  1. It would be beneficial for the FX "controller" section in the 500X to add a footswitch parameter to allow the control of the speed function when using the rotary drum and horn (Leslie). So far the programming allows Exp 1, Exp 2, Variax volume, Variax tone or off. I have gotten the pedal to control speed from parameter zero to 100, (using exp 1 or 2 reserved for the pedal) allowing a varying speed for the Leslie effect. To be clear, I am requesting the addition of selecting a footswitch (in addition to the exp 1 and 2, Variax tone or volume or off) to select the drum/horn speed from slow to fast. I have also heard that plugging in an external Expression pedal may do this. As would an on off switch plugged in to the external expression switch on the rear. I do not wish to add another external item, or I would use outboard volume and a Cry Baby pedal to free up the internal exp 1 and 2. Thank you
  2. Hi guys, I'm facing some confusion you can help me sort out. I'm trying to interface HD500X with external MIDI controller. HD500X can send FS push as MIDI message, and FX stomps can be controlled (enabled/disable) by external MIDI message. Problem is, that these two things are not consistent, i.e. FS push keeps its own state. In reality it behaves like this: - load preset, HD sends MIDI CC messages with values according to initial FS setup - controller reads values (0/127) for FS and indicate status - when using HD switches, controller responds with state toggle acordingly, BUT - when you send MIDI CC to control FX stomp enable disable, HD responds with enable/disable and light indication AND - on next FS push HD doesn't send actual FX stomp acitvation/deactivation, but opposite to the last state when FS has been pushed. 1. HD load and send CC 127 on enabled stomps 2. EXT controller receives messages, saves states, indicate on/off 3. push HD FS - HD sends CC 0 (on FX disable), HD turns LED off, EXT controller disables LED indication, sets internal state to 0 4. push EXT controller, it sends CC 127 -> trying to enable FX stomp, HD receives CC, enables FX and light up LED 5. push HD FS - HD disables FX stomp, but SEND CC 127!!!! = controlling FX on/off isn't consistent when using both controllers Any ideas how to solve this strange behavior? What I need is, that both controllers are with sync. Thanks a lot Regards T.
  3. I am still learning stuff on my Pod HD500 and one question that I have is regarding the use of the HD500 as a midi controller. Basically, would it be possible to use the pedal to control loops from a PC while still using the effects from the pedal? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! :)
  4. I have the Spider valve 112MKii combo and the Express pedal. I have had a hell of a time figuring how to set up this stuff. anyhow, the express pedal works fine,(stores only 4 sounds/wah and volume) but when I hook it up to my computer, it goes blank.(the pedal) I have all of the drivers installed, and collaborated the pedal, I just want to get MKii EDIT to work, but the computer does not recognize the amp because the fbv express turns off when I plug in the USB cable from the pedal to the usb port on the computer. can I bypass this and use MKii EDIT directly somehow? any ideas??

  6. Hi line 6 community, i'm searching for a good usb midi foot controller for Ableton Live and i would like to know if is possible to use the line 6 shortboard MK1 (not mk2). I want to control especially the loop function and effects on/off. Is it complicated to configure? I can't find the manual of that product, is there something online? Thanks
  7. I have an old pod xt that recently stopped working. The signal from my guitar was not getting through the pod at some point. Whether before or after dsp, it won't output any sound. That being the case, I was wondering at the MIDI capabilities of the board. I know that one could use a controller(s) to control parameters inside the xt, but could one use the xt itself as a controller for another unit, whether another POD or even a computer-based processor such as Amplitude or Guitar Rig? I know the ins and outs of computer audio, I just need to know if the xt itself has the capability to send MIDI triggers to another unit, whether as to recall various presets or channels, or to turn on/off affects in a separate dsp unit. I had been looking in to MIDI controllers as it was, such as Behringer's FCB1010 and Roland's FC300, but was disappointed to learn that they don't have much ability to turn effects on or off, but only to recall presets. I am hoping that the xt has these capabilities so as to simplify the completion of my current guitar setup. My thanks. J.P.
