  1. For about 6 months I have been noticing a noise when I played my JTV into my HD500 and then directly in my church PA system using the XLR out. It was occuring when I strummed pretty hard (I do that a lot). When I first noticed it we had just installed a new digital mixer. I thought for sure that I was simply overloading my channel input on the board. Nope. Tried reducing input. Didn't go away. Next I blamed the HD500 thinking the VDI input was simply too hot for it. The problem did not occur when using the 1/4" input. I never knew that because I always use the VDI connection on stage so I can store guitar models in patches. I still wanted to use the VDI connection so I started experimenting and found that the problem came down completely to the 3rd string (G). I opened Workbench HD and lowered every string volume down as far as it would go and then one by one listened to a highly amped signal of each string while strumming like I play on Sunday mornings in worship. The noise only occured on the G string. Lowered it's volume by 6db and the noise is gone. In my opinion the lowered G string volume does not seem to bother the sound of the chords and notes I play. Not enough in my environment to make a negative difference. So, for all those of you who have also searched for that noise that resembles a banjo attack when playing JTV models that aren't a banjo, I encourage you to try each string alone. When I finally did that, the problem was TOTALLY obvious. Now, does anyone know if it is possible to change the piezo on just the 3rd string or how do I go about getting it so that 3rd string doesn't quack when strummed hard? I am happy with my current solution but wondering. I noticed the piezos on the Line 6 store don't work on the JTV. GOOD LUCK!
  2. Good day ! I seem to be having a problem when I play distorted and I have no idea if it's from the pod or my guitar . When I play distorted , I seem to be having a second distortion "behind" the distortion of the amp . It's a bright distortion , not loud but noticeable , and it sounds like when you have a slightly broken speaker that gives a crackling sound at certain frequencies. It's not because of my speakers , I recorded the sound and listened to it through different speakers and headphones . So it's either from the guitar or from the POD . It appeared out of the blue , after the last update but it turned up after a few days ( or I didn't notice it before ) Can anyone give me any advice ? Has anyone ever had this problem ? It's not from the jack input ... I took it out , all the wires are soldered , I cleaned it ... Thank you !
  3. Hello, Could you tell me how to connect an additional distorsion pedal (Satchurator) with the pod HD500 and the DT25? Right after the guitar and then in front of the Pod using the link 6 to connect the pod to the DT25? Or should i use the 4 cables method ? Ty ;)
  4. So I just got this amp i've been playing to for a while and it sounds awesome! every channel was working perfectly fine until one day, i put it on the crunch pre set and it didn't give me any distortion. I tries the factory reset and volume boost and i WOULD get distortion but it sounded so ugly that i stopped playing, any ideas on how to fix? would buying a distortion pedal help to get the distortion sound i want?
  5. Pardon me for an elementary question. Newly purchased Spider IV. Presets work great. When I attempt to set a channel manually to distortion, such as "Metal", Drive maxed out, I get very little if any distortion. I watched video on Line 6 website to set amp to get a "Van Halen" sound. Followed settings as shown and still get not much in the way of distortion. What am I doing wrong?
