  1. I use Gearbox 3.72 to practice in home. In this version there is a preset/tone called 'Lux Verb Chorus. In my current equipment to play live (Zoom 3000) I can not reproduce the simulations and the effects of this preset. I'm thinking of changing this Zoom by a POD HD. Is there any way to transfer this preset for the POD HD? Or, is there any preset in POD HD that is equal to 'Lux Verb Chorus? Thank You!
  2. How to import my tones (on the pod xt) into Gearbox? I have the option of saving tones FROM gearbox onto the pod xt but when I go to select a bank, they're all blank and I don't want to overwrite the tones on the pod. Thanks, Mike
  3. Hello, sometimes, using Gearbox with my UX8, the 2 footswitches don't work. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. It's not a pedal problem (I tested with an external software, midi ox, and they always work properly), it's just a Gearbox problem. I use the latest available Gearbox version and latest UX8 drivers. Also the metronome, sometimes doesn't work. How can I fix that? Thank you!
  4. Can I connect my toneport di gearbox to my ipad4? If so, what types if connecteres do I use. Thks
  5. First, connect the FBV via USB to the computer and use the FBV Control software. In the File>Open menu, select the ‘Gearbox’ preset for the FBV. This will store on the FBV automatically. Close FBV Control. Then, start Gearbox with the FBV still connected to the computer. Go to the Edit>Preferences window, and in the ‘MIDI/Control’ tab, select USB Audio Device for MIDI Input. Hit Apply and then, OK. The FBV will now control certain parameters of the program including Wah/Volume sweep and toggling. If you would like to change the behavior of the switches, you should than exit Gearbox and go back to FBV Control once again to assign MIDI CC Toggle messages that correspond with what they want to control in the program. You can reference the chart for Gearbox MIDI CC messages starting on page 2.14 of the following Gearbox MIDI CC Reference Guide: http://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593546810e/application/pdf/MIDI%20Continuous%20Controller%20Reference%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20F%20).pdf
  6. When I want to edit some of my patches on Gearbox I get this message: "This tone requires you update your POD X3 to 2.00 or higher" According to Line6 Monkey everything is up to date (green check mark next to each item). I've got Gearbox 3.72.0 Line6 Monkey 1.64 - Drivers 7.2.9 - USB Firmware 1.00 - Flash Memory 2.10 Can someone please assist? I'm using OSX 10.8.5 on a 2010 Macbook Pro
  7. Hi everyone!) There is a problem: Changes from gearbox to pod xt live doesnt reflect (exception changing amp or stomp) gearbox knobs in Stomp, amp etc doesnt change postion in the pod xt live. But there is reflection from pod xt live to gearbox. When I touch real knobs and buttons - it is reflecting in gearbox too (change position, turn on/off etc). Line 6 Edit works fine, but I prefer Gearbox real-time editing. I try another USB cable - same effect( Сan anyone suggest solution for this problem?! Best regards, olgerd)
  8. I haven't used the UX2 for over a year. I have a new Mac and use Garageband. I have downloaded everything new that I can from the Line6 site - Gearbox, Monkey, drivers. Admittedly, I don't really know what Monkey or drivers means, but I've installed everything that I can and tried to follow instructions. No luck. The UX2 red lights are now solid, not flashing, but no sound comes through. Gearbox doesn't recognise it - there is a flashing usb plug symbol. Garageband doesn't recognise it - there's no options for it in the Preferences. Can anyone help? Cheers, Rasjad
  10. When using a James Tyler Variax Guitar with a PODxt Live, POD X3 Live, or X3 Pro, the POD presets will not recall Variax models as originally saved with a Variax 300, 500, 600, or 700 electric guitars.? You would need to re-save your presets with the desired model with the James Tyler Variax plugged in. When attempting to set the Variax model with a JTV guitar using a POD X3 Live/Pro and GearBox 3.72 software, you will experience a condition where the "Don't Force Model" message appears and will not allow for you to save Variax Model associations to your X3 Live/Pro patch. The current workaround is to save JTV model associations manually (without GearBox open) after you've performed any GearBox-related patch edits/organization. This behavior does not exist with POD HD500 via HD500 Edit; only with the older X3 Live/Pro (GearBox) editing scheme. We apologize for the inconvenience to JTV and X3 Live/Pro owners wishing to use the software editing aspect for Variax model-X3Live/Pro patch associations at this time.
