A: A factory reset on the POD HD is performed by re-installing the Flash Memory using the Line 6 Monkey utility. Please ensure to connect the POD HD to a PC or Mac computer via USB 2.0 ports. A: Press and hold the VIEW button to the left of the LCD screen on the POD HD to enter the SETUP pages of the POD. Press the Left and Right arrow buttons on the 4 Way Nav to access all of the SETUP pages where you can set your inputs, outputs, MIDI settings and more. Q: How do I reset the global settings of the POD HD? A: Press and hold the Left Arrow button on the 4 Way Nav as you power on the POD HD. This reset resets the global settings back to factory defaults and also renames the Set Lists to factory as well. NOTE: This DOES NOT reset the presets of the POD HD. That requires re-installing the flash memory using Line 6 Monkey. (Same as Factory Reset above.) Q: How should I set the OUTPUT MODE on the POD HD? A: The OUTPUT MODE can be set in PAGE 4 of the global settings pages. NOTE: This setting affects ALL of the outputs of the POD HD: 1/4" unbalanced L/R outputs, the headphones output, and the USB record sends 1-2 into your computer. OUTPUT MODES Studio Direct: For connecting “Direct” to a mixing console (PA) or recording device. Also, this is the best setting for using headphones or monitor speakers. Combo and Stack Settings: These 4 options are all designed to optimize your tone for connecting to an external amplifier. The signal includes "Live' Cab Models, with no Mic Model or "AIR" convolution, with a special EQ curve added for each. Combo Front and Stack Front - For connecting the output of the POD HD into the front input of a typical combo amp or amp head + external cab, respectively. When choosing either of these Modes, you will see additional optional for further tone shaping. Combo Power Amp and Stack Power Amp - For connecting the output of the POD HD into the power amp or Effects Return of a combo or head amp. Ensure to set the Master Output of the POD HD to to a high output setting for this output mode. Use this setting to bypass the front preamp of your amplifier to use the POD as the digital preamp being fed directly into the power amp section of the amp. NOTE: If plugging into the effects return of an amp, set any loop level controls to 100% if available. May get lower output in amps with parallel effects loops by design. Sometimes, you may need to insert a dummy 1/4" into the amps input to make this connection work. Q: Which foot controllers are compatible with the POD HD desktop device? A: The FBV Shortboard Mk II will give you access to the most features of the POD HD by providing you the ability to access all of the presets within the Set Lists' of the POD along with giving the ability to toggle all effects on/off, control over the built-in looper, tuner enable/disable, and the ability to program the Expression Pedal(s) to control parameters of the amps and effects on the POD HD. You can use the FBV Express Mk II pedal for changing between presets, tuner, and expression pedal control. With either pedal, to create and edit Foot Switch assignments, select the desired FX or Amp Block within the Signal Flow View, then hold the Enter button. This displays the FS ASSIGN screen. All assignments are saved per Preset. Q: How do I enable the Wah effect with the expression pedal of FBV controllers when connected to the POD HD? A: When you assign a wah effect (or any other effect) to be toggled on/off by the Expression Pedal Toe Switch of the FBV controller, in order to physically enable or disable the effect, you must press down hard on the front toe portion of the expression pedal. You must use a good amount of pressure pressing down on the toe of the expression pedal which makes it difficult to do with your hand. Place the pedal on the floor and press down hard on the toe of the expression pedal with your foot. You should see the green Volume light change to red WAH (or vice versa). Q: How long is the looper on the POD HD? A: At full speed, the looper has 24 seconds total looping time. In 1/2 Speed Mode, the looper has 48 seconds total looping time. Q: What is the new TWEAK knob for on the POD HD? A: Controls amp or effect parameters that are assigned to TWEAK in the CONTROLLER ASSIGN screen as you would with expression pedal of an FBV controller. Select the desired amp or FX block, then doouble-press the MOVE button to enter the CONTROLLER ASSIGN screen. Q: What are Set Lists and how do I access them? A: The POD HD stores up to 64 presets within each of the 8 Set Lists. Press the PRESETS knob to display the Set Lists screen. Use the 4 Way Nav, or turn the PRESETS knob to select any Set List, then press the ENTER button. This immediately loads the selected Set List, making all its presets available. Q: How do I manage the presets and settings of the POD HD on my computer? A: Download and install the POD HD Edit software to edit or create the presets of the POD HD on your computer. You can store the presets of your POD HD to your computer, and load presets from your computer that you create or download from Customtone.com. (POD HD Preset section coming soon.) Q: Which external expression pedals can I use as EXP 2 with the FBV Shortboard POD HD? A: We recommend using the Line 6 EX-1 or the Mission Engineering EP1-L6 expression pedals. You can also use any other expression pedal containing a 10k Ohm Potentiometer. Expression pedals allow you to change stompbox controls using your feet so you can adjust the sound while you play. On the fly, you can modify the length of your delay time, dial up the reverb mix, or change the depth of your tremolo, or anything you program the expression pedal to control on the POD HD. Q: How do I assign an effect or amp block to be toggled with a foot switch of an FBV controller? A: In the Signal Flow screen, select the FX or Amp Block which you want assigned to one of your footswitches. Then Press and hold the ENTER button to display the Footswitch Assign screen. The Footswitch Assign page is display is similar to your Signal Flow view. Use Multi-function Knob 1 to select the footswitch to which