Preamps alone don't have enough umph. So what amp will give me natural flat boost without distortion?
  11. So, I've been working on putting together some bass tones for a big recording project. I've got a distorted tone I really like (a kind of TesseracT/Periphery distorted upper mids sort of thing), but I can't seem to nail the kind of clean tone I'm going for. I want something very crisp/glassy sounding, basically something like this with reverb optional. Everything I've tried has sounded really thin and lifeless or kind of "honky." Anyone got any pointers?
  12. Hello, I use Line 6 UX2 with Podfarm as software to play my guitar. So this is how I usually connect: Guitar -> UX2 -> Computer (Podfarm) | Headphones Now I bought a Loop pedal and I do this: Guitar -> Loop Pedal -> UX2 -> Computer (Podfarm) | Headphones And it works perfectly fine! No delay or whatsoever. My question is whenever I play something, let's say Am C D F as a loop with CLEAN sound and then on my Layer 2 want to play solo over this, and click "Pedal ON" on my Podfarm the Layer 1 also changes. So how do I solve this problem? I want to be able to: Layer 1. Clean acoustic sound, looping! Layer 2. Distortion Solo. Layer 3. Another sound etc. So how do I do this with the UX2? Please help.
  13. Here is what I am looking for... I'd like to run two amps (one for clean tone, one for dirty tone w/ possible tube screamer), and be able to alternate between the two. Initially, I was thinking of running dual signal path for this, and then setting everything to the same switch (pressing the switch turns on dirty amp mod and tube screamer, and turns off clean amp and vice-versa), but I would need the unused path to be muted. I would assume the other way to do it (in the same patch) would be to run the amps in series. I am running a mono output, so I don't need stereo signals. I'd rather not have to set a different patch (in each block of 4) for each different tone in a song. And I would also be concerned about the delay between switching (the firehawk was a nightmare with this, I didn't keep it long...). I'm new to the PODHD world, and I've only been able to spend a few hours with the HD500x thus far. If anyone can give me good insight into how to set this up, I'd appreciate it. For a little more info, I'll be leaning towards the higher gain amps for my dirty tone (Fireball, Elektrik, etc.), and so far I'm liking the blackface for my cleans. My amp rig is a 6505 on an 212 orange cab with vintage 30s. I love my dirty tone from the amp, but I'm currently just using it as a power-amp to see what the HD can do. I find running it into the effect return on the head sounds much better than the instrument line in on the front.
  14. Hi guys! I just uploaded this new video. It's a Helix Native demonstration in 9 different styles ranging from clean to 8-string metal. I used different amp models and OwnHammer IR's for each tone. Helix Native is such a wonderful tool and I've been a fan ever since it came out. Working wth this plugin is just so easy and I get great results every single time! If I get enough requests I could do a tutorial for all the tones. Please enjoy:

  16. Hello all, I am new on all of this. I've been playing my electric guitar for some time. And I bought the Line 6 PODHD500 some time ago and a friend helped me out to put some basic sounds, as a metalcore sound, clean, solo, etc. I use as a amp the Line 6 Spider IV (15). Well, my problem is that I was a long time without using my pedal, so I restarted and I don't know anything about this kind of things, but with the help of some videos I got all drivers, etc etc, and the edit program, where I have put some metalcore and djent rythms on it and sounds great, the problem is when I use acoustic or clean tones, such as piezos, acoustic, etc. It always sounds with distortion, I can't get anything clean. I have my amp with metal, but if I put it in clean it doesn't sound at all. So I don't know how to fix it, I just want a clean / acoustic sound to some intros or to play some indie. Does anyone know what's happening? If something is not clear for my english, sorry and feel free to ask. Greetings from Spain!
  17. Colleagues: I've had the Helix a month and it's fantastic and I'm definitely keeping it. The versatility (especially using IRs) is amazing. But my experience is a bit similar to "joseroys" who started a thread 2-14-17 with a title like I used here. I have a high-frequency "fizz" that spans the spectrum when using a flat global eq (turned off). Rather than take up any time now with what I'm using , etc., if a couple folks could simply recommend factory presets that they find have a clean sound no ovedrive) with global eq off, I will take a listen and be sure my unit is OK. I want to be sure I'm hearing what you're hearing. I've been a guitar player for nearly 50 years and have played in the modeling/digital realm since I bought my first POD a long time ago and I can be hyper sensitive to certain sounds. I can get the tone I want using global eq with a couple eq's in the signal chain, but I need to do significant adjusting when going between my ultra strat and PRS custom 24. I have been reading the forum on this and other topics for a couple weeks and that really helped me get control of the Helix sound. Thanks in advance for your replies! Doug
  18. Hi, i have a HD500x and have a lot of great distortion tones. My complaint is about clean tones.... Looking at the amp models the hd500x models, for me there´s really only one that can have a pure clean sound (the blackface - fender twin reverb)... All the others have at least a little crunch even with very little volume. I really think L6 should offer for us at leat one or two more really clean amps. I feel restricted when i want to create a very clean sound as i only have one option as amplifier and even with the blackface, when i want more output so it doesn´t sound a lot lower than the distortions, it gets a little crunchy. I am doing something wrong to get clean tones from the other amps available? Does anyone have any hints on how to get a good variety of really clean sounds on the HD500x?? Thanks.