  11. The GearBox Plug-In (AU, RTAS, VST) Effect license and software support has been discontinued since the release of POD Farm Plug-In Version 1.00 on October 29, 2008. Line 6 has not tested the GearBox Plug-In functionality with any newer DAW version releases since October of 2008. If you are experiencing issues trying to get the Plug-In Effect to work properly in current recording software programs, please use the latest version of POD Farm Plug-In software instead. For new users with no previous Line 6 USB hardware or license purchase history, the option in 2011 for a Line 6 amp modelling Plug-In Effect is to purchase the POD Farm 2.5 license and run that software version. NOTE: GearBox "Standalone" software usage is still currently supported for GuitarPort Online subscribers.
  12. GearBox Plug-In license sales were halted upon the introduction of our POD Farm Version 1 Plug-In licenses back in the Fall of 2008. However, the GearBox software installer STILL contains the GearBox Plug-In file, because we still have end users who had purchased the GearBox Plug-In license prior to the Fall of 2008 who are still using said effect in their recording applications. If you are a new or recent user who has downloaded the GearBox 3.72 Installer and run this package, you will still see the GearBox Plug-In option appear in your recording program the next time you launch it, as most DAW's scan for new Plug-In files installed by default. If you wish to delete your GearBox Plug-In file (to avoid confusion), please remove the GearBox .dll file found in: Windows VST: C:\Program Files\Line6\VstPlugIns\Line 6 Windows RTAS: C:\Program Files\Common\Files\Digidesign\DAE\Plug-Ins\Line 6 Mac AU: Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > Components Mac RTAS: Library > Application Support > Digidesign > Plug-Ins > Line 6 Unless you purchased the optional GearBox license prior to the Fall of 2008, please note that only POD Farm and POD Farm 2 Plug-In licenses are available for purchase through our Line 6 Webstore.
  13. This release of Gearbox Standalone adds support for Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.6. GearBox Plug-In Support does not apply, please see the following knowledge base article for more details: Gearbox Plug-in Effect: Discontinued New features/changes/fixes in this release: The currently released drivers and Line 6 Monkey with Windows 7 and Snow Leopard support are bundled with this GearBox package. A minor bug which could cause the tonedirect volume to be set to 0 with some patches was fixed. You can download the latest Gearbox release at: http://line6.com/software/ System Requirements: WINDOWS® Pentium® 4, 1.2GHz or better (2.5Ghz or higher recommended) Windows® XP® (with SP2 or better) or Windows® Vista® (32 bit and 64 bit versions are supported) 512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended) 1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording) USB 1.1 or 2.0 port on computer for connecting Line 6 hardware (USB 2.0 port is required for TonePort UX8 and POD X3 family devices) Internet connection required for activation (once activated, Internet connection is not required, except for access to optional Guitar Port Online membership service). Host application that supports RTAS* or VST Plug-ins (for optional GearBox RTAS/VST Plug-In) MACINTOSH® Intel® or Power PC® based G4 1.5GHz or better (G4 1.67 or better recommended) OS X 10.4 or better 512MB RAM minimum (1GB or more recommended) 1GB free HD space minimum (10GB or more recommended for recording) USB 1.1 or 2.0 port on computer for connecting Line 6 hardware (USB 2.0 port is required for TonePort UX8 and POD X3 family devices) Internet connection required for activation (once activated, Internet connection is not required, except for access to optional Guitar Port Online membership service). Host application that supports RTAS* or AU Plug-ins (for optional GearBox RTAS/AU Plug-In) Known Issues: Master and Record section controls of GearBox app stay active in Tuner mode. They will have no audible effect in Tuner mode, but the application will re-sync all parameters when exiting Tuner mode. GearBox will not always save the correct amp model and/or settings when transferring to an X3 unit. The work-around at this point is to edit a parameter (i.e. move the