  1. OK MIDI Gurus- riddle me this: I have been using MIDI since the early 90's and consider myself somewhat knowledgable in this area... this means the answer is simple because I sure as heck have overlooked something easy. :) FACTS: My band plays to a sequence during its entire performance. The sequence comes from a Yamaha Motif ES6, onboard 16-track sequencer- and it acts as the MASTER controller. The sequencer has several tracks dedicated to various MIDI 'instruments' and devices. These devices are, in order of channel assignment and physical hook-up with MIDI cables: 1. HD500 (MIDI ch 1)... changes patches, turns FX modules on/off 2. American DJ lighting mixer (MIDI ch 2) for spotlight (yes, I'm programming my lights... worked fine for the last 8 years and highly recommended) 3. Another American DJ lighting mixer (MIDI ch 3) for the LED pars around the stage. The LED lights ARE terminated. 4. TC Helicon Voiceworks Plus rack vocal processor (MIDI ch 4)... changes patches and FX 5. Roland TD-10 drum brain (MIDI ch 10).... changes patches. This set-up was working perfectly with a Podxt Live until I got the Pod HD500 and put it into the dasiy chain (yes, I selected the correct MIDI channel). Once I replaced the old pod with the newer HD500 my lighting sequence became altogether sporadic, working only at only 40% accuracy. When I put the HD500 at the end of the chain everything works fine. Go figure. So the question is: why do I have to put the Pod HD500 at the end of the chain in order for everything to work normally? Thanks for your input in advance. Chad
  2. Right I have posted this before but to no avail so I'm going to try again. Basically the only way I can get my POD to send a signal to my ENGL power amp is to go via the fx loop and stick a loop block at the end of the signal chain which is rather annoying as I like the use of the looping function. I have sent it directly into a PA before via the 1/4" out without an issue but for some reason it is not working going into the ENGL so I have no clue what the problem is. The output signal is set to power amp, 1/4" line out switch set to amp, guitar in set to normal. My rough signal chain is (working) Guitar in>Vol pedal>Amp sim>Reverb etc>FX block>FX Send (out)>ENGL>Cab. The way I want it to work is; Guitar in>Vol pedal>Amp sim>Reverb etc>1/4" out>ENGL>Cab. Has anybody got any ideas? It's been months and I still can't find a solution.
  3. I have been racking my brain!!! I have a Crate Vintage Club 6210 and it has a parallel effects loop with a mix level on it. I have the HD500 and it sounds out of phase in the loop. I also have a B52 AT100 and a Marshall VS 8100 and the HD500 sounds great in those loops. I have tried tweaking the amp and HD500 and I either lose the effects level or get that "processed" out of phase sound. I have read that parallel loops and digital effects don't play well together. Are there any pedals to fix that? Anything I can do to the amp to fix it? The amp sounds great and am using the HD500 just for effects. Really frustrating. Any help would be great. Thanks
  4. Hi! Ive recently finished production for Moscow-based cover band. This is a cover version of The Killers Somebody Told Me. I used HD 500 a lot on this track. Hope you'll enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnFikMwnWV4 video http://soundcloud.com/vladimirkrylov/element-v-somebody-told-me-the audio
  5. Hello everyone! I am about to buy a DT25 combo to use with my POD HD500. I read somewhere, when you connect both devices through L6 Link, HD500 USB out goes quiet and only works as a MIDI interface (no sound signal). I used to make my recordings directly from HD500 USB out to a PC USB and directly to a DAW (Audacity, Reaper, etc...). Is there any way of continuing recording digitally, while playing HD500 connected to DT25 via L6 Link? If not, my enthusiasm on that Amp goes completely down the drain and I might call the deal off :( Anyone could give me a hint? Thank you all! Miguel
  6. The limited loop time 40 seconds on the HD400 has me wanting to use my Jamman but cannot think of a way to incorporated it using L6 link. Running out thhe 1/4 inch out through the jamman would lose the power amp switching on the DT25 via L6. Has anyone figured a good rig setup to incorporate an external looper? Thanks KC
  7. Over on the Ideas page I posted this; A possible solution to expand existing units and provide us with all the functionality we are requesting. Please contribute any ideas you have for such a device. Think as big as you like! http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/POD-HD-ULTIMATE-Module/502816-23508
  8. I've read that the pre-amps in HD500 are the best to use with DT50 and DT25, so I've put a setlist together with all of the pres as a baseline for my patch creation. The problem I encountered was that the volumes varied WILDLY and I kept blowing up my ears going from the quietest amp (Hiway-100 apparently) and a Treadplate for example. Of course one amp is louder than the other, but for home use, or testing, having these patches be leveled is a must So I've gone through and leveled out (with the MIXER setting) all 30 of the pre amps to be very roughly the same loudness. There is definitely some variance. If anyone cares to correct them more properly, please do so and post the update. In this setlist, Hiway-100 is the quietest amp- I have the db setting on the mixer maxed, so I used that setting as the baseline for loudness of all the other amps. Very unscientific, but now I don't get ringing ears if I'm switching between. Hope this helps. DT25 30 pre-Amps-leveled.zip
  9. i have hd500 + dt50 + epiphone custo, ( les paul ) What is most authentic plexi sound on hd500 + dt50? Brit j-45 Plexi Lead 100 Brit P-75 i like this sound ?
