  1. So I've had my HD500X for a little over a month now and I spent quite a bit of time, of course, creating usable tones that I like. I've used the POD with headphones, computer speakers, my Vypyr VIP 2 amp, and more recently, and old Crate PA/Mixer system that my parents used to use years ago and have now given to me. The Crate PA system really brought the tone to life and allowed me to get the tones dialed in the way I like them before using the POD live (although my wife wasn't happy about how much space it takes up :D ). I have to say that with the HD500X, my tone was the best it's been since I was much younger and used to use a Crate G120C amp when playing live. I play lead guitar at church, and I've been using my Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 amp with a Sure SM57. I love the Vypyr amp, and with the SM57 off-axis, I was able to get some decent tones live, but the problem is that the stage volume became an issue. The Vypyr doesn't have a line out, so I had to mic it, which would normally be fine, but In the church setting, if I turned the amp up loud enough to get a good fat mic'd tone, it would overpower the bass and keyboard players because of speaker beaming, and be overpowering in general for a church service. If I turned it down to keep that from happening, I'd end up with a good, albeit quieter, tone on stage, but the mic'd sound coming out of the PA was thin and weak because of not having enough volume for the mic to pick up a good source sound. So after tweaking and learning the POD for a month, I used it at practice and during the performances this past weekend. It made a huge difference in my sound. No longer having to worry about being too loud or too soft was great, and the tone I got through the PA system was the best I've had playing here. I used my Crate PA system and one of it's 2x8 speakers as a monitor, and placed it in front of me pointing away from the audience but toward my ears so that I could hear it pretty well without it being too loud. All in all, it's been a great experience and I'm pretty excited about using it from here on out.
  2. Hello POD HD experts . I have a question that I hope can be answered by your infinite wisdom! A friend of mine is selling a valve amp head and cabinet that goes with it. For the purpose of his discussion the amp is the Fame T64 Rs which is valve powered . I was thinking of getting it since he's selling it for very cheap and the and the amp itself is in mint condition. This amp has an fx loop so I was thinking of using this amp for the power and "essence" of the tubes and using the awesome amps of the pod HD. I have seen some videos of the 4 cable method but my question is as follows: can I get the warmth and the power of the tubes and use the amps of the pod hd? And if so , how do I accomplish it? Thanks in advance for all your replies
  3. Hi there, I used to connect the unbalanced 1/4" OUT of my HD500X into the line input of my M-Audio M-Track. With this configuration I was able to adjust the gain one the soundcard linearly, using the whole stroke of the knob. Now I'm using the HD500X connected with the M-Track with the XLR balanced outputs and with this configuration the first 3/4 of the gain knob have no influence on the signal, only the last 1/4 daoes, and it's obviously very sensitive. I don't know if it's a soundcard issue or if there are differences in POD signal using balanced vs unbalanced outputs. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance
  4. Hey, I really REALLY like the Line 6 POD Pro X, because it's unbelievably affordable and sounds great. But, I don't like the Line 6 controllers very much. Can I hook up a normal midi controller to it? Also, how many other midi devices can I control at the same time? On an unrelated note, I play 8 and 10 stringed guitars, and will this be able to handle that kind of low end? Does the chromatic tuner work that well? Thanks!
