  1. Hello everyone, I wanted to ask for some help with a setup I want to achieve. I've searched the forums for my answer but haven't seen anyone want what I'm trying to do. Disclaimer - I'm not new to guitar or pedals but I am a noob with expression pedals. I want to hook up my Dunlop DVP4 mini expression pedal AND a single momentary (unlatched) button external footswitch (see attached example pic) to the HX Stomp expression jack (EXP 1/2, FS 4/5). My Goal is to use the expression for whatever I need and to set the external FS4 to toggle between stomp modes (bank, preset, snapshot, and pedals) because for some reason you can't make FS3 do this function. My question is does the HX stomp allow for this type of setup, and if so what cables do I need to get to make this happen (need to go buy them as I only have a single TRS cable at the moment). The jack can be used for both expression and footswitches but it does not mention if you can cross the two. I've confirmed my Dunlop DVP4 works well with the HX stomp so we're good there. My guess: (reminder of me being a noob with expression pedals) Looks like I need a Y Cable (TRS to two TS connections) - I was thinking this one https://ebssweden.com/content2/accessories/patch-cables-connectors/ But I do not know for sure that approach works. Thanks in advance for any guidance!
  2. Hello all I want to use Harley Benton midi foot controller with HX https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_mp_100_midi_foot_controller.htm Will I have any issue with using it? Will it allow me to use 4 expression pedals? 2 on hx and 2 on midi foot controller? I’m not very switched on with midi talk but will be able to program easy enough as I like to get deep and dirty with set up. The reason for the change is I play bass clarinet and it’s difficult to bend down with my instrument to change effects on the fly and want to have my board at hand height to and control hx with foot controller. Before I had the hx I had a loop switcher to be able switch stuff on and off from the floor and tweak at waist/hand height. any help is appreciated
  3. What Expression Pedal works with Line6 HX Effects? I like to work with effects from 0% till 100% without any isues The Line6 EX-1 ? The Roland EV-5 Expression Pedal doesn’t do the job apparently, goes to 60%, no matter what I do. Never had problems with the classic Line6 Delay Pedal with the same Roland EV-5 Pedal is there a bug in the Line6 HX Effects about the expressionpedal topic? Seems there are more people to suffer with this topic.
  4. I want the expression pedal to control by Exp2 the position parameter of a wah block going from 0-100% using the full range of the pedal. Instead of this the range is limited e.g. 0-35%. I am using a Boss EV-30 which I connected by a stereo cable. Exp1 should switch the wah off on 0%. I played with the minimum knob of the pedal and all the settings of the HXstomp. Nothing helped. Perhaps someone could give me his wah settings?

  6. I cant get reverb spill over to work. If you are familiar with the Solid Gold FX Surf Rider pedal, you'll know that you can control the reverb depth via an expression pedal. This is awesome because you can make on the fly adjustments to the depth of the reverb. Also, the reverb that is generated, is not affected by subsequent expression pedal adjustments. It's just "spills over". Great for on the fly reverb stabs. Demonstrated here: https://youtu.be/wcOtj6weHHM?t=205 Is there any way to do this with the Helix? I've tried mapping Reverb Block Depth and Mix controls to my expression with Trails set to "on" but, no matter what I do, adjusting the expression pedal affects the Depth/Mix of previously generated reverb which deletes the spill over effect. I've also tried doing this with an outboard reverb through the effects loop thinking I could adjust the mix there but, same thing. Trails works fine when bypassing the verb but, I cant get spill over to work. Has anybody found a way to do this? Thankyou.
  7. Long time listener, first time caller. I picked up the HXFX recently, getting modern after some years with an HD500, and I'm happy with my decision. Today, though, I picked up a cheap M-Audio expression pedal. When I tested it in store, it seemed to be working fine - the polarity was reversed, even when I flicked that little switch on the back, but I can deal with that by flipping the min and max. What I can't deal with is the fact that switching presets renders the expression pedal totally useless! The only way to get it working again is to turn the unit off and on again - not ideal. There were loads of opinions about which expression pedal to get and plenty of it was over my head. Does anybody know why this pedal isn't working? Can anybody recommend a better one that works consistently? I've got gigs! Thanks, team!