you want this FX Block assigned. You can also just press the FS switch you would like to assign it to that amp or effect. NOTE: you can assign multiple FX Blocks to a single footswitch or Exp Pedal's "toe switch". You can reference the current Preset’s FX footswitch assignments by pressing the VIEW button to display the Performance View screen. Q: Does the XLR Mic input provide Phantom power for condenser microphones? A: No, the XLR Mic input does not provide Phantom power. You would need to use an external preamp to provide Phantom power to the condenser mic before connecting to the POD HD. Q: How do I calibrate the Expression Pedal of the FBV controller when connected to the POD HD? A: Please go over the following POD HD500 Pedal Calibration document for instructions on how to calibrate the expression pedal of an FBV controller when connected to a POD HD desktop device. The instructions are the same as for the POD HD500. Q: Does the POD HD desktop have Line 6 Link or MIDI connections? A: No, the POD HD desktop does not have physical connections to communicate via L6 Link or MIDI. Q: What Sample rates does the POD HD Support?   3. ****If you recently purchased a Relay V75-SC Super Cardioid Microphone and that capsule does not have microphone models when placed on another XDV-75 handheld microphone body, then you will need to update the firmware on that handheld microphone to version 2.10. Instructions for updating Line 6 wireless systems can be found in other Knowledge Base articles.**** Range XD-V 70/75 systems are rated at 300 feet under ideal conditions and the XD-V30 systems are rated at a 100 foot range. This ‘Open Air Wireless Range’ also known as ‘Line of Sight’, meaning the transmitter’s antenna must have a clear path to the receiver’s antenna and be reasonably free of interference. For best performance ‘Line of Sight’ should be maintained between the receiver’s antennas and the transmitter’s antennas. Radio waves travel in straight lines and do not go around corners. Barriers such as walls can impede the path of radio waves depending on the thickness and the type of construction. RF will not transmit efficiently through metal barriers. If you have aluminum siding or a metal roof, it is unlikely the RF signal will transmit through this barrier with much efficiency. When using wireless systems indoors you could experience a moderate reduction in range compared to outdoors depending on conditions. RF will not transmit through the earth so if the receiver is placed in the basement, and the earth or ground is obstructing the line of sight transmission, it will not receive the direct signal. Human bodies also absorb RF energy and can affect maximum range so remember to place your antennas accordingly. Avoid cupping the bottom of the handheld mic as it will block the antenna resulting in a loss of range. Another significant reduction of range can be expected if the receiver antennas for the XD-V systems are very close to other intentional radiators in the same frequency band such as Wi-Fi wireless access points. Using the XD-V70 with remote paddle antennas and separating the antennas by several feet can be an effective way to mitigate this condition. Interference Q: What is the difference between Analog and Digital wireless systems handling of interference? A: Since the XD-V wireless system is digital, it is able to ‘intelligently’ ignore all signals that are not specifically intended for it. As a result, no audible interference can be generated due to other RF signals occurring simultaneously with the XD-V RF signals. Additionally, the XD-V system utilizes a frequency diversity system in which four different RF frequencies are transmitted for each single audio channel. Only if there are errors or loss of signal on all four RF frequencies within a single transmission packet will an XD-V system mute. Loss of RF signal can be the result of trying to function at too great a distance, having unintentional transmitters too close to a receiver (near/far), or a significant amount of close-by RF signals within the same 2.4GHz range (Wi-Fi, microwave ovens, etc.). In all cases, the symptoms will be the same: reduction of RF LEDs on the front panel that indicate usable RF signal strength, followed by the audio signal muting. Once good enough RF signal is received again, the signal will unmute. Put simply, all forms of potential interference for the XD-V system will have the net effect of reducing the total usable distance for the system. If your application does not require maximum range, then typically little concern about other radio signals is required. If you intend to use your system at a distance, it is recommended that you ‘walk test’ your system in advance of an event to verify that sufficient RF signal is available to avoid mutes from occurring over the entire desired range. Output Level Q: Why does the level change when I swap an XD-V digital wireless with my old wireless system? A: XD-V digital wireless are designed to be the same as a wired mic and are "unity" at the receiver's output relative to input to the transmitter. Most other wireless systems have gain stages that amplify the signal above the mic level itself. This means there is no relationship between the input level to the transmitter and the output level of the receiver. If the gain has been turned up on your old system then you will likely notice a drop in level when you hot-swap with an XD-V. This is a simple ‘gain-structure’ issue and is not a measure of sound quality. So if you hot-swap an XD-V wireless with the same mic as the model you have selected you will not need to make any changes to your gain structure. If you are replacing an older wireless unit that has gain added, you will need to balance the trim (gain) controls on your mixer inputs to accommodate the ‘unity mic level’ of the XD-V. This is why mixer inputs have gain adjustments ‘¦ so you can properly match mic preamp gain to the input source. Remember, XD-V digital wireless is mic level output only and must be plugged into a mic level input and not a line level input. If the trim controls are