  1. Q: Will the POD HD modelers work with the POD Farm standalone or plug in software? A: No. POD Farm is not compatible with any of our POD HD multi effect processor devices however, Line 6 has developed a proprietary editor librarian software called POD HD Edit that is a free download and will allow you to edit your tones on your computer. POD HD Edit is a free download and can be downloaded from our Software Downloads Page.
  2. Q: I purchased model packs for my Line 6 device. If I upgrade to POD Farm 2 do I lose my model packs? A: As long as you purchase a Line 6 license key upgrade for POD Farm 2 then all of your previously purchased model packs will work within POD Farm 2. The only time this would not happen is if you purchased a "crossgrade" license key to POD Farm 2 iLok. Q: I purchased a Model Pack for my Line 6 audio interface and now I want to "crossgrade" to the iLok version of the plug in. Will I lose my model packs? A: If you "crossgrade" to the STANDARD POD Farm for iLok then yes. Model packs are not transferable from a Line 6 device over to an iLok key. However, you can purchase POD Farm 2 Platinum for iLok at a special "crossgrade" price. See the online store for details. Q: I purchased my POD Farm version 1 iLok key "Used/off of eBay" (basically NOT through the Line 6 Website Store or a Storefront/Dealer and had the key transferred to my account through Pace. Do I qualify for any upgrades or discount prices? A: No. Upgrades and discount pricing is only available to customers who purchased the POD Farm for iLok new from a dealer or through the Line 6 online store. Q: I purchased my Line 6 device used and there was a POD Farm version 1 license key tied to the device but not to my account. Do I qualify for any upgrade pricing or discounts on POD Farm 2? A: No. Upgrades and discount pricing is only available to customers who purchased the POD Farm Line 6 licenses new from the Line 6 online store. Q: Do I have to purchase a Line 6 license key to use POD Farm 2 as a standalone application for Tone Direct Monitoring? A: Yes. Unlike POD Farm version 1, which you can use in standalone mode for free without purchasing a key, you will need to purchase a Line 6 license key from our Online Store in order to use POD Farm 2 as a standalone application. Q: Will POD Farm 2 run in Standalone Mode with a iLok POD Farm 2 license key? A: No. The behavior is no different than that of POD Farm 1.x Plug-In effect with iLok licenses. It runs only as an AU/VST/RTAS Plug-In effect within a support host DAW application. Q: Will POD Farm 2 run in Standalone Mode with a PODxt or POD X3 (Bean, Live or Pro model) with a license installed in this device? A: No. The correct Standalone patch editing software for PODxt and POD X3 devices is GearBox (currently at version 3.72). Q: Will POD Farm 2 tones load into Gearbox to put on my POD xt/X3 hardware? A: No, POD Farm 2 tones will not load into the Gearbox software.

Also included is the POD Farm standalone application, which features ToneDirect Monitoring for low latency performance with supported Line 6 devices. The installer includes these components: POD Farm plug-in (v1.12) for RTAS and VST POD Farm standalone application (v1.12), with support for POD Studio, TonePort and GuitarPort POD Farm Basic User Guide (v1.1) Device drivers (v4.0.2.6) for all supported devices Driver Control Panel for Line 6 devices (v3.41) Line 6 Monkey intelligent updater (v1.33) What's New? Full compatibility with Windows 7 and OS X 10.6 (up-to-date drivers included in the installer) Fixes for automation problems when bouncing tracks in Logic Fixes operation of knob controls in Digital Performer Numerous other stability and compatibility fixes Please read the POD Farm Basic User Guide for instructions on getting POD Farm up and running once it's installed. Online help is available in English and other languages HERE Note: This version of POD Farm includes support for both Line 6 hardware and iLok USB Smart Key. Licenses for each hardware platform are unique and not interchangeable. POD Farm or POD Farm Platinum iLok licenses are required for use with iLok keys. Activations for iLok keys are included with the retail version of the plug-ins or can be purchased from the Line 6 Online Store POD Farm and POD Farm Platinum iLok