  1. Hi Guys and gals! I have a question about the placement of the Vintage preamp. Im running a split path Top for acoustic and bottom for mic. Originally I had the vintage pre at the start of each path but it sounded negligible and average at best. Then I shifted the vintage pre to first spot then split the paths. Wowzer it sounded amazing!! Buuuuttt I then effectively have 1 path I think as all effects (eq and boost) afterwards effect both guitar and mic even tho it's split. Why does the preamp sound so much better like this? Do I need to start with the mixer and pan guitar left, mic right (i run mono out anyway) then split paths, then have the preamps? Maybe pramp, then panned mixer, then split? Help haha! Thanks.

    HD500 tones

So I picked up a HD500 which seems amazing except for the fact that I only have an iPad and it isn't compatible with any software to download patches. Only a few of the factory ones really sound decent to me and I've played with building a few. So not sure if I should have gotten a firehawk instead so I could control it with my iPad? Let's face it once I get my main 8-12 tones I likely won't use a whole lot more. 1- is there a place I can get tones listed vs a patch? So I can just type them in. I'm not a country guy but I wouldn't mind building a paisley like tone. 2- did I mess up and should have gotten the firehawk since I don't own a computer...
  3. Hi, I'm trying to sync the tempo in the POD by sending the clock from my DAW (Reaper) via midi. I have two problems. 1.The POD only syncs the tempo when I go to the midi page in the system settings or when I press a footswitch. 2.The synchronized tempo always drifts by -/+0.2bpm and takes a bit of time to sync. I tried with both global and preset options for the tempo. Is there some workaround for these problems? What I'm trying to do is to play backing tracks with tempo changes during the playback and I would like the tempo in the POD to sync with the DAW without me having to press footswitches and without any drifting. Any advice or setting i'm missing in the DAW or in the POD? Thank you
  4. Hi all! Im new to the POD HD500 (yea i bought an old one cheap)so this might be an easy fix. Or not haha... I play acoustic and sing so have setup a dual path, input #1 as guitar, input #2 as mic (XLR input). Both paths start with a 'disabled' amp then split into the required EQ settings, comp boost, then rejoin to the reverb unit, volume pedal etc. Looks like this: So my question is how can i use the physical EQ knobs for tweaking overall tone (of the above patch) at various gigs/rooms? Is this ^ whats called "Global EQ" or GEQ"? Hoping its just a setting somewhere or it can be assigned to the mixer. Thanks in advance! Clint
  5. I have posted on this subject before, but now it's to the point where it's intolerable. I normally use the L6 link to my HD500. I used to fire up the pod first, then the amp. After a while it started to hang up during it's startup routine, and when it did that I'd get no sound. I'd look at the lights, and sometimes they were all lit, sometimes none were lit, or sometimes I'd see the wrong combination of lights. And it does this to this day, only more often. After some experimentation and reading something Line 6 wrote, I changed my routine to starting both devices separately, then connecting the L6 link. If I got sound, I could then plug in the L6 link too and everything was rosy. For a while this worked. When the problem resurfaced, I resolved to employ a shut down routine where I'd go to standby, then unplug the L6 link, then wait, then power off, then unplug from the wall. (powering up still required keeping the L6 link unconnected at first) This worked flawlessly for a while, but now it too fails quite often, and any time I don't get the sequence EXACTLY right it seems to always fail. Once the thing fails to initialize correctly, I have no choice but to restart it, and it usually fails 5-15 times after that before eventually starting. I've done a factory reset so many times I could puke. I've flipped the power and standby switches with it unplugged ad nauseum. I have exceptionally clean and uniform power PLUS a power conditioner, so it's not that. When working correctly, I believe the lights and relays go like this when the power switch is thrown: 1) all on; 2) all off; 3) coinciding with the last amp setting (prior to connecting the L6 link). when having the issue, it usually makes it to step 1 or step 2 and hangs there--and I get no sound. A couple times it's even gone to step 3 and looked right but still no sound--but I think in those instances I was doing the multiple restarts in fairly rapid succession. I'm at wits' end, but I figure that were I to ship it to Line 6 they probably wouldn't witness the problem (remember, it's intermittent). Below is a similar thread I did earlier in the problem's evolution. Anybody out there encounter anything like this? Thanks for reading!!!
  6. Hi, I just got a used HD500 which seems in a good condition. The only flaw i noticed right away is, that the right controls beneath the screen are a little wobbely. It then turned out that the "left arrow" from the dpad is not working, so it is not possible to go left in the signal chain to edit anything. That is actually quite a big thing.. Is there a way to fix this? I am quite good with electronics and stuff, so I might be able to fix it myself. Thank you. Chris
  7. Just got my second DT25 and trying a stereo setup with my HD500 via line6 link. Sounding great but no matter what i try, amp A always sound much louder than amp B. Using dual preamp setup in HD500 with exact same values, and mixer set identical on both paths. Still amp A is louder. Is this normal behaviur? Suggestions other than panning mixer hard L/R and volume on path B to full?
