  1. Hello everyone. I need help with how to wire my newly purchased Line 6 Helix and all my other gear. I am somewhat new to setting up all these effects, cables, noisegates and whatnot.. I need a specific step by step way to connect following: Guitar, Line 6 Helix, Mesa Boogie Gridslammer (Overdrive pedal to tighten it up), Ernie Ball Volume pedal, Ibanez Weeping Demon (Wah pedal) , ISP Decimator Pro Rack G (Rack mounted noise gate with 2 channels - This is the one I am having issue with connecting properly), DBX 266 XL (Rackmounted compressor) and last but not least my Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.... Which goes where? What goes in the loop? What does not? I could really use someone who knows his gear to help me with this cable nightmare. Thank you very much -Zilver90
  2. Greetings, y'all. Greetings, y'all! I've seen several threads of people breaking their exp pedal on helix LT, some even broke two in a row. And I've seen some one referring to an official statement that it is not an inherent design flaw rather than just a manufactoring one (they say, one metal press did not work properly, or something like that). If it really is just one press, and it really was fixed there should be an information on what units can have this issue and what units can not, based on their s/n and/or manufactoring date. Can I haz it pweees? Ya know, so i can avoid defected ones. Yeah, i know, their awesome customer service will send me new unit, if i ever break one. But here's the catch: i'm not gonna contact local official dealer, because they charge almost twice the price (like 1800$ for LT or so, lol), so i'm going to some unofficial pushers who charge an adequate amount of 1000$. And here's more: I don't trust our postal service, because they can easily loose a package, especially if it's the expensive one, so i can't bank on having my replacement straight from Line6 in case anything happens.
  3. Apple MacBook Pro 15" 2016 OSX High Sierra Logic Pro X 10.4.1 Helix Edit 2.5.2 Helix Firmware 2.5.4 We had a problem with our Helix when all of a sudden it would crash when connected into a Logic Session. We discovered that it was tied to Logic's Control Surfaces when, in Logic, we selected "Logic Pro X-->Control Surfaces-->Bypass All Control Surfaces". This would allow the Helix to connect to the computer without crashing, but be unusable in Logic. We then found a Logic Pro forum post referencing how to reset the control surfaces preference. To do this, we Quit Logic. We went to "User Library (Finder-->Go-->[Hold Alt/Option] Library)-->Preferences" and deleted the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" When we restarted Logic and connected the HELIX, everything was working again! Hope this helps others with our problem.
  4. So.. It's been awhile since i've used Snapshots.. I'd say quite a few months. I've been recording alot lately. Well, i'm having a hard time actually getting them to work for some reason.. It's a little hard to describe so i'll do the best I can. I don't know if I hit something by accident, but on all my presets that i've made, I typically use the "Stomp/Snap" setting. Now... it's still set to that setting, however the four bottom switches are just inactive.. There's no lights indicating that anything can be changed. I can no longer switch between snapshots while performing. The top switches work totally fine for stompbox purposes.. But the bottom ones aren't doing anything. The bottom ones however do work normally if I set them to stomps, just not for snaps. Any help would be awesome, I can't figure this one out.
  5. So i LOVE the tones i'm getting from my Helix, but when a friend came over and i played his pedalboard fit with all the Tone God pedals.... i want them back! i want them all back! i miss my El Cap, I miss my King Of Tone! So how about Line 6 make a Helix Amp Only pedal? It could be half the size of the HX Effects (heck, even inter lock with it or something) and just do Amp Modeling, IRs, and maybe ONE effect.
  6. my amp makes this constant cracking/buzzing noise when I connect my amps line IN to helix LT's left mono 1/4'' line OUT. I don't have to switch on the helix, simply plugging into the power socket creates this noise. It doesn't happen when I use my podhd 500. Also, I realized this doesn't happen when I connect helix and the amp in the same surge protector box. I might not have the option to use the same power strip for amp and helix. please help Dhawal
  7. Just recently purchased a Helix, however having a bit of a hum issue on an Overdrive setting , attempted to get a similar tone to what I've been using on my HD 147 head , so dialled in the same settings on the Cali rectifire setting , and boy what a hum I'm getting from helix via l2t cab, yet if go back to the head and cab almost no interference, anyone any ideas ??
  8. I am trying to set a minimum & a maximum volume level on the Helix. Say a heel position set at 60% & toe at 100%. I have this this set up on my HD500, but I cannot seem to figure out how to do this on the Helix. Can anyone assist?
