So for those who have used gearbox and pod XT or X3 in the past ,here are some tips to making the transition of your tones to podfarm or using podfarm. this will also include using farm to enhance your tones and moving them back to your Pod XT/X3 hardware for standalone.playback. First, let address the volume difference using pod XT as an example: XT is a standalone unit obviously that runs on 9V DC and 2 amps, POD farm using GX for example is 5V DC and USB interface, which is .5 amp...quite a bit of difference. As such, what you might notice is that sounds in gearbox moved to farm are about 2/3 lower in volume. Yes you can move the volume up to 10 if your tone was 3.3 but who has there dialed in tone at that :)...it's just not a good formula. Next is to see what farm can do on its own to raise that level without too much coloration. the first thing to do is EQ and when that is not enough, the cleanest pre-amp can be added, which I found to be the coucel. I played with this testing over a weekend for hours and hours and will share what I found to be the best setup for trying to match output as it was in gearbox XT but without adjust volume as much as possible What I will show is how to start from a baseline and make volume changes only after you have exhausted all other options. If you find these settings add some small coloration then drop the settings equalty across all EQ bands and instead go after the master volume. You can also increase volume on your amp, but this is to get the tone the same through headphones so its as true to start as possible. Here are the tips: If your old XT/gearbox tone is a single path (which it should be, you can open that in farm and duplicate the track (doubles the volume 100%) this should get you really close. I feel that to absolutely match, you need to have 1 path get an EQ adjustment at the end and a preamp after the amp in the chain. see below screen shot for how this looks for your newly added preamp and EQ added to 1 path for additional boost. Circled in yellow is the additons that pod requires to help boost where the old tone was. Settings for preamp and EQ are as follows: -------------------------------- The next scenario I will describe: When you have two tones you really like and you want both in pod farm so you can merge them and mix each for best of each. In the case below I enhanced my "A" path tone which was darn near perfect but lacked what the tone in path "B" had. They are merged by letting Path "B" run through 10% and then 90% tone "A". Here you need to have a different setting for the pre-amp because each path is different and not a copy of the other. --------------------------------- Next is a tip for those that want to: Bring a setting into farm and want it back out for XT. Well remember that XT can not handle multi effects of the same type nor duel paths so you have to merge the two if that is the case. This may not end well, you need to choose the settings that represent the best of your new pod effect in 1 path and no dulicate pedals. You can only have 1 amp too...so the challenge is to toggle back and forth and see if you can represent in a single path of what two paths were giving. note: the different settings on the sine chorus Now the track down to 1 with sign chorus settings that represent all 3 as you can only have 1 in gearbox. Here I am merging former track "B" and finally the settings on the sine chorus as best representation of having 3 Maybe line6 will make a pod that can support the duel path of effect but until then you are going to have to do this or find a way to run from a tablet or something so pod is what you use live or you just live with a good enough scenario ---------------------------------------------------- The last thing I wanted to mention was the option to use a hardware boost to simulate the tone of XT. I have not purchased yet as it will add a clean boost up to 18DB for some but will run about ~$120.then, you don't have to fake it with an EQ or preamp in POD. This would be the cleanest purest way to boost but again will require a purchase. For the purpose of this post i am showing how to do it with the tools you already have. Note for some FX you may want to make sure POD sees all your model packs or can read the FX others have made with those model packs For that those that have wondered about running through the XT with the effects bypassed, the fact is you will get some static and it will add something to the tone. You are basically reprocessing it and pod is not clean when using this was through farm via ASIO (and with input as "Send Clean guitar". It's not horrible, but expect some static and less bass or warmth IMO.Your best bet is to use GX or UX-1 and amp your tone with effects in farm. I had to do a lot of back and forth comparison, and I will not claim this is perfect but is as close as my ears could detect without having to purchase additional boosting hardware. Even if you decide to boost buy buying some hardware, it's good to know to do it in software if you need it. Hopefully this gives others some incite to tone building and porting from favorite gearbox tweaked tones you may have had. I am still playing around with PODfarm and no doubt I will discover even more, but so far are impressed with the extra options I am getting. Be nice to have it really working with XT full to make adjustments with real knobs as opposed to a mouse and arrow keys, but oh well.....like I said maybe line6 will do something in the future with a next generation POD that really works close with farm as an interface and a tone transfer for standalone.

