  1. I have searched high and low and have not found a straightforward answer. I have an HD500x on the way and a pair of Rokit 6 G3 to pair with it. The Rokit 6's have the following inputs: Balanced XLR Balanced TRS(1/4" jack) Unbalanced RCA I believe I have read that it is preferred to use the unbalanced 1/4" output on the HD500X as the XLR output signal is low. Can I connect the 1/4" unbalanced out to the 1/4" balanced TRS on the Rokits? What cable should I be using? Or should I use a 1/4" unbalanced to RCA cable? I am so confused! Thanks for the help.
  2. This does not seem to be the reboot loop problem that I heave read so much about. Everything works fine for a while, but then the patch buttons won't respond and it will "screen reboot" a couple of seconds later - the screen turns black and then shows the Line6 logo then it all comes back a few seconds later. Audio is lost while this is happening. One thing to note: the FS lights stay on! So I'm guessing that it's not a total power cycle. I can't find a pattern or a systematic way to replicate the problem. It doesn't matter if I'm hitting FS5, FS6, FS7 or FS8. The patches that are loaded at the time don't seem to matter, either. Sometimes it's fine for a while. Sometimes, it's just a matter of a couple minutes. I'll try to switch to another patch, then it freezes and does its little reboot. I have reinstalled, reflashed, and rewound everything I could think of and the problem still exists. I even purchased a new power supply. This is quite problematic during live shows. I would really like to find a fix short of ditching the board. Any ideas? Thank you! Mike
  3. Hey, I want to run my processor like AXE FX where you can put that into a studio session and program effect presets change at any downbeat you want during the song. Right now I have my HD 500x processor plugged in to my computer by USB, and Studio One has it programed as an external device. Now I need to figure out how to bring it into the session so I can place effect presets.
  4. Hi everyone, can't manage to get guitar sound with my hd500x connected via usb. I have all new drivers, pod hd500x edit and monkey. System Preferences -> Sound -> Input (selected pod hd500x) shows input sound fro guitar, when i play, but no guitar sound output (any selected device) I can get guitar sound and music or guitar pro at same time if i connect my speakers to Phones output at pod, but that's not convenient. Thank in advance if someone can help me!
  5. HELP!!! I have a Variax 700 bass with VDI cable, it does not work with HD500x pod or pod XT live bass. Connecting to the XT Live pod freezes the screen. Until the cable is unplugged, it will restart. With the HD500x pod, I connect a regular RJ45 cable and work for a while but then the HD500X pod restarts. The VDI cable works well with JTV59 variax Can anybody help me?
  6. Hi everyone, Two years ago I purchased the Metal Pack for my HD500X, and haven't used it ever since. Today I turned on my HD500X and realised that all the content of the aforementioned bundle have disappeared. I checked out thoroughly even via the HD500X Edit programme, but no way - none of the following amp models was there: Peavey® 5150® (Block logo) Bogner® Shiva Remastered Marshall® JCM800 (Model 2204) Line 6 Insane Line 6 Big Bottom Line 6 Variac'ed Plexi Line 6 Purge Line 6 Aggro Line 6 Smash Line 6 Octone I also checked the purchase log on my Line6 account, and noticed that the invoice and activation key for the Metal Pack are still there. Is there a way to activate the Metal Pack again with the old activation key or am I supposed to spend another 50$ again for the same bundle? How can I bring back the amp models that I paid for? Please help and sorry in advance if a similar topic has already been opened in this forum.
  7. My goal is to have the HD500X send midi to turn on/off channel A on the Lehle 1@3. Practical application is to turn off the virtual HD amp in an HD500X patch. This will mute the DT25 and allow the signal to pass with effects to the Lehle switch connected to an Avatar 45 Watt. Turning on the virtual HD amp will switch off Lehel channel A, muting the Avatar and allowing signal to pass to the DT25. The Lehle can receive (and send) midi on any channel and can be programmed to respond (channel on/off) to incoming midi. http://lehle.com/EN/Lehle-1at3-SGoS Need some help with the HD500X midi side...