  10. Hi all, I recently purchased a Stagesource L2T powered monitor to connect to my HD500 (and I also have a JVT-59) to create a non DT50/25 guitar amp 'Dream Rig'. I've noticed (besides the L2T smelling like weed) that whenever I connect the hd500 to the L2T using the L6 Link, that it forces the HD500 into combo mode....at which point the combination sounds like crap. I then have to go into the hd500 system edit and change it back to direct and everything is ok again. Has anyone else experienced this? is there a way to force the HD500 to stay in direct mode when I connect the L6 link cable? I know I could use the XLR connection, but then I have to fart around with each patch mixer setting (I only have a single L2T at the momment and use it like a guitar amp). BTW: sorry in advance...I also posted this in the HD support section as well. Thanks
  11. When I download custom tones they always sound thin and lifeless. I play through a power amp and two speakers. Basically a PA. What could be the problem? Thanks
  12. Considering that many Line6 customers purchased their HD500 till the last month, will current HD500 users be able to upgrade to X version at least for what concern the processor and software? That would keep them safe for further updates from the house that will be all targeted to the new HD500X version from now on (IMHO)... ;)
  13. Hello guys! My brother's birthday is coming and I really want to surprise him, but I'm not sure whether to get him the M13 or the Pod HD500X, I need to confess that I never tried either of those two He has a really bad 80's amp and a mixing console where keyboards and vocals go to the PA Which one is better and why? He is an FX experimental guitaris t, knowing that which one is better for him? I'm a complete noob when it comes to digital proccesors and I just want him to have the best Thats why I need your help Thanks in advance. :)
  14. Hi guys, have you ever tried the Valvulator in the signal chain before the POD HD (directly into the PA)? Watching this video ( ) it seems like a great unit, BUT in that demo he runs the POD through a poweramp and a cabinet, not directly into a PA. My question is: does the Valvulator really worth it in that scenario? Does it take away some of the well-known "fizz" out and add some dynamics to the tone? Thanks! ;)
  15. Hi all. Looking for some advice. I have the dt 50 and am thinking of buying a matrix poweramp for my hd 500. Has anybody else ever used a matrix poweramp with the hd500?
  16. Hey peeps, I am new to the HD500 community (bought one last week off ebay), but not new to the Line6 cvommunity. I presently have a POD XT Live and have owned the Spider 1. Here is my question. I want to convert the the patches from the POD XT Live to the HD500. I know you can't do a direct transfer (that would be nice). What I have done is take screen shots of my patch settings from within Line6 EDIT and want to mimic them the best I can. Here is my question: I am using the METAL SHOP Pack amps (i.e. CRIMINAL..aka 5150), that I bought originally for my POD XT Live. What amp is closest to that in the HD500?. Thanks in advanced!
