  1. There are not a lot of tones for HD500X. More FLOYD,SABBATH,KENNY WAYNE SHEPHER!
  2. As a long time user of a HD500 and HD500X, I have noticed one defiency that has been noted on the HD500 forums - that the HD500/500X sounds beautiful through PA speakers with clean sounds but as soon as you add any overdrive or distortion - the sounds turns fizzy. I am using pretty decent powered PA speakers (EV ZLX-12P) and love the clean but find most distortion not very pleasant. I have heard many explanations and also solutions with EQ. Ironically, the best sound I have gotten so far is running the HD500/500X through a set of Peavey Bandits in the Post Gain Input outfitted with PA speakers. It gives me a nice balanced sound and sound close to the digital signal that I can pump to my computer. My question is does the Helix sound better through PA speakers for the wide range of clean/distortion sounds than a HD500/500X? I wouldn't mind using an IR to adjust the sound but I don't want to spend hours adusting each patch to sound good through a PA and then back it out if I want to use my standard rig. Any insight would be helpful - I am thinking of purchasing a Helix but am thinking this could be a sticking point if it doesn't sound much better than my HD500/500X through a PA speaker...
  3. Hello everyone. Hoping to get some advice. I got an HD500X about a month ago and it is a big disappointment. I'm sure that it is not the product but my not knowing how to use it properly yet. Here are my main issues. Plug the HD500 into the guitar input on the front of my Fender 65 twin reverb amp Loud hum drones on Strat played thru the 500 into the Fender = tone suck. It sound bigger and better without the 500. Has anyone encountered this problem and found a solution? Thanks
  4. Okay Guys, I need some advice. Although I consider myself somewhat knowledgable on some subjects, when it comes to sound, amps, pedals, and plethora of options, I'm a total boot. Which is a reason I own a HD500X...everything is there for me and I don't have to worry about it. That being said though, the HD500x is huge and I travel a lot for work so I'm not always able to bring it along with me and I'm relegated to subpar travel amp options. Question: - Is there an interface that will allow me to use the programs that are related to my HD500X ("HD500x Edit, Workbench HD, and/or POD Farm 2")? For instance, instead of bringing my pedal along with me, can I just use an interface to plug directly into my computer where I could use those programs as my pedal?...so I could use the output towards a set of speakers/headphones? - Sonic port...is this my best option (I do own a Mac)? Or is there another option that I'm unaware of? - Will the Sonic port allow me to use the setting I have on those aforementioned programs or will I have to use whatever is on their Mobile App? Anyways, just looking for some guidance. I'm just trying to get the sound I've grown accustomed to without lugging the actual pedal with me. Thanks Guys!

  6. Curious. Is there a way to set one footswitch to toggle between to effects or amps? Essentially an Amp Switcher. I typically use 2 amps on a patch and right now I have to use two footswitches to toggle between the two (one is set clean, the other is driven) Is there a way to consildate it to one footswitch? So when the light is on, the clean amp is active and when the light is off it turns the driven amp on? Seems like this would be a simple enough task, I may just be missing it. If not, Line 6 People, please consider this feature in an update. It'd be super cool...
  7. I apologize if this was asked previously elsewhere. I tried perusing the manuals and searching the forums... For the last 4 years, I have been using Guitar Rig with Rig Kontrol live. Honestly, I might still be a happy user if NI would keep their products up-to-date and not discontinue their hardware. I can't do a live show anymore without experiencing bad audio drop-outs and worse. Time to ditch and look elsewhere... One of the cool things I was able to do with GR, however, was route speaker simulation (cab sim, etc.) to ONLY one side of the outputs. My common setup was to run the output with NO cab sim to my on-stage amp, and the output with the cab sim ON to the DI/PA system. The tones were just a little off from each other, but my stage amp has V30's, and so I'd run the V30 cab sim for the house line, and with a little EQ, I was a pretty happy camper. This became the better option, rather than A) Mic'ing the stage cab for the house feed (not a fan), and B] Running the cab sim ON to my amp signal (Redundant yuck.), or C) Using NO cab sim (horrible shrill line out). So obviously, that's my question. Can you, somehow, route the outputs on the HD500X in such a way where the speaker simulation is running to, say, the Balanced XLR output(s) - meanwhile the 1/4" amp outputs disengage any cab sim? Or...is there another option/configuration I'm not aware of that addresses this issue? Thanks for the help!