The last few sessions with own own version of a Dream Rig have been so enjoyable, I felt the need to share it here, especially sInce I have been moderately vocal about the goings on at Line6 since the Yamaha buy out. My setup is a JTV59 -> POD HD500 -> BossRC-30 Loop Station -> Tech21 Power Engine (x2). I am not gigging regularly with this setup at present, but I will likely be taking it to an upcoming open mic affair. In preparing for that, I have REALLY dug into the bowels of my rig and instead of lamenting what I perceived I couldn't do with it or otherwise focusing on it's shortcomings (real or perceived). The results have been startling to say the least, especially since I damn near sold it all off recently. The things that have made it different include: Using the Cabinet parameters, especially the Lo Cut and Early Reflections parameters. Doing this has allowed me to taylor, for example a 12" Deluxe Reverb cabinet into more of a 10" Princeton type sound. Copious use of EQ to weed out the crazy overtones and tame to signal path where it needs it. Observing the "less is more" rule of effects use. Sure, I can make whacky sounds that some of the more esoteric effects provide, but at times just a pinch is even better for that "is it really there" type of effect -- especially with modulation type effects. Using multiple delays (of multiple types) and using synchronization in sequence to provide some very tasty backdrops for looping. Stepping outside my comfort zone of prefered effects. Fotr example, I almost reflexively grab the 63 Spring reverb out of long time habit. But I have found that the Octo reverb is an exellent pad type tone to add to many of the type of sounds I do with my rig. Great dscovery there. Also, the Echo is very useful as well as Tile reverb at times. Learning to love Compression. As a long time Fender tube amp buy, I always felt that compressors stole my dynamics. But in the context of the POD, it adds so much clarity while keeping the notes discernable. I like it so much, I got an Xotic SP Compressor (with a blend knob) for my analog rig and it stays on all the time now. So I guess what I am saying is what another member said somewhere along the trail of tears that has been here recently -- "I am just going to have fun with what I have" I believe were their exact words. It's worth remembering this at all times to me, and even more so as we all wait for Line6 to establish it's new directions as a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha.

Hey just a quick question. I just started using the edit software and whenever my usb is connected to the computer, the patch switching is very slow and hiccups...the patch switches, but then there is a moment, perhaps half a second, of silence, and then the patch finally kicks in. I just wanted to make sure this is normal......however, ideally I would like to be able to leave the board connected so I can edit on the fly and save quickly as I go. Is that gonna be a possibility? One thing worth noting is that my computer is a MacBook Pro, but a 2007 model that is in otherwise perfect running order. Thanks!

Just got DT50 212 and it´s sounds great when I plug my guitar direct to it. I already have a POD HD500 so to get more about this "Dream Rig" I used L6 LINK to connect them together. The problem is how I can control the master volume, when both Master Volume is active? The manual says that the POD HD Master Volume has no effect to the signal feed to the DT Amp, but in my case both Master Volume is active. It´s very difficult to control the volume and when I try, they behave very strange - compare to if I plug directly to the amp. Someone who know this problem and have a solution? Thanks! / M

I really like the simplicity of multieffects from a cable and setup stand point so I am not a big fan of external pedals. However, this looks like the one pedal I might actually have to get... http://mybeatbuddy.com/ Seriously, a drummer in a pedal? Brilliant... What is the one pedal you are really thinking about getting?

Howdy, I have tried searching through the forum for this answer but cannot find it. I have found some people asking the same or similar question but they normally get flamed and don't get the answer they were looking for. Hopefully I can explain it in a way that will get an answer that makes sense. I want to replicate the tones I can get when plugging directly into the high input of the DT50 112 into my quad box as I really liek the tone. I have set a clean rhythm channel and a lead channel with the following settings: Clean - Channel A Drive = 1 Bass = 10 Mid = 4 Treble = 8 Precense = 4 Reverb = 4 Volume = 10 Topology = I Class = A Mode = Pentode Lead - Channel B Drive = 6 Bass = 10 Mid = 3 Treble = 8 Precense = 4 Reverb = 4 Volume = 4 Topology = IV Class = A Mode = Pentode I can obviously switch between these 2 tones and I would be fine. Problem is, I need 3 or 4 different tones at least, ranging from clean through to lead. This is where I should be able to use the HD500 to program the preamp as desired whilst using the valve poweramp of the DT50. The issue is that there is no preamp in the preamp models that matches the the preamp used when you plug directly into the DT50. Before someone tells me that I can take an existing preamp and adjust it so it sound like the DT50 because it uses the same preamp modeling, I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS. I know nothing about sag, hum and bias. I know nothing about them becasue I am not a valve amp technician. I am a guitarist. First I tried replicating the clean sound with the HD500. I chose Blackface pre but it sounds very different to my ears. I matched the topology, class, mode as well as the tone and drive settings as per the settings when I plug directly into the DT50 and I turned off cab simulation. The sound is much thinner. I did the same for the lead tone but I used the treadplate pre. Again it sounded thinner and scratchy rather than smooth with the thump in the bottom end. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone managed to replicate the tone of the DT50 using the HD500? I relaly think it would be a good idea to include a DT50 preamp tone in the list of preamps. Thanks in advance for any help.