volume knob up and then back to the original position), and then the tone will store/transfer correctly. GearBox Player will not playback .m4a files. You will need to convert them into .mp3 files. Changing Variax models during ‘Tone Transfer’™ with GearBox can cause MIDI device timeout error- please allow Tone Transfer to complete before changing Variax models. GearBox vocal presets default POD X3 input to guitar instead of mic due to them being created prior to POD X3 hardware - the input can be changed once the tone is loaded. GearBox application does not prompt save on application exit - users must remember to save changed tones before exiting the application. GearBox application defaults to Variax Electric panel. If an acoustic or bass is connected, please select the proper Variax type manually to sync software to the attached Variax. Rapid switching of Variax via 5 way selector switch on the guitar can cause the application to fall out of sync with the currently selected Variax model. Tones can get out of sync between POD X3 and Gearbox when doing special case tone selection. This includes tone swap, Lock Tone loading, and choosing to only load Tone 1 or Tone 2 of a patch from the X3 hardware. Please use the GearBox software to choose tones, or double click a different tone in the editor to resync the app and hardware. Gearbox reverts back to American Punk preset upon new launch if last tone is not saved before closing the application. Mac® OS X Exclusive Issues Typing in GuitarPort Online text fields causes system alert sounds. Player cannot open mono audio files. Drive knob redraw in GearBox can be sluggish when controlling Drive from X3 hardware. Turning the knob in GearBox software does not result in sluggish response, only from hardware.
  14. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: We're sad to say that GuitarPort Online is no longer accepting new subscriptions, and will be closing its doors on July 31st, 2012. Why is GuitarPort going away? Since the release of GuitarPort Online, many other companies have started offering downloadable music that can be used for practicing and jamming. This competition challenged our business model, and we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that we can no longer maintain GuitarPort Online according to our high standards. To help you continue enjoying your favorite content, we have moved the lessons over to Spider Online and given you a complimentary subscription to this site. We're also happy to give you the POD Farm 2.5 plug-in (a $99 value), which delivers a collection of classic amps, cabs and effects to complement your GuitarPort hardware. Details Annual Subscriptions Annual subscriptions received a prorated refund for the remaining unused time of what was paid for the full year. Saved Jam Tracks If you have GuitarPort Online jam tracks saved to your computer, they expired after July 31st, 2012, and you will not be able to use them any longer. Hardware Line 6 will continue supporting your GuitarPort hardware until September 2014, so keep on rocking with the included guitar amp and cab models, stompboxes and studio effects. Your GuitarPort is still useful as an audio interface. Getting more out of your GuitarPort device 1. The GuitarPort is a USB audio input/output (I/O) interface. It handles both the input of your guitar into the computer AND processed amp/effect modeling tones. You need to connect your headphones or powered computer speakers into the 1/8" or RCA output jacks of the GuitarPort to hear its output. 2. The amp/effects modelling occurs in our software applications, GearBox 3.72 and POD Farm 2.5, both available at http://line6.com/software/. Use the "Software" category down-arrow and select the desired software installer from the drop-down list. GearBox: Amp/Effects Modelling. Was also the Line 6 GuitarPort Online (GPO) subscription service software interface. POD Farm: Amp/Effects Modelling. Dual Tone path processing feature. Functions in standalone mode only with the GuitarPort hardware device. 3. The GuitarPort device can be used as an interface with most recording programs. Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm/), Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and Riffworks T4 (http://www.sonomawireworks.com/T4/) are a few you can try for free.