  8. Hey everyone. I currently use my HD500X in my studio for home use. I am going to jam with some friends and they have an extra Marshall Head and Cab there I can plug in so I was hoping I could use my HD500X so I can get the tones I want. I am not a Marshall fan and I don't feel like dragging my EVH, and Cabs over so I was wondering if I can use his Marshall head as a preamp and just run my settings which is amp and cab simulation to get the tone I like ? Is this possible ? What do I need to do in order to get this to work ?
  9. My 10 year old POD XT LIVE died ... I played a gig with it one day and it was dead the next. Here is a video I made when I discovered what was wrong with it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SN1Kr1XS6k
  10. I'm using a JTV59 guitar, POD HD500 and have all the latest patches / firmware etc. I use the POD HD500 Edit software and the Workbench HD software to setup my patches and models. I think I've just been looking at this too long and can't see the forest for the trees and it probably has an easy solution, so here it is. I move a preset patch to a user location using the POD HD500 edit software. Then I tweek the patch to my liking and set the volume to match the other patches in that bank. I save that patch by sending the selected patch to the HD500 in the location that I created and tweeked it. The volume level is correct after my save until I recall it from the HD500. When I double click it in the HD500 Edit software it gets louder which is my prefered volume level, but when I choose the patch from the HD500 pedal it is not as loud. Any ideas on this?
  11. Having not used my HD500 for a few months, when I went to use it this week, my PC didnt recognize the device through the USB port. The drivers won't load and install correctly, now Monkey wont run (and I have tried Monkey on 2 different PCs) - my wife spent 30 mins on the phone with tech support to no avail. I am ended up resetting (re-installing) windows on my main pc. Then re-installed Monkey. Same crap. I am hoping someone here can advise having had similar issues?? Otherwise I am done with Line6, this being my 2nd board and 3rd product overall. Terrible experience.
  12. Just wondering if anyone knows how to use the 2 together. I plug the Shuriken in to the Variax port on the HD500 (not the +, this is the first version) and I get the guitar to power on the Variax mode but I can't figure out how to bypass the settings on the HD500 to hear just the sounds being produced by the Shuriken. Does anyone know what I need to do? Any help is much appreciated ESPECIALLY since the battery on my Shuriken isn't powering the guitar so I have no choice but to use the HD500 to power the guitar right now.
  13. Ok, I've decided to dust off my HD500 and use this as my pedal and effects board thru the effects loop of my amp using the 4CM. I haven't gotten that far yet, I just got the HD5 out again, literally dusted off the cobwebs and updated all the drivers, patches, etc. I then created a few new programs after the "firewall" thingie (effects section of the amp), selected FX Loop, then say Reverb, Chorus, whatever. I added a Wah in this area, and the pedal functions fine, I can sweep up and down and see it move in the programming. However I try this as a Volume pedal and I get no movement, no sweep. I did the Vol Pedal re-calibration following I think it was Dave (or Steve's?) video instructions on YouTube, got that straight, tried again, still no Volume pedal. When I try a pre-built model from say the Best of HD500 the Vol Pedal works fine, and I move them into the effects loop section and it works fine. But when I try to insert into a program I get nothing... So, sorry for what maybe a very basic question but I thought I'd ask and perhaps save myself a lot of troubleshooting grief...
  14. I noticed that when I get new patches from CustomTone, some are significantly more loud than others and it's not for lead and such. I would like the option to use these clean tones alongside each other with the same volume level (not including the lead tones which should be louder). Is there a way I can have this hooked up and check the volume level on the patches and adjust them accordingly with a visual tool? I was thinking of using Reaper to test this out, but I wasn't sure if there was a better option.
  15. Hey guys, I bought the HD500X a couple of weeks ago and I was wondering how you use it to record your stuff? When recording, do you just run the HD500 directly to your PC/Mac using the USB connection or do you connect it to an audio interface first and then take it to your PC? In other words, do you use the HD500X as the audio interface or do you use whatever other audio interface you have as the interface in your DAW?
  16. Hi guys, Am unable to install driver to connect HD500 via USB to MacBook Pro 10.10 (Yosemite). Monkey states that the 7.3.7 driver is not installed, even after I have installed it using Monkey (using "Update Selection"), and separately using dmg, but to not avail. Any ideas?
