Hi there, I have been trying to figure how to change setlists/patches/snapshots with midi through ableton live. Having read the manual and had an extensive look here/online, I could gather that: Change a Setlist - CC32 - to whichever is needed Change a Patch - PC - to the relevant one Change a snapshot - CC69 - to the relevant snapshot The ultimate aim is that I run backing tracks through Live (as of up to now I have been running scenes for each song in session view) And can leave the Helix offstage, but having some issues. So I have been creating a midi clip under the audio track needed in arangemenrt view. As the setlist needed was the first one, I had not input anything CC32 wise, I had input the PC as the relevant patch, and then in the envelope, selected 69 and drawn a line between 0 and 3 to trigger the relevant snapshot as the track moves on through. My main issue is that at points I can do this and it seems to work fine, then I run the track again and just either doesnt work, or selects different snapshots. A few things that I had noticed: - For a patch change the PC number had to be 1 higher than the actual number for some reason? - When trying to change to a different setlist, I have had to put the bank as 36, the sub as the correct one (3 ikn this case) and then the PC as the correct one (2 in this case) and it would work. But then again I would try the track agian and just would not work. So am hoping/praying/begging that someone may be able to give me a breakdown on how to do this from scratch, am reletively new to midi so just working things out for myself, but seem to be hitting a brick wall. Ideally, where do I set the CC32 number to select the setlist, then the same with the patch and snapshot, and get this working in a live situation. I'm new here. Decided to take the plunge on helix in order to use it mainly as an adjunct to my tube amps using 4CM. However, I do play some small gigs where it would be nice to just take Helix and go direct. I have just such a gig coming up next weekend. Since I don't really know how to use Helix yet and I have seen enough youtube videos to be slightly insecure in my ability to learn to get "optimal" tones out of it between now and then, I decided to take the easy way out and just download some presets from Michael Britt for use at the gig. My plan is to go direct and use monitors for my personal sound. Using Sony MDR 7506 headphones and a Suhr strat, I was surprised to find the presets very tinny sounding in comparison to what I had been expecting based on message board comments and videos I have seen. Do you think this is a monitoring issue? Had I dialed in my own tones, they would have been much darker/fuller. I was pretty diappointed, although I haven't heard anything through FOH. Maybe they would be fine through that. My other monitoring options are KRK 6 and Yamaha DXR 8, which I haven't tried yet (sleeping children). Thanks in advance for any insights.

So, I´ve seen plenty of posts here of people having a "dead helix" after trying to update it, so I guess it just was my turn. I recently realized that I´ve never updated the firmware in my helix, and was gona do that. In the updating process I suddenly just got an error in the line 6 updater, telling me to restart the helix and try again. But it doesnt seem like anything helps. The helix is just flashing on the led screen between the helix logo, and the helix rack logo, for some reason. I have a Helix floor so thats kind of weird. I did go through the checklist that is provided in the line 6 updater as well. After searching through forums on the internet, i´m apparently not the only one who has had this problem. I tried all the hotkey commands on start up, while holding down buttons, and none of them seem to help either. Only when i try to start it up in safe mode, the screen is not flashing, and there is no logo there. Anyway, would love to get some help.

So with this new update and snapshots I have been messing with midi implementation of the command center to send multiple messages at the same time to my strymon pedals(mobius, timeline, and bigsky) and my effects gizmo, an effects switcher. After messing with it for quite a while I think I have figured how to switch everything. And thought I would share it. But had a question with tap tempo I have it set up as follows: Mobius--Midi Ch2 Timeline--Midi Ch3 Big Sky--Midi Ch4 Effects Gizmo--Midi Ch5 I have an instant command in the command center for each of these they all use the the same basic set up: Command: Bank/Prog Midi Ch: XX (this is which ever midi channel is listed above) Bank CC00: 0 (this can also be 1 or 2 on the strymons for presets 128-299) Bank CC32: off Program:(this changes per snapshot, this message corresponds to which preset the strymon/E.G. has) With this I am able to switch to any preset I have set up on all the devices all at once. I have two quick questions though, I have the mobius and Timeline set up on two different midi channels so that I could be able to use bypass on each one seperately, because of this I have run into two different issues. Firstly the bypass command for the strymons need to use Command: Midi CC Midi Ch: XX CC: 102 Value: 0 I've noticed that changing snapshots only lets you change the Value parameter, and the CC# stays the same no matter what on the MIDI CC commands. Is this a bug or is the helix not capable of doing this? Also the timeline and the mobius both use tap tempo controls but because they are on different midi channels I can currently only assign one or the other to the tap tempo footswitch. Is there a way around this that anyone knows about?

So I just got myself a Helix rack and I downloaded the HX Edit software to start messing without having to put my entire rack on the table. But when I open the HX Edit it only lets me access the Preset and Impulse Response, none of the actual preset stuff as you can see in the picture. Am I missing something? Every time I look up the app online I see people using the app with preset editing section. I've looked all over the Line 6 website and google and I can't find anything on this. Help?