  8. Hi all I'm looking to expand my HX Stomp functionality with an expression pedal (or two). I'm not looking for brand recommendations but the following; Both the Line 6 & Mission Engineering pedals have 10k ohm linear pots in them but I've read on various sites (in researching for HX and Eventide H9 use) that value isn't a given and others say it is. So my question is has anyone had experience using an expression pedal with a 20k ohm pot in it with their Line 6 & other units and does it make any real difference between the two values? Thanks, Ben
  9. Hello Line 6 Community I would like to know if it is possible to record my expression pedal movements from my helix into my Daw (Ableton). When I record my dry signal I need to simultaneously record my expression pedal movements into my daw as Midi cc Messages, to later be sent back into my helix to automate the movement of the expression pedal during playback. I know that it is possible to use the draw tool in Ableton to manually enter the position of the expression pedal, but this is extremely tedious since I constantly use the expression pedal throughout all my songs. and hard to manually enter since I use different speeds! I also want to be able to send this recorded midi information do my Digitech Bass Whammy Pedal which can receive midi messages. ( please line 6, add a DIGITECH BASS WHAMMY effect) If the Helix can't do this, do you know of a product that can??? Thank you.
  10. Howdy all Have seen a bunch of expression pedal posts; seems odd that it should be such a challenge to get third party, passive expression pedals to work with a multi effect unit in this day and age, but I digress. Below are some pics of the necessary mods to a Morley M2 in order to get it to play nice with the Helix. Essentially, you disconnect lead 3 from its correspondingly numbered jumper (someone please correct my terminology here), and connect lead 3 to lead/jumper 1. The warranty-voiding mod is shown along with my sloppy soldering in thosr pics with a small red wire in them. It's possible to secure the wire manually if you're extremely dexterous or have tiny little hands or what have you, but I found it to be a little bit of a tight space to solder in. Been a fan of Morleys for awhile - they're generally tough and I favor both their shape and height, but your foot may vary. Cheers - Dan
  11. Hi all, I know theres a million questions about the pedals not working on these boards, and a simple calibration always seems to solve it. I have just purchased an HD500X used, and the pedal seems to work intermittently. It will work pretty good for 5 minutes or so then just stop working entirely. I have tried calibrating it, but when it goes to testing it the scale just sits at 0 instead of moving through to 255. I can not get it to register any sort of input at this point. Any ideas on what could be causing it, if it is hardware or software related? Any responses and advice are much appreciated!
  12. Two weeks a go I was using my FBV3 in regular way with the spider remote , then the app shows a message saying : Expression Pedal Auto-Reassign With this model change, the expression pedal assignment is no longer valid. It has been set to Sensitivity. Later the expression pedal stops working, on wha and volume. Somebody knows if it's the pedal or the update?.
  13. Hi guys, I wanna utilize both foot switches on an FS-6 connected to my HX Stomp, and use an expression pedal as a Wah or volume pedal. A) Is that possible? ..and if so: Which expression pedal type do I need? B) How do I connect? and finally; C) How do I configure the whole shabam on the HX Stomp? Crossing my fingers for some hard expertise! Lars, Norway,
  14. Hi all, New HX Effect user here, first post. It seems there have been many threads regarding the quirks with the expression pedal but I haven't seen this one yet. My issue is that the expression pedal position seems to be affected by the state of another block - namely the Ext Amp control. When the Ext. amp button is off (clean channel on amp), the heel position only returns to 3%, not 0. When ON (overdrive) it does return to 0. This is especially problematic with whammy effects... I expect the heel position to be the unaffected note, but it's 3% sharp. I'm using a line6 EX-1 expression pedal connected with a short TS patch cable. I've tried to swap cables, same result. The result is also the same whether the amp is connect through the EXP 2 jack or not so it's not a grounding issue there. I suspect it may be an interference issue between the 2 EXP/Amp jacks? Anyone else experiencing this? I could make a short video to demonstrate. Thanks
  15. Hi, My HD500 expression pedal doesn't work. It switches between Exp1 and Exp2 (have to push it very hard though), but it doesn't affect VOLUME\PAN settings in presets. I tried to update flash (2.62), rollback flash (2.31), and god knows how many times I tried ro calibrate the pedal: 1) power off the Pod Hd500 2) press Right Arrow 3) power on the Pod Hd500 4) press View to show the Pedal Cal line 5) set the pedal to min position, press A, got 100 on Duty 6) set pedal to max position, press B, got 100 on Duty again 7) press C Here in manuals the reaction from 0 to 255 is expected when pedal is moving, but nothing, it's still 0. After that I press D, power off\on the device and crying in distress. Is this sofware trouble or I should go to a fix guy? If latter, what shoud I tell him?
