I have a serious problem setting up my signal chain. I'm using a HD500 connected to a DT50 Head via Line6 Link. The signal chain is Guitar in - Noisgate - Wah -Amp Pre Model (-Delay -Reverb) -DT50 For some strange reason the effects post the amp simulation won't work. They show up correctly in the HD500 edit software are turned on etc. but have no effect. Putting them before the amp works.... but sounds terrible. Seems to me like I miss some little detail that i just can't see.... HELP !

I am still learning stuff on my Pod HD500 and one question that I have is regarding the use of the HD500 as a midi controller. Basically, would it be possible to use the pedal to control loops from a PC while still using the effects from the pedal? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hello, There has been discussion about headphones and the required impedance. I recently acquired an hd500 and was a bit skeptical about the requirement of high >300ohm impedance headphones. I had a Sennheiser Amperior hedaphones, these are quite neutral, closed back, easy to drive low impedance headphones (18ohm). They cost about 150-200 euro. When paired with the hd500 I thought the sound was not bad, but the limited soundstage of closed back headphones made the sound quite congested. The worst was that I got random disgusting noises that I thought were caused by ground loops when connecting the pod to the computer. Then I bought a Sennheiser Hd600, these are quite neutral too, but are 300 ohm and quite difficult to drive and open back. The sound now is really open, like if you were listening to an amp in a room, and best of all, there was no trace of the disgusting digital noises I had with the Amperiors. I bought them on amazon for 220 euros- I tested with my IEMs, vsonic gr04, that are quite neutral-middle centric with low impedance, and I got the noises back. Although they have greater soundstage than the Amperiors, they sounded fatiguing and congested too. So, IMHO, if you have to choose headphones to use with the POD’s HD: · Try to get high impedance headphones as Line6 recommends. · Open Back headphones will give you more open sound and a feel closer to playing through an amp. I hope it helps someone Nestor PS: excuse my English, it’s not my native language…

Does HD500 and HD500X have same dimension where I can get a soft case for it??

Is there anyone using full amps with their HD500(X) and DT-25 or DT-50? I had great trouble finding great high gain sounds at high volume on this combination. After a long search for great tone I ended up using double cab tones with a Line6 drive in front of the amps (drive to 0). This finally gave me some really great high gain tones that held up at gig volume. Even though I was really happy with the tones I naturally went on trying to improve them anyways. Now I am experimenting with using the full amps instead of pre-amps and it seems to me the amps come to life even more this way. At rehearsal it also seemed to hold up. Does anybody have any experience using full amps at gig volume? What are your finding?

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been having some problems with a couple of patches. I would select a patch and it would be at a very low volume (all my patches were previously leveled). All other patches except are at the correct volume. I have flashed the firmware and re-installed the set to no avail. I did notice something weird. If I double click one of the 2 patches in HD Edit, the volume increases to normal level. If I change away from the patch using the foot switches and come back to the same patch, it is low again. Anyone have any insights to the problem?

I've just completed my Dream Rig with the purchase of a shiny new L3m, no DT. I was playing around to get my patches to sound right when it occurred to me that there are a lot of you guys who have already gone through that pain and nailed their tones. I have looked through Customtone and a lot of the Dream Rig patches are to be used with a DT amp so are only of limited use. It would be great if there was a resource for us 'Stagesource Dream Riggers'- there is no apparent way to search for this type of thing in Customtone so how about sharing in this thread? I will get some of the patches I have tweaked on the thread when I get home from work. I'm currently on a (ahem) break......

I use Cubase to record guitar via POD HD500. I want to connect POD by USB and have ability to listen to a backing track from Winamp. Correct me if I'm wrong: 1. There's no way to send multiple audio sources to an audio card if you use ASIO. Which means if you connect POD via USB, you cannot hear guitar sound sent through Cubase (first source) and backing track from Winamp (second source). 2. You can, however, connect POD via Line In to an audio card and listen to both. Input signal from Line In is mixed internally by an audio card with signal from Windows kxmixer. ASIO in that case is not needed. Now a question: 3. If I have two audio cards in my PC, can I process signal from POD USB by first card, daisy chain both cards (Line Out to Line In) and then mix resulting signal on the second card and send output signal to speakers? This essentially means that Windows will have to send POD signal to first card and kxmixer signal to the second. I don't know if it's even possible. I'll probably need some signal routing software to accomplish that. Thoughts?