Hi there fellow Helix Users! Although I have had my helix for quite a while I am trying to experiment with as many different sounds as I can & now I am in a new 3 piece band who do not have a regular bass player I thought it would be a great opportunity to explore what is out there for Guitarists who need there guitars to also sound like a bass without using any external pedals like a pog/pitch shifter in the helix FX loop.. so what ideas have you got for me if there are any other threads on this subject I do apologise & if you could please link me to them that would be great! I am looking for either a custom tone to download or a good way to start making the patch myself.. many thanks Frankie x

Hello all! I have been attempting to use my favorite pedal, Mr. Black Supermoon Chrome reverb in the effects loop of my Helix. However, no matter where I place it in the chain on the Helix, it creates a ton of muddy distortion in the chain. I have used it at anywhere from 100% mix to 40% mix, changed the boost of the effects loop from +0.0db to -10.0db and nothing seems to change. What can can I do to make it sound better with the Helix patches? -

Much has been brought out about making the core code for all HX products unified so that future development can be done more efficiently and to the benefit of all product owners releases. My question is: Would we be able to acquire the artist patches made for the HX Stomp for other HX products like Helix and Helix LT. HX Effects would of course have issues due to missing amp cab access. Has anyone tried to move patches between Helix and HX stomp yet?

I am in serious need of some help. I have the Line 6 helix. I was playing it through a Mesa Boogie Mark V 35 amp. I spent a whole weekend trying to get a nice, tight metal tone. The tone sounds good, except when I mute chords...I get this muddy tone that I cannot get rid of. I tried using the effects loop, plugging into the return, and even plugging in the front. Messing around with the EQ. I get very little bass, and when I do increase it, it sounds so muddy. I am trying to get a tone like George Lynch...and playing Mr Scary on the beginning muted notes, and sounds like trash. So after paying 1500 dollars for the Helix, and 1800 dollars for the head, I went and purchased the Line 6 power cab. I still get muddy results. I know it must be something I am doing. I have used a Strat with a Shawbucker, An ESP with EMG 81 and an 85. Can anyone give me advice on how to clean up my tone? I just spent the weekend and looking at lots of YouTube vids and just cannot achieve it. So, I just ordered a Horizon Precision pedal that is supposed to help "tighten" my tone...That was also 230 bucks. Help! I am going broke chasing my tone! Charlie

Hi I have just purchased a new Helix. I have had quite a few L6 products in the past and have run License Manager to "authorise" them. Do I need to do this with the Helix, or is License Manager a thing of the past ? When I ran License Manager, it could not find the Helix which is connected to my computer via USB. Baffled. Thanks.

Just an idea here. I'd really like to see a desktop version of Line 6 Helix that hails back to the good ole red bean pod. Just a simple easy to use plug and play version. Anyone else like this idea or is it lame? Nate Savage Guitareo.com GutiarLessons.com

Hello guys. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to all this having just used amp heads, cabinets and pedals for years. I'm sure this has been answered a million times but I'm struggling with the tone and I'm not sure if I've set my patch up correctly. Using the 4 CM do I need to put in a preamp block or not? At the moment I don't and everything sounds quite off to me. I'm going I to an orange cr120 head and having to go I to the clean channel which only has a treble/ bass control and if I try to go into the dirty channel, who h has bass treble and mids I lose volume unless the gain is cranked all the way up which then affects the sound of any distortion or overdrive pedals I e put in my patch. Sorry if I haven't explained this very well. I'll post a picture of my patch below

So I picked up a HD500 which seems amazing except for the fact that I only have an iPad and it isn't compatible with any software to download patches. Only a few of the factory ones really sound decent to me and I've played with building a few. So not sure if I should have gotten a firehawk instead so I could control it with my iPad? Let's face it once I get my main 8-12 tones I likely won't use a whole lot more. 1- is there a place I can get tones listed vs a patch? So I can just type them in. I'm not a country guy but I wouldn't mind building a paisley like tone. 2- did I mess up and should have gotten the firehawk since I don't own a computer...

Apple's new OS Mojave 10.14, has implemented a new security feature that can block input signals if not allowed access. Once a user has launched a DAW or stand alone plugin for the first time after the Mojave update, they will prompted to "allow mic access." If mic access is denied, user will not be able to receive an input via the specified software. To manually approve your software navigate to: System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Microphone From this menu, user will be granted the ability to approve any software that was previously denied. -
Hey guys! I have had my Helix Rack and Powercab 112 for probably a month now, and I have maybe tried to mess with getting tones for about 6-7 hours total. I am quite stumped and I'm overwhelmed with the options so I was hoping someone could guide me in creating a good tone. I have managed to find a clean tone that I like with a pedal to give me a bit of bite to it. Here is how it goes: Guitar -> Compulsive Drive (Gain 7.5, Tone 5.4, Low Peak, V2, and Level 6.5) -> Noise Gate (Threshold -67dB, Decay 228ms, Level -7.6dB) -> Essex 30 (Drive 5.2, Bass 5.6, Cut 7.1, Treble 6.4, Presence 6.3, Ch Vol 8.2, Master 10, Sag 4.1, Hum, Ripple, Bias, Bias X all at 5) -> 4x12 Greenback 20 (Mic 121 Ribbon, Distance 1, Low and High cut off, Early Reflections 0%, and level 0db) -> Searchlights (Decay 2.5, Predelay 0.0ms, Low Cut off, High Cut 7.8kHz, Mix 43%, Level 0dB, Modulation 2.1, Speed 3.7, Intensity 2.8, Trails off) However, I am trying to achieve a bit of a heavier tone for some of the songs that I like to play from some of my favorite bands. For example, I like bands like State Champs and Knuckle Puck who have a heavier tone than your more familiar pop punk bands like Green Day and Blink-182. I was able to achieve something with the Orange Rockerverb MKIII that I ditched to go modeling, but I have been having a hard time finding something similar in the helix. Everytime I try, I get really overwhelmed as well. Can someone point me in the right direction? Also, is there a way to have two amps in one setting? Like, if I want to use the Essex 30 for my cleans but use a higher gain amp for dirty, can I have them exist in the same setting and toggle between the two easily? If so, how do you do it?

