  1. Hello All, I am a fairly new Helix Floor and Helix Native owner and am wanting to purchase one or two Mission Engineering expression pedals for wah and other effects while using the built-in Helix expression pedal for volume. There appears to be two different models that are offered for Line 6 products (SP1-L6H and the EP1-L6). The only difference I can tell is the ability to use the toe switch to turn the effect(s) on and off. This is exactly what I am looking to do, but the SP1-L6H only seems to be fully-functional with the Helix Rack. The EP1-L6 appears to be for other Line 6 products without the toe switch feature. Since the SP1-L6H is designed specifically for the Helix, will I be able to use this pedal to turn wah on and off without having to dedicate the a stomp button on the Helix Floor itself? My assumption is no since there is not an expression pedal switch input on the Helix Floor. Just want to to confirm. I appreciate anyone's help. Thank you. Thanks, David
  2. So here's the scenario in a nutshell: I am playing live at church in front of several hundred people. I have one patch set up with the expression pedal controlling the volume for swells. The song ends and I move the expression pedal to the full heel position to mute the guitar. I change to another patch for next song, in which I have the expression pedal assigned to control the mix level of the octo-reverb. The drummer counts us off and I go to start the opening line and I have nothing - no volume whatsoever. So I start frantically waving at the sound guy while pointing to my guitar thinking he may have leaned on the mute button - he looks over the board and shrugs. I go back to the previous patch with the volume pedal and still nothing. I work the volume pedal back and forth, and eureka - there it is! I switch back to the patch with the octo-reverb and I have full volume. Is there a setting I'm overlooking that will prevent this in the future? Am I saving my tones with the expression pedal in the wrong position or something? This is the second time I've been hosed in a live situation by this. I have also played outdoors and been hosed by the sunlight freaking out the optical trigger, but that's something I can live with as I just throw a rag over the expression pedal.
  3. Hey Guys, I am having issues with the expression pedal. For some reason, I can never get it to reach 100%, it's not so bad when using it for gain/volume, wah, or when programming it to modify bass/treble levels or stuff like that. But when using it for Pitch shift/whammy, if I am not able to reach the exact octave, it sounds terrible (as if I am always off tune) I usually activate the whammy while using the expression pedal's toe switch. The weird thing is this: when I turn off/on the Helix LT, at first, if I use solely the whammy, it works well... (I reach 100%) If I turn on/off any other pedal, before or even after I use the Whammy, then when I go back to the whammy, it becomes offset to 98-99%. I thought it was a physical issue, but it seems to be an internal midi instruction issue. Anyone noticed the same thing?
  4. Hi guys, I don't know if this is the case for you guys, but when I assign a parameter to the Helix's Expression Pedal... let's say I want EXP1 to control the drive of an overdrive effect... I have to continuously move up and down the pedal to hear the differences in the tweak I am making. (It does not change as I turn the knob) Also, when I'm in the view mode of my effect, I can see behind brackets [3.0] (in white) the setting for the expression pedal.... but If I try to tweak it from there, it does not work, I have to go back to the expression assign menu. This is like one HUGE step behind my POD HD which allowed me to do all of the above without any issue (so much quicker to tweak your settings) Is there an option somewhere that would allow me to set things up in a more "live" mod?
  5. NOTE: Please be aware that this is NOT for the Helix LT. The instructions contained in the document below illustrate how to resolve loosening and squeaking that may be encountered with your Helix® floor processor's built-in expression pedal. Line 6 recommends that this maintenance be performed by an Authorized Service Center. Please note that while opening your Helix to perform this maintenance does not void your warranty, attempting this procedure yourself is done at the risk of potentially damaging the unit. Helix_Expression_Pedal_Troubleshooting_Instructions_Rev_A.pdf The procedure is demonstrated in the following video: Line 6 recommends that this maintenance be performed by an Authorized Service Center. Please note that while opening your Helix to perform this maintenance does not void your warranty, attempting this procedure yourself is done at the risk of physical harm or death and/or potentially damaging the unit. Please note that for those of you in New Zealand/Australia, the unit is classified as a Class I appliance with an IEC mains power input. This means that if you choose to repair the unit yourself, you must have a licensed technician test and certify it as safe to use before it gets reconnected to the mains power. 6. Hello! I am trying to get an expression pedal to work on my m5 by going through a midi controller. Not sure where i'm going wrong. I am using an ex-1 > decibel 11/switch dr. (cc#1) > m5 via midi. I can change presets with no problem but can't get the expression pedal to work. Any ideas out there. Your ideas and time are greatly appreciated!!
