  1. I have a DT-50 212 and POD HD500X. For me, the best sound is to connect the guitar directly to the amp! That's it: Pure Analog Tube sound! And the DT-50 sounds great. Having said that: 1) I like the fact that only two cables are needed for them to be connected: guitar input jack and XLR for L6Link. Great. BUT once the guitar is connected to the POD, the signal is digitallized, right? It might be 24bit 48kHz, but you're losing tone (harmonics at least) for a start. Even in tunning mode? 2) What I need now is to have the DT-50 to make all the sounds. I mean, NO EMULATIONS/SIMULATIONS of any amp clean or distorted by the POD. How can I do that? So, the POD HD500X would simply be a controller of the DT-50, switching channels, from a clean to a crunch, from one voicing to another, from a rhythm sound to a solo and higher volume sound, etc. 3) After accomplish (2), then use the POD HD500X to add just simple effects as needed. Like a delay for a solo, or a wah, etc. If I can't make the (2) then I will sell the POD HD500X and buy some (analog) pedals. Thanks in advance.
  2. hi, I've just bought a DT25 and an HD500X. Both things are amazing, but I absolutely love the "Voicing IV modern high-gain" that comes with my DT25. However, I haven't been able to get the same sound when I plug the HD500X into my DT25. In other words, the amp by itself seems to sound better than the HD500X + the amp. Which is the amp that this Voicing IV on my DT25 is based on? I've been able to replicate the other 3 voicings (so, the HD500X + DT25 sounds almost identical to the DT25 sounds), but I can't find anything similar to Voicing IV (Bogner Uber pre is the most similar thing I've found, but I still prefer the DT25 original voicing). I'm using the HD500X Line6 link with an XLR AES/EBU (as recommended). All the amps in the HD500X are in "PRE" position, too. Can anybody help me, pls? Thanks
  3. Hi there, I am desperately trying to find an answer, but I don't find anything in the forum. Please excuse if there is an explanation already somewhere - So, I am using the Edit software for my HD500X, which is great. - I have a sound with three foot-switches assigned to an FX (FS1-FS3) - FS4 is still unassigned - I went to the tap "FX" and added an effect I like - Now I want this effect to be assigned to FS4 --> See image attached I cannot find any solution. If I go to "Controllers" I don't find this effect but I find the unassigned FS4... Very grateful for your help, thanks
  4. Hi guys. I'm looking at purchasing the Line6 POD HD500x. I want to combine this multi fx unit with a few analog pedals I have and possibly also my amp distortion (marshall jcm 900). I want to keep all my nice analog overdrive and distortion sounds that I use live already but I want to then add some sweet line6 delays, reverbs etc on top of this. Can I do this with the Line6 POD HD500x and will it affect my nice analog core sound that I've already got going? Cheers Jack
  5. I've been searching all day, but I cannot figure out how to switch patches via MIDI through FL Studio for the POD HD500X. I read an article (http://www.metalsucks.net/2013/03/08/rigged-within-the-ruins-guitarist-joe-cocchi/) where WithinTheRuins would trigger patch changes to their AxeFX via MIDI. What notes should be sent from an MIDI Out automation clip to trigger the change? Is there a specific port/channel that should be used? Has anyone done this through FL Studio? I have some understanding of how MIDI works, but obviously not enough. The advanced HD500X guide did not seem to document this functionality. Most of what was explained and shown online is HD500X sending MIDI out, not receiving MIDI in. I have seen people do this through ProTools and it looks pretty easy, I have had no luck trying it in FL Studio. Has anyone done this before? Thanks for any help!!