  5. I've had my Spider 75 for nearly 4 years. I decided to add a POD HD300 a couple years ago due to needing a gear set up to play in a situation that does not allow guitar or bass amps/cabinets on stage. I've now upgraded to an HD500x, but I still have my Spider 75 and use it for various performance or recording situations. My question is, does anyone have any advice or tips on how to re-create the Spider 75's incredible "Demented Mind" preset in the HD500x or at least come as close as possible? I don't have the FBV pedal so I can't connect the Spider 75 to my computer to use the edit software. Thanks

  8. My first problem with POD HD500X is that, it switches itself to preset A (FS5) and sometimes I can not go to other presets or open the tuner. This problem is temporary, sometimes it works fine. This happens especially when I press FS1 to activate an effect. I tried to install the latest firmware, and did the global reset on the unit by holding the LEFT ARROW (<) button as I plug-in the Power adapter. But the problem was not solved. I suspect of a switch error. Another problem I face is when pitch shifting, the sound is not sustained, but delayed. As if there is an echo on. I do not have any other effect on. Just amp/cab simulation is on with pitch shifter. Is there any solution to above problems? Thanks in advance
  9. Hi, I've recently bought an HD500X. I played a gig the other night on a stage with a fair bit of vibration and the HD500x kept on switching from whatever channel I was on, back to channel A without any input from me. It's the first time there's been an issue with this at all. As I always set channel A as my clean rhythm sound, this was problematic, especially during solos! I've flashed the memory but I'm thinking it may be something to do with the sensitivity of the actual buttons themselves. To recreate the problem, all I need to do is tap the metal casing of the unit and it will flick over to Channel A. Anyone else had a similar problem? Cheers, Mark.
  10. Hi All, I have just bought a Pod HD500X after owning a UX2 for a couple of Months. I am putting the HD500X through my Fender Hot Rod Deville Pre Amp in socket. Firstly I'm getting an awful Hum as soon as the Pedal is plugged in. Secondly all effects sound muddy and to be honest pretty crappy, at least compared to the UX2 with my PC Speakers, the Amp with just a Guitar and the Amp with my Boss GT6. Has anyone had a similar issue? I have seen some people talking about disconnecting the Earth cable to the power, but I'm not going to start screwing around with my power wiring. Anyway any help will be gratefully accepted, otherwise this Pedal is going back to the shop. Cheers Lee
  11. I’m using a HD500x with a JTV-59. Both inputs are set to Variax. I’m planning on plugging the SP/DIF output into my PC (Windows 7) and monitor the output from the HD500x going into to two KRK RP5 studio monitors. Alternatively I might go from the POD via XLR to my Focusrite 2i2 audio interface and then out to the KRK monitors. Does anyone know of a simple piece of software that might run standalone (i.e. not a VST plugin so I have to open Cubase or some such thing) that will monitor the input and I can have almost like a widget on my Windows desktop? I’d like something that would visually show clipping i.e. a red light or whatever. Sometimes its hard to hear when a distorted sound starts to clip, so I find a visualisation useful. I had borrowed a Fishman SA220 PA from a friend and whilst very sensitive it has little red lights that flash when the input is clipping, I have been plugging directly via XLR into that, but I need to give the Fishman back so a software based solution that does the same thing would be good. Any ideas?
  12. I finally got my HD500X and it is amazing. This may not be the problem but when i turn on the POD i see total 16 factory presets. But after 16D it again goes back to 1A. I don't want to change the factory presets but need to make something new in user presets. How can I go to user presets?
  13. Was trying to set up an fx block for octaves...mainly just an octave above the note I play and nothing more. Is this possible and which effect will do this? Maybe I missed it but this should be a simple thing to do....
  14. Hi Eveyone. i am sorry I am a beginner here and I had a couple of questions I was hoping some more experienced players would be willing to help me with. I just bought a POD HD500x and I bought 2 Stomp Pedals - a T.C. Electronic "The Dreamscape" Pedal (which is a chorus/flanger pedal) and a Wampler TrippleWreck Distortion Pedal. I have never worked with stompboxes with a POd before so my question is, should I use the effects loop or as far as the distortion goes, should I plug my guitar straight into the TrippleWreck then into the input of the POD HD500x and perhaps put "THe Dreamscape pedal in the effects loop. Or should I set it up with the guitar straight into the TripleWreck Distortion Pedal, then to The Dreamscape Pedal, then to the input of the HD500x. Or should I use the Effects Loop? And if I use the Effects loop, hopw should I set that up? (Again I am sorry I am a beginner). So I am looking for more experienced guitar/effects people who can tell me the proper way I should set this up. So basically, here are the signal chains that I am not sure to use: Should I use: A) Guitar ->TripleWreck Distortion Pedal -> HD500x input - > The Dreamscape in the effects loop B) Guitar -> Triplewreck Distortion Pedal -> The Dreamscape Pedal -> HD500x input C) Guitar -> HD500x -> Tripplewreck DIstortion Pedal -> The Dreamscape Pedal -> Effects loop Agaijn I sincerly apologize that this is such a beginner question, but I am new at this and was hoping some more experienced experts could help me out and tell me what setup is the proper way to set this up. Thank you very much for any and all help that anyone can provide, I sincerly appreciate it!