  15. GearBox 3.72 is the most current version of our amp/effects modelling software editor for compatible USB hardware devices. Download the bundled installation file from our Downloads page at: http://line6.com/software/ From the "Software" drop-down list, select GearBox. Click on the red "GO" button to the right. On the following page, the most current version of our bundled installer should be at the top of the list. Version 3.72 is the most current as of this document. Click "Get Download", then accept the licensing agreement. Choose: "Save" to begin transferring the bundled installation file to your local hard drive. Once this file has been completely saved, find it on your hard drive. Make sure your USB hardware device is NOT connected yet. Double click the GearBox installer file to begin installation of bundled components (USB Device Drivers, Line 6 Monkey*, GearBox Editor and optional Plug-In files). Please read through the manual by selecting the "F1" key when gearbox is open. You can also save the PDF file on your computer for later viewing ot dowmload it at the following link: Gearbox 3.72 manual Line 6 Monkey is a USB device firmware/flash memory utility application only. It will enable you to update the firmware and flash memory (if available on your device). For certain devices (PODxt/X3), it can also archive patch bundles and restore saved patch bundles. GearBox is the current Amp/Effect modelling software editor application for the following USB Audio Interface devices: GuitarPort, TonePort, POD Studio, PODxt and POD X3 series devices. With it, you can do the following two primary functions: Open up saved (and downloaded) .l6t patches from your hard drive for editing. Afterwards, you can re-save the modified patch file back to your hard drive or sync/transfer the patch to your USB hardware device connected. ***NOTE: POD Farm 2 tone files will NOT load into the Gearbox software. The top-half of GearBox is where you can select Stomp, Amp Model, EQ, Modulation, Delay, Reverb parameters and adjust them via mouse-click/drags to affect the input signal on your connected USB hardware device in real-time.
  16. TonePort UX8 Frequently Asked Questions Q: Is TonePort UX8 an audio interface or software? Does it record? A: TonePort UX8 is a USB audio interface. Every TonePort audio interface works with the included GearBox modeling software as an integrated hardware/software system. The TonePort device gets audio signals into your computer and GearBox software makes everything you record sound amazing. TonePort UX8 is a unique integration of professional hardware and amp and effects modeling software. Designed with high quality electrical components and a rugged exterior, TonePort UX8 provides a wide dynamic range and an exceedingly low noise floor. The UX8, like every TonePort device, works together with the included GearBox software as an integrated hardware/software system, making everything you record sound amazing. Additionally, TonePort UX8 features Line 6's exclusive ToneDirect Monitoring, which lets you hear your GearBox-processed signal instantaneously, providing unmatched responsiveness while you record. Q: What is ToneDirect monitoring? A: ToneDirect monitoring allows you to monitor a fully processed signal with extremely low latency, regardless of the buffer size of your recording application. This means that there is an incredibly small delay between when you play a note and when you actually hear the sound from your speakers. This is unusual among audio interfaces because with other more traditional monitoring solutions, you either have to listen to processed audio with significant latency, often such that it is hard to play along with what you are recording or listen to a signal with no processing. It's uninspiring to say the least to hear completely dry electric guitar with no amp, cab, or effect processing. Q: What is GearBox? A: GearBox is the standalone software application that works with your TonePort audio interface, providing everything you need to record professional sounding tracks. GearBox contains models of vintage and modern amps, speaker cabinets, stompbox and studio effects for guitar, bass and vocals and can be applied while recording to any pair of inputs. Q: Can I apply Gearbox effects to all 8 inputs at once? A: Yes, using the Gearbox plug-in that is included with the UX8. Q: Will Gearbox be able to record at 96K? A: The UX8 driver can process audio at 96K, but Gearbox operates at 48K. Gearbox converts the 96k signal from the UX8 driver, converts it to 48k, processes it, then sends the signal to the UX8 driver, which then converts the signal to 96k. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 without the GearBox software? A: Yes, you can use the TonePort hardware without GearBox software. Q: Can you re-amp with UX8? A: Not the same way you can with a PODxt, but you can via the GearBox Plug-In. The method for re-amping with a PODxt is pointed out in Knowledge Base document 3940. Q: What is GearBox Plug-In? A: GearBox Plug-In is a VST, AU and RTAS plug-in, providing the same models as the standalone application and additional flexibility when mixing and mastering. Q: Is the GearBox Plug-In included with TonePort UX8? A: Yes, it is. Q: Are TonePort UX8 and GearBox Intel Mac compatible? A: Yes, they are. Q: What recording software can I use with TonePort UX8? A: Every TonePort supports the ASIO standard on Windows and Core Audio on the Macintosh and should work well with any recording application that supports one of these protocols. The UX8 is designed to work with most major applications such as ProTools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar and Ableton Live. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 and GearBox processing as a front end for Pro Tools? A: Yes, if your Pro Tools® hardware interface has a S/PDIF input you can run the stereo S/PDIF output of your TonePort UX8 directly into your Pro Tools hardware, complete with ToneDirectâ„¢ monitoring and GearBox processing. You can also utilize the Pro Tools compatible RTAS-format GearBox Plug-In for mixing and mastering. Q: Is RiffWorks 2 Line 6 Edition compatible with TonePort UX8? A: No, RiffWorks Line 6 and Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition are not compatible with the UX8. However, the Standard Edition (full version) of Riffworks available for purchase through the Sonoma WireWorks website: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/. Q: Can I expand the model set of TonePort UX8 with Line 6 Model Packs? A: Yes, you can. They are available as optional Model Pack purchases from our online Store. Q: Can I transfer model packs that I purchased on another Line 6 hardware device over to my new UX8? A: Yes. Once you've purchased a model pack license key, that key remains with your user account indefinitely. You cannot, however have two or more different registered hardware devices running the same model pack simultaneously. Only one hardware device can have the model pack installed on it at any given time. Q: Do the gain controls on the front panel control the line input jacks on the back of the unit? A: The gain controls the input level of the XLR inputs, not the instrument cable inputs (as these are assuming line level and most instruments will have their own level control). Q: What do the VU meters do on TonePort UX8? A: The GearBox application allows you to assign the signal that is monitored by the VU meters to various audio sources: including input, record send, output and monitor levels. Q: How accurate are the VU meters on the UX8 in relation to the meters in the software? A: Very accurate, with the smallest of variance between Gearbox and the physical meters. Q: What will happen if my signal clips the unbalanced analog input on the UX8? A: The clipping will be a "natural clipping". The cure is to lower the incoming signal at the source. Q: How many Instruments/Mics can I record at one time? Since you are monitoring directly out of the UX8, am I going to experience any latency when recording all 8 inputs? A: 8 inputs can be recorded at any given time. Outputs 1 & 2 are monitored via ToneDirect, with the remaining outputs monitored from the hardware at near zero latency. Q: Can the phantom power from the UX8 damage my dynamic mic? A: No, it will not. Q: What is the signal to noise ratio on the analog inputs? A: The UX8 has an input signal to noise ratio of .005% THD, with a dynamic range of 111 dB. Q: What do flashing lights on the unit mean? A: The LED status indicators (Main Mute and Main Clip LEDs provide secondary functions in their ability to indicate the connection status of USB and S/PDIF) as follows: No USB connection: The main clip LEDs alternate steadily between left and right, about once every second. The USB cable may be unplugged or the UX8 driver may not be installed on your computer. No S/PDIF clock sync: The Mute LED blinks 3 times rapidly about once every second when the clock mode set to S/PDIF, and no external clock is present. Q: What are the dimensions and weight of the UX8? A: The UX8 is a standard two-unit rack space module, with dimensions of 17"w x 7"d (8" with knobs) x 3.5"h. The shipping weight is 11.6 lbs. Known Issues: An incompatibility for systems running on Intel ICH10 USB Chipsets; UX8 will hang the user's computer system. The solution for this is to use a PCI USB 2.0 interface card to connect UX8. Record buss mis-routing of UX8 in Gearbox when recording into DAW Gearbox is remembering POD Farm 1 and 2 Record send settings if PF (1 or 2) was used before Gearbox program. Workaround is to reset the Record Send settings that were made in POD Farm 1 or 2, or to reboot the computer.