  7. My expression pedal will work fine in most of my 6 Scenes, but there are 2 where it refuses to effect any parameters in any of the FX. Is my M9 broken? Any ideas? Thanks in advance... ~ LL ~
  8. I'm Interested in buying a Pod HD 500 X, but i didn't have the chance to try these tricks yet... so I'm wondering if is it possible to create the following effects for use them live... 1 - Autofilter or High cut Filter Sweep, maybe assigning an Eq to the Exp Pedal??? ( example at 4:45 ) 2 - Auto pan, and maybe set the speed with the tap/tempo??? ... or do I need extra pedals, or tools?
  9. If you're using the FBV 3, or the FBV Shortboard MKII with the Spider V series, you have the option of utilizing an external expression pedal. The external pedal would be plugged into the EXP Pedal jack on the FBV. This is how they interact with the Spider V's patches. On patches without tweak assign to pedal, the external pedal becomes volume, the on-board pedal controls wah position, and toe switch toggles wah bypass. On patches with tweak assigned to pedal, the external pedal controls the tweak-assigned parameter. The on-board pedal controls volume and wah, and the toe switch toggles between wah and volume control.
(Google translate) Hello people!, recently my brother bought the HD400 and this happened: Yesterday I was playing for a while and the only thing I did was change presets with the buttons up and down, later, the presets don't sound. Some of them was heard but it was because the Wah was activated. Entering other questions I fixed the calibration of the pedal, and it turns out that the pedal itself is not working. When I calibrate it, I press the foot switch and the next step I have to put it in the minimum and then at the maximum, it does not. Then when I change the preset the volume is always at a minimum, because the pedalboard is not taking the pedal operation :S Any solution? I Update the firmware, then restore the factory and then the caliber. Gracias, espero tener ayuda! Thanks!
  11. First of all, loving my M9. Probably the wisest gear decision I've made thus far. It's straddling across two parallel/true stereo fx chains so I'm even considering getting a second one for more flexibility... But I digress. So yes, when I bought my M9 I already knew that the M Audio EX-P doesn't play well with M-Series pedals... but I don't understand why this is so, and whether I can fix the issue without having to buy yet another expression pedal. Is the EX-P's design unusual? Does it need to be TS instead of TRS? Would it work if I rewired it to TS (mono) or added an adapter on the end of the cable to convert TRS to TS? Has anyone experimented with this? Here is what I've discovered thus far about using an EX-P with an M9: 1) The Line6 M9 Pilot's Handbook states that "Expression Pedal 1 + 2 - Compatible with standard expression pedals including the Line6 EX-1 ... The Line6 EX-1 expression pedal is a passive 10k linear taper pot, using a standard 1/4 inch mono instrument cable." 2) The M Audio EX-P is a popular passive 10k linear taper pot expression pedal with a TRS output (ie. not mono) that I've had pleasant experiences with prior to buying the M9. Measured it on a scope to have an actual range from heel-down T-R @ 12.9k, toe-down T-R @ 1.0k (ie. 11.9k range). Also just in case it matters - heel T-S @ 53.9k to toe T-S @ 65.7k and heel R-S @ 64.7k to toe R-S @ 64.7k. 3) The M Audio EX-P doesn't work properly with the Line6 M9, as mentioned here: http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/19057/ and verified by my testing. The EX-P can be assigned to actuate parameters in the M9 but tops out/bottoms out early. It won't move the parameter for its full range. Eg. If I assign it to a wah FREQ it stops well short of maximum upper freq. If I assign it to MIX then it mixes neither fully wet nor fully dry. If I switch the EX-P polarity I have to re-assign the parameters but it behaves exactly the same. Any ideas? Cheers H
  12. I've had an issue with Mission SP1-L6H Expression Pedals, specifically in regard to volume blocks. When assigned as a volume pedal (in my case, it's connected with a single TS cable to EXP1 on Helix Rack), A 100% parameter value will drop to 0% randomly without the pedal being touched. This, of course, results in a complete loss of output, which has made for some pretty awkward moments on stage. To troubleshoot, I used multiple brand new cables as well as a few different Helix Rack units. After determining my first Mission pedal was the issue, I got a replacement from Sweetwater. To my surprise, the new unit had the same issue. I reached out to Mission, but they said there weren't any other reports of this happening. At this point, it's too late to get a refund, so my Mission pedal is just collecting dust now. I recently purchased a Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) and I'm using it (Polarity reversed) with my Helix and I've had no issues whatsoever. It's very possible that I just received two faulty Mission units, but I have a feeling it's just an inherent issue with the pedals. I'm hoping someone could help shed some light on the issue.