  8. Hi All , I have a HD500 and i want to know if anyone had built a MIDI controller template for switching Banks,programs and more control of all patches ? There are many MIDI designers and controller apps for iPhone and iPad and i think it would be convenient to have MIDI controlling the presets on the HD and M fx. There are apps like TouchOSC , Lemur , Control , Midi Designer etc that can be used to build custom MIDI interfaces. I did a quick test with Midi Designer Pro and was able to send a Bank Change and Program Change and have the HD500 swtich to the right preset. Designing a flexible MIDI controlling template would be a big effort and is there a ready template for some app already built ? Also , does the HD500 let one vary the values with MIDI also ? Can the 4 knobs be mapped to sliders in the MIDI controller interface so that it would be very easy to change presets but even parameters on the fly right from the guitar ! Any ideas / inputs welcome ! thanks pat
  9. If I was to use a midi foot controller (for example an Art X15) with the flextone 3 I know I can still access all 36 patches. However if I say access patch C3 (or any of the other, extra 32 patches not directly accessible from the front panel) and change a setting can I resave it to that patch by holding down the C button or will that resave it to the first bank?

Just connect the MIDI OUT from the POD HD500/HD500x to the MIDI IN on the DT amplifier with a MIDI cable. Then, go in the POD HD500/HD500x's MIDI assign screen (by holding the MOVE button for a few seconds) to assign a footswitch to send the desired MIDI parameters to change the settings on the DT amplifier. From here, you need to reference the DT amplifier's MIDI CC reference charts above to assign the proper MIDI CC to a footswitch on the POD HD500/HD500x. For example, on the DT50 amplifiers, sending MIDI CC# 11 with a value of 0-30 will change the assigned HD amp model set to any one of the voicings on Channel A of the DT50. So, if you want to change Voicing I of Channel A on the DT50 amp from the original Fender Blackface to be a Hiway 100 amp model instead, do the following: On any preset (blank or not) on the POD, go to the POD's MIDI Assign screen by holding the MOVE button for a few seconds. We suggest doing this on a blank new preset so that you can use this preset to send these MIDI messages to your DT amplifier. Let's assign Footswitch 1 (FS1) to send MIDI CC# 11 with a value of 003. Press on FS1 so that the arrow is pointing to it in the POD's screen. Turn Knob 1 to select MIDI CH: Base. Turn Knob 2 to select Message: CC. Turn Knob 3 to select CC# 011. Turn Knob 4 to select Value: 003. You can exit the MIDI Assign screen by pressing the View button once. Now, by simply pressing the FS1 footswitch, you will be sending MIDI CC# 11 value 003 to the DT50 amp which will change the Voicing I of Channel A on the DT50 amp from the original Fender Blackface to be a Hiway 100 amp model. Press the Save button once, rename the preset with the knobs below the screen, then press the Save button once again to store these settings to the POD's preset. MIDI CC#11 value 0-30 will change the HD amp model on Channel A of the selected voicing on the DT25/DT50 amp. MIDI CC#12 value 0-30 will change the HD amp model on Channel B of the selected voicing on the DT25/DT50 amp. Here are reference charts for both the DT25 and the DT50 from the MIDI Reference guide to help you set your values when programming MIDI to the switches of the POD HD500/HD500x. MIDI can be assigned to any of the footswitches of the POD HD500/HD500x EXCEPT for the Bank Up and Bank Down switches. Using MIDI OX to send MIDI parameters to the DT amplifiers You can also use MIDI OX software to send the desired MIDI messages to your DT amplifier when using a dedicated MIDI interface connected between your computer set to work with MIDI OX and the DT amplifier's MIDI IN port. In MIDI OX, click on the Send MIDI Controller Messages button to see the following window: You’ll want to use the drop down window to select the desired controller event (as referenced in the documentation above such as MIDI CC# 11 or CC#12, etc.) and then select the value on the right (as in the previous example above, value of 0-30, etc.) then, hit the Send button to send that MIDI message to the DT amplifier. Notice the text by the numbers which are simply part of the standard MIDI spec. These descriptors are irrelevant for the DT amps – again, just look for the number that correlates to the DT parameter you want to send. It also may be confusing that the numbers are not listed sequentially. If you wanted to change the preamp for the current Voicing of channel A you would select number 11 (labeled expression in the MIDI OX drop down) and number 3 (if you wanted to load the Hiway 100 model for example) using