  9. Hi All, sure you have discusse dthis before but.. Do you use EQ globally or as a block or not at all? The reason I ask this is when i hear guitar players not using Line 6 Helix they seem to have a more mid range sound and when I hear Helix (most of the time) its like the sound of it has a EQ curse that ..well is lacking that mid range. So if you see that too do you add a global EQ or EQ in line in a block? Its kinda like when you add a good IR thats been properly mic in the studio with EQ. https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/sumo-2018-3-16/ (latest recording) our post process deals with this but i want to have a more pleasing sound during our session Someone described it as a kinda a scooping EQ (describing Line 6 sound by default
  10. I am trying to place modulation, delay & reverb effect within the Helix after the preamp stage of my amp. Is there any reason why I couldn't utilise a send from the Helix to the input of my amp & return this from the amps preamp out to the Helix return then use the 1/4" mono out to the amps return? so the signal chain would be Guitar - into the Helix through any Wah, Distortion Crompression etc - out of the Helix Send - into Amp input - From Amp Preamp out - to Helix return & through modulation, delay reverb - out of Helix 1/4" mono out - into Amp's return. A y thiughts Is there any reason why I cannot send a
  11. Hello, (my first post). I'm close to purchasing a Helix. I currently play Tom Anderson guitars (T, S, and LP) through a pedalboard into a Carr Skylark. I want to move to Helix only. (No guitar amp or pedalboard) I primarily play at church and at home. At church there are no wedges, everyone uses IEM. (So I don't need any wedge, backline, etc.) My main concern is how to monitor at home? I would like for it to sound good at home but my primary concern is being able to create tones at home that will sound as good as possible in the church FOH. We have a very professional sound system and full time audio guys. I've asked one of the Sweetwater reps and he has suggested the Line 6 L2M. I have read many forums and watched countless videos but I've not found my situation. It seems like most players are using some type of stage monitoring as well. (which I don't need) It doesn't seem like headphones are the way to go. So I'm primarily looking between studio monitors such as the Yamaha HS, or some form of PA speaker such as the L2M or the Yamaha DBR/DRX. I hate to ask the same similar question but I'm fairly confused. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Helix Vs. AX8

Had a fun time comparing a buddy of mine's AX8 today to my Helix! We've each only had our respective units for a very short amount of time so there are things about each we're still learning. However I've been a LONG TIME Line 6 user and he's been an Axe FX user for several years. So not completely new territory. Spoiler alert: If you can't get a good tone out of either one of these units, it's your fault. Plain and simple. It's not that your ears are that discerning, you just don't know what you're doing. Sorry, maybe guitar playing isn't your calling. With that out of the way let me move on. The signal path was Crate Powerblock into Friedman 2x12 with one Vintage 30 and one Creamback. It produced about as much "amp in the room" sound as you could ask for. All tones done on each unit were amp only with no speaker modelling. As a side note, also in the room was a Friedman Dirty Shirley with matching 1x12 cabinet, so there was a high end tube amp there for reference. Admittedly I felt like bringing a Line 6 product into a room with a Fractal product for a comparission put me as the underdog. From everything I've read online the Helix has the competition beat on features, but what about pure amp tone? I'm here to say that the Helix held it's own and then some. At no point did I feel like the Helix was a step behind the AX8. Just dialed up an amp and it sounded amazing right out of the gate. Something Line 6 has MASSIVELY struggled with in the past. I've owned literally every incarnation of Line 6's product line and this is the first time they've produced a product that doesn't demand a ton of tweaking to find the magic sweet spot. This opinion was echoed by my friend who is a long time Fractal user. So not just my opinion in a vacuum. As a Helix user I feel compelled to point out the positives of it in this comparison, so that's exactly what I'm going to do. Not to take anything away from the AX8, but this is where I'm coming from. I'll leave room for AX8 users, or my friend with the AX8, to chime in here. Here are the pluses for Helix: The UI: on the Helix it is far and away more advanced than on the AX8. I'm speaking in terms of the on unit UI and not the PC editor. The Helix Editor isn't out yet so no way to compare that. But for using each unit stand alone the Helix UI is hands down the winner. Everything is faster, easier, and more intuative. Assigning pedals and controllers, using pedal edit mode, etc. Not a knock on the AX8, just showing how much design effort went into the Helix UI. Flexibility and routing: Again, this is another area that Helix shines. If you can dream it up, you can route it in Helix. And do so very easily thanks to a very intuative UI. Want a signal path with 4 drives, 6 delays, and 3 reverbs? No problem with Helix. Plus the 4 physical send/receives give you loads of flexibility to incorporating outboard gear. Need to route your dry guitar signal one place, your wet guitar signal another, and the