  13. Snapshots do not store or recall the EXP 1 and 2 assignment. So when you engage the Toe Switch, the onboard pedal switches between EXP 1 and EXP 2 assignment, but Snapshots do not account for that since they only store the Wah or Volume blocks On/Off bypass state. There is a workaround however. You can connect a pedal to Helix's EXP 2 jack (or even just a dummy 1/4 plug in the jack) that forces the onboard pedal to remain always as EXP 1, thus it won't change and the Snapshots are recalled as expected.
  14. Hi all! I've recently been experimenting with different options for an external exp pedal for my hd500x. I've tried both the EX1 line 6 pedal, and the mission engineering pedal. The ex1 lasted for only about a dozen gigs and rehearsals, then failed and was unfixable. I'm heavy footed and gig alot (80-100 gigs and rehearsals a year average) so the ex1 is not an option. The mission pedal is a much better pedal overall, but I don't like the travel of the pedal to use as a volume. Basically, neither of these work for me, and I'm not interested in an external wah. The on board exp pedal is currently doing triple duty as my volume, wah and whammy controller. I would like to free it up for mostly just wah and whammy; the external pedal will take over volume control duties. The primary function of the external exp pedal will be for min/max volume control in a live setting; mostly for rhythm to lead volume, and occasionally for fx control. I've been checking the forum archives and have seen that some folks have used other brands of expression pedals with varying degrees of success, such as the Boss fv500 series, etc. Anyone here have any experience using other expression pedals besides the ex1 or the mission? Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Just got my new HELIX and I'm loving it. One issue I'm having trouble with is figuring out how assign my reverb's mix parameter to the expression pedal. I play at my church and love the idea of being able to increase and decrease reverb mix quickly and easily without having to bend over and tweak my boss rv-5 like I've been doing. The issue seems to be that when I go into command center and assign the mix control to the expression pedal, the pedal will not only control the mix, but also the decay. Somehow both parameters are assigned to the controller. While it makes sense to pair these 2, I'd like to keep my decay long and just bring the mix down. Is this possible?
  16. Hello Line6 forum, I'm Phil from Lunatic Man's Dream!. I am looking for a effect unit that can deliver the following specs: - Wahwah sound controllable via expression pedal. So I don't need to run audio cable to my pedalboard but only control cables to switch my rack. - I want to be able, to turn that effect off by putting the pedal to "zero-position" OR by an integrated footswitch(like in Dunlop pedals). Depending on the way, the unit makes that possible, I choose a fitting expression pedal. Does the M5 work this way or do i have to programm special midi presets for having the wah turned on or off? Best regards, Phil
  17. I've run in to a problem that I can't seem to fix: I'm trying to customize the scribble strip over the expression pedal ("wah" for example, or "vol - wah") and it will let me enter the text, and I can save it, but if I change to a different preset and then come back to the edited one it goes back to "exp1 exp2". Any ideas?
  18. Can anyone reccomend a definitive 'best option' for extra expression pedals for the helix? I have the helix pedal version not the rack and have ordered a roland ev-5 for an extra expression pedal but am now worried that theres no toe switch on the ev-5 so wont be able to use switching on it? I also wondered if anyone could shed any light on the possibility of being able to use the Helix Control floorboard for the rack, but with the pedal version?? I use quite a lot of switches for signal paths stuff, like between multiple amps and IR's/cabs so doesn't leave much room for actual effects switching?? Thanks in advance!!