the up/down buttons in the field labeled Value. Hit send and the current Voicing on Channel A should be the Hiway 100. A: The Line 6 products that are compatable with the Line 6 Floorboard/FB4 are: * Axsys/AX2 * Flextone (I), II combos and heads * POD (I) and II (marked as "pedal", not "FBV), POD Pro * Bass POD and Bass POD Pro * Spider (I) Q: What type of cables are used with the Line 6 controllers? A: The Line 6 controllers use a standard CAT-5/6 cable with standard RJ-45 ends. These cables are very common in data connection and can be found in most local computer outlets. The FBV controllers ship with a black 25' cable included in the box. Q: How long can the CAT-5/6 cable be before I have communication errors? A: We've tested with cable lengths up to 50' with no problems. Q: Can I use a "cross-over" CAT-5/6 cable with Line 6 gear? A: You CANNOT use a "crossover" CAT-5 cable, as it may send voltage to unintended locations of your FBV Controller and damage the unit. Q: I used a new data cable to connect my Floorboard/FB4 controller and I saw smoke? A: It sounds as if you may have used a network "cross-over" cable, which has a different wiring configuration (but the same RJ-45 connection) as a standard CAT-5/6 cable. If this is the case, voltage that was intended to power the the pedal were routed to the wrong place, resulting in damage to the pedal. This FBV series controller will need to repaired/replaced. Q: Can I use a CAT-5 data splitter from my Line 6 unit(s) to run multiple Floorboard/FB4 controllers on stage (or run multiple Line 6 units from a single controller)? A: No, The FBV controller was designed to work on its own with a single amplifier. Q: How do I activate the trem/chorus button on my Floor Board? A: In order to activate the TREM/CHORUS effect while in the Floor Board's EFFECT ON/OFF mode, the chosen program (or Channel) will need to have the desired effect already programmed into it, but in the off the position. To do this, simply select the desired program, add and adjust the desired Tremolo, Chorus, Flanger or Rotary effect, engage the EFFECT ON/OFF mode on the Floor Board and then turn the effect off with the TREM/CHORUS button. Now, with the effect turned off, press SAVE twice. The program is now stored with the desired effect and effect settings, but in the off position. This effect can now be toggled on and off using the TREM/CHORUS button when the Floor Board is in EFFECT ON/OFF mode. Q: Can I use the Line 6 Floor Board as a MIDI controller to control other MIDI effects units? A: The Line 6 floorboard is not a dedicated MIDI controller for multiple units. Line 6 units that have midi outputs can send midi program change information. You can then simply connect the midi out jack from the Line 6 device to the midi in of the device that you wish to control. Be aware that there is no MIDI channel control and you may need to perform MIDI mapping within the second unit. Q: I am not able to get a Wah or Volume Sweep on my Line 6 Floorboard? A: 1. Check the photoelectric strip running under the wah pedal to make sure it is not ripped or torn. If it ripped it will need to be replaced.If it is not seated correctly, you may be able to manually adjust it. 2. Replace the ethernet cable connecting your floorboard to your unit. It is a standard category five ethernet cable with two male rj45 connectors. 3. Re-seat the cable in the jacks of the floorboard and amp. Q: I can not get my floor board to switch to the Presets, I try to hit the two switches simultaneously but it never goes to "P" only to "U"? A: If you are using the Floor Board with a POD, Spider or Flextone II, this function is not available as all of the presets in these units are "U" (User Presets). This allows you to edit and store over all of them. Q: The Volume and/or the Wah Pedal on my Floor Board squeaks when I move it. What can I do to fix this? A: If the squeak you're hearing is more like a mechanical squeak, it could simply be a case of adjusting the screw and nut that mount the pedal to the Floor Board. Another simple solution may be to apply a small dab of 3-and-1 oil on the screw and nut that mount the pedal to the Floor Board. Q: How do I calibrate my Line 6 Floorboard? 1) Remove the six bottom screws and four side screws 2) Locate the green PCB directly underneath the pedals (you will see the pedal controls with white plastic sticking out). 3) There will be two small set screws on the lower right of the pedal controls. Use these screws to adjust the pedal control by listening and adjusting to your preference. The amp and pedal will need to be powered up, so be careful when performing this adjustment. If you you are still having difficulty after trying your unit with a different CAT-5 cable and Line 6 unit, take your Floorboard/FB to your nearest Line 6 Service Center.

