Yo, Helix brainiacs! I miss the days of wirelessly connecting to the Firehawk for editing during live performances. Could actually get some crazy effects by tweaking the delay parameters in the middle of a trail , and other cool stuff. And there's a bunch of other reasons for live use of the editor that i'll spare you. As for the foot control- g'head , but it doesn't work as well as a tablet or laptop for me. I've been researching and coming up with zip- any suggestions for wirelessly connecting laptop to the USB -B on the Helix ? Otherwise , i'll stick to my 10 foot USB cable. Thanks

Hello everyone! I'm having issues getting Helix Native to pan in order to run a different signal path to the right and left. I would like to take one mono clip and, in one instance of Helix Native, split it left and right. When I pan Helix Native's "Host Output" hard right, it will always be silent on playback, when I pan it hard left, it gets slightly quieter but will still play at an equal volume on both speakers. I can have the track panned hard left, hard right or center in Logic Pro's track editor, and these results are always the same when I make the changes within Helix Native's "Host Output": Silent when hard panned right, loudest at center, slightly quieter at hard left. Here are some pictures of my signal chain and host output that I'm referring to, could I be overlooking anything?

Hello. I'm quite tempted to purchase a Helix to replace my trusty Bass Pod XT Live now that Line6 no longer provides working software for in on macOS Mojave ; but I'm weary of one thing: I'm using a Variax bass with the Bass POD, and they have dedicated presets, and communication mechanisms. However, in the Helix user manual, there are plenty of references to what one can do with the Variax Standard or James Tyler guitar, but exactly zero reference to the Variax basses. What exactly is the level of interaction I can expect ? e.g.: "nothing", "just power", "power and audio", "bass knobs work like EXP-n pedals like on Variax guitars", "preset change can change the emulated bass in the bass ? What else ?

Hi there, I have benn using my Helix LT for a year or two now and one of the feature I use the most is midi remote control from Cubase 10. We play to a clic and follow a Cubase project and all my preset and snapshot changes are triggered from a midi track in cubase assigned to helix through midi over USB. What I would like to do now is to get rid of the FBV shortboard MKII that I use to start, stop and navigate through Cubase markers and use Helix to do that instead. The problem I run into is that whenever I go to a certain marker using Helix as my midi remote, Cubase then sends back a midi program change command to Helix in order to go to the appropriate preset. When this happens, Helix then transmit back a midi command to Cubase telling it where it's at and releasing the footswitch now that I'm in a new preset also sends a midi command back to Cubase... this gives some weird behaviors like midi feedback and dual commands (press once but feels like I pressed twice) and most of the time all will fail. Is there a way to seperate the midi channel from the DAW remote from the midi channel from the preset/snapshot control? Thank you!

Hi all, This will hopefully be a very simple question (: I just got my helix, I'm new to the digital/modeling world and am used to the very simple guitar > pedalboard > amp setup for gigs. Obviously I searched for tutorials and videos but couldn't find anything clear enough for me to understand, so please explain to me like a 5 year old- How do I connect my helix straight to FOH for playing live (no cabs/amp or anything)? Thanks!

Hi all, I've seen some discussion on this, but nothing so far that has been able to help me figure this out. I just downloaded HX Edit and bought the OwnHammer 412 Rect IR pack. I'm pretty sure I have everything updated and am signed in, but keep getting the following error message when I try to import them: HX Edit was unable to import IRs in this set due to following errors: -8209 - Service does not support the requested function. Any ideas? I have the Line 6 Updater, although it doesn't show any devices that I can update. It currently shows that I'm running Helix LT 2.30 and HX Edit 2.71. Thanks in advance for the help!