  19. I have a Spider IV 120 and a FBV Shortboard MKII. The FBV is connected to my computer via USB and I'm using the Line 6 FBV Control software. I want to assign the built in expression pedal that is typically controlling volume on my Spider or the external expression pedal "PEDAL 2" to whatever it is that controls the "FX3" "Mix" parameter on the Spider. In other words, I want to control the level of the mix parameter on the delay effect via one of those continuous controllers. I see things in the list like "002 - Breath Control" and "080 General Control 8", but which one of those things controls that delay mix parameter, and where do I look that up for the Spider IV 120? See attached screenshot. Thanks in advance for any help you offer!
  20. HD500, with a Source Audio Hot Hand 3 controller. I've been using this setup for at least a year now, but I only just noticed a bit of crackle when playing through headphones. I unplugged the patch cord from the HH3, but left it powered on, and the sound disappeared. Also unplugged power from the HH3, and left it plugged into exp2. No noise. All power cords are far removed from each other, and I did use new patch cords, instrument cables for the exp2 connection. No other variables got rid of the crackle besides powering down and/or removing the HH3. Is anyone else experience noise when using a powered expression pedal?
  21. Don't do anything! It auto calibrates. If you're having trouble getting the pedal to stay at 0% it might be due to the tension being too loose. Try tightening it with the provided hex wrench.
  22. Hi, I've been a BOSS user for the past 10 years, mastering every aspect Of the GT MultiFX line. I'm in the process of transitioning to The HD500x to expand and experiment with the LINE6 workflow. I bought one already but it won't arrive until next week. I would like to know if it's possible to attach a dual footswitch. According to the manual, I can plug an expression pedal into the "pedal 2" jack, but I don't need another one besides the built-in EXP. In the past, I used to plug a BOSS FS6 via TRS cable to the "CTL1,2/EXP" jack of the GT8, allowing me to freely program parameters to either of the footswitch buttons (labeled CTL 1 and 2 in the system). The GT8 allowed me to assign modes: latching or unlatching –to operate as on/off for effects– or min/max for specific parameter jumps. I believe the POD allows similar functionalities with the top row switches; nevertheless, I would want to use the BOSS FS6 with the HD500X. Has anyone done this?
  23. Hi folks. Totaly newbie at this (like many I'd presume, being as it's so new). I've tried plugging my expression pedal into both of the available expression pedal jacks and powering on the unit. Then selecting a wah and setting the controller to be the corresponding one for whichever jack I'd plugged into. No luck with either jack - nothing appears to be detected about my expression pedal. It works fine with my Moog Minifooger OD pedal, so it's not just a defective expression pedal. And it claims that it's a generic expression pedal that will work with pretty much anything: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/moog-ep-3-universal-expression-pedal Is there some sort of configuration I need to do that I have overlooked? Thanks in advance for any assistance!
  24. So the helix has two exp jacks on the back. On my MFC-101 (Axefx) I have an Erine Ball vp Jr. That I modified to have a Mission latching switch so I can engage/disengage my wah but I need two expression jacks to utilize the Axefx wah function: one switch for engage and one switch for wah sweep. Am I going to need both of Helix exp jacks just for a wah? I'm going to try to use the onboard exp first but I am imagining not liking it because it's on the right side of the board and it seems kinda ...petite... It would be very cool to have a left footed version of this beast! I know it's maybe wired but I simply prefer my left foot for vol.wah.exp.whammy.... Thanks!
  25. Hi everyone, I'm still reasonably new to the Line 6 world so bear with me. I have a AMPLIFi 150 and a Shortboard MKII which I use when my iPad isn't nearby to switch between presets, etc. My question is, can I use a Mission Engineering Expression pedal (say as a wah?) with the AMPLIFi + shortboard? I have it attached to the MKII but I don't know how (or if?) the AMPLIFi will recognize it? Thanks!