looper another? No problem. Ease of creating tones: I was surprised that my vote for this would go to Helix. As a long time Line 6 user I'm used to spending hours dialing in the perfect tone. With Helix things just work. We found that amps, and especially effects, were very quick on the Helix. Everything was more or less in place and ready to go. You just had to add it to the signal chain and make adjustments to suit your taste. Ease of use: When using this as a live unit I have to give the nod to Helix here. The scribble strips, with customize-able text, were gold. I know exactly what function each pedal is performing. Something that was a challenge on the HD500(X). Along with the very large color screen showing exactly what's going on it's a breeze to use this thing live. The AX8 takes a more basic approach, and is very workable, but not on the same level as Helix. Built in expression pedal: Having a built in expression pedal, with a toe switch, is a big deal. At least to me. With an external pedal I'm left to choose one function of the expression pedal instead of two. Overall tone: I felt like this could go either way. On this day I think our Helix presets were pretty rockin', but either unit can be tailored to do EXACTLY what you want. They both sound awesome. I can say with all honesty though that the Helix didn't give up an inch tone wise. Which surprised the both of us. BTW, the Friedman Dirty Shirley model on the AX8 was spot on and we both felt like bringing the "real" dirty shirley into the equation was pointless. The AX8 simply sounded as good or better than the real deal. Sorry tube snobs, but facts are facts Pluses for the AX8: It did sound really good! There's no denying that, nor any reason to. It's an awesome unit. Amp models: In terms of sheer number of amp models there isn't a contest between these two units. The AX8 far outpaces the Helix by a mile. However the question is how many amp models do you need? Maybe I'm playing devil's advocate here, but I don't find that I have trouble covering all the ground I need with Helix's selection. Totally a matter of opinion though. Much respect for the sheer amount of work Cliff has put into modelling this number of amps. If the amount of amp models is most important to you then there is no comparison. Form factor: This could go either way. Overall I'll take the Helix because of the built in expression pedal and increased number of ins/outs. But I do like the compactness of the AX8. The Helix is big and heavy. I'm a Helix owner so obviously you can tell that I am going to lean towards the Helix. Having said that I can say with COMPLETE honesty that the Helix really shined today when comparing the two. All things being equal I take the Helix all day long and don't regret the purchase for a minute. My buddy was even joking about buying one once he sold off some of his other gear Most importantly though is that fact that there are two INCREDIBLE units on the market for, given what they do, not a lot of money. It is an amazing time to be a guitar player. I've been playing way long enough to remember when it wasn't so. I remember playing through a Crate solid state amp.....wow how times have changed!! So as a community let's be thankful for the tools at our disposal. We live in a great time to be a musician and let's truly appreciate these miracle boxes that can be had for less than the cost of a Marshall half stack "back in the day". Or this day for that matter. Cheers!

    Helix with DT25

Okay, I just bought a DT25 to run with my Helix. I did so to get a variety of options and have tubes pushing the power amp section of my rig. I am running it in 4CM and the Helix tones are as expected and tight. When I create a patch with the DT in the mix I am having issues on the effects at the back side of the amp. All my effects before the amp (Phase, Flanger, ETC) work great but my delays and reverb effects after the amp are not. YES they are turned on and I have played with the volume and control settings on the effect to no avail... Any thoughts????
  14. I made a cool little addition to my board to help with the problem of overloading my Strymons. Yes I know that I need to hide that cable :-) Craig

    Overwhelmed

Got my helix out of the box a few hours ago, super stoked, but feeling a little overwhelmed as well. Had a spider jam before, but never had anything like the Helix. Any good videos or tips you could recommend? I tried to get on line 6 video site, but could not get it to open. Thanks!
  16. Hello All!, first session of 2018! Using Variax and Helix listen to SuMo *(SuperMassiveMomentum) perform live over the internet from California, Colorado and Canada ..all in real time!. SuMo is three veteran musicians playing unscripted improvised progressive music...heavy, grooving, shredding...its all here!. Listen the the master at 96k!. Comments welcome. Tech: I used some of the new reverb's in this recording (spotlight my favorite) Follow us on our adventure https://www.facebook.com/SupermassiveMomentum/ https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/sumo-2018-3-16/
  17. Hey guys, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjmTf31MAe8 Not sure what effect this is, does anyone know? Also, I assume this type of effect can have the tempo adjusted accordingly to suit? Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is this effect available on the Helix? The effect comes in at around the 0:16 mark.. To me, it’s not quite flanger/not quite phaser.. kinda like a helicopter, or something.. Thanks.