  6. I just connected my new HD500X to my two studio monitors via XLR. I am getting no sound to the speakers. I can't find my headphone adapter so I can't test if audio is going out at all. Just to confirm, I don't need any device between my 500X and my speakers right? XLR cables go directly from pedal to speaker? Is there a setting on the 500X where I have to specify XLR instead of 1/4 line? I just went through the setup guide and found nothing. I just tested, 1/4 gives sound. XLR does not. Thanks for any help
  7. Okay guys, I know other threads have been started about this, but I haven't gotten any answers from those, so here's the deal. I'm using a Mesa Boogie M9 Carbine head, and two SWR Goliath II cabinets, with a Yamaha RBX6JM bass. I wanted to use the POD HD500X for effects only. It appears the only way to connect it to the amp is with this "4 cable method," which I have tried. Problem is, all of the knobs on my amp become useless when I do this, like it's just a power amp. Can someone just tell me everything I have to do to get it like this: -complete control of amp head, with Mesa M9 tone -good sounding effects from the POD -plenty loud enough, and I can use the amp head volume Basically, use the 500x just exclusively for effects, leaving volume and tone without effects to my amp head. Can I do this with an HD500x? If not, what piece of equipment would do this? Basically I just want to have the closest thing to a pedal board without actually getting several different pedals and putting them on the board. Thanks in advance
  8. I've put this unit on the shelf for a while but I'm trying to work it again. My goal is to use my tube amps tone, but to have the effects needed available at my feet. Perhaps later, I'd like to have the 500x's clean tone set on a patch. One thing at a time) I tried the 4 cable method, channel 1A, removed all pedals, inactivated the "amp icon" on the display and the first thing I heard was NOT the amps tone but a clean tone. Once I reactivated the amp, I had all the possibilities of amps that are offered, but I wanted MY amp's tone. Only trying to do effects here. So I have questions... 1. Is my set up incorrect? 2. Within the Settings, I have 1 set to "Guitar", the 2nd is "Same". Is this correct? Why is there a second amp option, and how/should I remove it? 3. Is the 4cm the ideal way for me to go? 4. If I use the 4cm, how do I get my amps tone on everything except maybe 1 single preset to use for the cleans offered by the 500x? Any other tips or suggestion are appreciated. Cheers.
  9. Hi guys, I've recently bought a Pod HD500X and have installed some software to go with it (license manager, monkey, HD500X Edit, PodFarm 2), but I can't seem to license PodFarm 2. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, and unauthorized and reauthorized my computer, but I can't get it licensed. The application opens but prompts me to buy a license for the unauthorized software (which I already have from buying my Pod). Not sure if there's something simple I've completely missed or if it's a bit more of a tedious fix, but any help would be greatly appreciated! Just want to get recording :) Thanks in advance, James
  10. Hello everyone. I am using HD500X and the 4 cable method with a Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 I have been struggling with my ignorance on how to control the master output from each channel. But Struggle I mean I have no clue how to do it. :) So from scratch, to make it easy ,say i have my favorite rhythm channel 'A' and copy it to the next channel 'B'. I cant for the life of me figure out how to make the b(lead) channel louder. also struggling with the noise gate, should it be in the left or right side of the screen as being on the left if does not seem to be that affective. thanks in advance Rick
  11. Has anyone directly compared using the HD500 or HD500X with the ALTO TS110A with the YAMAHA DBR10? And has anyone compared either of those speaker options with using the HD500 or HD500x with the Line 6 L2M? If so - what were your views - how did they compare? Are the more expensive Yamaha and Line 6 speakers worth the extra? Thanks.
  12. Is there a good, reliable expression pedal made by a 3rd party that works well with the PODs? It's not critical that I get one before this weekend, but I would like to if possible, and none of the local places sell the Line 6 add-on pedal. I don't have time to order one from Amazon by then, either. What are some other brand external expression pedals I could look into at a Guitar Center or some place like that?
  13. First time messing with the HD Edit software, trying to create a patch with a harmonizer. But I want the harmony to be a half step, to achieve an affect similar to what you would hear in a Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza song. I assume the effect I would use would be the frequency shifter, but how would I set it to get a half step harmony?