I'm currently using a 1 x 12 50w Marshall tube amp with an HD500 and JTV 59. I'm convinced about the whole FRFR rig concept, especially as I play in a band covering everything from Metallica to mellow acoustic and need the versatility. The only thing I'm worried about is whether the L3 packs enough of a punch compared to my 50w Marshall. I'd really appreciate comments from you guys, especially those who have gone FRFR. Is the L3 loud enough??

Hi All! This is my first post to the forums so I thought I'd share my main HD 500 patch. I use this patch for recording and live direct to front of house and it covers pretty much everything I need really well. I really love this tone! Thanks L6! :-) Here's a screen shot of my patch setting: *Ok I checked it out and uploaded this to Customtone: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/219961/

Hey there everyone, Just acquired a DT25 (actually a pair of them) to complete our dream rig and are attempting to implement the DT25's. The DT's will replace a pair of venerable old (and thoroughly road-tested) Tech 21 PE60's. They will be used for stage volume and our plan is to tap the XLR direct out on the DT25's to go to the FOH console, just like we've been doing via the PE60's. We are hoping for a stage volume output that IS the same as we send to the FOH - in the PE60's, it's "pretty" close, but it's not the same. Our gear and our plan: We have 2 JTV59's (a Korean and a USA), two POD HD's (an HD500 and a HD Pro) and now the two DT25's. Our plan is to facilitate either a single dream rig with stereo-DT25's, or two separate one-amp-DT25 dream rigs - depending on the performance requirements. We're just getting started on the full Dream Rig setup (although we've been using the JTV's and the POD HD's for a while with the PE60's) - so, apologies in advance for what will probably seem like easy questions for you experienced Dream Rig guys. Situation: In following the manual for connecting the HD500 to the DT25 via L6 Link, we noticed that the suggested amp model is the PRE version, rather than the full version. Question1: What is the difference in the PRE amp model and the full amp - we have never used the PRE models for anything.... But we've never had the DT25's until now. Question 2: We will need to tap the direct-out of the DT25 and route it to the FOH console - same as we've doing on the PE60's. If we use a PRE model as the manual suggests, will the signal tapped from the back of the amp (XLR direct out) be fully-baked with the amp model, effects, etc. - or is it something more akin to a dry signal? We do need the fully-baked signal. Question 3: We didn't have access to AES/EBU cables last night when we connected the DT25's to the HD500 and used Prolink Mic cables instead. Amp A seemed to be getting all the right settings, but Amp B wasn't responding to topology changes sent via the HD500. We reversed the amp order and also tried different cables to make sure it wasn't a bad cable, or something wrong with the amp - but the result was the same. Question: Is this the type of glitch that causes Line 6 to recommend AEX/EBU cables rather than standard (albeit high quality) mic cables? Thanks in advance for helping us out here. Bradley

I have a question about the audio over USB functionality of the HD500X. I use a audio interface when I'm recording and use plug ins, and I use the HD500X for live work. The other day I was experimenting with using the HD500X as an audio interface and incorporating Ableton Live into my live rig. Since then whenever I plug the USB into my laptop it mutes the analog outs of the HD500X and audio is only passed through USB. I don't remember changing anything specifically to make this happen, and I'm not sure how to undo it. I don't mind being able to choose whether audio gets passed via USB or analog outs when connected, I just can't figure out how to change it :) I haven't messed with it much since this happened, and I haven't tried re installing the driver yet. Any suggestions?

Apologies in advance if this has been addressed before. I tried several keyword searches and did not find this discussed here. I use a different brand of floor multi-fx and amp modeler, because I almost always use two guitars during shows or church services; I appreciate the simplicity and repeatability of a single signal chain. I create "from scratch" presets for each guitar, then use "stomp box mode" to layer individual fx as needed. I recently bought a JTV-59, which I love. It has become my main electric. I'm intrigued by the added possibilities of connecting it to an HD500 or 500X using the Variax input. However, I prefer my "real" acoustic guitars over the Variax, so I still need to switch guitars. My question: can I use the multiple inputs of an HD500 or X to switch between guitars, without any additional outboard gear? Specifically, I want to connect the JTV to the Variax input, and an "analog" guitar to the Guitar input. When I activate a Variax preset, it would mute the Guitar input. When I activate an acoustic preset, it would mute the Variax. I would also need access to the tuner for either guitar, with the output muted while tuning. Does anyone know if this is possible? And is there a difference between the oriinal 500 and the 500X in this regard? I've read through the HD500 & X product info, Pilot Guides and Advanced Guides, but they all seem to assume that you only connect one guitar to the POD. There is almost no info about how to make effective use of the Pod's multiple inputs. Thanks, Rob