  8. I hope someone can give me a valid fix for my dilemma. I am trying to get distortion tones such as BLS, Journey, Queen, etc without getting the horrible feedback that is occurring. I have tried reduction in treble, Mid, etc. When you strike the stings and stop suddenly you get a very annoying feedback chip. I have noise gates on settings also. Any help is appreciated.
  9. Hi all, I am considering buying a POD HD500X for live situations and there is a question for which I have not found an answer in my internet search. Does POD HD500/HD500X have any kind of snapshot mode like the Helix? I would like to change between 2 very different sounds without changing the preset to avoid the typical gap in the sound. If it does not have this mode, how many CC's (e.g. turn ON/OFF individual effects, change from A/B chain, etc) it can send at once (with just one button)? Thank you very much in advance! :)
  10. Hi! I'm from the Philippines and the gigging scenario is usually like this. Most of the time clubs here would have a decently powered guitar amp (50-100w) but not all clubs mike the amps so it can sit well in the mix with the vocals, drums, and bass. I use an HD500x. To get more consistent sound both on stage and at the audience I was thinking of sending the PL outs to the onstage guitar amp's FX return, and the XLR outs to the PA. The problem I have though is that if I set up my patches with any of the cab sims on, the FOH sound may be good, but the stage sound from the amp would be usually muddy. If I set the output mode to Combo Power amp, I know I would get a good sound on stage but I fear that I would have that harsh DI no cab sim sound coming out of the PA. So I guess my questions boil down to the following: 1. Do the XLR outs have some sort of "always on" compensation / speaker sim even if the active patch has the cab sim turned off? 2. If not, then I would have to turn on cab sim so that the HD500x's XLR PA feed would sound right, correct? How do I now make the stage amp sound good in this set up since the cab sim already colors the sound? Thank you MH
  11. Good day. I recently picked up a used hd500x. When I load hd500x edit, it loads the old users setlist named Gary. I refreshed the memory and that has erased all of his tones out of the setlist, but the setlist names "Gary" still remains. I even deleted the file for it and renamed it something else and it still comes up as Gary. How in the world do i make this go away ? Thanks in advance
  12. Hi All I currently play a JTV59 amongst other guitars through a Zoom G5 into a Mesa Nomad 45 with a programmable EQ in the FX loop. I'm looking at getting rid of the EQ and the Zoom in favour of running a HD500X using the four cable method so I get the EQ after the pre-amp when I need it. I'm in a covers band and also sing BV and some lead. What I am wondering is if the below is possible. It's not a big deal if not, just curious. With the JTV can I set up some patches that will go from guitar to POD, then to the Mesa pre-amp, back to the POD and then out through the power amp (4 cables) whilst also having some Variax acoustic patches that go from guitar to POD then out to a PA mixer? I don't think I want acoustic patches to go to the Mesa power amp and then out through the Mesa speaker as it would sound odd. If the above is possible, can I add one more level of complexity? Can I pug my mic into the POD and have that running through the POD basically unaffected to the mixer for most songs but be able to put delays and harmonies etc on the vocal signal for some songs? Essentially can I split the Variax signal so that sometimes it goes to amp and sometimes to PA? Whilst also having a mic plugged in that also goes to PA? In case you are wondering why I'd want to do this, we regularly gig pinball wizard which needs the acoustic and electric sounds. It would be great to have the switching running from just a foot tap on one unit instead of hitting an A/B box and the Variax button on the guitar simultaneously like I do at present. We are also putting Queen's 'Don't stop me now' in the set with it's 5 part harmonies. I know there are plenty of vocal processors out there - just wondering if this is all do-able from one box rather than having two? Thanks
  13. Hey guys, I thought I'd make this a separate post so that it's easier to find for anyone who might be having some issues. The patches for the HD500 do not import directly into the HD500X Edit software at this time. They use different file formats. There is a work-around that I posted earlier, and is being passed around now. All you have to do is change the extension on the patch files: For individual patches, change the extension from .h5e to .5xe For bundles, change the file extension from .h5b to .5xb For setlists, change the file extension from .h5s to .5xs I have found no inconsistencies among the patches from the HD500 Edit to the HD500X Edit using this method. I don't know if/when Line 6 will update the software to allow backwards compatibility, but in the mean time, you can use this method to get your 500 patches to your 500X. UPDATE: Someone else mentioned that you can drag-and-drop individual HD500 files into the tone slots in the 500X Edit software. I can confirm that this works. You will still need to change the file names for set-lists and bundles, though.