  8. First let me tell you my setup. I have a hd500x, dt25 combo, focusrite 18i8, behringer ultragain digital ADA8200 mic pre and Reaper. What is the best way to get great tones into Reaper from the hd500x. I tried using the balanced left and right out of the HD but the signal was wayyyyyyy low. The best i have come up with is run a USB and mono unbalanced out into the focusrite. Is there a better way ? Should i be running left and right to the focusrite? Suggestions?
  9. Hi all! I've recently been experimenting with different options for an external exp pedal for my hd500x. I've tried both the EX1 line 6 pedal, and the mission engineering pedal. The ex1 lasted for only about a dozen gigs and rehearsals, then failed and was unfixable. I'm heavy footed and gig alot (80-100 gigs and rehearsals a year average) so the ex1 is not an option. The mission pedal is a much better pedal overall, but I don't like the travel of the pedal to use as a volume. Basically, neither of these work for me, and I'm not interested in an external wah. The on board exp pedal is currently doing triple duty as my volume, wah and whammy controller. I would like to free it up for mostly just wah and whammy; the external pedal will take over volume control duties. The primary function of the external exp pedal will be for min/max volume control in a live setting; mostly for rhythm to lead volume, and occasionally for fx control. I've been checking the forum archives and have seen that some folks have used other brands of expression pedals with varying degrees of success, such as the Boss fv500 series, etc. Anyone here have any experience using other expression pedals besides the ex1 or the mission? Any info will be much appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Here is my board I made for the hd500x. I've replaced the ditto with a 720 but nothing else has changed. I built the board out of pine that I had sawed and kilned for shop lumber. I didn't use any joinery and it was very simple to make. Although I did get to this point from a log, a nice woodshop will have better options. I made this before I seen the ikea hack but it is very much the same. As for routing, there are many options and I'd like to know how you guys are incorporating your stereo rigs with fx loops and this pedal. I'm currently running the pedal itself in mono because the octave and modulation are really nice on the front end, then both amps have a different od from the aby, a single eq, stereo reverb, and stereo/pan volume. In the effects loop is a timefactor, trinity reverb, and looper (currently). I find myself moving these around a lot. Anyone have any better routing options or suggestions?
  11. Hello guys. I might need your help here. I own the POD HD500x. I love some things, some others don't. I've always been wondering what's better, if the HD500X or the BOSS GT-100. Maybe if you don't want to answer based on term "better" you might tell me what you think about their differences / resemblances. For example, I could say I have found less than 5 decent and comfortable distorted tones for solos in L6 Custom Tone, and I have practically downloaded all of them to see. I can say there are nice clean tones. That's me refering to "distorted tones for solos", for example. There's a lot of other aspects to look too. Thanks
  12. I've recently got problems with a clicking noise when I use my POD HD500X. At first I suspected my guitar, so I made sure everything was tightened properly. It didn't help, and I also noticed that I get this noise from all of my other instruments. It doesn't matter if I use the mono outputs, headphones or use the POD as audio interface. I've tried to reinstall all software with Line6 Monkey, and the problems remain. Here's a video describing my problems: I'd appreciate all kinds of suggestions for solving this :)
  13. Hello, Please excuse my ignorance, but I typically use amps and more conventional hardware. I'll get to the point and later explain further details below in case they're require to examine my problem. I'm trying to run my HD500X to my KB37, which self monitors after relaying to my PC based Ableton Live 8. I achieve good visual decibel levels, and its is loud through the headphone jack when using over ear phones, but I can't seem to effectively feed my PA monitor (Yorkville NX55P) for any offensive volume levels, I've tried using a 1/4TRS that Y's to two mono 1/4 from the headphone jack to the Line/CD jacks on the PA, and am only able to achieve fairly quiet performance, nothing that would hurt your ears. This is with the onboard mixer engaged on the PA speaker, and about 3/4 output level and phones level. I could manage no sound with two mono cables from the analog outs (KB37) to the Line/CD jacks on the PA speaker. I'm trying to use the PA speaker as an FRFR instead of my modeling spider iv 150HD, which has no stereo input or uncoloured channel. I primarily use stereo effects on my HD500X. My existing setup is as follows: Guitar>Line 6 G90 wireless>HD500X>Boss RC-300 Looper>L/R Inputs KB37>PC/Ableton Live8>KB37>Headphone amp (via analog outs on KB37) I've been using this setup for silent moonlight jams, where everyone is on headphones. For this experiment however, (understand I'm not achieving stereo yet, just trying the PA out in mono) I've disconnected the analog outs and eliminated the headphone amp. I'm wondering what I'm missing, if I need a mixer in addition to the KB37, or if I'm not sending the proper line level? signal to the PA. I figured a 550W active PA would blow me away, so far I'm missing something... Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks for reading,
  14. I've had a HD500x for a few months and really like it. My main issue is with loading custom tones. I've watched several YouTube videos of user's who have created some really nice sounding tones, but as soon as I download them and try them out, they sound nothing like they do on the video. I am running the HD500x directly to a powered PA speaker via XLR cable.