  17. Q: How do I use the Gearbox stand-alone program to record into ProTools? A: Both the Line 6 TonePort hardware (GX/UX1/UX2/KB37) and the ProTools hardware (MBox) will need to be connected to your CPU via USB. ProTools needs the MBox designated as the soundcard on the computer (input and output audio device for the computer). The Line 6 TonePort USB device will need the latest Monkey, drivers, firmware, and GearBox installed on the host computer. Plug the instrument into the Toneport ¼” input. Take the Toneport analog output into the Mbox ¼ line input. Set the MBox controls as you normally would for gain structure. You will now be able to use the Gearbox stand-alone program processing into your ProTools recording application. Q: How can I automate the Gearbox Plug-In in ProTools? A: It is possible to automate the Gearbox Plug-In in ProTools. The directions below will take you step by step through the automation process. Launch a new track in Protools: Track/New/Create. Arm your audio track for recording and record your audio. Once your audio is recorded launch the GearBox Plug-In and instantiate it on your audio track: Window/Mix/Insert Selector A/Plug-In/Other/Gearbox. Once the GearBox Plug-In is launched dial-in or call up the tone that you want. You'll notice at the top of the plug-in GUI there is a button marked "Auto". Clicking on the "Auto" button will open up an interface that lists all of the paramaters that can be automated by ProTools in the GearBox Plug-In. Choose the parameters you want to automate and click on the "Add" button in the middle of the interface. Once you've selected all of the parameters you want to automate, click OK. In your audio track change the Automation Mode Selector button from "Read" to "Write". DISARM YOUR AUDIO TRACK FOR RECORDING. Click the play button on your global transport controls in ProTools and WITH YOUR MOUSE, MANUALLY ADJUST THE PARAMETERS YOU PREVIOUSLY SELECTED FROM THE "AUTO" FEATURE IN THE PLUG-IN INTERFACE. When you play back your track you'll notice that your automation was recorded. The knobs in the GearBox Plug-In should be moving on their own. To verify further click the "Waveform" button in your audio track, scroll down to "(FX A) Gearbox" and click on the automated parameter or parameters. The automation settings should display over your recorded waveform in your audio track.*
  18. The GearBox Gold Plug-In Bundle contains the same models that are found in Line 6's flagship product, the Vetta II, plus it adds the Bass Expansion model pack. In essence, the Gold Bundle includes every model that Line 6 offers. The Silver Bundle had the same standard set of amp models found in the GuitarPort and TonePort. Some of the models included with the PODxt family of devices are not found in the TonePort, GuitarPort or the Silver Bundle unit. As of August 1st, 2008, all TonePort DI-Silver Bundle devices receive a complimentary free update to Gold Bundle status. Below is a brief summary of how model pack combinations added to the GuitarPort, TonePort or Silver bundle devices compare to those devices that include more models: Power Pack models update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver/POD Studio model set to match the PODxt/PODxt Pro model set. Power Pack and the FX Junkie model packs update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver model set to match the PODxt Live model set. Power Pack, plus the FX Junkie, Collector Classic, and Metal Shop (collectively known as the Triple Pack) model packs update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver model set to match the Vetta II model set. Power Pack, the Triple Pack and the Bass Expansion models update the GuitarPort/TonePort/Silver/POD Studio model set to match the Gold Bundle model set. The model sets used with the GuitarPort, TonePort and PODxt family devices are not VST plug-in ready when purchased. The online purchase and activation of the POD Farm 2.5 plug-in is necessary to use them as plug-in effects in a DAW/recording program. 20. The GearBox Plug-In License was only available as an Optional/Add-On purchase prior to 2009. After POD Farm Plug-In was launched, we stopped selling the GearBox Plug-In License altogether and it has since been discontinued and is no longer supported. If you purchased an older TonePort DI-Silver, TonePort DI-Gold, TonePort UX8 device then you will still have access to the GearBox Plug-In feature, since this was embedded into the aforementioned devices. POD Studio Devices will not have GearBox Plug-In capabilities, only POD Farm Plug-In. A: No. You will need to either transfer the license from unit A to unit B, or purchase separate Gearbox plug-ins for each Line 6 device you want to use the plug-in with. Q: Why I am hearing a dry guitar signal when I use the plug-in? A: Your DAW or non-Line 6 hardware may have an "input mute" that will need to be enabled when using the plug-in to avoid hearing the dry input signal. Q: My Plug-Ins aren't showing up in the recording application? A: Please keep in mind that some recording applications including Logic and Sonar will have to run a Plug-In scan before you can use your plug-in. You will need to refer to your recording application's user manual to find out where your plug in scan