  1. Hi all! Here's the problem: When I try adding distortion to my bass guitar tone it always gets extremely fizzy. I have tested different options (lowering high cut even down to 2 kHz, various amps, cabs, IRs, EQs, different models of distortion pedals and amps, different amp settings etc.) - though it's possible to mitigate the problem to an extent, the fizziness is always there. The solution which seems to work best for me is lowering the input impedance, even all the way down to 10k Ohm, which works more or less like turning down the tone knob on the guitar. Basically with that solution I'm quite happy with the tones I'm able to get now, so I'm not really asking for help with solving my problem - I'm just curious if anyone else has come across this issue and what solutions they may have come up with. BTW - with guitar tones setting the amp/IR block high cut to somewhere between 5 and 8 kHz basically always solves the fizziness problem - the more surprised I am at how hard it is to eliminate it from bass guitar tones. [edit] One thing I forgot to mention - the bass guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Junior Tribute DC - what I mean is I don't suppose the quality of the bass or it's pickup should be a problem. Cheers all!

My new pod pro HD X sounds lethal and I'm using the big bottom model for modern metal stuff just as I did on my XT Pro I've just let go -- sounds great through monitors using both R and L mono out and of course headphones. USB output as my audio device is really really fizzy -- same tone but a lot less bass, very muffled and a very loud scratchy high end, as if it's only recording part of the tone. I've googled lots of threads with people just talking about line 6 fizz but the tone is fine -- just through USB it's doing this. I've checked already the POD USB is studio direct not front end etc, made sure all levels are fine, but results via USB are totally different. Read a good few posts about editing the 'Z' value in HD Pro Edit (22k, 3.5m etc) and whilst that changes some parts of the tone it still sounds very off through USB. What am I missing here? I'd prefer to use the USB audio device method rather than line out so I can sell my interface and have a cleaner rig. Thanks, JP
  3. Hey Helix fans, I am trying to get a descent sound from my Helix LT direct to PA through XLR. Problem is: it always sounds to edgy/fizzy when using any kind of distortion And instead of adjusting each effect with a super low "treble" setting, I'd prefer to use them just as I would real pedals into an amp, so I stay familiar with them. I've added a global high-pass filter to 8k... but still, I find it kinda just gives a "pillow over speaker" effect Any Amp/Cabinet combo settings you would suggest that might be ideal? Any suggestions for global settings? EQ settings? Thanks everyone
  4. Colleagues: I've had the Helix a month and it's fantastic and I'm definitely keeping it. The versatility (especially using IRs) is amazing. But my experience is a bit similar to "joseroys" who started a thread 2-14-17 with a title like I used here. I have a high-frequency "fizz" that spans the spectrum when using a flat global eq (turned off). Rather than take up any time now with what I'm using , etc., if a couple folks could simply recommend factory presets that they find have a clean sound no ovedrive) with global eq off, I will take a listen and be sure my unit is OK. I want to be sure I'm hearing what you're hearing. I've been a guitar player for nearly 50 years and have played in the modeling/digital realm since I bought my first POD a long time ago and I can be hyper sensitive to certain sounds. I can get the tone I want using global eq with a couple eq's in the signal chain, but I need to do significant adjusting when going between my ultra strat and PRS custom 24. I have been reading the forum on this and other topics for a couple weeks and that really helped me get control of the Helix sound. Thanks in advance for your replies! Doug