  15. I was wondering if anyone knew of a convenient way of converting/setting up patches that use emulated amps/cabs to use my DT50 instead? Do I just delete the amp/cab block? Ideally, I'd like to have one bank of tones for DI recording and have that same bank of patches set up to use the amp (getting the tones as close as possible...of course they won't be exactly the same but that's ok) and going in and just manually doing it like I have been trying to do it so far has resulted in me BLASTING myself with ludicrous volume more than once (DAMN the DT50 2x12 is loud!!!) while changing between patches.
  16. how are you there guys :D ,i am from China, need some hleps ! i get this unit mainly for gigs without real guitar amps,in China,we have the PA system(usually instruments-->di-->mixer--speakers) for most of the living band stuff, and i think hd500x suits me better than GT100. my gears here:2i2 sound card,a laptop, and monitor,so can i get the sound exactly like playing live in the situation i mentioned above by inputting 1/4 out to the "line in" jack of my 2i2? i think there must be some a/d d/a theories, since i don't have a mixer,so i can't do any kind of tests,so what's your sugestion?my english is not good, hope you understand what i'm talking about :) thanks!!!!!
  17. Just picked up a helix this weekend and so far I'm loving it! First order of business was to recreate my main patch that I've been using for years on my HD500X. It's based on a Dr. Z model and I've been really happy tone wise. Quite honestly it was the additional features, routing, options, etc that drew me to Helix. I wasn't unhappy with my tone at all. So anyway I built the patch in Helix and thought it would be fun to A/B them. Here's a link to it on Soundcloud. Dr.Z amp and cab, some reverb, delay, and a couple of tube screamers. I'll take a few guesses on which is which before I say what's what, just for fun :) https://soundcloud.com/chuskey/helix-vs-hd500 Technical bits: Used a Variax via the VDI. Captured the dry signal via USB and reamped, so it's the same performance for both tracks.
  18. I've noticed that the HD500x LOVES to bluescreen my computer. It's happened probably half a dozen times now. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any known solution to this? I can post error logs and stuff when I get home if anyone would like to see them. I got the thing to record with...if it keeps this up, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. It sounds great and being able to set it all up with a program on the computer is SO much better than sitting there twirling knobs for hours on end...as fun as that is sometimes.
  19. Could anyone give me an idea about how to build a patch that includes an autowah? In other words, is there the possibility of an autowah in the HD500X? If it is, how can I configure it? Thanks
  20. Got my HD500x a week-ish ago and picked up a DT50 2x12 last night. Now I'm trying to get everything setup. I've been going through the manuals but MAN are they lengthy and layed out a bit strangely. I'm currently doing the "4 cable method" but it doesn't seem to be using the amp at all. I can turn all the knobs on the amp, nothing changes. I also get no sound unless I load an amp sim in the HD500x. I'd really like to use the amp's (surprisingly good) tones and the pedal more for just the effects until I get the superspecialwhizbang cable to properly connect the pedal to the amp. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? Is there a tutorial video or two for all this? This is actually quite a bit more complicated than I expected. lol Super happy with the setup now, though. Sounds great. Just gotta get it all dialed in. Thanks for any help!

  22. Good evening! Getting my HD500x tomorrow and I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm wrestling with the best way to hook it up, though. I'm wanting to get stereo guitar AND a dry signal for reamping in all in one fell swoop. I'm currently using a Scarlett Solo and it only has 1 XLR in and one 1/4" in so I'm pretty sure that's going to have to get upgraded. Other than that, what is the best way to achieve this? I know it's going to be cables all over the friggin place, but I'm only going to be using it in a studio environment (at first, at least) so it isn't an issue...I'll get it all hooked up and cable managed and be done with it. Any input is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you!