I was just playing around with workbench and HD edit and I thought of something I think would be a cool idea. Add HD500(X)/JTV functionality of assigning controls to certain positions of the JTV's pickup selector. For example you could assign a distortion box to the bridge position of the JTV patch. When you switch from the neck pickup to the bridge pickup it automatically would turn on the distortion box. There are countless more examples you could use with this functionality, but I think this explains it. If anyone thinks it's a useful idea here's the link to the ideascale page. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Ability-to-change-HD500-X-settings-with-Variax-pickup-selector/623066-23508?submitted=1

Hello peoples of the Line 6 forum, I have some questions about the MIC input/output and routing on the HD500X: Is it possible to route the signal from the Mic Input to one of the Balanced Outputs, while simultaneously running the Instrument Input to one of the Unbalanced (1/4") outputs, so that when I play gigs I can route my mic through the pedal and give the FOH guy the Mic output separately from the instrument output (which I would give him from the DI in my amp, further down the signal chain, due to using more effects)? They key thing is I'm curious about keeping the instrument and mic outputs separate, so the channels can stay discrete on the FOH mixing board. Related to that, when using the Vocoder, will the effected sound pass through both the instrument and Mic outputs, or just one or the other? I.e. if running my instr and mic through the HD500X as separate channels (assuming that can be done), when I turn on the vocoder, will I hear the output through my instrument output only, the Mic/PA output only, or both? Finally, does anyone know if the HD500X will have additional effects/packages that can be applied to it? I'm a bassist, and it's very light on bass-specific stuff. I've always had an issue with buying pedalboards because they don't seem really futureproof sometimes. It would be nice if this platform will be somewhat expandable. Thank you!

I downloaded Lincoln Brewster's official HD500 presets from here http://www.lincolnbrewster.com/podpatches/ And specifically, the one named Lincoln_Brewster_Main_2012.h5e For some reason, this preset is much much louder than any preset I create myself without messing too much with the volume settings. I've turned off every effect/amp block and checked all of the levels, including DEPs and none are really any different than any settings I use in my patches, and this patch is still much louder than any of my patches. The only difference I can see is that at the mixer he has both R and L set to Center instead of the default !00% Left and 100% Right. Changing that makes some difference, but it seems like the volume difference is more than just that. I also changed the extension to .5xe to import on my HD500X. That shouldn't make any difference, should it? Is there something else I'm missing, or does centering the Mixer block actually really make that much difference in overall volume without actually changing any volume parameters?

Mags And Models Blended Problem
radatats posted a topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
With the great new firmware I have finally had a chance to play around with Workbench while connected to HD Edit and the JTV/POD/DT rig. Really happy with what can be done now. Finally realized what many had been saying about adjusting string volumes and it really helps to bring out string definition during play. However,I tried using the blending feature at the bottom left of Workbench and a strange problem has come up. No matter what model or mag combination I try, if I blend the mags in say to 50%, my D string sounds like it is actually a different model to the rest. For instance with Lester 1 and HB pup on my 69 - Play a scale up from the bottom E and it sounds fine on E and A, rich, warm, but as soon as I hit the D string it sounds like a Strat/single coil. G,B,E all back to the Lester/HB tone. Turn off the mags, it sounds Lester all the way up, turn off the models it sounds Lester all the way up, blend them together and D string quacks. Similar stiuation with other models and pup combinations too. it's not a big deal really, I don't plan on making use of this blending feature other than goofing off, but I would like to know if anyone else experiences anything similar. Other than that I am very happy with this latest update, I almost feel like I have a new guitar in my hands, it sounds that much better to me. The whole package has suddenly come to life. -
Hi all, I haven't posted in a million years, but I'm looking for some help. I have a tone I love from back when I played through a PodxtPro. It looks pretty simple, but I've never been able to reproduce that tone on my HD500. I can set everything on the HD500 to match the settings on the PodxtPro except for the Compressor. I can't seem to dial in the compressor with any of the options we have on the HD500 here's the tone Any Ideas would be appreciated. I was hoping the conversion app pinned at the top of the HD Forum would help me make the jump, but it looks like it only converts between the HD models. (which would make sense) Thanks in advance Millerman Basic HiwattLDSC.l6t

HOLA! I am looking for ways to create sounds in my hd500 to be as real as possible. I mean, I want to be sure to be listening to the right thing. It happened that after editing a sound (I thought right) then I found very different in other audio systems. I know, it is normal that the systems audio sound distinct from one enclosure to another, even more if they are different systems. The aim: Same possibilities to create a sound as if a real amp in my house. Which is the best? Headphones? Professional Monitors? Home monitors? Another thing? Thank you very much to all!