users may may choose not to install the components required for Line 6 devices. Likewise, POD Studio and other Line 6 hardware users of POD Farm may ignore any iLok specific installer components. All supported Line 6 devices require a POD Farm license for VST/AU/RTAS plug-in functionality. If your device does not already have a POD Farm license, one can be purchased at the Line 6 Online Store System Requirements: WINDOWS® Pentium® 4, 1.2GHz or better (2.5Ghz or higher recommended) Windows® XP® (with SP2 or better) XP x64, or Windows® Vista® (32 bit and 64 bit versions are supported) 512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended) 1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording) USB port on computer Internet connection required for activation (once activated, Internet connection is not required) Host application that supports RTAS, AU, or VST Plug-ins MACINTOSH® Intel® or Power PC® based G4 800MHz or better (G4 1.67 or better recommended) OS X 10.4.6 or better 512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended) 1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording) USB port on computer Internet connection required for activation (once activated, Internet connection is not required) Host application that supports RTAS, AU, or VST Plug-ins Known Issues: When using DAW automation to change model types all model parameter settings revert to their default settings. Work around is to instantiate POD Farm on separate tracks for alternating amp/effect setups or automate all parameters after a automating a model change. Loaded presets which include unauthorized cabinet models do not provide a graphic indication that the model is not active. The user must look at the drop down menu to know if the cabinet model is available or not. A user will never be able to create a preset (from scratch) which includes a model which is not owned. To avoid presets consisting unauthorized models, sort the preset browser's metadata by Own All Models. Not all automation parameters are available in Ableton Live's automation menu. Ableton Live is designed to display 128 automation parameters. POD Farm may not find previously installed GearBox presets by default. Clicking the refresh button in the "Presets" view will show the presets properly. If you create a preset with an amp and then delete that amp and perform a "Save As", you'll notice the deleted amp is called out in the "Save Tone As" window. This is just a GUI issue and your preset has been saved with no amp. Digital Performer does not process Pod Farm plug-in audio when bouncing. POD Farm subsequently freezes when the bounce is completed. The direct audio is bounced, but without the POD Farm effects. Digital Performer does not crash; you can still go to the inserts and remove the frozen POD Farm instance. Mac Exclusive: Clicking on a tone icon will automatically launch Gearbox if it is also installed on your computer. You need to manually associate tones on your Mac to open using POD Farm. Right click or CTRL click on the icon and select "Open With."

  6. Line 6 generally tests with software Digital Audio Workstations (DAW) that are the latest and the last freely upgradeable versions. Line 6 does not test on 3rd party applications that are no longer supported by their own developers. While we use a wide variety of 3rd party recording applications during our software testing, it is simply not possible to test POD Farm's (or any other Line 6 software) compatibility with every DAW. We make every effort to be compatible with as many recording applications as is practical. Research performed by our Quality Assurance department, beta testers, and ultimately POD Farm users systematically help us to identify bugs and incompatibilities, and we continually strive to resolve these issues with incremental software releases and/or documentation in the form of release notes, online Knowledge Base items, and forum posts. POD Farm plug-ins are developed to conform to the standards established for RTAS, VST and AU and should be compatible with any DAW supporting these plug-in formats. It is important to note that the way that DAW manufacturers implement these standards varies, which, when combined with a given computer's unique configuration, may result in varying plug-in performance.