  17. I have an HD500 (output set to COMBO PWR AMP) connected to a DT25 with L6 link. I know that if I create a patch with a single amp model that by default it will get reproduced on the DT25 channel A, and if I choose NO AMP, then by default it will swap to DT25 channel B. If I create a patch with 2 amp models, one on path A and one on path B, then the amp on path A gets reproduced on DT25 channel A, and the amp on path B seems to get blended in to the overall sound, but even if I choose a full amp model with default cab sim on path B, it just does not sound like it should do - it seems to be a poor fizzy version rather than a full rich version that I would expect. Now I know that having only one DT25 amp that the path B amp cannot be realised within the DT25 because it is realising the path A amp, however, I did think that it would take the entire modelled sound of the path B amp plus cab sim and blend with the "real" amp on path A. Is path B creating a true modelled sound but sounding bad because output is set to COMBO PWR AMP instead of STUDIO DIRECT? Or is it bad because a single DT25 isn't designed to handle a patch with two amp models? Or something else? So what is actually happening in this scenario?
  18. Hi, I've had this problem since I upgraded to the latest firmware and drivers. When I try to record via USB to Garageband I get significant distorition. Below are the notes on the issue. Has Line6 done anything to fix this yet? I haven't seen any posts that truly have a solution to this issue besideds 'don't use USB' (which is not very helpful). It seems like a large enough issue. -The distortion does NOT occur on output to my amp or headphones. -The distortion is only on the guitar, the other mic input seems to work fine -The distorition occurs when Im running a patch (say dual tones - Acoustic / Vocal 5) or running through completely clean. -I've swapped in/out all the cables and they seem to work fine. -I've tried turning up the master and down the input on my mac and vice versa -There is no 18db checkbox on the mac, but my current input is set below that on the midi controller (it's set to 9.5 for the guitar input channel) and 18db on the vocal. -The distortion occurs with muliple types of guitars. -This occurs both in the recording and when I turn on the computer speakers as a monitor. I can't figure this out. Can someone please help me out? Thanks so much!
  19. Ok - just can't get this thing to work with the hd. I rarely get to use any volume so only get to try a couple things here and there. Trying to do the 'Dream rig' thing. Here is the status... No POD, guitar in. Low power mode. Chans A & B sound OK in various settings. No POD, guitar in. Normal power mode. Chans A & B sound OK in various settings. POD, variax in, Chan B (bypass ?) sounds fine. Chan A (POD pre amp) = OMFG WHY ARE YOU KILLING ME WITH THIS VOLUME THAT IS ABOUT A GAZILLION TIMES LOUDER, BRIGHTER, AND CLEANER THAN JUST USING THE DT AS IS????!!! I swear I think its going to shatter my ribcage. I've read people stating that the pod doesn't sound quite like the 50, but that is not my concern. I just want it to sound like a usable amp in some way and not a sonic death ray. All components have the latest update. Work fine on their own. POD is setting itself to combo out when connected. Connections are done via VDI & L6 Link. Any help as to what the heck I am doing wrong?
  20. Hello forum! I've had my POD HD500 for a few years now, and I'm really happy with it, amazing gear... But I've been having a problem recently when I connect it to my computer. I completely reinstalled my Windows 7 computer a few weeks back and installed all the newest software/drivers for the POD HD500. When I plug in my POD to my computer using the USB connection, every few minutes the sound just stops for a few beats and starts back where it stopped. Do any of you guys have any idea of what the problem might be and how to solve it? P.S. : I'm from France so please forgive my bad English

This reset resets the global settings back to factory defaults and also renames the Set Lists to factory as well. NOTE: This DOES NOT reset the presets. That requires re-installing the flash memory using Line 6 Monkey. (Same as Factory Reset above.) Q: How should I set the OUTPUT MODE on my POD HD Device? A: The OUTPUT MODE can be set in PAGE 4 of the global settings pages. NOTE: This setting affects ALL of the outputs of the POD HD500: 1/4" unbalanced L/R outputs, XLR outputs, the headphones output, and the USB record sends 1-2 into your computer. Output modes: Studio Direct: For connecting “Direct” to a mixing console (PA) or recording device. Also, this is the best setting for using headphones or monitor speakers. Combo and Stack Settings: These 4 options are all designed to optimize your tone for connecting to an external amplifier. The signal includes "Live' Cab Models, with no Mic Model or "AIR" convolution, with a special EQ curve added for each. Combo Front and Stack Front - For connecting the output of the POD HD500 into the front input of a typical combo amp or amp head + external cab, respectively. When choosing either of these Modes, you will see additional optional for further tone shaping. Combo Power Amp and Stack Power Amp - For connecting the output of the POD HD500 into the power amp or Effects Return of a combo or head amp. Set the AMP/LINE switch on the POD HD500 to LINE for this output mode. Use this setting to bypass the front preamp of your amplifier to use the