  18. I love my Helix LT, a truly best-in-class modeler/fx unit! But the built-in looper is lacking. Can you please make a best-in-class stand-alone looper that works both on its own and also seamlessly with Helix? It should have multitrack, visual place indicator, great support for multiple time signature, ability to import midi drum loops/drum tracks, etc. I would also love to just connect a looper to Helix via USB cable and have it carry digital audio, midi commands/clock to/from the Helix, and also allow usb daisy chain from computer, looper, and Helix, so that I can still use the Helix edit with the looper connected the Helix via usb. I know, a pipe dream. But every great product starts out as a pipe dream, right? Thanks.
  19. Hello. I'm trying to control my feedback parameter in my delay. With expression pedal 2. This by default controls too the volume pedal. I assign the the feedback parameter to a delay. But when i control it with the expression pedal also the volume come down. Any ideas how to make expression pedal 2 to just control de feedback without affecting the volume? Thanks!
  20. I'm a long time lover and user of the M9. Even though Line6 is widely regarded in many guitar playing circles as being low quality, I just haven't been able to find a pedal that fits the bill better on my pedalboard I just recently got a helix LT because amp modelling seems like it's taking off lately, but I miss some of the effects on the M-series that I'm sure could be improved by the helix's processing power. Specifically, I'm missing the growler synth effect, and all the other guitar synth effects. Those were great! Why is there just a synth generator in the helix and no guitar synth? Can we get that in there without my having to put my M9 in my effects loop? Thanks a lot.
  21. I just received my Helix, so I am speed programming my sounds for my gig next Sunday. I'm in a coverband, so I need lots of sounds! I don't no how many times I have pressed the joystick button to try to pick a block up, move it with the joystick and press the joystick to put it down. But that doesn't work!! As you all know, pressing the joystick opens the list of effects, cabs, etc. It drives me crazy!! Is that just me?? I just can't seem to change my routine! I would very much like to be able to switch the functions of the action-button and the joystick-button. Would be great for a next update!!
  22. I'm struggling to create what I think is a pretty straightforward signal chain, can anyone help me please? It would be this: Guitar, three mono pedals, (Boost, comp, EQ, etc) into a stereo reverb that then spits the signal into stereo and feeds two ams planned hard left and right. This is a setup I use with my pedals and amps and it's also a setup used by a lot of the modern jazz guys like Jonathan Kreisberg and Mike Moreno. Also, I'm a bit confused by Wet-Dry-Wet explanation on the Sean Halley Helix vid. My understanding of WDW was that the signal was this: Left and right are wet signal only through two cabs hard left and right and the dry signal was fed to a central cab – correct me if I'm wrong but that that was the Bob Bradshaw method used by Mike Landau, Steve Lukather and maybe even Scott Henderson. Can this be achieved with the Helix or am I asking too much? Also while I'm here, I'd love it if someone could explain the thinking behind some of the preset patches as the vast majority seem to be unusable or just plain bad. Apart from that, I'm loving it. Boneyt
  23. Hey Guys, Today I have a Foo Fighters guitar tone for you. I took inspiration from the Wasting Light Album. I used Ownhammer Impulse Response IR’s this time. 24. Hello Line6, I am French, so i'm trying to explain my problem in English... I just bought the Helix, test it, and i can say that it's really good ! :D But when i wire it to my Mac with USB, and Line6 app installed, every thing works fine, but about 1 minute later, the sound that output from the Mac has about 5 to 10 seconds of latency... I check from my Mac system parameter, and the audio level output is showing that latency, so i think it's a Helix problem... I wire my head head phones to the "Phone" output of the Helix (with USB wire still in the Mac), and i can hear that there is no more lantency in the headphones... I installed the last updates from the Line6 Updater app (Last update that i can find on 25 february 2018), but i experienced same problem. I check in the Line6 forum for any post that can explain that, but i didn't found any answer. So, I post this because I don't know if i missed changing some configurations and/or parameters to avoid this latency/get a workaround... Here are some informations : Mac : MacOSX High Sierra 10.13.2 (17C88) I you want some other informations, just let me know ! Hope you can help, Thank you for your support, and see you later !