I'm sure there's a reason for it, but it just seems like the effects loop shouldn't take up a block on HX(I'm assuming it does on helix too?) since surely it's just routing that signal through the loop rather than using any processing power to make any effects? Maybe I'm just missing something, but does anyone know why it needs to take up a block and cant just be added in the signal chain as an 'extra' block just to reroute the signal? Edit: I don't think I explained this that well so I'll see if this makes more sense. I'm using the hx where you can have 9 blocks in use for effects or loops. Assuming all blocks are in use with effects, if I want to add in my loop then I need to overwrite an effect I currently have in the chain. My post is querying whether the added effect on the processor in the unit when using the effects loop is really enough to justify having to effectively lose 1 effect to accommodate the loop. Hope that makes more sense

I have a Variax 300 and a Helix. Can anyone tell me if the Helix is capable of saving the guitar and the 5 way toggle setting when I make a patch that I like. I would like to know if there is a way when recalling that patch that it will automatically go to the guitar and the 5 way setting I was at no matter if my selector and 5 way are set to something totally different. I would really appreciate some help on this. Thanks in advance, Rocco

I was in rehearsals the other day with my Helix expecting to go straight into a desk but the sound engineer wasn't around to get things running, however there was a line 6 spider bogner collab amp on the stage so I decided to plug into it. I then realised it had a Preamp out and power amp in section on the back. I think i plugged into the Preamp hoping to bypass the amp completely and just for the helix to be amplified. It actually sounded great without turning my amp sims off. This has confused me though! Did the amp just become a speaker or would it have coloured the sound?

I currently have no experience with setting up fx processors for live/rehearsal use through a guitar cabinet, but I am thinking about obtaining a Helix (maybe Axe Fx if I'm patient enough) to add a digital rack setup on top of my current tube amp/cab/pedals setup. Just to have the best of both worlds. I want to stick to a solid state power amp, but do I go Rocktron Velocity 300 or Matrix GT800FX/GT1000FX? I obviously want to maximize my sound in terms of quality, but also in terms of volume without blowing my speakers or being too quiet. I'm not sure how wattage in a sold state amp affects this, and I'd like to go Matrix, but only if they don't destroy these cabs with one small or bad turn of a knob because of their high output capabilities -- 400w/channel or 800w bridged for example -- into a 280w Mesa 4x12 (live/rehearsal) or 120w Orange 2x12 (home). But I can't afford to have the 300w Rocktron be too quiet for a live or rehearsal situation even if it does suffice for at-home use. Bottom line: Which power amp should I get and how would I avoid damage? I see people using the Matrix's all the time with cab setups but how do they not blow their cabs? Just keep the Matrix turned down low all the time? Is it an impedance thing? Side note: The Orange also only has a 16 ohm option so without rewiring how would that work, if it can at all since I believe these amps do 8 ohms? I know there's other options for speaker setups but I'm asking specifically about guitar cabinets... for now. I play heavy music. Much appreciated.

Hi! I'm strongly considering getting the Helix Floor LT. From my understanding it comes bundled (?) with the Helix edit app, which is basically a software version of the Helix floor unit. But I also see that there's an upcoming Helix Native app that's coming out soon. So what's the difference? Is it that you can only use the Helix Edit app with your Helix floor plugged into the computer, whereas Helix Native is a standalone app I could use with my guitar directly into my Scarlett Solo audio interface and DAW?

Hello, I cannot seem to get the dry tracking option working in ProTools with my Helix. I've tried reading the Helix manual, looking through Helix posts, ProTools posts and any videos I can find but nothing so far. Here is what I have set up: In Helix I have: USB connected to Windows 10 PC in Global Settings I have USB In 1/2 set to Multi In the patch I have output set to Multi In ProTools I have: Playback Engine set to Helix I/O is reset to default with the Helix settings that populate automatically Tried mono track set to input 7 as well as input 8 and get no audio Tried stereo track set to input 7/8 and have no audio In Windows I have: Audio device to recording and playback set to Helix If I select input 1 I can record the processed track fine...no issues, but I cannot get the dry track to record. This is my first time trying this as I have always recorded the XLR out of Helix into my Focusrite interface. I wanted to try recording a dry track so I can use Helix Native to process the sound. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
