First of all, thanks for reading. I've searched throughout this forum, youtube and google in general, but haven't found an answer to my question. Most of the posts I've seen are about MIDI sync for effects, like delay tempos. I see that in FW 2.20, a "Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Receive MIDI Clock" option was added to allow Helix to receive a MIDI clock, which I can see working in this youtube video. However, what I'd like to know is if the built-in looper can sync with the incoming MIDI clock. That would mean that the looper's start/stop/overdub controls would lock to the nearest incoming MIDI clock pulse, so that the recorded loop would stay perfectly in sync with MIDI. This would allow a tight integration between a loop in the Helix with other external sequenced music that was providing a MIDI clock. Other dedicated loopers such as the Pigtronix Infinity Looper, Boomerang |||, Electro-Harmonix 2880 and EHX 45000 can all do this. Does anyone know if this is possible? Can anyone connect their Helix via MIDI to an external MIDI clock generator (most MIDI-capable keyboards, sequencers and DAWs can do this) and see if the looper timing can be synced to the MIDI clock without any drift? Bonus points if there's a youtube video showing this working :D :D Not knowing this is the only thing keeping me from buying a Helix! Thanks, Cowboy

Can the looper be Midi controlled to start and stop recording? I've been writing some tunes that for live use I could really use a the looper on the helix but we play with a click and I've been working on midi clocking my preset for the set list and it got me thinking if I could set it up loops to match up with the click.

please, put the BPM information on the MAIN SCREEN, i never know what bpm my TAP tempo is running ... and it's not practical to do a soft touch on the TAP Switch on a live situation, thanks for the attention ...

Hi, I'm trying to sync the tempo in the POD by sending the clock from my DAW (Reaper) via midi. I have two problems. 1.The POD only syncs the tempo when I go to the midi page in the system settings or when I press a footswitch. 2.The synchronized tempo always drifts by -/+0.2bpm and takes a bit of time to sync. I tried with both global and preset options for the tempo. Is there some workaround for these problems? What I'm trying to do is to play backing tracks with tempo changes during the playback and I would like the tempo in the POD to sync with the DAW without me having to press footswitches and without any drifting. Any advice or setting i'm missing in the DAW or in the POD? Thank you

Hi all Im trying to clock the Helix tempo (delays etc ) from an external midi clock source. .its IOS 11 on an IPAD pro using a yamaha MD-BT01 to receive midi at the Line 6 Helix Its wildly misinterpreting the tempos...... Here are some examples of SONG tempo set in Bandhelper vs what arrives in Helix, and it runs at when clocked by the external midi clock also the light on the helix which flashes in time, is VERY irregular under bandhelper midi clock BH HELIX 65 69 76 80 80 82 113 127 121 135 also tried sending Midi clock from MIDIFLOW app on IOS...same thing ! ...so it looks like the HELIX is misinterpreting the incoming midi clock tempo....bizarre! Does anyone have any clue what could be going on here? Thanks in advance Bill P

I have recently updated all my Reaper project to work with Helix Native. First of all, great software, hands down. Makes my life so much easier, being able to tweak the hell out of my mix in a non-destructive way. Made Helix the platform of my choice for live and studio. I found two issues related to clock synchronisation and I am wondering if anyone else experienced them: When opening existing project, the DAW tempo is ignored and instead, the per preset tempo value is used. A workaround is to manually reset the synchronisation, however doing so on 10+ instances every time I open a new project is a somewhat dreadful task. Screencast here. Tremolo is not synchronised across multiple instances. That makes it useless for dubbed tracks. I suspect this is related to the above, i.e. effects do not properly sync up to DAW upon a playback. Screencast here. I have not tried other DAWs, however given that no other plugin I use has synchronisation issues (including the Helix Rack itself I own), I suspect is a Native bug. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi everyone! This is mostly directed toward Line 6, because I think a lot of potential buyers would like to know. I have a ton of pedals and use a lot of them live. I have some of them synced to MIDI clock, and one that sends a metronome to my drummer, so I can use tempo based effects live, such as tremolo, step filter, delay etc. The Helix is amazing! It does most of what my current rig does, plus so many things you can't do with an analog rig at all. And obviously it sounds amazing as well, as one might expect from Line 6. I would buy a Helix to replace my current rig this year if it could send MIDI clock. Are there plans to incorporate a MIDI clock? If so, will it come in a firmware update, or will it require a new hardware design? Thank you!!!