  6. Hi everyone, i am in desperate need of a quick `fix` here as i have several gigs coming up, i will explain best i can as to the problem and hope someone can help as Line 6 themselves cant! This has happened 3 times now in the last 3-4 months : ( usually at the worst possible times) I have the SV 212 Mk2 40w Combo and use the FBV shortboard Mk2 . I have ABCD patches set up as Clean/Crunch/Distortion/Lead ,(i have several banks setup in a similar way with different sounds and it affects them all), the problem is sometimes the Distortion channel loses its sound, not totally, just the distortion, i am left with basically a `bare` sound ( slightly crunch) and i think there is a loss in volume too, the distortion sound just disappears, and the other channels suffer too although the clean channel not so much ( but does lose clarity) ........ hard to say how i manage to get it back, as i shut alll down, unplug everything, restart, the usual routine when theres a problem,.....this dosent `fix` the issue though as it can takes several attempts and sometimes not at all. Strangely if its left alone for a while and i fire it up it seems to be ok. The issue isn`t always there as i have done several 2 hr gigs since the problem started without issue and other times it has happened before ive even really started to play anything. I have a new CAT cable so thats not the problem. The problem seems to appear even at lowish volumes I have seen another user in the forums whos problem was like mine, ( who i have tried to contact), and there was a reply that it may be the valves ( valve!?) Could this be the case? Its very erratic therefore i am reluctant to send to Line 6 as it could spend weeks on a test bench without the problem arrising Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
  7. Does anyone no how to make a decent patch with both a clean and distortion sound in it. for instance, instead of switching from 1A to 1B, I can just stay on 1A with a clean sound, and flip on the overdrive as needed. I can't seem to get the distortion pedals to make a decent sound
  8. Hi! All new to this recording thing, so I would just like to ask some questions. The song I would like to record, is Tidal Tantrum by Dark Tranquillity. It's mostly the rythm part starting around 0:42 min into the song. I've tried lining up a noise gate with the Lunatic amp, but when I record it doesn't sound clean with the distortion. (I'm using Reaper for recording). I suspect this isn't the hardware or the softwares mistake, but rather me not knowing what to do probably. So if anyone has a good idea about a setup in podfarm, I would be glad to be enlightened :) Regards, Joshua R. Thomsen
  9. I just recently updated my Spider IV 150 to current specs and am exploring the new Gain effects. One thing that has always bothered me with modeling amps is the slight delay when switching amp models or channels (from A to B etc.) It occurred to me that with the new Gain effects, you don't have to switch channels to switch to your dirty sound. It's almost like the difference between switching channels and stepping on a distortion pedal (which I assume is what Line 6 was going for). My only issue is that the Gain stomps just don't quite have the same feeling as the amp models with drive cranked up. I've found that Tube Driver gets pretty close for a good rock to metal sounds, when compared to the cranked Class A Red or Insane Red. The Screamer is nice too but, I don't know how to describe it... I suppose what I kept running into is two conflicting EQs between the amp model and the stomp model (which just took time to find a good balance or just pick a new FX1 option) and a difference in output level, the cleans always seem to be more full and a little louder then when I kick in the Stomp effect. In the end I guess what I'm asking is if other people run into this to, how they deal with it, how they use the Gain effects, if anybody has some tips how to apply those effects along with channel volume, gain, drive etc. and lastly do people prefer to switch from A to B for clean/dirty or use the effects? Thanks!!!!
  10. The various amp models on the Spider IV give different distortion sounds, and you control how much distortion via the drive setting. But separate from that, FX1 gives a range of distortion effects options like "screamer" and so on, and you can control the amount of this distortion with FX1's "gain" setting. But how do these two interact? I don't mean that technically... I don't think... I mean in terms of modeling different tones do people generally use one type of distortion or the other (i.e. amp or FX1), or both together? It seems like most of the factory presets with distortion use both, but that's confusing to me (so many permutations!). If the amp models are meant to mimic various types of amps with their own distortion, why add the FX1 distortion effect on top of that?
  11. For the longest time I have had huge problems with my Pod HD 500. I am constantly hearing excess and un-needed noise whenever I am playing on a clean patch (and I can only assume it is happening on distorted patches although you can't hear it). No matter what amp model I'm using, the noise is persistent. I always thought maybe the pickups on my guitar are too hot, but as a raise or lower the pickups, the problem still occurs, even if I enable the PAD switch. I do not believe the pod is clipping for I have the volume knob at about 60% and the mixer volumes (VOLUME A & VOLUME B) set at -5 db. I have all the latest updates and I honestly do not know what to do. I have recorded an example the sounds I am hearing so it can give a clearer indication of what I mean. I will post the link. I recorded a direct signal with a clean patch from the Pod to my interface. Then I recorded the same riff, but with everything on the signal chain disabled. Lastly I recorded my guitar directly into my interface. When it is the completely dry signal from my guitar, i do not hear any additional noise so I can only assume its my Pod. Please help. I am getting awfully fed up with this issue. Thanks Here is the recording: http://puu.sh/3rr3I Clean problems.mp3
  12. Hi, I've had this problem since I upgraded to the latest firmware and drivers. When I try to record via USB to Garageband I get significant distorition. Below are the notes on the issue. Has Line6 done anything to fix this yet? I haven't seen any posts that truly have a solution to this issue besideds 'don't use USB' (which is not very helpful). It seems like a large enough issue. -The distortion does NOT occur on output to my amp or headphones. -The distortion is only on the guitar, the other mic input seems to work fine -The distorition occurs when Im running a patch (say dual tones - Acoustic / Vocal 5) or running through completely clean. -I've swapped in/out all the cables and they seem to work fine. -I've tried turning up the master and down the input on my mac and vice versa -There is no 18db checkbox on the mac, but my current input is set below that on the midi controller (it's set to 9.5 for the guitar input channel) and 18db on the vocal. -The distortion occurs with muliple types of guitars. -This occurs both in the recording and when I turn on the computer speakers as a monitor. I can't figure this out. Can someone please help me out? Thanks so much!