Q: How do I adjust my tuner reference frequency back to 440Hz? A: While in tuner mode, turn the MIDDLE knob on your amp or POD. This will allow you to select a tuning reference frequency anywhere from 436-445Hz. Q: How can I change the volume level of the tuner on my AX2/Axsys? A: While in tuner mode, simply turn the CHANNEL VOLUME knob to the desired level. This will set your tuner level without effecting the other channels of your AX2/Axsys. There are several parameters of the AX2 User preset that must be adjusted properly for this to be implemented. Here are the settings: Reverb row / reverb level set to 0 Main row / Delay/reverb knob set to 90. Wah row / wah type set to 5.18. Wah row / wah depth set to 99. Increasing the Reverb row / reverb level setting will adjust the wah pedal minimum reverb level. Decreasing the Wah row / wah depth setting will adjust the wah pedal maximum reverb level. Q: How can I make my own personal patches? A: Unlike the Flextone, where the speaker compensation is done in the analog world, the AX2/Axsys cabinet emulation is done in the digital world. Because of this, when the speaker emualtion is on, it is going to be present in the direct outs as well as the speaker outs. For AX2/Axsys users, one solution can be to use a pair of analog boxes (like a Hughes & Kettner Red Box or a Digital Music Cab Tone Dual) to feed the PA in live situations and then use the AX2/Axsys compensated direct out for recording purposes only. There is another inexpensive and simple solution to the line out/speaker compensation issue. Many users find that when the speaker compensation is activated, the sound of the AX2/Axsys speaker is not objectionable but simply too dark (there needs to be more treble in the sound) while the amps direct out sounds great through the PA. It is possible to simply feed a little of the direct sound through your vocal monitor and then have some of the low end rolled off. You can achieve this by "Y'ing" the AX2/Axsys direct output into two mixer channel line inputs and using the second channel to EQ your personal monitor feed. This allows you to use the first mixer channel to send the full range AX2/Axsys direct sound through the main house sound system. Then, send the separately EQ'ed sound from the second mixer channel to your vocal monitor. The sound that comes through your vocal monitor is "tinny", but when it gets mixed in with the "bassy" sound of the AX2/Axsys speakers, the resulting sound is pretty well balanced. You may also find that there is also an added depth to the sound similar to running a bi-amped bass guitar rig. You can also apply this concept of Y'ing the direct out to connect to another amplifier other than your vocal monitor. You can use another combo amp or a "Hot Spot" type monitor. You may also find that adding external effects to the "monitor" feed gives you some extra sound processing possibilities. Q: It is possible to control the delay level of the AX2 with the wah pedal of the Line6 floorboard? A: There are several parameters of the AX2 User preset that must be adjusted properly for this to be implemented. Here are the settings: Delay row / delay level set to 0 Main row / Delay/reverb knob set to 90. Wah row / wah type set to 5.12. Wah row / wah depth set to 99. Set up Q: If I only run one speaker on the amp (AX2 212 upgrade) Will I still get the full stereo signal (i.e. the rhythm of the delay will be the same)? If I DI the AX with a mono cable into the PA will I also get stereo delay in a mono? A: You will get only 1/2 of the signal from the amp if you run one speaker. You will still get stereo out of the direct output. You will get mono out of the amp if you use a mono cable. It can be a complicated matter to run a direct output from an amplifier to a live sound system and simultaneously monitor that amplifier's internal speakers on stage. The issue of the cabinet emulation on the AX2 is somewhat more complex than it looks at first glance, since unlike the Flextone, where the speaker compensation is actually done in the analog world, on the AX2 it's done in the digital world and, because of hardware limitations, can't be both present (at the direct out) and not present (at the speakers) at the same time. To do so would require adding additional A/D conversion and a divergent data path, neither of which is a software solution, or an inexpensive, ungradable hardware change. The AX2 design was never intended to have both in simultaneous use. Was it a bad design decision? Maybe, but hindsight is always 20/20, and all of our products are being used in ways that transcend their original design, for good or ill. For AX2 users, one solution can be to use a pair of analog boxes (For example, I have a H&K Red Box and a Digital Music CabTone Dual-lok'd to the inside of my AX2 cabinet) to