calibrated on your input strips a gain of 25-30 dB will probably be in the ballpark with an average vocalist. Frequency/Channels Q: What is different about the XD-V systems compared to the XDR-955? A: The XD-V30/XD-V70 systems use a higher frequency (2.4 GHz) and operate on 6 or 12 channels respectively, rather than 5. The XD-V channels numbers do not correspond to 802.11 Wi-Fi channels however. Q: Can the XDR-955 microphone be used with the XD-V systems? A: Both systems run in completely different frequency ranges so they are not inter-compatible, but X2 and XD-V units can be used on the same stage (along with any other analog wireless systems) with no problems. Q: Are the Relay G-series components compatible with the XD-V series components (or vice versa)? A: Because they both operate in the same 2.4 GHz frequency range, they are compatible. Q: Do the XD-V digital wireless systems share channels with the Relay systems? A: Both XD-V systems share their first 6 channels with the Relay G30. The XD-V70 shares all 12 of its channels with the Relay G50 and G90 models. A total of up to 14 systems can potentially be combined if the V70 firmware has been updated. Batteries and Power Supplies Q: Can I use rechargeable batteries? A: Yes, but the hours and minutes are calibrated to alkaline batteries. Different battery chemistries discharge at different rates, therefore the battery meter reading may be inaccurate when alkaline batteries are not used. The run time will be directly related to the current capability of the batteries. Some experimentation will be necessary to determine how they perform for you. Carbon Zinc batteries should not be used with XD-V wireless systems. Q: Why is the battery meter higher when I restart than when I shut off the transmitter? A: Line 6 2.4G wireless transmitters have a circuit that measures the actual real-time voltage of the installed batteries and transmits that data to the battery meters in the receivers. The battery meters are very accurate when they have been running continuously since new batteries were installed in the transmitter and the transmitter power has not been cycled on and off. However due to the chemical nature of Alkaline batteries, when they have been shut off, the voltage begins to ‘rebound ‘ and the voltage actually increases compared to its value at shutoff. Unfortunately it does not last long and it reverts to true self over twenty minutes or so. For this reason when you first turn on a Transmitter that has been run but allowed to rest the meter will give a high reading that quickly falls over the first few minutes and continues to fall quickly for the first few minutes. This is normal behavior for Alkaline batteries. Q: What's the battery life of XD-V digital wireless systems? A: Battery life depends on the current capacity of the batteries used. Typically AA alkaline batteries can provide about 2400 mAh and will provide about 8 hours of continuous use from two AA alkaline batteries when run on "high" power. Typically you will get 10 hours on the "low" power setting. Be aware of "alkaline rebound" when turning off the unit and turning it back on, as it may look like it has more power than it really has. Antenna Distro Q: Can the RX212 Receiver antennas be linked together? A: Up to 6 receivers can be daisy-chained together using the built-in antenna distro system. LMR-195 antenna cable is required for linking up multiple XD-V receivers. The last unit in the chain should be "terminated" (using the supplied term plugs) when linking receivers together. (Please see the Advanced User Guide). External Antennas Q: What type of antennas work with the XD-V70 receiver (RX212)? A: Line 6 offers both "omni"(P360) and "patch" (P180) directional paddle style antennas as options. http://store.line6.com/. These antennas have built-in line amps to accommodate long cable runs (up to 100' or more) depending on cable type. Antennas connect to Line 6 receivers with BNC connectors. LMR-195 cable (or better) should be used and the gain switch should be set to match the approximate loss of the cable. There are many specialty antennas made by third parties that may also be used. They must be specifically tuned for the 2.4GHz band. You must remember to take into account line loss when using passive antennas Mic Capsules for XD-V Handheld Transmitters Q: What mic capsules can be used with the XD-V handheld transmitters? A: XD-V Handheld transmitters have been designed to allow for the use of interchangeable capsules from 3rd party manufacturers such as Earthworks, Telefunken, Shure and others. However since there is no actual standard for compatibility there is some risk of unintended signal or mechanical issues. Users are advised to test specific combinations prior to purchase. Before replacing a capsule the power should be shut off. Simply screw on the desired capsule, then turn on the power. Mic modeling is bypassed (and not available) when using 3rd party capsules. Depending on the level of the capsule and the loudness of the person singing/speaking into it, the Environment filter may need to be switched ‘off’ if a gating sound occurs. Using Third Party Mics w/ Beltpacks Q: What is the pin-out for wiring to a TA4F connector? A: Pin 1 - Gnd Pin 2 - V+ Pin 3 - Signal Pin 4 - Z (leave open for instrument)(short to pin 3 for mic) For a normal, everyday, run-of-the-mill, Tip/Sleeve (TS) connector for a 1/4" instrument cable end,... the signal goes from 1/4" Tip to TA4F pin-3 (Signal), and 1/4" Sleeve goes to TA4F pin-1 (Gnd). Don’t worry about pins 2 and 4, those are used for Lavaliere Mic connections. Q: What mics work with the XD-V70 Beltpack Transmitter A: Questions often come up as to what mics are compatible with the system and how to adjust the gain to match other wireless systems. Line 6 XD-V70 beltpacks (TBP12) are essentially unity level devices meaning the output voltage of receiver essentially matches the input voltage of the transmitter. So it raises the question’¦ ‘match the level to what?’