  23. Hopefully I can explain this with some level of clarity ... or not but here goes, I have been reading the manuals, watching & following youtube videos, reading KBs & forums, searching via google, etc. I have invested about 35 to 45 hours over the past seven days (yep, some will say "is that all" and some will say "about normal") and finally used it today. I have learned my tones are slightly treble weighted which I can fix. But after trying many things I had a strange sound come out of the darn thing in my headphones this afternoon. The Treadplate, The Angle F-Ball 100, & Bomber Uber emit a weird sound, almost like a cross between a Jacob's Ladder & a spring only it is heard for about just a few milliseconds when I hit a power chord. So, I decided to reload the 2.62.00 firmware, which I had done last Sunday when I first bought the unit. To my chagrin I discovered that there was an odd occurrence with this reload. Now I had read that there were only 2 user set-list available upon the update when I first upgraded it from v1.00.00 last Sunday and had asked some general questions about why v1.00.00 would be on a new unit. Well, last Sunday after the upgrade, and I did not tell it to save my patches since I didn't have any, I had three user "blank" set-lists, not two. But this afternoon I had a new set-list I had never seen and only two user "blank" set-lists. Now this is a good thing, so no big deal. I did calibrate the expression pedal and found it would not calibrate quite right. I should 45 Duty Cycle instead of 0 at first then ranged between 100 and 65 during the "press A then B then C as I had it at full down, play with it, full up, wait for it, and so on. It took three power cycles to finally work. Then I created a Treadplate only patch and found the sound was the actual hum and hiss of the amp itself out of the box. I even added a noise gate and viola I had recreated the problem, if that what it truly was. So being the geek I can be at times I used Line 6 Monkey to downgrade the Firmware to 1.30 and started over. Same issue with the Pedal as far as calibration and my found set-list was now no where to be found. Well, I'll test the Treadplate. Yep, no change. So back to v2.62.00. Only tie time the Pedal calibrated perfectly. The missing set-list was now found. But Treadplate still had the off-spring of Jacob's Ladder and a '63 spring reverb sound. Hmm ... So I played with all of the following; amp parameters, master sag hum bias bias excursion drive channel vol cab parameters, early reflections resonance level thump decay Used all the microphones available as well Turns out I can reduce the noise to just about a whisper without sacrificing too much tone, and for my ears it actually sounds more factual. But I must admit I have a problem ... my ears are such that if any instrument is out of tune it physically hurts my ears ... really. Or if a group plays outside the normal laws of dissonance ... well I have never said I wasn't odd. So now the questions; 1) Are the High-Gain amps actually modeled with the hum, hiss, and spit of the amp circuits at those levels as you'd find in real world, 2) Has anyone else noticed this 3) Is it that problematic to calibrate the exp pedal 4) Should I have my POD HD500X sent in for Line 6 to look at 5) Have I been assimilated 'nough out of me Thanks for any feedback on this Dennis
  24. Crazy question. I purchased a new POD HD500X from GC Sunday as in 5 days ago Feb 2016. When I first installed the necessary software from Line 6 (Monkey, Edit, drivers, etc.) and successfully connected my unit the screen in Line 6 Monkey said the firmware was version 1.00 - not 0.00 as if it didn't see it. So question, when did firmware 1.00 get released and did I really purchase a new unit or was it some old stock, in the back under the stairwell, waiting to see the light of day release? It did update to version 2.62.00. I had the same thing happen in Jan. 2010 when I purchased my first M13 and, due to many issues I discovered in the first 10 days) it had to be sent to Line 6 three weeks later at which time Line 6 (thank you Tony) sent me a brand new doubly inspected unit just out of production. So, back to firmware version. Anyone have an answer as to what firmware you had if and when you purchased a new HD500X in the past three months (Dec 2015 to Feb 2016)? Thanks, Dennis
  25. Hello, i've bought a pod HD500X myself this week. Now i have found some interesting sound presets for the HD500. Can i copy them to my HD500X (via the line 6 edit software) without causing errors or even damaging my HD500X? Thanks for your help!