feed the PA in live situations and use the compensated direct out only for recording purposes. Not the most elegant solution, but a very usable and portable one. There is another cheap and simple solution to the line out/speaker compensation issue. Many users find that the sound of the AX2 speakers, when speaker compensation is activated, is not objectionable, but is simply too dark. There needs to be much more treble in the sound. The direct out sounds great through the PA. You can simply feed a little of the direct sound through your vocal monitor. Have the low end rolled off my personal monitor sound. We realize that this solution is not superior to having separate control of all AX2 amp outputs, but it works without having to spend the extra money on external speaker emulation devices. We hope this solution gives you one more option that may help you get a better monitor sound, in some situations. You may also be able to apply this concept of Y'ing the direct out to others amplifiers than your vocal monitor. You might be able to use another combo amp or a "Hot Spot" type monitor. You may also find that adding external effects to "monitor" feed gives some extra sound processing possibilities. Q: Can the AX2/Axsys power an external speaker cabinet? A: Yes, an external cabinet can be connected to the AX2/Axsys by disconnecting the existing Axsys speakers and connecting the extension cabinet. The speaker outputs of the AX2/Axsys must be connected to an 8ohm or 16ohm load. Do not use a 4ohm load, as it will cause the amp to overheat. Q: How do I record with the AX2/Axsys line out? A: The LINE OUT/HEADPHONE jack of the AX2/Axsys is a stereo output so we suggest that you use a "Stereo TRS" (Tip/Ring/Sleeve) jack to take advantage of the stereo output. A TRS jack is basically a stereo jack much like the jack on the end of your stereo headphones. You can use a mono or guitar cable in the LINE OUT/HEADPHONE output but you will only get one side of the stereo field. Set the Master Volume at 2-1/2 or lower to get a line level output that won't overdrive your mixer input. Remember that you can unplug the AX2 speakers when recording so that you don't have to have the amp playing in the room. If you need to have the amp playing in the room at a higher volume than 2-1/2, you may need to use an external 20 dB pad to bring the level of the signal going to the mixer back down to a usable level. See page 5*15 in the AX2 manual for more details Q: Can I adjust the STEREO LINE OUT/HEADPHONE level of my AX2/Axsys? A: In order to have the desired AX2/Axsys stage volume but not overdrive the input of the mixer, an external 20dB pad can be placed between the LINEOUT of the AX2/Axsys and the input of the mixer. Most mixing consoles already have a 20dB pad built in, but if necessary, an inexpensive outboard unit can be purchased. Rolls manufactures one called the DB25 Matchbox. It doubles as a direct box and a pad and should work great in this situation. Specifications Q: Is the Aux input on the AX2 unbalanced mono or stereo? A: The Aux input of the AX2 is unbalanced mono. The mono sound will be sent to both sides of the stereo output. Troubleshooting Q: How do I reset the Axsys/AX2? A: The factory reset for the Axsys 212 or AX2 is to hold down the USER PRESET and the SAVE (or STORE SOUND) buttons. Q: I have been getting a loud noise when switching from preset 01 on channel "A"? A: Please try a hard reset of your AX2/Axsys. Q: I am receiving a "lo batt" error message. What should I do? A: This message is an indication that the battery is not going to be with us much longer. We use lithium batteries in the AX2/Axsys in order to store the user presets, a common replacement is the Panasonic BR2325-1HG. The current battery will need to be de-soldered and replaced with a new battery. If you are not confident in doing this replacement, it should be performed by an authorized Line 6 Service Center. Q: I'm having a hard time getting my clean sounds really clean on my AxSys/AX2. Is there something that I can try? A: Always remember that there are many different places where you can increase or decrease gain on the AX2/AxSys. If you've chosen to increase it in all (or even most) of these places, you could be causing clipping after the TubeTone modeling. One of the most likely places for this to happen is in the Graphic EQ. A quick test is to turn the EQ off and see if your sound cleans up. If it does, move your whole EQ curve down so that your highest frequency boosts are no higher than +6. A general troubleshooting procedure to find where you might be getting unwanted clipping is to turn off all the effects, make sure that the sound is clean, then turn the effects back on, one at a time, checking for clipping after turning on each one. Q: I just upgraded to AX2 and my