ok so here is a patch I made for FRFR setups using a pair of awesome Dr Z's with different cabs and mics. A little Tube Compressor out front, slight delay on one amp, Digital Delay on FS3, Analog Chorus on FS2 and Chandler Tube Drive on FS1 for a nice dirt boost. No need to load a bunch of EQ's, this just sounds full and rich as is. It's setup for a Variax with the single input method but if you are using a regular guitar you may want to change input 2 to Variax. I loaded arislaf's excellent Telecaster bundle and there is a great range of tones to be had there. Great work arislaf! Running my JTV-69 through a Rocktron Velocity 300 into a pair of passive Peavey 15" PA speakers just for your reference. Give it a whirl and then share your favorite Dr Z patch... http://line6.com/customtone/tone/276315/ feedback welcome...

Last night, I was tinkering around with my old TonePort UX2 and started remembering some of the amp models that I really liked about the X3 line. One in particular I always liked was the Matchless DC-30 model. I would love to have that one for my HD500+DT25. It sounds really good running through the Greenback cabinet model with an SM-57 mic. It has really nice breakup and cleans up nice when rolling off of the guitar volume. Since I can't afford a real Matchless amp, I would love to have that pre-amp model in my HD500 to run through my DT25. That would be sweet!

I currently own JTV-69, HD500 and DT25. I'm thinking about getting L3T because I also play keyboard so I can use it not only with HD500 but also with my keys and/or mic. My question is following: Has anyone here tried to run DT25 and L3T (or any other Line6 speaker) in stereo? If so, how did you like the sound? What L3T speaker mode did you use and did you use full or pre amp versions in HD500 for L3T? I'm asking because it would be nice to be able to have stereo possibility with DT25 and L3T if I need it but I would like to know how it sounds before I buy L3T...

Ok, so the FX loop send is stereo and it says use a TRS plug. But what if I want to send a mono signal out? Do I need a TRS adapter to get both channels to go out? If I use a mono plug, does it sum to mono for me or will I only be sending one channel? I can't find any documentation on it so if anyone knows for sure, I appreciate the help...

Help! Trying to use the looper on an HD500. I press REC (FS5) and play my bit. Great. Press FS5 again and it starts playing back. Looking at the Performance view, I see "Dub In" for FS5 and "Stop" for FS6. FS6 is lit up. Now. According to the instructions, I should be able to press "Dub In" (FS5), play a bit, press "Dub Out" (FS5) again and what I just played will be mixed with the existing loop and play back for me. However, when I hit FS5, it does not change to "Dub Out" and the LED just flashes once. Nothing else happens. I hit FS5 a second time and the same thing. I don't think this is how it's supposed to work. Is there some setting that I'm missing somewhere?

Hello all, I just created a new acoustic patch for my DT25/HD500 setup. I borrowed from the "Wide Acoustic" patch included in the HD500. Made some changes and think it sounds pretty good. Check it out and let me know what you think. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/271639/

Hey everyone, Is there a way to connect to Variax Workbench HD only through the HD500 (without using the supplied USB-Variax Interface)? I've updated all firmware and drivers but can't seem to be able to get the Variax to sync with its editor via the Pod. Thanks for letting me know if this feature is available. Monty M.