  14. I know this topic has been posted ad infinitum for years though I've never really seen it answered in a way that was laid out like a flowchart. I have read tons of forum posts for years from both camps. "The HD500X will sound exactly the amp once you get the settings correct" or "there is no correct use yours ears as a guide" and then "the DT sounds much better and no matter what I do the HD500X does not sound like the amp." I've tried so many variations of things to try and get the sounds identical, but it's a no go. I'm wondering if there is a way I can ab the DT50 alone with the HD500X line 6 link connected. Channel A set to line HD500x and channel B amp alone. This way I can ab them in a split second through the same setup with out having to have 2 DT heads and cabinets. When I use the line 6 link now and set a no amp patch to channel B it does not sound like the amp, but more like the HD500x. I did the mute channel B in the mixer thing and played around with infinite variations. I know that it has been mentioned before that if you want to use channel B "you're just not getting the DT-POD interaction". I just want to AB them in a split second so I can tweak them to sound the same. If too much time elapses between using the line 6 link and direct the moment is gone. Can someone provide exact settings as far as what the actual amp topologies from the DT correspond with the HD500x. I don't just mean IV is a Treadplate or Rectifier. I mean specifics like to get the identical sound from the HD500x line 6 link to the DT you need to do this choose this model with this cabinet emulation and this mic setting, change these 3 things in the global settings, change this in the mixer section etc and so on and so on. What I've seen so far is people mentioning pre amp models vs full models etc regular mode vs lvm etc, but nothing is clear cut. Answers are all over the place. Videos are few and far between . I understand the difference in an amp when pushing the power section vs pushing the pre amp, but the there is something severely missing in the equation.I saw a video awhile back where the poster writes it's identical, but I could easily hear the compression difference even through youtube on a laptop. I can't understand why after all these years there has not been a single concise clear do this do that thing. I build tube amps and I can tell you that if I change a resistor or capacitor value it will sound exactly like this or that every single time. It might be a lot to ask, but I'm sure it would be appreciated by many including myself.
  15. So i am use to podfarm 2.5 but its totally different. What i would like to know is how to use the hd500x the best way when using headphones. I dont own any halfstscks or 2x12's, only a 75w spider 4, so i cant use L/R stereo out. I keep hearing all these amazing tones (unmixed) but cant seem to reproduce them. And most patches are for big amps and dont sound the same. If any one can guide me in how to create great tones using headphones i would greatly appreciate it. For guitars i use a epiphone SG custom prophecy and a ibanez JEM77P-BFP. I also have a 10 band eq i could use as a chain with the pod.