. Traditional systems are essentially a mic coupled with a preamp, not just a microphone alone. This may require thinking about your system in a new way. With traditional wireless systems that have limited dynamic range, gain and level control are essential if one hopes to have reasonable hiss free operation without excessive distortion. No gain or level matching is required when using XD-V wireless systems because of the XD-V’s wide dynamic range and compander free operation. So the system gain requirement is to have the speech or vocal input to the microphone present an appropriate level into the mic preamp so that the preamp can raise the voltage to be optimum into the next stage of the mixer. Gain is likely needed somewhere in this chain, but as long as the mic preamp has enough gain available there is no problem re-adjusting the input trim to do this. Just turn it up as much as needed. Just remember to plug the output of the XD-V into a ‘mic level’ input on the mixer as it is not intended to be used into a ‘line level’ input. In order to be able to certify a mic and being compatible one would have to know the distance from the user’s mouth and the level of their singing/speech. The sensitivity of both the Line 6 HS70 and the LM4-T lav mic is -46 dB, so using a mic that is approximately the same in sensitivity will result in a similar output voltage to the factory supplied mic. If a lower sensitivity mic were used with any traditional wireless system you would need to turn up the gain in the transmitter, receiver and/or the mixer. If the levels of these three controls are not in perfect sync with each other the result will be extra distortion or extra noise/hiss. With Line 6 XD-V is greatly simplified. Simply make adjustments at the mixer (in the same way as you work with a mic with a cable). Much less complicated (although it may be different than what a user is used to) it insures maximum headroom and far less chance to get it wrong. Just turn up the mixer, that’s why the knobs move. Remember, the relative position of a knob means almost nothing. The correct place is the correct place’¦ no matter where it occurs on the rotation. Examples: Shure® WL-185â„¢ lav is -45.5 dB WL-184â„¢ lav is -44.5 dB’¦ so these mics would be almost identical to The Line 6 LM4. WH30TQâ„¢ headset is -55 dB so it will need a 10 dB boost of the mic trim control on the mixer as compared to the LM4-T to have the same level. Countryman® E6 headsets come with different sensitivities and are specified per application. The E6ow5â„¢ is for general speaking and is the closest to our LM4 levels The E6ow6â„¢ is for strong speaking and singing The E6ow7â„¢ is for ‘powerful vocals’ and will seem very quiet if used for ‘normal speech’ as compared to our LM4-T. This would likely be a poor choice for general speech but could be the proper mic for a screaming singer. Countryman also provides caps to cover and further modify the mic element which can provide additional gain. Audio Technica® AT831 lav is -46 dB AT898 lav is -46 dB * Please double-check that the Audio Technica mic is a model equipped with the TA4F connector. You may need to special order a unit with the correct connection type or refit your existing cable end with the TA4F plug. DPA® 4066 omni headset is -44 dB 4061 omni lav is -44 dB 4060 high output omni lav is ‘“ 35 dB good with very quiet talkers or if the mic is some distance from the performer. Microphone sensitivity does affect the performance of the Environment Filter. If the sensitivity of the mic used is too low there may be audible artifacts. Depending on the situation it may be advisable to switch the filter to ‘off’. Racking V70/75 Receivers Q: How do I connect multiple receivers for rack mounting? A: The XD-V 70/75 half rack sized receivers can be locked together to become a single rack width using the supplied "dovetail key". When mounting a pair of receivers side by side, start with the dovetail inserted approximately half way in the side groove. Then start the second unit, from the front towards the rear and slide until they are closely aligned. A small tap with a mallet and block will align and secure the key in place and level the front faces. Use the short rack ear supplied with each receiver to complete the pair. Multiple rack pairs can be linked together by using dovetail keys in the top and bottom slots of a rack pair. When assembling more than a single pair it is recommended that the left ‘half’ and the right ‘half’ be assembled first and then the ‘halves’ joined together into the 19’ assembly. Wi-Fi Interference Q: Why does my Wi-Fi slow down when I get my transmitter near my computer? A: Because Wi-Fi and Line 6 2.4GHz wireless products share the same frequency band-space. Some users may experience a slowing down or even interruption of their Wi-Fi capabilities when using microphone or instrument transmitters in close proximity to their computers or routers. This program can be used to edit and manage the guitar models in your Variax guitar. ***Please note, that the ALT TUNING knob presets of the James Tyler Variax guitars are NOT accessible through the current version of the Variax Workbench software (v1.73 as of this writing). Q: Can I use the Variax Workbench software to edit my Variax 300 acoustic or Variax 700/705 Bass instrument? A: No, the Variax 300 acoustic guitars do not have a Variax Digital Interface (VDI) jack, and the Variax 700/705 Bass instruments are not supported for Variax Workbench. Q: What Line 6 interface will I need to connect my compatible Variax instrument to my computer to use Variax Workbench? Q: Can I use the Workbench software on a 64 bit operating system? A: Yes all of our software drivers are compatible on 64-bit operating systems. Q: Do I need to use the XPS box to power my guitar when using the Workbench interface or does the Workbench interface power my Variax? A: The Variax still requires power from the XPS footswitch when using the Workbench interface to connect to your computer. However, you will not need the XPS box if you are using a PODxt Live, X3 series, POD HD500, or Vetta series unit to interface with your computer. Q: Why can't I hear audio though my computer while I have my Variax