  7. Terms Before we begin here are some terms to know POD Farm Application is a tone modeling application for all non-POD Line 6 USB recording devices . The application processing the audio from your device on the way to your recording software. Gearbox is the old version of POD Farm. Gearbox operates as a standalone application, standalone editor for POD XT/X3 devices, plugin, and GuitarPort Online client. Amp Farm is the first Line 6 modeling software. 8. Q: What is an iLok? A: The iLok is a proprietary USB hardware dongle that holds licenses for software protected by PACE Anti-Piracy's Interlok. About The iLok: https://www.ilok.com/ilok.html Q: How do I activate my POD Farm iLok purchase? A: After you purchase an iLok-compatible software product from the Line 6 Online Store, you must deposit the license authorization to your iLok.com account and then download the license key to your Pace iLok USB Smart Key by following these instructions. Deposit Process: 1. Create an iLok account. (If you already have an iLok account skip this step and proceed to the next step. An iLok account and a Pace iLok USB Smart Key are required to complete the activation process. If you do not already have a free iLok account please create one now at iLok.com. If you do not own an iLok device, you will need to purchase one from a retailer). 2. Deposit your license authorization to iLok account. Sign in to Line6.com with the same Line 6 account that was used during your online purchase, and start the deposit from the iLok Deposits Page Line6.com by clicking 'Deposit' next to one of the listed license authorizations. This sends the iLok License authorization from your line6.com account to your iLok.com account. 3. Download (Sync) your license to your iLok device. A deposited license becomes visible on iLok.com and can be downloaded into your iLok device by connecting the iLok device to your computer and clicking 'Synchronize' from within your iLok account. Details are provided in your iLok.com account. For additional assistance, please post your question in the POD Farm Support forum. Transfers: Purchased iLok Licenses may be 'moved' between two iLok devices that are registered in you iLok.com account. Purchased iLok Licenses may also be transferred from you iLok account to another iLok account. Move and Transfer instructions are provided on iLok.com. There may be a nominal fee assessed by iLok.com. Trial and other free iLok Licenses may not be moved or transferred. Returns: As stated in the Line 6 Online Store Policy, we cannot accept returns of any purchase containing an iLok License authorization, because the iLok license keys are managed by a 3rd party. If you have experienced a billing or activation issue related to an iLok License purchase, please contact Line 6 Customer Service for assistance.
  9. Before we get into defining "Platinum", it's important to know that POD Farm comes in two distinct flavors: 1. As a plug in tied to a Line 6 device OR 2. As a plug in tied to an iLok key The difference between POD Farm and POD Farm Platinum, regardless of which type of device the license is tied to, is simply the number of amp, cab, and FX models available in the plug-in. POD Farm includes a limited number of models PLUS any models your Line 6 device contains from buying model packs, while POD Farm Platinum includes ALL Line6 models ever made to date. You may be asking "What does this mean"? Let's look at some examples: If you have a POD XTL and you own all of the Line 6 model packs (Power Pack, Metal Shop, FX Junkie, Collector Classics, and the Bass Expansion Pack), then you will have an equivalent model set to what's included in POD Farm Platinum. If you have a POD XTL loaded with only the Collectors Classic pack and you upgrade to POD Farm plug in, you will not have an equivalent model set to POD Farm Platinum, but the models from the Collector Classic Pack will be available in POD Farm. If you have an POD X3 and you installed your free POD Farm plug in then you will have an equivalent model set to what's included in POD Farm Platinum. Why? Because the X3 devices come loaded with all of our models out of the box. The same goes for anyone who owns a TonePort DI Gold version. Now, it's important to remember that the iLok version of POD Farm will come in two versions: 1. POD Farm for iLok (a limited amount of models included) OR 2. POD Farm Platinum for iLok (all models included) Some questions about POD Farm plug-in for iLok: Q: Can I transfer my POD Farm key out of my Line 6 device into an iLok? A: Currently there is no way to transfer a POD Farm license from a Line 6 device to an iLok key. Q: Can I upgrade my standard version of POD Farm for iLok to the Platinum version? A: See the following link for the upgrade path: http://line6.com/store/podfarm/ilok Q: Do I get a 30-day refund option for the iLok version of the software (as seen with the Line 6 licenses)? A: No, as iLok is a separate company there is no way to get a refund once the license has been purchased. We reccomend using the trial version of the POD Farm prior to purchasing to ensure you are interested in POD Farm.