  14. Having just acquired a POD HD500X a few weeks ago, I had no luck searching the web for a printable listing of the presets that come with the "factory settings" for the POD HD500X. So, I invested a few hours and put together an Excel spreadsheet with separate TABs for each of the (6) factory set lists, and (2) blank ones for User #1 and User #2 set lists. This is a good starting point for determining what you like, what you don't like, and what you want to tweak. Of course, you can also go to Custom Tones and download other patches, and it appears that many artists are now "selling" their HD500X patches via You Tube and other web sites. Hey, $1.00 for a patch might be worth it if you are in a time crunch. Hope this helps - it is formatted to print out each set list on (2) 8-1/2 x 11 pages (i.e. 32 patches per page). Feel free to modify to suit. This was not intended as a comprehensive list of all effects that each patch utilizes - you are better served using POD HD500X Edit software for that level of detail. This is more of a quick reference that you can use to cull out the best patches to build the rig that suits your style and needs best. FYI - got a great deal on a Line 6 DT50 hybrid tube amp last week - paired up with the HD500X and a Parker Nitefly and the possibilities are endless... VY/AE Line 6 POD HD500X Preset List.xlsx
  15. Had my first gig with my HD500x recently. Sometimes when I'd press the expression pedal toe switch, my tone's volume would switch to the level the volume knob was currently set to, which was quite annoying. I tested this yesterday and it does keep happening (sometimes, though very rarely, if I just mess with the pedal in general) from time to time. The display briefly shows the amp settings screen as if I had physically nudged the tone volume knob. Is this something that's happened to anyone or should I just take it in to get it repaired?
  16. Hi all. The advanteges of the hd500x have been discussed in several threads. Maybe it's time to talk about some disadvanteges. All of them are the result comparing the setup of my old Rack (Marshal JMP1, BOSS GX700 and TC G-Major) with the "all-in-one"-solution HD500X. First of all: The sound is great. Now the disadvanteges: 1. Switching time and "noise": Switching from one preset to another takes too long and produces noise on both outputs (line and XLR). This has been a suprise because switching the presets on my old stuff (which is in fact a program change on three somewhat old devices) is not noticable. Even switching to the same sound (e.g. from 8C to 8C) causes the interrupt and crackle. That's the major weakness. Still searching for a solution on this. 2. MIDI-Controller: Our Band-Setup is all done by the stage sequencer. Here it sends CC 7 and CC 11 for the volume-pedal and a global value for predefined effect values. The HD500X is only capable of receiving CC 1 and CC 2, which is usually Modulation Wheel and Breath Controller. Even this does not follow MIDI-Standard it would cause a lot of effort to re-programm the sequenzer and would make it afterwards unusual for my old setup. I ended up with a MOLTON VOLTAGE OSMOSIS, which translates the incomming controller 7 to 1 and 11 to 2. 3. No Volume-independant XLR: There seems to be no way to make the XLR-Outputs independent from the master-knop. This implies that every time I got the feeling, that my stage sound is to loud or not loud enough our mixer gets a problem. Realy love the JMP1 for that feature. If anyone has a solution or tip for No. 1 it would be highly welcome. Still hope I can get the baby running. Chris
  17. Hello guys, I was looking for such a topic, but could not find. If it exists, please give me a link and kill this topic.. Just bought a new POD HD500X. Could you tell how can I mute one channel entirely? In presets I have 2 parallel amps, and mixer, 100% left and 100% right, one amp gets muted by a control. Output goes from unbalanced channels to amps. I use it on live gigs, had Morley di box before. When I press the control on POD HD500X, I still hear the clean sound from the muted channel. Could you tell if you know how to make it properly? Maybe you have a tone with such function? Thanks!
  18. Hello all, I am considering purchasing the model pack expansion for the HD500x but have a couple of questions. I have an HD500x and use it regularly for gigs, recording, rehearsals etc. So much so that I'm going to be buying a second hd500x as a backup. I want to have matching presets on both units so it's a seemless switch if something does happen. If I buy the model pack(s) for the HD500X is this a license for only one unit? Or is it good for multiple HD500X's for the same registered user? Thanks for any info, advice, etc!
  19. Is anyone using a M5 in the FX Loop of their HD550X? Just have a few simple questions before I dive in.
  20. I bought the Ultimate Model Packs Bundle before the HD500X was released, and the individual Power Packs b4 that... I was wondering if I could get the HD Model Packs for FREE ? I no longer have the POD Studio UX2. Bought the POD Farm Plug-In as well... Doesn't hurt to ask...thx.