plugged in through the Workbench device? A: The Workbench USB device is not an audio interface, but merely a USB interface to allow your Variax to talk to your computer. In order to hear your Variax, you will need to have it connected to an amp or other monitoring system. Q: With the Workbench package, will I be able to download new sounds into my Variax guitar? For instance, can I get the nylon string sound from your Variax acoustic into my Variax 300/500/700 or vice versa? A: The Workbench software only allows you to edit what is already in the guitar, thereby creating custom guitars internally. You will not be able to install new guitar models into your Variax. Q: What is the maximum I can pitch shift the sympathetic (12 string) strings in Workbench? A: On the 12 string models, you can pitch shift the sympathetic strings by one octave in either direction. Please note- when using the 'detune' option for the sympathetic strings, if you raise the tuning by the full octave you cannot detune the strings any higher than a full octave. Q: Does the Workbench package come with the Digital Variax cable included, or would I have to purchase that separately? A: The Workbench package comes with a 10 foot Digital Variax cable included. This cable is not designed for live use as the longer Variax digital cable is, since it only has the reinforced, hooded connection on one end, rather than both. The 25' version is available separately either through our online store or through any Line 6 dealer. Line 6 Store Q: I've changed one of my models to an alternate tuning and when I switch away from it and back, I get the old model for a few seconds before my new one kicks in. What's going on? A: Until you save your edited model, it has to load into the edit buffer from the swap buffer when you first access the switch. Since it's not yet stored in the guitar, it can take a moment. Take a sip of coffee, and you're golden. Q: I have the same model in two different banks. If I try and drag them both to the File Browser it works, but if I try one at a time, it asks me if I want to overwrite the patch? A: If you drag two models with the same name from the Device Browser to the File Browser at the same time, one of them will get a number added to the end to differentiate it from the other patch (actually this will work with more than two models as well). If you try and drag them over one at a time, Workbench can't tell that they're not the same model (since a drag to the File Browser doesn't carry memory location information along with it), so will assume that you're trying to replace an existing model with an edited version of the same model. The solution? Use unique model names. Q: I just saved a model that I edited from a bundle (or collection) back to that bundle and I'm still getting prompted to save when I close the editor? A: If you closed the bundle (or collection), you severed the tie between that bundle and the edited model. Workbench no longer knows what bundle it came from, only that it has an edited model in memory. If you're absolutely positive you saved it already, just click on "Don't Save". If you have any doubt, click on Save, and it will just save it as a single model in your default Workbench directory. Q: I can't see the bottom of the Editor or Tone Locker windows? A: Workbench needs a screen resolution of 1024x768. While you can flip between two sizes in the Tone Locker (that's what the little triangle in the lower right-hand corner is for), the Editor Window is a fixed size and will go off the bottom of the screen at lower resolutions. For just a little extra room, you can use the Autohide task bar feature on Windows (right-click in the unused portion of the task bar and select Properties) or hiding the Dock on a Mac OS X. Q: Can I adjust individual string volumes? A: Yes. When you open the Editor screen in the Workbench Software, under the "Editor" menu, you'll see a choice for "String Volume Setup" at the bottom of the menu. This brings up a group of 6 sliders to set the balance between strings. Remember that these are global settings (not per patch), so that changing the balance will affect all of your different models. Select "OK" once you have changed the strings to the desired levels. As a side note, it's normal for many guitars to have volumes that differ from string to string. One example of this would be guitars with combination of a fairly small fretboard radius and pickups with non-staggered pole pieces. It can also happen with guitars that have peaks in body resonance at or near the fundamental or one of the lower harmonics of a specific note. Q: What is the "Live" & "Studio" switch in Workbench for when using a Variax Acoustic 700? A: The live mode removes the room reflections from the guitar output. Q: I am getting strange text characters in my title? A: On the Macintosh, Option-1 and Option 2 are keystrokes for special characters. Since this functionality is built into the font designs, we can't turn it off. This will only happen if you have an insert point selected in one of the text fields, though, so you can easily work around it by clicking one of the the body, pickup or tone control select drop-downs (depending on which tab of Workbench you're using) to remove the insert point from the text field. Drag and drop may be a little bit different than what you're used to, as Java (the programming language in which Workbench is written) uses its own protocols for this. We'll try and spell out the differences here. 1. When in the Device Browser window of the Tone Locker, dragging one model to a different location will swap the two (ex. dragging Spank 1 over Spank 3 will swap their positions on the 5-way switch. Dragging Lester 2 over Special 4 will swap their positions on the Select knob and on the 5 way switch). 