presets are changing radically every time I touch a knob. What's going on? A: The AX2 defaults to an 'immediate' editing mode in which the sound will instantly reflect the knob settings (i.e. when you change a knob, the sound changes immediately). You're used to the older 'capture' mode editing of the AxSys 212, where you had to move a knob to the position of its stored setting before you could change the setting. You can put the AX2 into the older editing mode by holding down the Main Row Edit Select button while powering up the amp. This setting is stored with the other Global settings, and you'll never have to think about it again unless you do a reset of the amp. (See page 2-2 of the manual) Q: I turned up the Delay/Reverb level in the Main Row, but I don't hear any reverb or delay? A: Make sure that the Delay and/or Reverb is turned on in the FX On/Off Edit Row or at the Floor Board. Still nothing? Remember that the individual Delay and Reverb Level controls in their respective Edit Rows have to be turned up as well. Q: The Axsys amplifier may make a crashing noise when switching between two presets that have Reverb or Delay on them? A: The Axsys amplifier may make a crashing noise when switching between two presets that have Reverb or Delay on them. The Axsys may also make a crashing noise when switching from a preset that uses the Acoustic Simulator to a preset that uses a non-Acoustic Simulator amp model with Reverb or Delay. There are several things that can be done to eliminate or minimize this noise. If the presets that are selected do not have any Reverb or Delay on them, the noise will be eliminated. It is possible to have Reverb or Delay pre-programmed into a preset but have the effects turned off. Then, after the preset has been selected using the EFFECTS ON/OFF foot switch function to activate the Reverb or Delay. This will eliminate switching noises at the time of the preset change. It is also possible to program the presets to minimize any noises that may occur during switching. The "SPRING" reverb model is the most likely to cause noises. Using another reverb model such as "DARK HALL" will lower the level of the noise. Maintaining a similar "reverb level" on the presets that are selected will also help to minimize this switching noise. There are three parameters that adjust the "reverb level" on the Axsys. The REVERB ON/OFF setting in the FX ON/OFF row, the REVERB LEVEL setting in the REVERB row and the REVERB/DELAY setting in the MAIN row. Q: Why is it that when the Axsys receives "MIDI program change messages", it will remain in the PRESET BANK or USER BANK it is set to at the time that the message is received? A: The Axsys will receive "MIDI program changes" via its MIDI IN jack and then follow with the preset changes outlined on page 10.4 of the Axsys owners manual. When the Axsys receives a "MIDI program change message" it will remain in the PRESET BANK or USER BANK it is set to at the time that the message is received. The Axsys will need to receive a "MIDI bank change message" in order to scroll to a different BANK. To toggle between the USER and PRESET BANKs, the user must press the USER/PRESET button on the front panel of the Axsys. Many MIDI foot controllers proceed their program change commands with bank change information. This is especially common in Roland controllers. This function will need to be defeated for these controllers to work properly with a Line6 product. Q: My amp seems to be malfunctioning and I have done the factory reset and checked the amp trouble shooting document. What can I do as an end user? Line 6 Amp Trouble Shooting Q: When I change to my acoustic simulator sound from a distortion I get a loud sound? A: That noise that you're hearing is the sound of the Reverb and/or Delay trailing off from the electric guitar amp model and being amplified by the acoustic model at the time you're making the switch. The acoustic models have a lot more gain applied to them than the electric models. This is done so that the level between the acoustic modeler and the electric modeler are more closely matched. To avoid that frying pan sound, you may need to compromise the Reverb and/or Delay on the electric sound; basically turn it off. You can either program the electric sound with no Reverb or Delay, or you can turn the Reverb and/or Delay off via the Floor Board a few seconds before you switch to the acoustic sound. You may have to experiment to see how long it takes for the Reverb/Delay to "finish" before it's safe to switch to acoustic. The "discharging" time will be different for different lengths of Reverbs and Delays. Q: Can I still get the AXSys/AX2 EPROM upgrade? A: No, as the AXsys/AX2 EPROM is no longer readily available on the commercial market. Q: Can I still get the AXSys/AX2 Line 6 cover?