Today we take a look at the Duncan PowerStage 170. A solid-state, 170 watt, floorboard sized power amp perfect for powering a guitar cab with the Line 6 Helix or the effects processor of your choice. I ended up using it to do a shootout of a few of my mics… Shure SM 57 Dynamic Shure SM 7B Cardioid Dynamic Blue Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Audio Technica AT 2035 Large-Diaphragm Condenser I routed DI signals from my DAW, through the Line 6 Helix Rack, and into the Seymour Duncan PowerStage powering an Overton 212. Thanks to my buddy Patrick for loaning me this beast. The mics were tracked using my Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo MkI The PowerStage is great. It gets SUPER LOUD with plenty of headroom for stage sound. I kept the 3 band EQ flat for this test. Some pretty great results. I was blown away at how these mics sound. **MAKE NOTE** I kept referring to the Audio Technica AT 2035 as the “ATH 2035.” Apologies My buddy Patrick aka “Gunderslam” https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoZORROIhtqek7Tl329vGPg Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerStage170--seymour-duncan-powerstage-170-170-watt-pedal-board-guitar-amp-head Shure SM 57 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SM57--shure-sm57 Shure SM 7B https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SM7B--shure-sm7b-cardioid-dynamic-vocal-microphone Blue Bluebird https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BluebirdSL--blue-microphones-bluebird-sl-large-diaphragm-condenser-microphone Audio Technica ATH 2035 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT2035--audio-technica-at2035-large-diaphragm-condenser-microphone nickhillmakesmusic@gmail.com

I'm trying to install the newest HX Edit update, but it fails to verify. Line 6 has a note on the download page for if that issue occurs to download the Line 6 MD5 Checksum utility but the link leads to a page that says there is no Line 6 MD5 Checksum utility download. HELP! Not sure what I did. But it works. haha

Hi First time posting here, been lurking for a while reading up all I can about the HX Stomp. I'm a complete noob when it comes to digital effects. I'm gonna take the plunge and get one but wanted to check a few things before i do. The main way i'm hoping to use it is with a preamp block with various effects into the power amp section of my Fender HRD amp for onstage monitoring, with a mix going out to the PA. With this in mind: 1. Does this option mean all the volume for my amp will be controlled from the stomp and will this be loud enough (the amp is 40 watts but I'm not sure if this is determined by the preamp or power amp stage)? Will I get significant volume loss? 2. Has anyone tried this option using real OD/boost pedals in front of the stomp and does it sound good with preamp blocks? 3. Will I have to set up separate amp/cab (or IR blocks) for the split path going to the PA or can i just use a single IR block using the same preamp block that's going to the HRD? 4. I'm not the most tech savvy player and i'm a little put off by all the global options (i.e impedance input level etc). Has anybody found these options to be overwhelming? I'm hoping to just be able to plug in and play for the most part. Many thanks, Mike

The Looper How do I find the Looper? Most factory presets already have a Looper block, ready to go. If your preset doesn't, or you cleared all the blocks, Looper blocks can be selected from the very bottom of the Model List, below the Send/Return category. How much looping time do I get? For mono looping, Helix gives you up to 120 seconds 1/2-speed or 60 seconds full speed. There’s also a new stereo looper, which gives you 60 seconds 1/2-speed or 30 seconds full speed. Why does the Looper stop when I switch presets? Helix's looper can maintain playback and recording across presets as long as the target preset: Has the same type of looper block (mono or stereo) Has the looper block on the same path (1 or 2) Has the looper block assigned to a footswitch Otherwise, loop recording/playback will stop. Basic Looper Usage Helix can add one mono or stereo Looper block per preset. The Looper can exist anywhere on either Path 1 or Path 2. See Looper Footswitch Mode for information on using the Looper. Using a Dual signal path: Keep in mind that the looper is only available for one signal path at a time. So if you're using a second signal path, you will noticed a significant drop in volume, since the looper is only on one path. Looper Settings Knob Parameter Description 1 Playback: Adjusts looper playback level. You may find it useful to turn this down a bit so your live guitar can be slightly louder. 2 Overdub:Sets the level of your loop while overdubbing. For example, if your Overdub Level is set to 90%, each time your loop repeats, its volume will be reduced by 10%, sounding quieter and quieter with each overdub pass. 3 Low Cut and Low Cut: Filters a portion of the loop's bass and/or treble frequencies, which can improve the mix with your live guitar. For more information check out the manual here.

Do you guys use Helix DSP Values? "Helix allows 16 inputs per path so the values I have assigned are based on a DSP being one 16th. So If an effect has a value of 2 then you potentailly can have 8 of them in one path." says the author of that sheet. It works for me in case of amps and FXs but... 2048 IR loader has 2.6 value and can be loaded only once per path. What is wrong?

Hi, I noticed that when I record a loop (single layer), the volume of its playback drops quite a lot compared with anything I play on it (even not overdubbing another loop on it), or compared to the volume when I recorded it. I think it was like that also in the HD500, but not this bad. This happens when in the looper (mono looper) settings I have "playback" and "overdub" at 0 dB, and the low/high cuts are at 20Hz/20kHz. Is there any way to increase the volume of the playback (and not the volume of what I play over it....)? Thanks!