  16. I am currently building an HX effects into a rack for someone. They will be using 4 cable at the amp. For the most part the drive will be coming from the amp but, they were asking if they could have 1 boost in front of the amp that they could click off/on from the front of stage. All that will currently be at the front of stage is a Voodoo Lab Commander. This will only have MIDI to the HX Effects. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a switch that can be run to the expression jack that can be assigned to an effect. I've so far tested a regular switch and a hard switch, both TS/TRS and nothing seems to work. I see that Mission has a pedal that has a toe switch (not sure if that's Helix/Stomp only) but, I don't need an expression pedal. Thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction of a product or the how-to (switch type, cable type, etc.)!
  17. hey, how can i create a snapshot, in which i have a volume pedal in the beginning, and when i press the toe-switch of the expression pedal i get a pitch wham effect (0 at heel-position, +12 at toe-position) ? I already tried it several times and it didn't work. most of the time both effects where at exp1 even if i assigned one effect to exp 2 ... probably an easy question for you pro's. thanks!
  18. So, this may be too much to want. I upgraded from the Helix LT to a Rack with the foot controller recently. When I had the LT, i had the built in exp pedal set to a pitch shifter and an external exp pedal set to volume controller. It was great. Well the Helix Foot Controller doesn't have a built in exp pedal (which is absolutely ridiculous since the floor board and LT do, but whatever.) So I'm just using my external pedal for the pitch shifter currently. Wondering if there's any possible way to have a foot switch toggle what the external pedal is using. Like click a switch and it overwrites what the default for the pedal is and clicking it again will revert back. I've tried messing around and couldn't ever get anything to work so in bot sure if something like that is even possible. I don't really NEED the volume control, so what I'm doing is fine. But it is pretty handy having it and I don't want to buy another external pedal just for the convenience of it. Thanks anyways
  19. So I decided I need to make a external pedal for the Helix so I can change settings or enable effects without being right in front of the Helix. Needed for bigger stages or stages with banks. Parts I used for this project 10k ohm linear potentiometer 10k ohm resistor 3PDT Switch Mini MTS-102 SPDT ON-ON switch Adafruit Perma-Proto Quarter-sized Breadboard Boss TU-2 cassis Jack inputs from the Boss TU-2 LED diode 470 ohm resistor for LED diode Wires Metal sheets for faceplate I started out with the cassis from an old Boss TU-2 that I mended a new faceplate for and sanded down to the metal. Having basic skills with soldering and electronics I decided to buy a finished breadboard to make things easier for me.Went with the Adafruit Perma Proto. Here is the schematic for the wiring. I used a 10k potentiometer and a 10k resistor with a two way selector switch to select if I want to use the potentiometer or the resistor. Basically making the pedal variable or 100% expression in the Helix. There is also a simple LED diode circuit connected to the 3PDT switch. I removed the old momentary switch from the Boss TU-2 pedal and replaced it with a 3PDT switch using the plastic washers from the 3PDT switch. Using some metal sheets from an old computer chassis I made a new faceplate for the Boss TU-2 chassis. Drilled seven holes in it for LED, pot, switch and mounting screws. Since this is the first prototype the wires are not cut to length and the breadboard isn't mounted to the chassis. (Sorry for the mess) Using the switch I can now change this pedal between being a type of expression pedal and being 0/100% expression pedal. The Helix sometimes glitches a bit while changing between the two modes making the potentiometer stop at everything between 60% and 90%. Taking the jack out and plugging it back in again fixes that bug. All in all I think it turned out great! Link to album with photos from this post https://imgur.com/a/yQoIikU