I really wish Line 6 would bring back the blog. They used to have some great articles and really provided info we could use. Sure there was some fluff in there too but WTF? Why did it stop? Anyways, here are a couple more useful series they started. Doesn't look like the Guide to Home Recording quite finished but How to Record a Song and the Guide to Making YouTube Videos are complete. Guide to Home Recording - https://www.cx.com/0/io/hotlink/aoorcMpJEeOWfSICCluF4w/Guide%20to%20Home%20Recording.pdf How to Record a Song - https://www.cx.com/0/io/hotlink/gSTp1MpJEeONmiICCiuDbg/How%20to%20Record%20a%20Song.pdf Guide to Making YouTube Videos - https://www.cx.com/0/io/hotlink/mWQv2spJEeOWfSICCluF4w/Making%20Music%20Videos%20For%20YouTube.pdf Sure wish they would start this back up! Hi, Does anyone know how to load .l6t files into an HD500 or HD500x? Or could anyone convert .l6t files to be loaded into HD500 Edit or HD500x edit? I really appreciate the help! Cheers. R.T.

I am in the process of buying an HD500, have question before I do that though. The physical (drive, bass, presence, master, etc...) all control the amp of the individual preset that you have (I believe). When you are editing an amp in your preset, do you change these parameters for the preset or do the knobs apply to every amp within every preset? Example, preset 1 uses amp A with the physical bass knob at +6. Will preset 2 with amp B also have the bass set to +6? And when it's changed to +4, will that also affect all the other amps within presets? Thanks in advance!

Ok, I have had this thing for a few months. I haven't used it much...I also have a DT50 & a Pocket Pod. I can actually use the Pocket Pod live a lot just by running my normal pedals into it like I would an older amp without an fx loop. I decided to record with my HD500 & of course it needed to update. It started to do that LINE6 Loop thing at it's boot up. It wasn't hard to find where someone (many times) tells how to stop it & then, of course, update what needs to be updated. I have updated the Flash countless times using my Line 6 monkey & it wont seem to update. It'll say there's a communication problem with my device. I have used a couple of different USB cables that all work on other devices. So what's the problem & how do i fix it? I was in the middle of an edit & actually seem to have lost my "Bundle." That really sucks because I finally created what I would think is an incredible blend of a "Marshal" & a "Boogie." So...help...please...

Recently I have been having issues with volume when connecting my HD500 to my DT50 via l6 link. I lost all my patches getting my HD500 serviced, and now when I go to import my setlist back into it from HD500 Edit...The volume is EXTREMELY low after i impoort the tones. I have the Halfstack DT50, and have to roll the volume up all the way up(volume knob pushed in, not pulled out) to barely get a practice volume. there is also a little bit of a hiss like the volume should be super loud, but something is preventing it. Before i imported the patches, i did update the firmware, but from what i can tell, all my output settings are how they should be, and I also tried a different cable for the l6 link. I also know it is not a tube issue, because when you plug a guitar directly into the dt50 without the hd500 hooked up, it sounds fine. Anybody else ever experience this? thoughts? Solutions?lol

I updated my HD500 today and have real issues with creating patches. When using the POD HD500 edit software I created 3 new patches, once uploaded to the HD500 and everything OK. Closed the HD500 edit software down and all the distorted tones from the amps changed to clean tones, no matter how I adjusted the gain using the controls on the HD500. When selecting a different amp and back again the tone of the amp changed to a little distortion from the amp, but not nearly up to the levels that they were originally at. I started the HD500 edit software again and it failed to upload on start up. Uploaded the patches once I tried a second time. Tones came back to what they originally were. Closed the editor software down again and the tones changed back to how they sounded after the first upload. I tired changing the amp back and forward again on the HD500 and got the DSP limit reached. It was not a complicated patch. I then switched the power off for 5 seconds and restarted, this allowed me to change amps again to sort the issue a little, but still no joy with getting the sounds back to how the sound with the editor software