resides in the application. Q: I am not seeing the tuner as an option when I am using the plug-in? A: There is no tuner function in gearbox when used as a plug-in. However; the tuner will function normally in a stand-alone application. Q: Where is the Gearbox Plug-In located? A: Depending on the host computer's operating system: Windows XP/Vista: C:\Program Files\Line6\PlugIns Mac OSX: MacIntosh HD/Library/Audio/PlugIns/Components Q: How do view the Gearbox Plugin in Garageband? A: Open Garage band Create a "new track" (the addition icon in the lower left hand corner) Select "basic track", and choose "gearbox" on the right side of the window under "effects". Open the track you have created (it will be titled "track info"). On the bottom left you will see "effects". The gearbox plug in will be found toward the bottom of the dropdown menu. Be sure to enable the effect with the check mark on the left of the menu. On the right side of "manual", select the "edit the effect" (which will have a pencil icon). You will now be able to edit your gearbox plug in. Q: How do I use Plug-Ins in Cubase 4.01? A: In Cubase 4.01 Steinberg has implemented version 3.0 VST plug-ins. Since most third party plug-ins (Gearbox included) are in a 2.4 version, the Gearbox plug-ins will be found in the "Earlier VST PlugIns" menu option. Q: I am operating a Steinberg product (i.e. Cubase, Nuendo) on a Mac, why am I not seeing my Gearbox plugins? A: Steinberg products only use VST format plug-ins for both Windows and Mac operating systems. Line 6 does not support the use of VST plug ins on the Mac OS at this time. Q: I am working in Sonar, how do the presets change when moved to FX Bins? A: In order for your Gearbox Plug-In to not change presets when dragging from one effects field to another, please "Control Drag" by holding down your control button and left clicking, and then holding your mouse and dragging. You'll see that when you do this your presets will no longer change. Q: My Application freezes or crashes when saving in VST menu? A: At this time, the Gearbox Plug-In does not support saved VST format "presets". Upon saving and loading a tone or preset, please use the Tone File Menu in the Gearbox plug-in located to the right of the tone "name" window. Q: How do I use the TonePort DI as dongle with USB Hubs? A: Line 6 does not support the use of powered USB hubs at this time. When using your TonePort DI as a dongle or input device for your Plug-ins, please connect directly to a USB port on your computer. This will ensure the plug-ins will run smoothly and effectively. Q: Plug-In hardware connected after saving DAW session? A: If your plug-ins default to the Clean Guitar Tone preset upon launching a saved DAW session then it is possible you do not have your activated Gearbox Plug-In hardware connected. Please close out of your saved DAW session, connect your activated Gearbox plug- in hardware, and relaunch your saved DAW session. You will now see that your saved Gearbox Plug-In tones will now appear correctly in your session. Q: If I use my PODxt family device as my "dongle" after downloading the plug-in pack, will I get the Mic Preamp models? A: The Mic preamp models will be available from within the Gearbox Plug-In when using your PODxt device as a dongle. Q: Can I control the Gearbox Plug-In with my PODxt or FBV controller? A: At this time it is not possible to control the Gearbox Plug-In parameters with your PODxt or controller. Some end users have had success by assigning control of a specific effect (i.e. wah or bender) to their effects control in their recording application. Q: Can I control the GearBox Plug-in via MIDI? A: The GearBox plug-in does not support the use of MIDI to control its parameters directly at this time. Applications such as Ableton Live can control the plug-in with a MIDI controller, because it can map MIDI controller data to its plug-in parameters. There is no current work around for ProTools since it does not map MIDI controller data to plug-in parameters. We understand the value of this function and are looking forward to implementing it in the future. Q: How do I remove the Gearbox plug-in from my computer? A: Depending on the host computer's operating system: XP/Vista: Run the Line 6 Uninstaller & select "All Components": Start/All Programs/Line6/Tools/Line 6 Uninstaller Mac OSX: Please follow the following file path and delete the GearboxAU.component file: Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components/GearBoxAU.component
  21. Pedal Inputs The pedal inputs on the UX2 and KB37 are for momentary switches only (like the keyboard sustain pedal used with a synthesizer or digital piano). They're used to step up and down through presets or to control start/stop and other MIDI Machine Control functions (MMC) audio recording application Transport Controls. Other parameters can be controlled within the software, but to do that you need an external MIDI source (like a programmable MIDI foot controller plugged into your computer's MIDI interface). GearBox Wah Control In GearBox under Edit/Preferences/Midi tab select your midi interface ports IN and OUT. Set your midi controller pedal to CC# (continues controller number) to CC# 4. This should engage the wah function in GearBox.