POD as the digital preamp being fed directly into the power amp section of the amp. NOTE: If plugging into the effects return of an amp, set any loop level controls to 100% if available. May get lower output in amps with parallel effects loops by design. Sometimes, you may need to insert a dummy 1/4" into the amps input to make this connection work. The POD HD Pro DOES provide phantom power as well as a PAD and Low Pass Filter. Q: What Sample rates do POD HD Devices Support? A: The POD HD500 Supports 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96k at 16 or 24bit Q: What is the input impedance of the POD HD before the 1.40 flash memory update? A: The input impedance of the POD HD series before the 1.40 flash memory update was 1M Ohm. POD HD 500 Specific Functions: Q: How do I enable the Wah effect with the expression pedal of the POD HD500? A: When you assign a wah effect (or any other effect) to be toggled on/off by the Expression Pedal Toe Switch, in order to physically enable or disable the effect, you must press down hard on the front toe portion of the expression pedal. You must use a good amount of pressure pressing down on the toe of the expression pedal which makes it difficult to do with your hand. Placing the pedal on the floor and press down hard on the toe of the expression pedal with your foot. You should see the red EXP 1 light change to green EXP 2 (or vice versa). Q: Which external expression pedals can I use with the POD HD500? A: We recommend using the Line 6 EX-1 or the Mission Engineering EP1-L6 expression pedals. You can also use any other expression pedal containing a 10k Ohm Potentiometer. Expression pedals allow you to change stompbox controls using your feet so you can adjust the sound while you play. On the fly, you can modify the length of your delay time, dial up the reverb mix, or change the depth of your tremolo, or anything you program the expression pedal to control on the POD HD500. Q: How do I assign the foot switches of the POD HD500 to use it as a MIDI Controller? A: Press and hold the MOVE button to access the MIDI ASSIGN screen. This is where you configure custom MIDI commands to the Expression Pedal 1 and 2, Expression Pedal Toe switch, FS1-FS8, Looper, and TAP switches. All settings on this screen are saved per Preset. Please go over the Advanced User Guide for further info. NOTE: When the bottom row footswitches are set to ABCD Mode, FS5-FS8 will ONLY send Program Change messages that are sent as a result of switching presets, even if assigned to send a different MIDI parameter in the MIDI ASSIGN screen. Q: How do I assign an effect or amp block to be toggled with a foot switch? A: In the Signal Flow screen, select the FX or Amp Block which you want assigned to one of your footswitches. Then Press and hold the ENTER button to display the Footswitch Assign screen. The Footswitch Assign page is display is similar to your Signal Flow view. Use Multi-function Knob 1 to select the footswitch to which you want this FX Block assigned. You can also just press the FS switch you would like to assign it to that amp or effect. NOTE: you can assign multiple FX Blocks to a single footswitch or Exp Pedal's "toe switch". You can reference the current Preset’s FX footswitch assignments by pressing the VIEW button to display the Performance View screen. Q: How do I calibrate the Expression Pedal of the POD HD500? A: Please go over the following POD HD500X/HD500 Pedal Calibration document for instructions on how to calibrate the expression pedal of the POD HD500. POD HD Bean Specific Functions: Q: What is the new TWEAK knob for on the POD HD? A: Controls amp or effect parameters that are assigned to TWEAK in the CONTROLLER ASSIGN screen as you would with expression pedal of an FBV controller. Select the desired amp or FX block, then doouble-press the MOVE button to enter the CONTROLLER ASSIGN screen. Q: Which foot controllers are compatible with the POD HD desktop device? A: The FBV Shortboard Mk II will give you access to the most features of the POD HD by providing you the ability to access all of the presets within the Set Lists' of the POD along with giving the ability to toggle all effects on/off, control over the built-in looper, tuner enable/disable, and the ability to program the Expression Pedal(s) to control parameters of the amps and effects on the POD HD. You can also use the FBV Express Mk II pedal for changing between presets, tuner, and expression pedal control. POD HD Pro Specific Functions: Q: What kinds of connections does the POD HD Pro have? You can also use the FBV Express Mk II pedal for changing between presets, tuner, and expression pedal control. Q: Why does the Asterisk appear in the POD HD500 Edit software when no changes are made? In the POD HD500 Edit software, the asterisk will show up in the POD HD500 LCD screen every time a preset is selected in the editor window, let alone when a preset is modified.? This is expected behavior and does not indicate a problem with the POD.? When the POD HD500 is NOT CONNECTED to the POD HD500 Edit software, the asterisk only shows up in the screen when the current preset is modified. Q: Will the POD HD500 accept MIDI CC's allowing it to be controlled by a 3rd party MIDI controller such as a GCX Ground Control? The POD HD500 will accept Program Changes and Bank Changes at this time via a 3rd party MIDI controller however, the POD will NOT react to MIDI CC's sent from a MIDI controller. Achtung, dies SETZT IHRE PRESETS NICHT ZURÜCK.