2. If you don't drop a model directly on top of another model in the Device Browser, but between two models instead, it will insert itself between the two, and slide everything else down one. when this happens all of the 'slid' models will show as editied (have the yellow exclamation mark next to them). If you really want this arrangement, be sure to performa a Sync and choose the "Write Selected Models..." option or your changes can get lost in the shuffle (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). Note: this only works in a bank. You can't insert a model from a different bank, although you can use the swap feature to move a model from one bank to another. 3. Dragging multiple selections from the Device Browser to a collection or bundle in the File Browser will behave differently depending on how the models were selected. A "shift-click" selection process will drop the models in the order in which they are in Memory. "Ctrl-click" (or "Command-click" on the Mac) to make a multiple discontinuous selection will drop them in the order in which they were selected. For example, if you Ctrl (or Command)-clicked on Spank 1, Spank 3, Lester 4, Reso 3, and then came back and selected Lester 2, they would copy to the collection or bundle in that exact order and not the order in which they appear in the Device Browser. 4. Dropping a model from a bank onto that bank name will place that model at the last (5) switch position and move everything above it up one. Q: Will the Variax Workbench graphics change with left-handed Variax? A: The strings appear on-screen the same as for a right handed guitar, the graphics will not be reversed. In other words, the high E string on the physical guitar will correspond to the high E string on-screen. Q: What are all the terms I hear about using Line 6 Workbench? A: To help you through the navigation of Variax and Workbench, please see the following short glossary. Bundle: A saved dump of the entire memory contents of a Variax. This includes all models as well as the bank and switch combination at which they're stored. Collection: A saved group of models. Collections can be of any size and contain internal folders for organization. Models stored in Collections do not include switch/bank information. Q: What's the difference between a bundle and a collection? A bundle is always a dump of the complete user memory contents of a Variax. This includes which memory (or switch if you want to think of it in more traditional guitar terms) position is used for each model. It will always have exactly 12 banks of 5 models each for a total of 60 models. If you wanted to quickly clone your Variax into a friend's, you'd use the Get Bundle button on your guitar, then hook up your friend' guitar and use the Send Bundle button to create a duplicate of your guitar. A collection is just exactly that - a collection of models all stored together. It could be a single model (although that would be a little silly), two models, or thousands of models. Inside a collection, tones can be arranged in folders, so you could put all of your models that use alternate tunings in one folder, or all the different variations on the T-Model body that you created into a single folder. A collection can have as many different folders as you'd like (although you can't nest folders or put a folder inside another folder in a collection). This is a great way to categorize a lot of models if you were, for instance, going to email them to a friend halfway around the world. Edit Buffer: The area in the Variax memory where a model is loaded when you select it from the guitar or double click on it in either one of the browsers. When you're editing a model in Workbench, you're working on a copy of what's stored in the guitar. This means that if you decide that you don't like what you've done, you can back out gracefully without having overwritten what's stored in the guitar. It also means that if you like what you've done, you need to remember to save it. Edit Window: Where the magic happens. In this window, you select body, pickup, tone/volume control, and tuning to build an individual Variax model. The Edit window has three tabs (Body, Pickup, Controls), a tuning section at the bottom, and a graphic representation of the guitar where you can do things like grab one of the pickups, slide it around, or rotate it. File Browser: The left panel of the Tone Locker window. This displays all the models, collections, and bundles that you have stored in your Workbench directory (or whatever directory you've navigated to). Device Browser: The right panel of the Tone Locker window. This displays the current memory contents of your Variax, including any models you may have edited and not yet saved (See the entry for "Sync") Model: A particular combination of body, pickups, tone controls, and (possibly) tuning. Swap Buffer: This loads the model in the guitar that you started from when editing. It's there so you can A/B between what you started with and what you've got. A good way to tell if you're on the right track, or if you need to start over. By the way, when you save a model, it's the currently displayed model is saved, so make sure you're looking at the right one before you hit that Save button. Sync: This button allows you to make sure that what the Device Browser shows and what's in the memory of your Variax are the same. It also gives you the option to go back to your saved user models.. Tone Locker: This window contains both browsers (File and Device) and is where you go to to file management, model organization, and shuffle models around in memory. Troubleshooting Q: I am experiencing MIDI timeouts and/or connection error when I launch Workbench. How can I resolve this? 1) Close Line 6 Monkey prior to opening Line 6 Workbench. 