New to the Dream Rig setup, but so far love it. Found a cool way to get a direct out of the Pod HD and have a mic'd DT amp sent to the FOH via one line without any extra summing pre's, mixers, etc. Check it out. Routing Acoustic Output with Variax, POD HD500, and DT Amps There's also another option, if you're wanting to bypass the DT for acoustic presets and only run 1 line to your FOH while still using your mic'd DT.. 1.) Assign input 1 source to Variax, and assign audio output 1(left) to your DT50. 2.) Make sure your mixer is hard panned left and right in all patches you intend to use. 3.) Assign input 2 to your mic input. 4.) For electric patches, only use the top signal path for guitar effects, amps, etc. 5.) Run your mic line from your mic'd amp to the HD500 mic input, and adjust the input gain accordingly 6.) Run an XLR from the right output of your POD HD to your stage snake or mixer. 7.) If necessary, you can add EQ, Compression and other effects to the lower signal path to alter the mic'd amp's signal. 8.) For acoustic patches, route the variax to input 2, and only use the lower signal path. This does add a hint more latency for electric patches since you're processing the signal twice, but it's fairly neglegable and allows you more versatility to altering and saving your sound.

I plugged my hd500 into my computer to change some settings, since then the tap delay on my pod has no light flashing, and the delay will not change by tapping. What might've I done to cause this and how can I fix it?

There's no HD500 in software updates http://line6.com/software/ what happend after this site's got new design? please see attached pic

Hello all, I am in the process of building a new studio in the house and I am considering ordering the line 6 hd500x rack. I was actually convinced I was going to get it after checking it out but after the gear lust period died down I figured I would come ask a few questions. How does this processor compare to amplitube 3 and guitar rig 5? I have been using those and I am happy however they eat up a ton of cpu after awhile and the line 6 would free this up in theory. I just want to make sure the tone is as good or at least close. I threw together a quick recording using amplitube 3 for reference (excuse the vocals and production its early and not finished writing it). Can I get a similar sound quality with line 6? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbGZibXDJUI

So whenever I use two amps in a patch on the HD500, I am unable to pan them hard left and right for true stereo sound. I have the inputs setup like this: Input 1, Guitar; Input 2, Same. Both channels in the mixer are set at 0db, which is default. The left channel, or amp "a", will pan all the way left like it should, but the right channel, amp "b", will not pan hard right like it should. I remember when I first purchased the HD500 they would pan hard left and right just fine, but now they will not. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hello, Could you tell me how to connect an additional distorsion pedal (Satchurator) with the pod HD500 and the DT25? Right after the guitar and then in front of the Pod using the link 6 to connect the pod to the DT25? Or should i use the 4 cables method ? Ty ;)

I've watched Glenn videos about wah wah but I think it still sounds very digital. Can anyone suggest how to get that rich, authentic and big wah sound on HD500? For example, the guitar solo from Dream Theater - Wither at 4:00. Thanks guys.

Hey Line 6-ers, I've been using the Four Cable Method (4CM) for a few years now with my POD HD500 and a Blackstar HT Stage 60 amp. It's been quite successful, albeit after some very careful tweaking. I've posted a video with the results on my youtube channel if you would like to view it for some context: Click Here Essentially it details a disparity between the "Guitar In" jack and the "FX Send" jack. With all things in the signal chain being set to Unity - no FX blocks and Amp Mods on Bypass - The level coming out of the FX Send jack is -2.8dB LOWER, on average, than the source signal. I tested this with a signal generator, recording the level over time, averaging it out. Then putting that signal through the POD HD500 and out the FX Send jack, recording the level over time, averaging it out - and you see the -2.8dB difference. This is consistent across any of the settings for the FX Loop Level (STOMP/LINE) meaning that the issue is not related to that level - it's internal. About 2 years after I did this in-depth analysis - I haven't seen any changes in the firmware that fixed this quirk, but I did start playing with the FX Loop Level switch and the Unbalanced Out switch - which don't make any sense to me. My questions to the Line 6 Folks: 1 - Is the 2.8dB DROP from Guitar In to FX Send deliberate - or is it a bug? Or is it because I'm using a TS cable to go to ONE amp instead of a TRS->TRS cable? 2 - Can you help me (all of us) make heads or tails of the STOMP/LINE/AMP settings with Unbalanced Out, and FX Loop - the only number actually given is the LINE level for the Unbalanced out. From what I've read of the manual: Unbalaced Out: AMP = +4dBv (this is assumed because the only number given is the LINE setting of -10dBv) LINE = -10dBv FX Loop: LINE = +4dBv (this is assumed because the manual says "higher peak-to-peak voltage, making it optimal for Line-level devices") STOMP = -10dBv (this is assumed because LINE was assumed as the +4dBV) I HAVE to be reading this incorrectly - does higher peak-to-peak voltage mean -10dBv? - why would the 2 LINE settings be different? I do know that BOTH -10dBv and +4dBv are LINE-Level, one is for Pro audio application, and the other for Consumer application. Should all 3 of my levels be set consistently? (All at -10 or all at +4?) Currently, my setup is as follows: Unbalanced Out set to AMP(+4dBv), FX Loop set to STOMP(-10dBv), and my amps loop is set to -10dBv. The Result is Loud and clear sound from the amp - but it can be a little noisy, lots of digital background white noise (probably due to dirty power in my old house - so, not faulting L6 for that.)...I can barely turn it up past 2 or it's blowing my ears out. So that means that my amp and the FX Loop are both running at -10dBv, but that the FX Return on my amp is getting a +4dBv from the Unbalanced out of the POD. If I change the Amp's FX Loop to +4dBv - very subtle change, if any at all...hardly noticeable, same thing if I change the LINE/STOMP FX Loop on the POD HD. HOWEVER if I change the Unbalanced Out on the POD HD to LINE, my volume drops significantly and the gain doubles...my clean amp channel sounds like a dimed AC30. I'm hoping this Real-World example is a helpful analysis for everyone - I'm stoked about my setup and it's super easy to gig with - This is more of an intellectual exercise for fellow nerds like me. Rock.