  15. Hello, I've had the Pod HD500X for a few months now and I'm still not sure whether I'm using it properly. I'm finding that I'm getting quite a bit of feedback out of my amp at a high volume in band rehearsal and live settings. I should say that I'm a very plug-and-play kind of guy. The Pod HD500X is the most complicated piece of equipment that I've ever had to work with and I'm fairly undemanding, so I'm probably making some very elementary mistakes in terms of getting the right balance. A bit more about my set up: Guitar (LTD MH417, EMG 81-7 in the bridge) -> POD HD500X -> Carvin TS100 (tube power amp) -> Line6 4x12 (not sure of the model, I bought it with a Flextone head about 10 years ago, has a tweed front). I've attached my main setting here (we play thrash/death metal), but I have some questions about the switches and outputs. Currently, I have my output set to "Studio/Direct" and my quarter out to "Line". This seems to fly in the face of everything I'm reading, but it seems to be the setting that puts out the most volume and the heaviest sound. Could this be causing a feedback problem? Is it simply too much for the amp to handle? If I should move my output to "Stack Pwr Amp" and my quarter out to "Amp", how difficult would it be to achieve the same sound and volume? If you open the file, you'll notice I have two preamps running with an overdrive. The gain/drive on all three doesn't exceed 40% and I try to keep my treble settings reasonably low enough. There are some extra effects at the end of the chain that I almost always never use except for the reverb. While I'm pretty happy with the sound I'm getting at bedroom volume, if I crank the Carvin to about 1:00 with the band, I start to get feedback. So what exactly is the best balance of settings, gain and volume to avoid feedback at high volumes when playing this kind of metal with the Pod HD500x? Please let me know if the file doesn't work or if I've attached it incorrectly. Many thanks in advance!

    HD500 Input Z

I took my HD500 into the lab to measure it's input impedance to see if it was "real" or just an simulated/emulated effect. Summary: it is a real resistor. Details: I used an Audio Precision APx525 to generate a 100mV RMS signal at 100 Hz (because 1kHz caused too much cross-coupling at the higher impedance settings of 1M and 3.5M) with a 20 ohm output impedance (which is negligible). I switch in various series resistors until the signal out of the HD500 into the APx525 (either XLR out, 1/4" out, or SPDIF, it made no difference) dropped 6dB. Only the first FX block was installed in the HD500- the Studio EQ set to its default settings. The results are below: HD500 Input Z selected / Input Z measured 22k / 22.21k 32k / 32.03k 70k / 69.8k 90k / 90.1k 136k / 136.5k 230k / 232k 1M / 999k 3.5M / 4.57M (noisier measurement than the others) So what? Well, the HD500 input Z interacts with humbucker and single-coil pickups in an identical way that amps and FX boxes do. Humbuckers generally like (or require, depending on your point of view) higher impedances than single-coil pickups. Also, if you're driving the HD500 from a source w/o pickups, such as another FX box or a wireless receiver, then input Z selection should have no impact on your tone (as long as the box can drive the selected input Z). Generally, lower input Z offers lower noise but is harder to drive (prone to amplitude loss or more distortion).