  19. Hi there I just got the line 6 pod 2 and was wondering if anybody knows where can I get Marshall distortion and clean sound settings, will be easy for me just to copy some of them, Im trying to avoid the download stuff in the computer seems to complicated, all the information provided will be really appreciated, Thanks :)
  20. Hi friends! I've got an HD500 running into one DT25 combo amp. Recently fell in love with the BF-Double VIB(Fender twin reverb). Rich, warm clean tone yet with clarity, especially through the DT-25 amp! However, its overdrive is farty and bloated (name that quote)! I haven't found a setting or overdrive pedal to fix this. I've always loved the AC30 overdrive - tight, warm, not farty or fuzzy, but the clean is a bit... sterile. I want the warm clean of the BFx2 but the tight crunchy overdrive of the AC30! I considered using a dual amp mode, but it's confusing which amp is controlling the actual DT25 wiring, and I felt I just got the worst of both worlds. My warm, clean tone from the BFx2 was gone. I welcome any advice for improvements, whether they be the perfect adjustments to the BF-Double to fix the farty overdrive, advice for dual amps with one DT-25, the perfect overdrive pedal (with settings), an alternative to the BFx2 model, or even ditching the HD500 amp models with the perfect DT-25 settings, etc... Thanks!!! Extra notes: For an overdrive, I hate it when notes seem to fight each other and it gets all buzz-sawey or farty / indistinct. Looking for more of a Brit crunch, perhaps some U2 like tone (who also uses an AC30). My Rig: Fender Strat American Deluxe (with a Tele bridge pickup) HD500 DT-25 Amp
  21. Hey friends! I've restarted that epic quest for the right tone. Previously I had loved the AC30, particularly for its wonderful overdrive (I'd use a boost/compressor for juice, no overdrive pedal needed), but its clean tone was not warm enough. So I experimented and fell in love with the BF-Double VIB(Fender twin reverb). Rich, warm tone yet with clarity, especially through the DT-25 amp! However, its overdrive is farty and bloated (name that quote). I started experimenting with overdrive pedals but nothing compares to the AC30's natural drive tone. Anyone have any suggestions? Alternative amp models with a warm, full clean and a warm but tight, crunchy overdrive? Distortion pedals that actually sound good (not fuzzy or farty)? Extra notes: For an overdrive, I hate it when notes seem to fight each other and it gets all buzz-sawey or farty / indistinct. My Rig: Fender Strat American Deluxe (with a Tele bridge pickup) HD500 DT-25 Amp
  22. I LOVE the Blackface Double Vibrato clean tone - warm yet with clarity! But its overdrive is farty, loose, and unpleasant (much prefer a crunch, tight AC30-like overdrive). Anyone experimented with comparing the BFx2 NRM vs VIB models? I think the VIB model is brighter, but the manual's description says it has "clipping characteristics that are different than the Normal channel due to an additional 12AX7 tube stage"... perhaps this causes the farty overdrive I'm experiencing?
  23. Hello Is there a way to set up a distortion/overdrive pedal with "clean blend" for bass guitar with HD500X? I'm using the "GK" - amp sim from the bass pack and really liking the clean tone from it. For distortion i'm using the "vintage Rat" distortion pedal that sound pretty good. The problem is that when doing that I'm "loosing" all my bass tone soo to say. I would like to "blend" them both together like on a real bass distortion pedal. Is this possible? Any help would great! /Danne
  24. Hello! It's been a long time since I last posted here, to the tune of 8 years. But I have returned! B) And I have completed more music using the PODxt, and if you wish to listen you can hear it at: https://soundcloud.com/chasetribble/tracks I'm a poor musician, I work for comments! Let me know if you enjoy any of the tracks. Follow me or friend me on soundcloud. Thanks!
  25. I purchased a Demo (like new) DT50, 212. Voicing 1, Ch A works in an odd manner. If every knob is on the off (or counter clockwise) position, except the volume. The amp is silent. Voicing 1/ch B and in all other voicings, it plays perfectly, but with the expected differences. If I increase the level of the drive knob, the volume comes up with distortion increases and the knob is rotated. That seems good so far, However, with the drive fully counter clockwise, if I increase the level on the bass knob, the overall volume begins to increase (from silent) but distorted at the exact level and rate as the drive knob, but with an ever increase bass tone as well. So to rephrase, the bass has to be on at some level to get any sound at all, but, the bass has drive distortion. with both the drive and bass on the channel is basically overdriven. It is impossible to get a clean tone on voicing 1, ch A My questions are, would a factory reset or firmware upgrade change that? Has anyone ever seen such a thing Thank you for taking the time to read this, Mike