  20. Greetings, Looking to duplicate a staple of my sound I have been doing with the Digitech Valve FX units since 1995. Unlike the POD XT CC expression control of Delay ‘level’ (and the DL4) with my older Digitech units I can turn the delay on or of with Control One footboard switch engaging it at a low delay level and use expression pedal to fluidly wash between the lowest setting and a full lush delay. When I rock the exp pedal back to heel position the trails from the toe position finish their cycle and are not CUT OFF. Both the DL4 and the POD XT do not seem to be able to do this at all - so my concern is the ‘Mix’ or ‘Level’ parameters for the delays on the HX FX will be equally dissapointing. They both cut off the trails and level of the high range of the effect pulling back to heel position abruptly in a non musical way. So - basically Im used to having midi CC that works as a ‘send’ - pushing the dry signal into the effect which doesnt cut off trails when pulling back the ‘send’ level. I control delay level & feedback in this way with all the incremental levels I ever need from delay in one CC exp pedal. I’m seriously interested in HX FX with my BluGuitar Amp1 4 cable method and hope someone can fully clear this up as I have to drive an hour or more to get my hands on one to test. THANK YOU.
  21. Hi guys! This is my first post on this forum, and unfortunately it's not very positive. I think the known issue with the expression pedal on Helix LT happened and with my unit now. The expression pedal doesn't work as expected anymore. I can clearly see a movement (displacement) of the chassis inside the unit. The pedal squeaks when I press it by my foot and sometimes gets stuck during movement. Today this squeaking got quite destructive during a quiet part of the worship service when I played swells. I've been using the pedal only for a few months so far but the unit itself is out of seller warranty (Long & McQuade). I've already submitted a support ticket, though. Would appreciate any ideas about how to get it fixed. Youtube video:
  22. I can't find a way, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the master volume with the pedal. If I have a loop going at the end of a stong, it would be great to fade it out with the volume pedal.
  23. Hi All, First time to post here as I really couldn't find an answer to my issue. I'm using an HX Effects with a dunlop dvp4 mini volume and expression pedal. I connected a trs cable into the aux and pedal 1 of the HX effects to control my wah position or whammy mix position. I did the learn thing, and actually the expression pedal is controlling the right parameters. However, my issue is that the heel position is correct (always 0% on whatever is being controlled), but once i get to the maximum toe position, it goes back to 0% position or what the heel position was doing. I noticed that the peak is somewhere at 70% of toe position. to clarify please see below example. Example on Wah (position vs. sound heard): max heel = bassier sound of a wah 70% of toe = treble sound of a wah max toe (100%) = back to bassier sound of a wah Example on whammy (position vs. sound heard): max heel = 0%mix of whammy sound 70% of toe = 100%mix of whammy sound max toe (100%) = 0%mix of whammy sound Can someone please advise what to do on this issue, I just need a linear relation between heel to toe vs. 0% to 100% wah position, or 0% to 100% mix on some parameters. Thanks in advance!
  24. The integrated expression on my LT pedal broke down. I already contacted my dealer and my LT is hopefully going to be repaired soon. In the meantime I bought a YAMAHA FC7 expression pedal to do the job. It works fine, I just had to switch the polarity. I have the EXP 2/ EXT AMP control set to EXP 2 in on every preset. But every time i switch a patch Helix forgets the external pedal. I have to go through the global menu and "refresh" the EXP 2/ EXT AMP setting to get it work. This is extremely annoying during a live setup. Could not figure a workaround for this.
  25. Hello! I own an Helix floor and I'm looking for an external expression pedal in order to drive whammy effects amon others. I plan buying a Boss FV-500L. What do you think about this plan? Will it work weel with helix floor? If so, should I connect it to Helix with a TS cable? Thanks!