  16. I posted this in the old forum months ago, since many peole found it useful I thought I could re-post it here: ___ I really think these are important things not stated (or in some cases not clearly stated) in the manual, that you need to know to start seriously programming your POD HD I ran some serious tests on my Pod HD 500 and here is what I found out (I made my tests on a POD HD500 but this is valid for HD500X and HD Pro and is very similar for the "bean" version too), I'll try to be as synthetic (but complete and clear) as possible, but this is going to be a long reading so sit down and take your time or just go surfing somewhere else §§§ In short: the "famous" [input-1: guitar / input-2: variax] setting gives you different levels of signal depending on the position of the first *mono* effect block you use (amplifiers included), in particular you LOSE 6dB in the "pre" path in comparison to the path A/B or post path (note that this is not the same as saying that you gain 6dB with input-2 to "same", read on). [ if you don't know what I'm talking about just go and read this thread: http://line6.com/support/thread/74045?start=0&tstart=0 then come back here to hear a different opinion on the matter] first of all, try it out: - connect a guitar to the guitar input and the Left output to a full-range linear amp (or use your headphones) - recall a "new tone" default blank patch - set input-1 to Guitar and input-2 to Variax - set mixer channel A fader to unity (0.0dB) and pan to center - set mixer channel B fader to mute - setup a noise gate* with the threshold set to 0% in "pre" position (with this setting this IS a unity gain mono fx block) - play thru it - now if you bypass it, you'll hear that it looses 6dB of level when it's active (I initially thought this was noise gate's fault, but it's NOT) - now re-activate the noise gate and move it in A or "post" path - now if you try to bypass it you'll hear that it does NOT loose any dB - try moving the block back and forth between pre and A or post paths and you'll hear more level in path A or post than in pre this was already found out at least by hurghanico here: http://line6.com/support/message/403287#403287 but it's so important that needs a dedicated and more detailed thread. [* you can repeat the experiment with other mono effects instead of a noise gate but keep in mind that, if you want to clearly hear a level difference, you need a mono unity gain (www.music-dictionary.org/unity_gain) effect, for example: - a tube comp with thresh 100% & level 2% settings will work just as the noise gate above - an fx loop block with a mono cable connected between send and return will work just the same (but also read point 2 below) - do it with an amp with medium-low gain and, moving it between pre and A or post paths, you'll hear a significant difference in gain/ovedrive/distortion, not only level difference] §§§ OK now that you heard it, let's see it in detail; these are the REAL schemes of the pod and fx blocks routing, yes it's done by hand and I love it ;-) As you can see the pre path is a "dual-path" while A, B and post are all stereo paths; at the splitting point, where the path A and B are born, the signal coming from input-1 is splittted to the Left and Right channels of the path A and the signal coming from input-2 is splittted to the Left and Right channels of the path B; furthermore all fx blocks have TWO inputs and two outputs and the mono blocks do attenuate by 6dB and sum their inputs, then process the result and then split their mono output to both outputs of the block; for those who don't know, notice that: - "splitting" means duplicating one mono signal to two "routes" - and summing those two identical signals means doubling the level of the original signal (which equals to 6dB more) [and some side-notes: - the "stereo dry & mono wet" effects are for example the pitch effects and the "dry" type delays, I'm not considering this type of effects in this post, but they work as expected from the scheme you see above; - you can find a list of all the fx blocks divided by type here: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd/stereomono-fx-list-for-pod-hd-r567 where "stereo dry & mono wet" blocks are called "Stereo Thru/Mono Effect" which I personally find less clear - the mixer control named as "pan" is actually a "balance" control because if you move it to one side (e.g.: left) it acts on the stereo or dual mono signal by doing NOTHING on that side (left) and ATTENUATING the opposite side (right)] §§§ So, summarizing, if you only activate input-1, in the pre path, the first mono effect is attenuating the input 1 and 2 and summing them, but, since input-2 is actually silence, you loose 6dB; in A, B and post paths the effects are receiving a doubled signal on L/R, so the mono blocks, attenuating and summing the two signals, receive the right signal level to process so using "same" or "guitar" for input-2 does not mean to gain anything, but having a constant doubled signal wich is compensated by a 6dB attenuation in each mono summing it encounters in his flow please note that I am NOT saying that using only input-1 is wrong, you just need to know that this can give you different gain results depending on the position of the first mono effect with only input-1 active (Guitar/Variax) and the same parameter values, this: is giving you more distortion than that: now, if you use those two setups with "Input-1: Guitar / Input-2: Same", you get EXACTLY the same sound with both and this is something that can not be ignored ...don't know how to be more clear than that