2) Reinstall the latest Line 6 Monkey, device drivers, and Workbench program from the Line 6 website. Wie weit kann ich die Tonhöhe der Resonanzsaiten in Workbench verschieben? Auf den 12 Saitenmodellen können Sie die Resonanzsaiten eine Oktave in beide Richtungen verschieben. Achtung, wenn Sie die "Detune" Option für die Resonanzsaiten verwenden können Sie, wenn Sie die auf eine volle Oktave verschieben, die Detune Funktion nur maximal ulm eine Oktave verändern. Line 6 Webshop Ich habe eines der Modelle abgeändert und wenn ich nun wegschalte und wieder zurück dann bekomme ich erst für ein paar Sekunden das alte Modell bevor mein neues eintritt. Was ist hier das Problem? Bis dass Sie Ihr neues Modell abgespeichert haben wird es aus dem Swap- in den EditBuffer geladen wenn Sie den Knopf verwenden. Da das Modell noch nicht auf der Gitarre abgespeichert ist kann dies einen Moment dauern. Ich habe das selbe Modell in zwei verschiedenen Banken. Wenn ich versuche beide in den File Browser zu ziehen funktioniert das auch aber wenn ich einen einzeln versuche stell Workbench mir die Frage ob ich das Patch überschreiben will. Was ist hier das Problem? Wenn Sie zwei Modelle mit dem selben Namen zur gleichen Zeit aus dem Device Browser in den File Browser ziehen wird eines der Beiden eine Zahl ans Ende gehangen bekommen um beide zu unterscheiden (eigentlich funktioniert dies sogar mit mehr als 2 Modellen.). Wenn Sie aber versuchen eines einzeln auf die andere Seite zu ziehen weiß Workbench nicht dass es nicht die selben Modelle sind und nimmt somit an, dass Sie versuchen ein existierendes Modell mitder veränderten Version zu überschreiben. Lösung: Benutzen Sie einfach einzigartige Modell-Namen. Ich habe gerade ein Modell, welches ich bearbeitet habe, aus einem Bundle (oder Collection) zurück in das Bundle gespeichert und bekomme trotzdem ein Fenster zum Abspeichern wenn ich den Editor schließe. Warum? Wenn Sie das Bundle (oder Collection) geschlossen haben, dann haben Sie die Verbindung zwischen dem Bundle und dem Modell getrennt. Workbench weiß jetzt nicht mehr von welchem Bundle das Modell kam sondern nur, dass es verändert wurde. Wenn Sie sich aber absolut sicher sind, dass Sie es abgespeichert haben, dann können Sie "Don't Save" klicken. Wenn Sie aber zweifeln, dann können Sie auch einfach "Save" klicken, was dann das Modell als einzelnes Modell im der Workbench Verzeichnis nocheinmal abspeichert. Ich kann das untere Ende des Editor oder Tone Port Fensters nicht sehen. Weshalb? Workbench braucht eine Bildschirmauflösung von 1024x768. Während Sie im Tone Port zwischen zwei Größen wechseln können (das kleine Dreieck in der unteren rechten Ecke des Fensters), hat der Editor eine feste Größe und wird somit bei Bildschirmen mit geringen Auflösungen am unteren Ende abgeschnitten. Wofür sind die "Live" und "Studio" Schalter in Workbench wenn ich eine Variax Acoustic 700 benutze? Der Live Modus entfernt die Raum-Reflektionen aus dem Gitarrenausgang. Ich habe seltsame Textzeichen in meinem Titel. Warum? Auf dem Mac sind Option 1 und Option 2 Tastenanschläge für Sonderzeichen. Da diese Funktion in die Schriftarten eingebaut ist, können wir diese nicht abschalten. Dies geschieht jedoch nur, wenn ein Insert Point in einem der Textfelder ausgewählt ist somit können Sie dieses Problem einfach umgehen, indem Sie eines der Body, Pickup oder Tone Menus anklicken (je nachdem in welchen Tab Sie sich befinden) und dort den Insert Point aus dem Textfeld entfernen. Drag & Drop könnt hier etwas unterschiedlich sein zu dem was Sie bereits kennen, da Java eigene Protokolle für Drag & Drop verwendet. Die Unterschiede: Während Sie im Device Browser des Tone Locker Fenster sind können Sie ein Modell auf eine andere Position verschieben, was die Position der beiden Modelle austauscht. (z.B.: wenn Sie Spank 1 auf Spank 3 ziehen wechseln diese Ihre Position auf dem 5-Wege-Schalter. Wenn Sie Lester 2 auf Special 4 ziehen werden diese die Position auf dem Select Knopf und dem 5-Wege-Schalter ändern.) Wenn Sie aber ein Modell nicht sofort auf ein anderes ziehen, sonder zwischen zwei Modellen, dann fügt es sich selbst zwischen beiden Modelle ein und rutscht alle unteren Modelle einen Platz nach unten. Verrutschte Modelle werden dann als "Edited" angezeigt (gelbes Aurufezeichen daneben). Wenn Sie diese Anordnung wirklich haben wollen, führen Sie eine Synchronisation durch indem Sie aud "Write Selected Models..." klicken, ansonsten können Ihre Änderungen verloren gehen. Achtung, dies funktioniert nur für eine Bank obwohl Sie auch die Swap Funktion benutzen können um ein Modell von einer auf eine andere bank verschieben können. Wenn Sie mehrere Modelle aus dem Device Browser in ein Bundle oder eine Collection im File Browser verschieben wollen, wird dieser sich unterschiedlich verhalten je nachdem wie Sie die Auswahl tätigen. Eine "Shift-Klick" Auswahl wird die Modelle in der Reihenfolge verschieben, wie Sie im Speicher sind. "Strg-Klick" (oder "Command-Klick" für Mac) wird die Modelle inder Reihenfolge ablegen in der Sie die einzelnen Modelle angeklickt haben. Z.B.: wenn Sie Strg-Klick gemacht haben auf Spank 1, Spank 3, Lester 4 und Reso 3 und wollen dann nocheinmal zurück um Lester 2 zu kopieren, dann werden diese in genau dieser Reihenfolge in das Bundle bzw. die Collection abgespeichert und nicht in der Reihenfolge, wie sie im Device Browser abgespeichert waren. Wenn Sie ein Modell von einer Bank auf den Namen der Bank ziehen, wird das Modell auf die letzte Position gelegt und alle anderen Modelle wandern ein nach oben. Wird die Grafik der Variax Workbench sich bei einer Linkshänder-Gitarre auch verändern? Nein, die Grafik wird nicht herumgedreht. Die E Saite wird so z.B. auch weiter der E Saite auf dem Bildschirm entsprechen. Welche Sind die Begriffe dich in kennen muss in Verbindung mit der Line 6 Workbench? Bundle: Eine abgespeichert Ablage des gesamten Speichers der Variax. Dies beinhaltet Modelle, sowie Banken und Schalterkonfigurationen. Collection: Eine abgespeicherte Gruppe von Modellen. Collectionen können von jeder Größe sein und beinhalten interne Ordner für die Organisierung. Modelle die in Collections abgespeichert sind beinhalten keine Schalter-/Bankeninformationen. Was ist der Unterschied zwischen Collection und Bundle? Ein Bundle ist immer eine Ablage des vollständigen Speicherinhalts der Variax. Dies beinhaltet die Speicherpositinen der Modelle (oder Schalterpositionen). Es wird immer genau 12 Banken an jeweils 5 Modellen haben, also ins Gesamt 60 Modelle. Wenn Sie Ihre Variax klonen wollen, benutzen Sie einfach den "Get Bundle" Knopf auf Ihrer Gitarre und dann den "Send Bundle" Knopf sobald die andere Gitarre, auf die geklont werden soll, angeschlossen ist. Eine Collection