I just got a Helix and I'm liking it ok by it's self, but I'm running into some midi issues that are getting a little frustrating. I want to set it up to control my Strymon Mobius, TimeLine, and BigSky with midi without having to dedicate a loop to each. Here's where I'm at and maybe someone can suggest a way I can get this to work. I did have the Helix set up using the 4 cable method with my amp in loop 1. The 3 strymon pedals above are in loop 2 all assigned to their own midi channels. I also have a poly tune set up in loop 3 to be always on (the Helix tuner isn't that great). I have a Riverside OD set up in Loop 4 with the favorite function being controlled using the CV connector on Helix. With it set up like this I can get everything to work in stomp box mode without any problems excluding the lights on the Helix sometimes getting out of sync with the pedal. For example pedal is bypassed but the Helix light for that channel is illuminated (no big deal, I can live with this minor issue). I used midi CC# 80,81, and 82 to toggle the Strymon pedals A and B (and C on BigSky) buttons. The problems began when I started to set up Snapshots. I tried using the Instant commands to bring up a patch on a desired pedal using the midi program function 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. That method would bring up patches ok but when I toggled through the Snapshots some of the presets would be on when I didn't want them to be and would then toggle off when I wanted them to be on etc... After a little more research I found out that I needed a bypass command to apply before the new preset could be commanded on. After research I found out that Helix can't change CC# with snapshots, only the values within a CC. After finding this out I decided to go a different route. Now, Try 2... I've got the Helix completely reset to factory defaults. I cleared all blocks on the first preset and started fresh. I wired all strymon pedals in their own FX Loop so I can toggle off by bypassing the the block (I hate to loose the 4 cable method here, but I guess I can live with that for now). Ive set them up in stomp box mode and got everything working just as I had last time. Now on the the Snapshots I run into problems again. I would save each snapshot by going into stomp box mode and toggle on what I wanted then save each accordingly. Doing that I got the Mobius and Timeline to work, BUT the BigSky wants to be a BigPain in the ....... !! This pedal will not respond correctly no matter what channel its on, what program# I choose, even the CC80, 81, and 82 for the bank buttons. For example, If I toggle on a preset in bank A it will toggle that on and off when commanded to toggle Bank C. If I press the Bank A button on the Bigsky to switch it back to that bank it will work for a couple of snapshot changes and then back to the wrong preset. Sometimes it works fine going from Snaphot 1 to 2 to 3, but when I go from 3, to 2, to 1 it gets all messed up again. It's completely erratic behavior and I can't duplicate the issue to track down a solution. I've checked the commands on each snapshot and they are correct and set up the same as the TimeLine and Mobius. I've gone into global settings on the BigSky and Helix and tried different combinations as well as a factory reset on the BigSky, same thing. Any ideas??? I'm really hoping to get this resolved because I really want to keep the Helix as part of my rig. If not I'll ditch it for a Mastermind PCB. Sorry for the novel!

Hi, I admittedly have not had enough time to physically test the cable to make this work but I cannot seem to find a clear answer before I go down the rabbit hole- maybe somebody has had this pop up also? I bought the HX Stomp and want to use it with a Boss MS3 for a fly rig. My goal would be to hook up the MS3 in the FX Loop of the HX Stomp for maximum flexibility of effects ordering. The MS3 is a mono TS input with 2 stereo TS outputs. I want to use those stereo outputs for some of the delays and additional signal routing possible as a result. I am well versed in the HD500 from the past, Helix Native and also HX Effects for editing tones/signals and such. On the HX Stomp, can I create an FX block that allows for the mono send but with stereo returns on it? Any special work arounds to consider on this? I am pretty certain the MS3 will not like a TRS cable at it's input which would neutralize the FX TRS send, I just don't know how a TS cable on FX Send from HX Stomp will affect the block as a return in stereo. It seems like only real work around is 2 blocks, a mono send and then a stereo return - any other ways to do this as 1 block? Thank you all in advance for the help!!