  22. Lately I've been using my main patch (attached) for my HD500 using the L6 link to a DT-25 head and then to a Blackheart 1x12 cabinet with an Eminance speaker mic'd with an SM-57 off-axis. Our sound man wants to make more of a spatial "Wall of Guitar" sound and wants me to try the XLR outs to create a more stereo effect with the guitar sound. So I know I know I'm lucky to have a sound guy that wants "more guitar", now I just want to make sure I'm happy with the overall sound. Please take a look at the patch and offer suggestions on what I can do. The first thing I see is going from a digital delay to a stereo delay but I'm concerned that as the patch sits now I won't be able to use one delay for both signal paths. I want to preserve that Bonamassa/EJ clean/wet amp sound I have now. I know also for me to use my FX loop for a clean boost I'm going to have to use a TRS to mono L/R split cable which I have. As I'm using it now, when I use my L6 link going to the cabinet is it only using signal path A with the P-75 and nothing from the Blackface DBL? I was never sure about this. Finally if I get my patch tweaked for stereo with your suggestions and go XLR L and R direct out should I pan the mixer hard L and R? I know the FOH guy is going to blend them some in his mix. Also, can I still use the L6 link to the DT-25/1x12 for a 3rd guitar signal? Will it sound good? Just be Path A? Will it conflict with the Direct Out output setting of the HD unit? Sorry for the barrage of questions in a somewhat disorganized fashion. I swear I haven't been drinking, just tired and trying to remember all the points I was needing to know to prepare for the gig Thursday. Thanks, Dave
  23. Hi All , I have a HD500 and i want to know if anyone had built a MIDI controller template for switching Banks, programs and more control of all patches ? There are many MIDI designers and controller apps for iPhone and iPad and i think it would be convenient to have MIDI controlling the presets on the HD and M fx. There are apps like TouchOSC , Lemur , Control , Midi Designer etc that can be used to build custom MIDI interfaces. I did a quick test with Midi Designer Pro and was able to send a Bank Change and Program Change and have the HD500 swtich to the right preset. Designing a flexible MIDI controlling template would be a big effort and is there a ready template for some app already built ? Also , does the HD500 let one vary the values with MIDI also ? Can the 4 knobs be mapped to sliders in the MIDI controller interface so that it would be very easy to change presets but even parameters on the fly right from the guitar ! Any ideas / inputs welcome ! thanks pat
  24. Greetings. Basically I need some help with connecting my HD500 into my ENGL power amp without using the fx send. At the moment I have it working in this chain order; Guitar>HD500(FX Send)>ENGL E840/50>Marshall 1936 Lead. But I want to be able to go directly out of the pod instead of using the fx send, wasting an fx block and been able to use the looper. So the chain would be instead; Guitar>HD500(1/4"out)>ENGL>Marshall. Any ideas? Iv'e included some images, one of which is the back of the ENGL, the right input is from an XT PRO which is turned off.
  25. Hello all! I have a JTV69 and an HD500 I'm looking to trade for a JTV59 Tobacco Burst. Both the JTV69 and HD500 are in great condition, I've only had both under 6 months. Anyone interested in a trade? Thanks for looking.