  10. Q: How do I get the POD Farm Plug-in? A: POD Farm is now a factory-enabled feature available free for POD X3, POD X3 Live, POD X3 Pro, TonePort DI, TonePort UX8, and all of the POD Studio computer interfaces. Use the Line 6 License Manager software to authorize your hardware with the POD Farm license. If you purchased the GearBox plug-in as an Add-on from the Line 6 Online Store, then you may obtain POD Farm plug-in functionality at no charge (additional models not included) by running the Line 6 License Manager program, then, authorizing the your licenses on your hardware. Q: I purchased the Gearbox plug-in. Am I entitled to a free upgrade to POD Farm? A: Yes. POD Farm is available as a free download to everyone who owns the GearBox Plug-In including TonePort DI owners. POD Farm Plug-In will also be available for free to POD X3, POD X3 Live and POD X3 Pro owners. Q: I received a free POD Farm plug in because I am an X3 owner. Is it possible for me to transfer the POD Farm plug in to another device? A: No, the free upgrade to POD Farm for X3 owners is a factory bit that is bound to the X3 and cannot be transfered out. Q: I received the Gearbox Plug-In as part of a promotion (Annual GPO Subscription Service). Am I entitled to a POD Farm Plug-in as well? A: No, the free POD Farm upgrade does not apply to free Gearbox Plug-In promotional events (such as GuitarPort Online). 13. Q: What is the KB37 used primarily for? A: It is a 37-key USB MIDI keyboard/control surface and TonePort USB audio interface. The KB37 will be able to send and receive MIDI CC information and process audio input and output across the USB connection to the host computer. Q: What are the knobs in the center top of the keyboard for? A: They are 4 software-assignable MIDI Continuous Control parameter knobs with 4 soft-buttons and a dedicated set of MIDI transport controls. The KB37 can control assignable MIDI parameters in most software synthesizer/samplers on the market today, along with most digital audio recording application sequencer track transport controls. Note: The KB37 does not have any of it's own onboard sounds. It is a MIDI controller that sends MIDI data to the computer and any installed MIDI software synthesizer/sound software. Q: What are the Audio Specs for the TonePort I/O section? A: Sample rate conversion at 16 and 24 bit at 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz. 2 XLR inputs with mic preamps and +48V phantom power. 2 Guitar/Bass Inputs – use the Pad input for guitars and basses with high level pickup outputs, or the normal input. Dual analog VU meters (software assignable to input, record send, and output levels). Q: Can I use GearBox editing software with the KB37? A: Yes, the KB37 is a GearBox software supported TonePort family device. Reference Links: Assigning KB37 Transport Keys To Logic 7 MMC Input must be enabled in Logic 7 in order to receive MMC from the KB37. From the main application menu, open Preferences>MIDI Select the Sync tab Click the MIDI Sync Song Settings button in the bottom right; this launches the Song Settings dialog. In the section labeled "MIDI Machine Control (MMC)" check the "Listen to MMC Input" option Note that this is a per-song option. To make this option global, you must modify your template file. Open Line 6 Audio/MIDI devices. Go to the MIDI tab. Click the Settings button. Choose a preset from the presets list. For each transport control, change the "To MIDI Out" parameter to "MIDI CC", assign a MIDI CC (for this example, we'll use 20-24), and change Switch Mode to Momentary. Click the Apply button, name the preset, click the Save icon and click OK. Click OK on the next screen. Assigning KB37 Transport Keys To Sonar 6 Go to Options/MIDI Devices and choose the KB37 as the input device and choose OK. Go to Options/Controllers/Surfaces. Click the Add New Controller/Surface icon. For Controller/Surface, choose ACT MIDI Controller. Input port should be the KB37. Click OK. Go to Views/Toolbars and ensure Controllers/Surfaces is selected, then close the window. In the Controllers toolbar, click the Controllers/Surfaces Properties button that is at the right end of the Control Surfaces toolbar. Although you can choose any preset, the M-Audio Ozone is laid out closest to the KB37 layout, so use it for this example. In the Controllers tab, you'll see 8 columns, each containing 4 three-row sections, three of which should be labeled "N/A". Go to the last of those 3 rows and click the n/a label to name it Rewind. Name the next 3 N/A fields from left to right: Stop, Play and Record. There is an empty field two slots below each of the labels. When you click the empty field for each of the 4 columns you just set up, press the corresponding transport button on the KB37 and it will be learned by Sonar. Go to the Options tab and under the Buttons category, drop down the second field to choose a control label and the third field to choose the transport control. Uncheck the "Exclude this button from ACT" setting each time. Click in the Presets field to name your new preset then hit the save