helix Idea for Helix based Knowledge that I want some opinions on
PhilDuggan posted a topic in Helix
Hello Everyone, Firstly, before I begin I would like to preface this by saying that if such a resource exists that I am about to propose please by all means link it and have a moderator or admin shut this thread down I would rather be told I haven't looked hard enough than to waste both your own and my time. From my own experience as a Helix user I have realised I have barely scratched the surface of what this device can do and for me going through articles and forum posts can be a bit of a drag while also intimidating. As a result I have been sitting on the idea of creating video based content to help users learn more about how to get the most out of the Helix, but I wanted to ask the community as I am just one person and my opinion is subjective. I know of the likes of Jason Sadites who puts out some amazing content and Helix help that already do a lot to help the community learn so that may already defeat the purpose of what I am asking. To Flesh out the idea: - A video based resource that provides detailed information on a stock helix set up - Deep dives into individual effects, amps and cabs etc. so that option paralysis is reduced and people can understand best what to use in a certain situation e.g. If someone were to ask how do I create a smooth Blues tone for lead and rhythm then there would be a video available that details the blocks that you could use and how certain amps/cab combos will give a different flavour to the general sound and some effects that you can use to further your soundscape. - Making all of this content centralised so that it is readily available to everyone - A view to expanding the content beyond stock Helix e.g using Impulse Responses, which ones work well for what purpose and more I have seen there are quite a few videos out there for the Axe-Fx and when you search that exact term in the likes of Youtube you will get results on generating presets or information on different amps quickly. While searching "Line 6 Helix" will primarily bring up reviews, first impressions, opinion videos, comparisons and you will have to make a more specific search such as "Line 6 Helix blues presets" to find more information on that side of things. I fully appreciate, if you are looking for a tutorial on Blues tone you are probably going to search the more specific version. The ultimate goal is to create a centralised platform/resource that will help people to master the Helix so that they will no longer worry about how to use any of it's features. If it is something people want I would be looking for help from the community to learn more(my selfish intent) and represent the information as best as possible so that it is effective in it's approach and purpose. From University I learned that there are different types of learners and am looking to appeal to the visual learners, those that find it difficult to run through a purely text based information. I merely ask for your feedback and opinions! Again to repeat myself I am happy to be proven wrong and linked to an article/website/forum that already does this! Thank you for your time, Phil -
I just received my Helix, I haven't unboxed it yet. Does anyone have recommendations for running acoustic guitar and vocals at the same time? Also, is there a way to separate the 2 signals going out, so I can adjust the volumes individually with my mixer? Thank you,

Here is our tune “Sucker Punchin’ Weasel” by my band Subconscious Pilot. We recorded it with my Line 6 gear and some other gear, of course. I used helix and native for the guitars, except one solo which was an older multi-effects pedal from another company, and my lowdown 175 and native for the bass. Pretty happy with the overall sound and thank you to Line 6 for making my recording session so much more streamlined and fun! Please enjoy! https://subconsciouspilot.com/track/1664956/sucker-punchin-weasel

Considering upgrading to Helix, currently have a Firehawk FX. Can you transfer your Furehawk presets to Helix to save time? Obviously would want to make changes and new settings, but this would make it easy to pick up and play while setting up in between gigs.

New Helix Floor owner here. I LOVE it! I'm experimenting with using just the power amp section of my Mesa F-100 head (it's about 15 years old). The Setup: I can go guitar>helix>mesa head fx loop return. This bypasses ALL mesa controls except fx loop knob (which which ranges from 0 to 100). This setup has me using just the power amp part of the head. The Question: Should I treat the mesa fx loop knob as the "master volume knob" (and send max signal out of helix main out)...or should I set mesa fx loop knob to 100 and treat helix main out as "master volume"? FYI: The mesa fx loop is parallel and I'm sending instrument level signal to it, as it's designed to receive Thanks!

Hi, I just got my Helix Rack yesterday and i bought an used FCB1010 foot controller to go with it, because I needed the Rack version and can't afford the Helix Control right now. I would like to configure it to work with the Helix but having absolutely no experiences with MIDI and amp modelers, I really don't know how to do it and where to start, or even what is possible to do beside switching presets. I pretty much only find informations on how to use the Helix AS a midi controller but that's obviously not what I want to do. So, If someone could help me, and/or point me to good documentation about this, It would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve had the HX Effects for a while and I’ve loved it so much I decided to get the Stomp for the amp modeling. My question is can I use the FX to midi control the Stomp? Specifically I would like to be able to change between snapshots and presets on the stomp and blocks within a preset on the FX. I’m new to midi and I am totally lost. Thanks in advance for the help.