  17. Hi Everyone, Creating this topic to check if someone has tried the SD's powerstage (power amp > cab) on a live situation. The reason why I ask is for me to decide whether to go for an axe fx or keep using the pod. I mainly use the pod for live use and I guess, won't be using it for any recording stuff. Most forum suggests the axe-fx but I'm having second thoughts as I may just be wasting money as most of the people in the forum are using it for recording. I'm doing live shows and I mostly use Mesa or Fender as my amps for dirt and cleans (sometimes tweed or ac30). Hope someone can chime in their experiences. I'm not here to bash anything, just wanted to get an honest opinion on the pro's and con's as far as my usage is concerned. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hi ..Just thought i would share... This is a recording of a live Jam session over the internet from Canada, No California and Denver. Completely live using Jamkazam.com software. (in realtime) Delay was about 28 ms from each location. 512 kbps constant bit rate, stereo. The additional pads are coming from my HD500 connected with the 1/4 cable from the Variax. Its pretty awesome what we can do now and not even be in the same location https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/supermassivemomentum-live-8-5-2017/ Helix using firmware 2.21, HD500 and Variax
  19. Hi all, I am considering buying a POD HD500X for live situations and there is a question for which I have not found an answer in my internet search. Does POD HD500/HD500X have any kind of snapshot mode like the Helix? I would like to change between 2 very different sounds without changing the preset to avoid the typical gap in the sound. If it does not have this mode, how many CC's (e.g. turn ON/OFF individual effects, change from A/B chain, etc) it can send at once (with just one button)? Thank you very much in advance! :)
  20. I am trying to control the amp channel via MIDI (in addition to the '4 cable method'): eg. Clean patches should use the clean amp channel. When you use any patch or foot switch on the HD500, a MIDI signal is sent that you cannot edit of disable (I think). I believe this is so that any other connected Line 6 gear knows what the HD500 is doing. Unfortunately some of these signals (eg from the Loop footswitch) change settings on my amp (a Blug amp1). Does the Helix and/or LT send these sorts of MIDI signals for other Line 6 gear? Can they be controlled?
  21. Hello everyone, I have 2 x POD HD500s, my original road-worn thing with broken pots and jacks etc and a near-new one I have just bought. I would like to somehow link them together so that the new one will control both PODs with the output of both being available at the 1/4" outs of one only. Any tips from anyone...? Many Thanks, Anthony (Australia)
  22. Hi. I've been searching for a while, but can't find an answer, so I'll throw this out there. I've been using my HD500 with DT50 and L2T through L6 link for a couple of years. No problems at all... until recently. No longer any sound through amp or speaker. If I run the HD500 to the DT50 through the standard line out, it works, but there's a pulse every 5 seconds or so and the sound cuts out for a 1/10th of a second. Firmware/flash up to date. Any ideas or suggestions?
  23. Hey guys, I thought I'd make this a separate post so that it's easier to find for anyone who might be having some issues. The patches for the HD500 do not import directly into the HD500X Edit software at this time. They use different file formats. There is a work-around that I posted earlier, and is being passed around now. All you have to do is change the extension on the patch files: For individual patches, change the extension from .h5e to .5xe For bundles, change the file extension from .h5b to .5xb For setlists, change the file extension from .h5s to .5xs I have found no inconsistencies among the patches from the HD500 Edit to the HD500X Edit using this method. I don't know if/when Line 6 will update the software to allow backwards compatibility, but in the mean time, you can use this method to get your 500 patches to your 500X. UPDATE: Someone else mentioned that you can drag-and-drop individual HD500 files into the tone slots in the 500X Edit software. I can confirm that this works. You will still need to change the file names for set-lists and bundles, though.
  24. Greetings, I'm wondering if anyone has used the Variax/HD500 (and maybe DT) to simulate an On-Board Effects Loop. The purpose of an OBEL is to bring the post-effects sound back into the guitar in order to keep the effects sound consistent and not subject to the output volume of the guitar. Put another way, when you typically turn the volume on your axe down, the lower output cleans up the signal from the effects. Using an OBEL means this won't happen, and the volume now controls the output, post effects. An OBEL was famously used by Jerry Garcia. Here's a good explanation of OBEL: http://shop.phredinstruments.com/ProductTab/ProductCustomTab/3 On the Variax, you can use the HD 500 to assign the guitar volume control to operate the amp volume rather than the guitar pickup output (when using modeled pickups). I think this would achieve the same effect: the output of the Variax to the effects remains constant, but the post-effect output volume varies. Has anyone here used this method to achieve a similar result?
  25. Hi, I am unable to authorize my HD500 in my account. I already opened a ticket (267844) and so far I did not get an answer at all. I bought the HD Fully Loaded Bundle and I can't install it because of this problem . I need help to delete 9 deauthorized devices I have on my list.