  17. Hello to everyone. I connect the guitar to the Guitar In and doesn´t work. Apparently HD500X is OK but does not get the sound from the guitar. Volume and Master up and nothing. I actívate the tuner and the screen is clean, play a string and doesn´t no appear on the screen. OK: guitar, amp and cables but Guitar Input and Aux In don´t work. I have reset the unit and the problema persists. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
  18. Hello, I have a somewhat special question. I use the POD HD500X with a 4 cable method over a tube amp (ie no modeling) and a Strat. For some songs, I use the Variax with sitar and acoustic guitar sounds. These sounds should of course not go through the amp, but with some effects directly into the mixer. Question: How do I have to configure the POD so that the Strat signal will only go through the Amp (not the Mixer) and the Acoustic Sounds into the mixer (not the amp)? Somewhere I've read something, with a configuration of the two channels left and right, but does not know how that goes ... I would be very glad if someone could help me here. Thanks and Regards Martin
  19. Suddenly one day, my Delays and Reverbs and any effect I place post FX Loop no longer work. The buttons respond, but the audio is not changed. If I move the effect block before the FX Loop, it makes some audible change but is quite lollipop. I am using the 4CM and it was working, and now isn't. Is there a setting I may have accidentally changed or has anyone else has this problem? Thanks, Greg.
  20. Hi everyone, I bought my pod hd500x last and I've been loving. Truly an amazing tool. I have been using my guitar plugged in guitar input, and run backtracks trough the aux input. But today, from nowhere, the pod started to apply the preset in usage to the aux input audio, although when using other presets the aux input audio is now being cut out. I tried changing the input settings, but that isn't solving my problem. Could someone provide some help solving this issue? Thanks in advance.
  21. New to HD500x :) I assume a 'preset' is a collection of effects/amps you set up yourself - like a 'patch' in similar products Can you assign separate presets to each of the footswitches on the HD500x? eg. Say I have 2 presets: 1) 'HeavyMetalManiac' (dist, delay, wah) for solos 2) 'FunkyGibbon' (comp, phaser, reverb) for rhythm Is there a way to assign HeavyMetalManiac to fs1 and FunkyGibbon to fs2 or any other fs? So I can toggle between the 2 easily without having to scroll though all my presets OR Do the switches essentially only allow for turning off specific effects within the current preset? Does ABCD mode allow this? Thanks
  22. Problem: looper isn't working and mp3 doesn't pass through I have my iPad pushing a song out the headphone jack into the cd/mp3 1/8" input on the back of the POD XD500x. With the POD HD500x going to the L2t through the link6 cable I can't hear any evidence of the song. My guitar sounds fine. The L2t plays great. I'm connected analog from the JTV-89F to the POD XD500x (1/4" mono instrument cable). Same config, if I activate the looper on the POD XD500x, regardless of what loop I record I cannot get it to play back over the L2t. Suggestions?
  23. I literally cannot get a single good clean tone. Even the ones of customtone sound like absolute lollipop. And when its slightly average its still insanely quiet so i have to do something to make it louder but then it becomes distorted. Any help? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz-grkFv8Ac. This tone at 0:30 is what im looking for.
  24. Hi, I'm new to this Pod game but I'm still having problems with USB timeouts when HD500x Edit is synchronising patches. It can fail at any % along the way. I've tried it on two PCs and with a cable in or out of the jacks in case it's an earthing issue. Am I missing something? Thanks Craig
  25. So i bought the hd500x recently and am loving it but when i try to practice a whole song with multiple presets being used it shows syncing on the screen as i swap even when i havent changed any presets! im afraid that when i play live it will do this and will make preset changing impossible. My pod is plugged into hd500x edit is that the problem?? please help thanks