  21. I have never owned a 300 but a friend of mine is telling me that his HD500 would not power the 300 through the variax cable. He has upgraded to a 500x now but can any of you verify if the 300 power should be supported by either unit?
  22. Check out my little tune using the new Roland Jazz Chorus amp model and the Gallien-Kruger bass amp model on the #HD500X. Both of these were just released with the new amp bundle for Pod HD500, HD500X, HD Pro, and HD ProX. I'm also playing both a JTV Variax and Variax Bass.
  23. Hey guys, Check out my latest video showcasing the new 5150 amp model.
  24. I have both the 500 and the 500X -- got the 500X because I wanted a backup. I had the XTLive -- bought it in 2005 or 2006 when I got my Variax 300 and had a midi pedal to my FX shoot craps. In 2009, the XTL died at a gig and I had to make due without. The wall wart power input jack on the XTL failed, and left me dead in the water. I went to GC and picked up the new (at the time) X3Live -- was able to import the XTL patches into the X3L. When I got my JTV-59 in 2011 I wanted the better JTV control features of the HD500, so it was not long before I got the 500. Well, with the XTL failure experience in the back of my head, I saw my way clear to buy the 500X when that had just come out, so I could use one as a backup. I also got a JTV-69S in 2012 as a backup to my 59.... I'm an engineer, and tend to think in terms of contingencies... Yeah, I know, but just the way I am... I was able to put my set lists from the 500 into the 500X, and was off. Over time, went through some updates, and my patches evolved, like everybody who tweaks, I decided to put my current set lists into my backup 500 to keep them both alike, but noticed the 2 units sounded different with the same patches. I have a thread on here describing the differences: http://line6.com/support/topic/7649-500-500x-side-by-side-comparison/?do=findComment&comment=53117 Anyway -- I was also looking forward to this latest round of FW and software updates this last week. I did the 2.61 500X FW updates then bought and installed the full model pack set. Found the Global EQ was not doing anything. so when they fixed that with 2.62, it was ready for the HD 500 as well. Got the 500X squared away Tursday, then did the 500 on Friday night, and installed the model packs on that as well -- settled an uncertainty we've been reading about concerning multiple installs -- everybody said we should be able to, and I was able to get it on both. The License manager is a bit fussy -- had de-authorize some stuff to get 'er done. what up with that -- heaven help you if you buy more than 3 things that need to be authorized... jeesh... I digress... I just want to report that with the 2.62 FW updates, the 500 and the 500X now DO sound EXACTLY alike. Before the update, the 500 sounded quite a bit more "treble-y" than the 500X with the same patches. After the update - completely the same. Also with all the updates, I saw they had updates for the JTV's -- updated HD Workbench for the new Standard Variax, but also a FW update for the JTV -- FW 2.21. It's the first one I've seen with absolutely not firmware realease notes. I asked if anybody knew what it was about on the JTV section of the Forum -- nobody seems to -- never heard from Digital Igloo or any other L6 Staffers. http://line6.com/support/topic/12901-jtv-fw-221-whats-new-in-it/?view=findpost&p=90279 Well, I gritted my teeth and updated both the 59 & 69S. I haven't found any bad issues with it, but really can't tell any positive changes, either. Anybody here heard what it was about? Wanted to thank the L6 folks for a fairly smooth update. the 2.60 to 2.61 to 2.62 fixes were pretty timely. My HD500X & JTV update installs went very smoothly. I had 2 USB communication errors when installing the 2.62 update to the 500. I disconnected any other connections to the 500 and made sure the USB cable was firmly in place, and it worked. Thanks, Dave
  25. On the POD HD500X, is there a way to move (or maybe copy and paste) a preset from one setlist to another? I want to gather the presets I use most often together into one of the empty user setlists, so I don't have to move back and forth between different setlists all the time. The manual shows how to move a preset within a setlist, but not how to move it to a different setlist. Can this be done?