  13. Hi, I'm quite new to Line 6 POD gear and recording in general, and having a bit of a problem. I'm running my POD into a Tascam DP24, im using both outputs into the DP24? And the problem im having is that when i listen to my guitar through the headphone out of my POD it sounds great, but as soon as i record onto the Tascam it sounds very muddy, messy and slightly buzzy here and there, from either my monitors or headphones. And while that may seem like its the Tascam fault, when i record direct into the tascam using its built in amp simulator,it sounds obviously poorer in terms of realism, but it does sound some what clearer and a lot more defined than when i record with the POD. I understand that people might not no much about the Tascam, but just wondered if anyone might know if theirs anything i'm doing wrong with the POD. Any help will be much appreciated.

  15. Deutsch Français Q: How do I access the tuner? Spider Tuner FAQs Q: How do I save the Artist/Song presets from the Spider III/IV into the user banks so I can access those presets from my FBV series controller? A: Hold the desired Channel button (A B C D) for two seconds, then use the four-way arrow selector to choose the bank (number) and location (A, B, C or D) where you want to save the preset to. Select the channel button again, and you will see a rapid flash on the channel light to show the preset has been saved. Q: How do I operate the "boost" on the Spider series amplifier? Spider I, II, and III: The Spider Distortion Boost is activated by holding down the “tap tempo” button while rotating the “drive” control above the 12 o'clock position. The B light will illuminate to indicate that the boost is active. Spider IV: The boost feature can be edited by pressing the presets encoder, then using the right/left function on the four-way arrow selector to select “boost”. You can then activate the feature, increase or decrease the amount of boost (up to 8 db), and select “pre” and/or “post”. This can be activated from the FBV Shortboard MK II by the “fucntion 1” button, and the Effect Loop button the FBV Shortboard (Mk I). Q: How do I operate the Noise Gate on the Spider series amplifier? Spider III: Press and hold Tap as you turn the Reverb knob up past twelve o’clock, and you turn on a built-in Noise Gate, which helps to cut down on hiss and noise. When you do this, the Channel D LED comes on to indicate that the Gate is on. Spider IV: The Noise Gate feature can be edited by pressing the “presets” encoder, then using the right/left function on the four-way arrow selector to select “gate”. You can then choose from “Off”, “Gate”, “Noise Reduction”, or “Gate + Noise Reduction”. Use the up/down arrows to select Threshold and Decay, which are adjustable with the Presets encoder. Q: Is there a way to control the amount of effect mix repeats the delay effect makes? Spider I, II, and III: we decided to remove some of the editing capabilities and make it as simple as possible. In addition, we wanted to make it as affordable as possible, and removing some of the edit features was one of the ways that we were able to keep the cost lower. This being the case, you cannot change the delay feedback rate on the Spider. Spider IV: The delay repeats (feedback) can be edited by pressing the presets encoder, turning to “FX3”, the using the up/down arrows to “FdBk”. You can then increase or decrease the amount of feedback by turning the preset encoder, as well as the delay time and mix. Q: Every time I switch to a certain amp model the delay comes on - how can I stop this? Spider I, II, and III: When you select an Amp Model, the Spider automatically sets its tone controls and effects to match that Amp Model. You can disable the auto-FX selection (but not tone control auto-selection), by powering up Spider with the Channel D/Insane button held. Be aware that the auto-selection is re-enabled next time you power up. If you absolutely never want to hear a particular effect (such as delay), you can turn the SmartFX knob to 'Off', then press and hold a channel button until it blinks, and you've saved a new version of the sound, without any effects. Spider IV: The Auto effect feature can be enabled by pressing the presets encoder, then using the right/left function on the four-way arrow selector to select “autoFX”. You can then activate the feature, as well as turn the tap light