icon. This preset will be stored and available to use with the KB37. Control Garageband With KB37 In order to control the Transport functions in Garageband with the KB37 you will need to have version 2.0.1 of Garageband or later. The Garageband software cannot do this natively and so you will need to download add-on software that permits MIDI messages to control the play and stop buttons in Garageband. GarageRemote is one such software and is available here: http://www.muratnkonar.com/otherstuff/garageremote/ This software is from the company: murat n konar Once GarageRemote is installed and set up, start GarageRemote's Listener off by default) so that it can relay MIDI notifications to GarageBand. GarageBand responds to MIDI CC 007 and 010 for current track volume and pan, and these parameters can be assigned to the existing GarageBand MIDI preset of the Line 6 Audio-MIDI Devices settings. Setting Up The KB37 Transport With Cubase The KB37 has control wheels and buttons like many other Mackie or others transport cotrollers. You can get the two working together by simply going into: device setup, click on the + button, add MIDI MACHINE CONTROL SLAVE, and select the Line 6 Toneport KB37 from the menu on the right. In order to set the control on the KB37 itself you will need to go to: Line 6 Audio Midi Devices in your Control Panel and select the MIDI tab. Setting Up The KB37 To Control Reason First, ensure that you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Line 6 Monkey. Run it and verify that your TonePort KB37 is running the latest driver, firmware and flash memory. Download the latest version of GearBox application and install it to your computer. Launch the "Line 6 Audio-MIDI Devices" program from the Line 6/Tools folder. Next, make sure the KB37 is the active device. Select the MIDI tab and from the drop-down list of Controller Mapping applications, select Reason (version #). You are now ready to use the KB37's transport, Sound Select and 4 assignable real-time parameter controls with Reason. Keep in mind that you will be using the default parameter control settings. If you wish to customize those, click on the "Settings" button to access the Parameter Map screen. The drop-down list titled "MIDI CC/Action" is where you can modify which device parameters are to be controlled by the available controllers on the KB37. Keep in mind that each Reason Device has it's specific parameter CC# assignment. To access those values, refer to the "MIDI Implementation Chart" located in the Documentation folder within the Reason application folder on your computer's hard drive.

  15. TonePort UX8 Frequently Asked Questions Q: Is TonePort UX8 an audio interface or software? Does it record? A: TonePort UX8 is a USB audio interface. Every TonePort audio interface works with the included GearBox modeling software as an integrated hardware/software system. The TonePort device gets audio signals into your computer and GearBox software makes everything you record sound amazing. TonePort UX8 is a unique integration of professional hardware and amp and effects modeling software. Designed with high quality electrical components and a rugged exterior, TonePort UX8 provides a wide dynamic range and an exceedingly low noise floor. The UX8, like every TonePort device, works together with the included GearBox software as an integrated hardware/software system, making everything you record sound amazing. Additionally, TonePort UX8 features Line 6's exclusive ToneDirect Monitoring, which lets you hear your GearBox-processed signal instantaneously, providing unmatched responsiveness while you record. Q: What is ToneDirect monitoring? A: ToneDirect monitoring allows you to monitor a fully processed signal with extremely low latency, regardless of the buffer size of your recording application. This means that there is an incredibly small delay between when you play a note and when you actually hear the sound from your speakers. This is unusual among audio interfaces because with other more traditional monitoring solutions, you either have to listen to processed audio with significant latency, often such that it is hard to play along with what you are recording or listen to a signal with no processing. It's uninspiring to say the least to hear completely dry electric guitar with no amp, cab, or effect processing. Q: What is GearBox? A: GearBox is the standalone software application that works with your TonePort audio interface, providing everything you need to record professional sounding tracks. GearBox contains models of vintage and modern amps, speaker cabinets, stompbox and studio effects for guitar, bass and vocals and can be applied while recording to any pair of inputs. Q: Can I apply Gearbox effects to all 8 inputs at once? A: Yes, using the Gearbox plug-in that is included with the UX8. Q: Will Gearbox be able to record at 96K? A: The UX8 driver can process audio at 96K, but Gearbox operates at 48K. Gearbox converts the 96k signal from the UX8 driver, converts it to 48k, processes it, then sends the signal to the UX8 driver, which then converts the signal to 96k. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 without the GearBox software? A: Yes, you can use the TonePort hardware without GearBox software. Q: Can you re-amp with UX8? A: Not the same way you can with a PODxt, but you can via the GearBox Plug-In. The method for re-amping with a PODxt is pointed out in Knowledge Base document 3940. Q: What is GearBox Plug-In? A: GearBox Plug-In is a VST, AU and RTAS plug-in, providing the same models as the standalone application and additional flexibility when mixing and mastering. Q: Is the GearBox Plug-In included with TonePort UX8? A: Yes, it is. Q: Are TonePort UX8 and GearBox Intel Mac compatible? A: Yes, they are. Q: What recording software can I use with TonePort UX8? A: Every TonePort supports the ASIO standard on Windows and Core Audio on the Macintosh and should work well with any recording application that supports one of these protocols. The UX8 is designed to work with most major applications such as ProTools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar and Ableton Live. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 and GearBox processing as a front end for Pro Tools? A: Yes, if your Pro Tools® hardware interface has a S/PDIF input you can run the stereo S/PDIF output of your TonePort UX8 directly into your Pro Tools hardware, complete with ToneDirectâ„¢ monitoring and GearBox processing. You can also utilize the Pro Tools compatible RTAS-format GearBox Plug-In for mixing and mastering. Q: Is RiffWorks 2 Line 6 Edition compatible with TonePort UX8? A: No, RiffWorks Line 6 and Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition are not compatible with the UX8. However, the Standard Edition (full version) of Riffworks available for purchase through the Sonoma WireWorks website: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/. Q: Can I expand the model set of TonePort UX8 with Line 6 Model Packs? A: Yes, you can. They are available as optional Model Pack purchases from our online Store. Q: Can I transfer model packs that I purchased on another Line 6 hardware device over to my new UX8? A: Yes. Once you've purchased a model pack license key, that key remains with your user account indefinitely. You cannot, however have two or more different registered hardware devices running the same model pack simultaneously. Only one hardware device can have the model pack installed on it at any given time. Q: Do the gain controls on the front panel control the line input jacks on the back of the unit? A: The gain controls the input level of the XLR inputs, not the instrument cable inputs (as these are assuming line level and most instruments will have their own level control). Q: What do the VU meters do on TonePort UX8? A: The GearBox application allows you to assign the signal that is monitored by the VU meters to various audio sources: including input, record send, output and monitor levels. Q: How accurate are the VU meters on the UX8 in relation to the meters in the software? A: Very accurate, with the smallest of variance between Gearbox and the physical meters. Q: What will happen if my signal clips the unbalanced analog input on the UX8? A: The clipping will be a "natural clipping". The cure is to lower the incoming signal at the source. Q: How many Instruments/Mics can I record at one time? Since you are monitoring directly out of the UX8, am I going to experience any latency when recording all 8 inputs? A: 8 inputs can be recorded at any given time. Outputs 1 & 2 are monitored via ToneDirect, with the remaining outputs monitored from the hardware at near zero latency. Q: Can the phantom power from the UX8 damage my dynamic mic? A: No, it will not. Q: What is the signal to noise ratio on the analog inputs? A: The UX8 has an input signal to noise ratio of .005% THD, with a dynamic range of 111 dB. Q: What do flashing lights on the unit mean? A: The LED status indicators (Main Mute and Main Clip LEDs provide secondary functions in their ability to indicate the connection status of USB and S/PDIF) as follows: No USB connection: The main clip LEDs alternate steadily between left and right, about once every second. The USB cable may be unplugged or the UX8 driver may not be installed on your computer. No S/PDIF clock sync: The Mute LED blinks 3 times rapidly about once every second when the clock mode set to S/PDIF, and no external clock is present. Q: What are the dimensions and weight of the UX8? A: The UX8 is a standard two-unit rack space module, with dimensions of 17"w x 7"d (8" with knobs) x 3.5"h. The shipping weight is 11.6 lbs. Known Issues: An incompatibility for systems running on Intel ICH10 USB Chipsets; UX8 will hang the user's computer system. The solution for this is to use a PCI USB 2.0 interface card to connect UX8. Record buss mis-routing of UX8 in Gearbox when recording into DAW Gearbox is remembering POD Farm 1 and 2 Record send settings if PF (1 or 2) was used before Gearbox program. Workaround is to reset the Record Send settings that were made in POD Farm 1 or 2, or to reboot the computer.