ist eine Sammlung aller Ihrer Modelle zusammen abgespeichert. Das kann sowaohl ein einzelnes sowohl als auch zwei oder tausende Modelle sein. The hole is located on the opposite side of all the UI controls (Backtrack) or on the side opposite the microphone (Backtrack + Mic). Hold the button down for three seconds and then remove the paperclip. The LED on the device will glow white, blink a few times, and then begin blinking blue. You have now successfully reset your Backtrack. Known-Issues: Mac OSX users: stereo .wav files transferred off of Backtrack or Backtrack+Mic will freeze on playback attempt from host computer's audio application and the BackTrack will not record. OSX file system stores extra metadata in hidden "resource fork" files that have a prefix of ._ in front of the .wav file's name. BackTracks use a non-Mac file system, FAT32, that doesn't support resource forks. Deletion of those addition metadata files should allow for playback of the stereo .wav files. BackTrack will not record while connected to computers to recharge or to use the utility software. However, BackTrack WILL record if conencted to third party USB chargers.

Q: My update stopped in the middle of the process? A: During the Pocket POD update using the Line 6 Monkey software on a Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit) machine, the update may stop and will not continue. This may occur on certain USB ports. This issue can be verified if the progress bar stops partway through the update. Note: If the update does stop, the system will not respond to requests to shutdown the computer, even after force quitting monkey. After disconnecting the Pocket POD, the system can be shutdown. The Pocket POD remains in boot mode after this occurs. Reconnecting to Monkey and re-installing the firmware update does recover the Pocket POD.   25. 2x12 and 4x12 are not showing up on PODxt series Q: My manual refers to output modes "4x12" and "2x12", or "VIBE", but I can't find them on my POD XT Live A: We decided to use more intuitive, user-friendly terms on the POD XT Live, but unfortunately the manual was not updated. Where the manual mentions "4x12" and "2x12", it is referring to "Stack mode" and "Combo mode", respectively, in the Pod XT's "What am I connected to?" mode. Each of these modes offer the option of connecting through the "Front" of the amp or the "Pwramp" (back) section of the amp. When using the "Front" option, tone correction options are made available to shape the overall PODxt output to sound good in front of a combo amp. The "What are you connecting to" page previously offered an option for "Live: Front of 2x12 Combo", which was basically a "2x12 power amp with speakers" setting with some additional filtering to compensate for the sound of your combo amp's preamp section. This setting was replaced by the VIBE setting, which split out the speaker configuration and the combo preamp compensation into two different adjustable parameters. Incidentally, the VIBE setting that mapped to the old "combo mode" setting is "MIDHVY - 480Hz" when used along with the "Live: 2x12" DEST setting. PODxt set to MONO Q: How can I set the Podxt to mono if I'm connecting the Podxt to a mono amp? A: You will have to set the Podxt to "Live" mode. To do this, select the tuner button, turn the select knob until you see "What are you connected to" page. Turn the "Effect Tweak" knob to "Live 4X12 or 2X12" or "Stack" or "Combo". This will alow the Podxt outputs to be mono. EX-1 control parameters on Podxt Q: I am having a problem getting my PODxt to allow me to control the effect parameters via the expression pedal on the FBV Shortboard. A: The EX-1 expression pedal will control some functions and this is how you get them to work. Press the "Edit" button then turn the "select" knob until you see the "wah | volume" page. On the volume side, select or highlight "Assign" with the third soft button located under the main display. Turn the "Effect Tweak" knob to change from volume to Tweak. In the updated PODxt, these parameters are changed on the page after the "wah/volume" page. By changing from volume to tweak you have engaged to EX-1 to control any function that comes under "tweak". To find out what's under the tweak selection, turn the "Select" knob to the next page where you will see "FX Tweak | tempo". on the FX tweak side you may scroll through the stomp tweaks, delay tweaks, mod tweaks etc. Make sure if you select say the delay time, the delay button light must be on and so with the other effects. PODxt three stomp with FBV Q: Can the PODxt actually play three stomp box sounds when conected to a FBV? Section 9-7 of the pilots handbook seems to indicate that. A: These buttons are for the Vetta series of amps. With the PodXt, the Stomp2 button controls Compression on/off and Stomp3 controls Gate On/Off. This is explained in the documentation that ships with the FBV. Connecting any POD unit to an amplifier POD Connections, Routing and the 4 Cable Method Amp bypassed on PODxt Q: How do I bypass the Amp Models? A: In preset mode turn the amp model knob counter clock wise to Bypass with all the effects buttons off, this will put the Podxt/Bass PODxt in bypass, then "save". You are really making a bypass channel or bypass preset. Q: If I set the PODxt to bypass the amp sounds, is the preamp of the PODxt bypassd, will I get the pure tone of my amp? A:Yes, you can also save your setup as a preset (no amp model, just effects). Can you adjust the S/PDIF or AES/EBU output volume level? Press the I/O & Dig Select button on the right hand side of the POD / Bass PODxt Pro. Then press the Soft Button below GAIN and spin the EFFECT TWEAK knob to add up to 12 db of gain on the digital outs. This is useful to help cut down on excessive use of normalization after recording in the digital domain. Pod XT Input specs: Q: What is A.I.R. II? A: A.I.R. II is Line 6's second generation Acoustically Integrated Recording technology. It expands your sonic choices and creative options by allowing you to choose a variety of microphone models and adjust their placement in front of the cabinet.