  17. Hello everyone I think I finally found a rig that can do pretty much anything I need for my one man show. I'm very excited because it's so friggin convenient and it does sounds good. I still have a few quirks to iron out so hope that with this thread you can help me and a few others have a 100% Dream Rig system. 1. I'm going out of my HD500x via L6 to the L2T XLR out of the L2T to my Bose L1M2B2 Tonematch small console. Doing in it this way I'm getting the exact same sound of the L2T is getting and switching from acoustic to electric presets. I'm getting a Hum on the Bose from the L2T XLR that I need to get rid of ASAP Any ideas how to do this correctly? 2. I can also go XLR out of the HD500x to the Bose Tonematch console but the signal level drops BIG time and the hum goes down too. Still getting the L2T sounding great via the L6 cable and all the switching from acoustic to electric just fine. 3. Is there a better way in doing this and to control the volume on the L2T? 4. I'm getting great tone even direct from the HD500x to the Bose T1 console and I'm all about convenience and be as lightweight as possible Are any of you with me on this?… plus I can save myself some $$$ returning the L2T and have one less box to carry. The convenience of having a dedicated GTR monitor is great too I'm just asking because from another point of view I think is good to have all the sounds coming out of one source in this case the Bose L1M2B2 system. 5. Is there a way I can control the volume of the L2T other than the Master knob on the HD500x? Just want to know all the options available to have full control of the system and don't be slaved to knobs all over. 6. It would be great if you can explain your signal flow, system setup [ipads…etc…] Pictures or videos can make a big difference explaining things so I would appreciate if you guys can do that. thanks a lot for your help regards, Charles
  18. I just got the HD500x recently and the other guitarist in my band has Ableton live running every show. My question is: How can we program Ableton to send patch/effects changes to my POD? Thanks!
  19. Hi, If I use the l6 link with the POD HD500X and DT50 head how would I add a couple of stomp boxes to the mix? thanks for any help
  20. Does the HD500x support an external expression pedal with a toe switch to change effects? When combining the internal expression pedal would this allow you to switch between 4 different pedal effects on 1 patch?
  21. Can a patch be setup in the HD POD500X to connect both a vocal mic and a guitar simulteaneously? I know I can do this on the POD X3, I If so, how do I configure it? Best Regards Jerry
  22. Hi! I've had my dt50 for a couple of months and so far I love all of its sounds and the "trueness" of each voicing. I bought this amp along with the HD500x in order to replace my whole live rig but up to now It seems I just threw my money to the wind. There is absolutely no amp sound when connected via the l6 link that is remotely usable or even acceptable. As of now I've tried using the "PRE" models, messing around with the setup in general and compared it to the dt50 by itself and the hd500x by itself. I have to add that both standalone products are working fine. I've done everything the L6 link guide recommends to no avail. Reading through the forums I've read that supposedly you can get similar tones with the treadplate amp model as the 4th voicing in the dt50 but thats is absolutely laughable, at least in my case. My cables are a high end planet waves guitar cable and a pretty expensive xlr cable for the l6 link. My pod hd500x has the latest firmware but I have not been able to update the amp's firmware. The hd500x Displays the connection properly and changing apps does affect the controls of the dt50 but in no case is the sound produced acceptable. Am I missing something? I will update the amp as soon as I can (though I find it hard to believe it would change anything) but I would like to know if there is something fundamental that I am missing. thanks in advance!

    XLRs with HD500x

Hi guys. I'll be gigging with HD500x on an XLR setup to be connected via the PA/Mixing Console. Sadly, I only have a single XLR cable that I connect as Left XLR Output. Will this suffice or will there be setbacks? Do you recommend that I use 2 XLRs instead just to maximize the HD500x? What other recommendations or tips can you suggest in using XLRs-to-PA setup with HD500x? Thanks.
  24. I Just recently Purchased the HD500X (3-5-2014) and i know their is an update from 1.00 to 1.20 has any whose jump from that experience anything negative from it? i know i'm pretty content with a patch i edited but i'm also one who desires things up to date. my main request is primarily the Angel F-ball Pre. has that been enhanced? thanks guys i appreciate it
  25. So I just bought this thing and I'm trying to create my own presets in the in the Edit application running in Windows 7. It works great, but for only a minute or two, and then the unit stops syncing and is locked on whatever sound I was currently at. After that nothing responds. If I turn pedals on or off, change pedals, change amps, the sound stays the same and I no longer see "syncing" on the device screen. If I try to Receive anything I get an error message: Operation timed out, Code 8000000000a When I unplug and plug the device back in it works again for only a minute then the same thing. This is unacceptable. Any ideas? Did I just waste a lot of money? Device is updated.