Another idea which would make my life easier if implemented: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Restart-internal-clock-by-MIDI-Footswitch/690702-23508 Shouldn't be hard for Line 6 to pull this off over MIDI. The tricky part would perhaps be assigning it to a footswitch (I'm HD Pro guy so not sure but I think Tap Tempo footswitch is hard assigned, right?). I understand if a drummer uses a click and I need to sync to it we should have it synchronized using an external clock but anyway, would be nice. Moreover, I don't think it's possible to control the start of the loop with external clock, or is it? Does anybody have experience with this?

Q: Are the effects mono or stereo? A: The dry audio path and several effects are stereo, but many effects are mono - just like the original effects they were modeled after. Q: In which order should I connect multiple Studio Modelers? A: This is a matter of personal preference, but the general consensus is the Filter Pro first, then Mod Pro, with Echo Pro last. This configuration will allow you to use different Filter and Mod effects on different layers of a loop in the Echo Pro. Q: Can the Studio modelers perform spillover? A: To a certain extent you will be able to shift between programmed presets and maintain your signal. However there is a bit of time warp that is going to happen when switching between delays. It's kind of like changing the speeds on a multi-head delay unit. If you select a program from the delay select knob your signal will be interrupted. Q: Will the Studio Modelers respond to note division? A: Yes, all of the effects modelers have the ability to perform dotted and triplet quarter, eight and sixteenth notes. Q: Can I connect headphones to the studio modelers? A: It is possible to connect your headphones to the Studio Modelers 1/4 inch L/Stereo output. However, because this is a line level output intended for connection to an unbalanced input, there may not be enough volume level for a satisfying experience. We recommend using a mixer with a headphone amp for this type of application. Q: Can the studio modeler synch to a MIDI clock? A: Whether you are sync'd to MIDI clock or simply tapping in beats with the TAP button, a single press of the TAP button will set the running effect's "downbeat" (the time at which it starts moving). In other words, if you are using a tremolo effect and want to hear audio on the first beat, and nothing on the second beat, press the TAP button on the downbeat. Now, if you're locked to MIDI clock and want the computer to do it for you, simply send a single MIDI Continuous Controller #64 (Sustain Pedal) message to the Mod or Filter Pro on the downbeat and the units will start on their downbeat as well. Although the Studio Modelers will sync to external MIDI clock from your sequencer, drum machine, or what have you, as well as pass it along to other devices (providing the MIDI port is set to 'Thru'), they do not generate or transmit their own MIDI clock. Q: How can I control the Studio modelers? A: The Studio Modeler series are fully MIDI mappable and will accepts program change and continuous controller messages from any MIDI device. It is possible to connect and control a single or multiple Studio Modelers via MIDI. You can connect the MIDI Out of a POD, Flextone or other MIDI device to the MIDI In of the first Studio Modeler in the MIDI chain and control one or multiple units from the other MIDI device. The Line 6 EX-1 pedal will work with all of the Studio Modelers. allowing you to control your effects in real time. You can use this to morph from one set of parameters (toe-down) to another set (toe-up) within a given model. The expression pedal function can also be controlled on the Pro Modeler series by using a third party MIDI foot controller. You will need to program your expression pedal to send MIDI CC #4. Q: How do I synch to the bit rate in a recording program such as Protools? A: Bit depth and sample rate choice has to do with what your final media will be, i.e. CD, DVD, etc. Also, if you're working on a project with other people, it's good to have a game plan, for instance recording a project at 24 bit, 44.1khz, then dithering down to 16 bit for the final mix. Typically, this is a good way to go for CD projects (recording at 24 bit, 44.1khz) as you have a greater dynamic range for mixing with the 24 bits, and you don't have to do a sample rate conversion, as you already at 44.1 khz. If you choose a higher sample rate, try to choose a multiple of your final product, i.e. 88.2 khz for a 44.1 khz final product. Q: How can I go into bypass mode using MIDI? A: If you have setup a foot controller to send a bypass CC# or program change to the Studio Modeler, you will need to first engage the bypass by pressing on the footswitch once, and then dis-engage bypass by pressing the footswitch a second time. If you select a different program by using another footswitch, the Studio Modeler will also come out of bypass mode. You can also program and save a preset with your mix level set to 0%. Use this program as your bypass and then you will be able to access bypass and then proceed to another program without having to do a little dance on your foot controller. Q: Can I use a Line 6 FBV or floorboard to control the Studio Modelers? A: The Line 6 FBV or Floorboard will not work with the Echo Pro. However you can take advantage of the numerous MIDI mapping capabilities of the Studio Modelers used in conjunction with a third party MIDI foot controller. This would allow you to control program change, continuous controller parameter functions, tap tempo, and loop / sampler functions from your foot controller. Q: What are the dimensions of the Studio Modeler unit? A: Width: 19", Depth: 5.75", Height: 1.75", Weight: 6.2lb.