Today, I have read several threads of people having what I perceive as genuine quality issues with their Line6 gear, including: - Howling headphone outputs - Footswitch issues - Firmware failures In my own world: - my POD HD500 indeed has an F3 footswtich that acts dodgy as hell and won't do what I assigned it to do much of the time. - I can assign FS2 to a volume pedal function, but it won't "take" and refuses to use anything but FS1 until I save the new preset and come back to it to change it after I go to any other preset. Then, it seems to work most of the time, but nbot always. - Last night, my brand new (October 2012) JTV59 developed a problem where the magnetic pickup selector switch (no modelling invloved) in the up (Neck) poitision went wonky and screached with static. While fiddling about with it, i noticed that moving the guitar to a resting on my lap position (resulting in a slight bump) caused it to fix itself for s short time. More movement produced intermittent cut outs. Troubleshot it to a loose connection inside the guitar somewhere (most likely) and even with my strong electronics background, I would sooner traverse razor wire than to open this thing up and try to sort that sure to be rat's nest all out. I guess what I am getting at is this; Since Yamaha just acquired Line6, as a person who works in business I know this acquisition likely took months to work through, so I wonder did quality slip while everyone at Line6 dotted their i's and crossed their t's in prep for the big day of announcement? I have to say that overall I am not too thrilled with the quality of what I have anyway, from a hardware and firmware standpoint. It's all well and good to spend $1500 buying two pieceds of gear that are supposed to effectly replace dozens of guitars, amps and effects UNTIL it ceases to work properly. At that point things change for me. Thoughts from the community on this?

Hey guys, this is my first post in the forum. Right now I'm using a Gibson Les Paul with my HD500, using headphones. The sound is OK, but I'm looking to buy an amplifier. I'm considering buying a DT25 combo, but before I do, I have a couple questions. 1. Firstly, I have ran out of DSP a lot on my HD500, mainly because I use dual amp configurations. What I am wondering is if I can still use two amp paths with two different (pre) amps modelled on my HD500, and have the DT25 combo output both amps (both paths) in only one speaker (I will be using the combo amp). Another thing that I'd like to know in relation to this is whether or not using the HD500 in conjuncton with the DT25 will free up DSP. I heard that (since the 2.0 update), the DT25 models the pre amp instead of the HD500. Is this true? Will it model both of my pre amps, allowing DSP usage to drop on the HD500? 2. Secondly, I am wondering which cable to purhase to use with L6 link. I understand that Line 6 reccomend an AES/EBU type cable over everything else. However I also see that they recommend a Classic Series Microphone Cable by Planet Waves, which as far as I'm aware doesn't appear to be an AES/EBU type cable. I live in New Zealand, so I cannot purchase brands such as Mogami, in fact the only AES/EBU cable that is stocked in my local store is a HOSA AES/EBU cable. Would you reccoment this as a good cable? http://www.rockshop.co.nz/shop/recording/hosa-ebu003-aes-ebu-cable-3ft.html Also, I assume that 3ft is too short.... Thanks so much in advance, and any other tips in realtion to the DT25, such as upkeep and tone tricks will be greatly appreciated! I will be entirely new to valve amps. Nick.