on/off and set the timer for the display backlight. Q: Why does the tap tempo light always blink? Can I turn the tap tempo light off? Spider I, II, and III 75-150: The tap tempo light shows the tempo of the delay, even if the delay is not active. There is no way to disable the tap tempo light on the Spider I, II, or III Series amplifiers. Spider IV 75-150: The tap tempo light is assignable to the modulation and delay effects, and shows the tempo of the assigned effect. The tap feature can be enabled by pressing the presets encoder, then using the right/left function on the four-way arrow selector to select your effect, then using the up/down arrow to locate “tap”. The tap feature can be enabled or disabled by turning the “presets” encoder, then using the right/left function on the four-way arrow selector to select”setup”. You can then use the up/down arrows to locate “Taplite”, and de-activate the tap light feature by turning the preset encoder. Q: Can I connect my Spider series combo amp (i.e. 15, 30, 75, 120) to an external speaker cabinet? A: No, as there is no external speaker jack to power an external cabinet. The Spider series 150 combo amplifier does have two 8 ohm external speaker outputs that will mute the internal speakers when engaged. See the following link for more cabinet connection information: Line 6 Head and Cabinet Connections Q: How can I record direct the Spider series amp signal directly into a computer? A: You can use the headphone jack as a direct line out to record your Spider series amplifier into any line input on your computer's sound card or audio interface. For sound card connection, you will need a cable with one male stereo 1/4" jack on one end-to plug into the headphone jack of the Spider, and a male 1/8" stereo mini jack-like (the kind on Ipod type headphones) to plug into the sound card. This will work for most computer sound cards, as they often have 1/8" stereo mini inputs and outputs. If you have an audio interface or a professional sound card that have multiple 1/4" inputs, you will need a cable with one male 1/4" TRS (stereo) jack on one end, and two male 1/4" mono jacks on the other end (commonly known as an “insert cable”) to create a stereo image. Take care in setting the output level on your amp: adjust the master volume to get the cleanest and most noise-free sound when the volume control on the toolbar of your computer is on full, with the volume control on your computer speakers set to normal, reasonable listening levels. If you set the output level on your amp too high, the sound will be undesirably distorted. Set it too low and the sound will be noisy. All you need then is some sort of recording software, of which there are many options available. Q: Is there a way to use the POD-Style Out (headphone) jack without disabling the speakers? A: There is no supported way to run both the speakers and the headphone jack at the same time. Q: Can I use an external effects pedal or processor with a Spider series amplifier? A: Effects pedals will almost always work well in front of the Spider series amplifiers. Just be certain that the output level of the external effect is not set too high as it could overload the input of the Spider. Most rack-mount processors are designed for line level use and often don't sound quite right when connected to the front of an amplifier. Q: Can I use a MIDI controller with a Spider amp? A: The Spider series amplifiers do not have MIDI In or Out connections, but the Spider Valve Mark II does have MIDI jacks. We recommend that you use the correct Line 6 controller with your Spider series amplifier. Q: Do any of the Spider Series amplifiers have an effects loop? A: The Spider series (I, II, III, IV) amplifiers are not equipped with an effects loop, but the Spider Valve (I or II) series does have an effect loop. Q: Can I edit/backup my Spider sounds on my computer? A: The Spider IV series amplifier can be edited with the Spider IV Edit Software. The previous Spider series (I, II, III) tone editing must be done on the face of the unit, as there is no computer editor for the earlier Spider series. See the following link for more information on the Spider Edit software: Spider IV Edit (v1.02) FAQs Q: Which controller will work with my Spider series amp? Controller compatibility chart Q: Where can I get replacement knobs/speakers/logos for my Spider amplifier?
