I just updated Helix and everything went fine. However, I noticed the new Helix Editor updated with a new shortcut and icon but my old Helix editor shortcut is still on my desktop also. Is there a reason for this? Am I ok to delete the old HD editor? just wondering... thanks

So I've had the Helix for about 6 months now, and I've been recording with the Helix USB port, because my old audio interface wasn't that great. I'm going to be buying a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre X because I'm getting more into my home studio. I was wondering if I can run the Helix through it like this: - Helix XLR L & R outs into channels 3 & 4 (for example) on the interface. - Guitar Thru on Helix Rack into DI box (then into the interface) or High Z input on the interface. - Aux out 3 (for example) on the interface, into fx return 4 on the Helix. I would then use the three tracks to record my stereo amped tone and a DI track, then send the DI back into the Helix, using FX Return 4 at line level, as the input, and then re amp to my liking. My main concern is that I'm not sure if I can send the track back into the Helix the way I described. Any help is much appreciated!

I have been checking Native free trial and noticed that it doesn't work unless I am connected to the internet. Is this normal? Surely if you pay for it you should be able to use it in places that has no internet.

I have a very strange problem that has surfaced after the Helix 2.30 upgrade. And everything worked with the last version of firmware which was version 2.21. I have a JTV69 at firmware revision 2.22, Helix Floor now at 2.30, and the new 2.30 HX Editor. The Helix upgrade to Version 2.30 worked fine without a hitch. But now the 5-position model selector switch no longer changes guitar models on my JTV69. Interestingly - the bank select knob works. But not the 5 position switch. If I am at preset 1-3 on the Variax and change banks - I get preset 2-3 correctly for example. But trying to use the 5-position switch inside a bank does not work. This all happens when using the JTV connected to the Helix with the VDI cable SO ---- to make surety JTV was ok I tested the guitar with my old HD500 - everything works fine. Using the same VDI cable Tested the guitar with my Firehawk floor board. Using the same VDI cable - everything worked fine I put a battery in the guitar and connected with an old tech guitar cable - everything works fine. I have concluded from this that the JTV is fine. Also - if I start Workbench HD or the HX editor or both - I can force model changes on the guitar connected with VDI to the Helix by double clicking on the model in Workbench HD or changing it in the HX editor input block. Not sure what to make of it all. I have filed a support ticket. Has anyone else seen this? Or is it just my rig. Would love to hear from anyone or especially Line 6 - I am baffled and at a total loss as it all worked perfectly with Helix 2.21

Did anyone else come from a Firehawk and use the old Tube Drive stompbox (not the HD one, but the old one) and find that the Valve driver in the Helix (both of which I believe are meant to model a Chandler Tube Driver) doesn't sound anything like it at all? I'm a worship leader for my church and that Tube Drive was the core of the tone that I used for pretty much everything I played. It was extremely responsive to how hard you picked the strings so you could easily go from completely clean, picking it light, to pretty well cooked when you dug into the strings which was amazing for what I used it for and I didn't have to do much pedal dancing because it gave me such a range of tone just from my pick. I recently upgraded to the Helix excited for the options I had to work with in using multiple delays and reverbs and play with the signal chain some more, but I can't seem to build even the basic tone on the Helix that I had from the Firehawk, which is frustrating. I also used one of the line 6 amp models, the Line 6 21st Century Clean after the Tube Drive and it is described by line 6 as this: Line 6 21st Century Clean – To create this Amp Model, we essentially grafted the preamp and tone stack of a JC120 (Roland’s popular “Jazz Chorus†solid state combo) onto the power amp and transformer of a classic Marshall® JTM-45 tube head, thereby giving you the crisp and clear front end typical of a solid state amp, but with a rich, satisfying tube amp-style bite as you turn it up. The Helix doesn't have this as an amp and doesn't seem to be able to let me create it by stacking a preamp onto a poweramp like they did in the Firehawk model. This isn't as necessary to the sound I had as the Tube Drive was, but I'm surprised that in my "upgrade" to the Helix I seem to have lost some of the options that made me love line 6. The closest I've been able to come to a similar sound as far as the Tube Drive model goes is using an Essex A-30 (AC30) with the drive up between 5 and 7, but I can't seem to get as clean as I'd like when I play lightly or as edgy as I'd like when I pick hard like I did on the Firehawk. I also tend to get pretty shrill high end when playing full open chords or triads up a ways on the neck which I never had before with the Firehawk. Any chance the old original line 6 model of the Tube Drive stompbox could be brought back into the Helix and also the option of grafting pre-amp to power amps? Anyone else had similar issues or ideas of what to try? Thanks!

After upgrading to Helix 2.30, Workbench will not recognize my JTV-89.

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking through the forum for awhile but haven’t found the answer to a few questions I have. As the title says, I’m looking to buy the Helix Floor model! I’m a worship leader at my church so that’s where I’m going to be playing mainly. 1st question: reading through all the forums here, I’ve learned that a FRFR speaker is the best way to play with the helix. Is there any way to get a FRFR personal speaker (like a DXR8) and maybe run the Helix XLR out to it, but still have it through the church’s PA system? Maybe use the 1/4†out to the sound board. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m not an expert in this area 2nd question: I know the differences between the Helix and the Helix LT, but are those differences really worth paying the extra $500 for? I have a few other questions I’ll add later, I just can’t think of them at the moment. Thank you ahead of time!

Hi everyone, I recently built a new PC, and I am having issues with playing system audio when using the Helix as my soundcard. I did not have this problem with my old system, so I know that it isn't a hardware issue. When I first open my DAW after I boot up my computer, or watch YouTube videos, the audio will not play until I either disconnect and reconnect the USB cable multiple times or disable/enable in the playback devices window. It will then work for awhile, but if I leave the computer idle for any more than 5 minutes the problem returns. I have played with the sample rate, reinstalled the drivers, and checked the usb cable, and nothing seems to be helping. I have no idea what else to try, so if anyone has experienced similar issues or knows what the problem might be, I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance, Tyler.

I'm still researching the Helix, but I have a question. I have a Boss RC-300 looper, (3 loops, lots of functionality). On my current pedalboard, I set it up 2 ways. In both cases my chain is: guitar, compressor, Pitchfork, distortion, volume pedal, looper, delays, reverbs. 1) Can I use my looper in this same location with the Helix? 2) I also sometimes place the looper dead last, thus recording the signal with all effects. Can I do that? If I can do both, do I need to swap any cables, or is the looper just in one of the 4 effects lines? Thanks, really appreciate any help, Bill

My guitar teacher has an old Polytone Minibrute IV that just makes every guitar you plug into it sing. Some of my favorite players have played through Polytone amps to great effect (Jim Hall, Joe Pass, etc). I'm trying to recreate that sound with my helix, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas/tips about achieving that tone. Here's a reference tone I found on youtube:

Hi there. I have been having usb drop out issues with my helix LT since I purchased it Oct 31. For the first few days it was unusable because it failed during a fw update (2.12 > 2.21). I had tried the usual leads, no hubs, front and back sockets and other computers but had little luck. I finally got it to upload the 2.21 fw by sheer persistence. Since then I have had limited success connecting it to my Windows 10 PC. I even reformatted and reinstalled windows :) after that I have been able to transfer small batches (6 patches or IR's) to the unit from my pc. Any more and I run the risk of drop out, resulting with shutting down the LT and exiting the editor and restarting. But to bring this post up to present - I managed to upgrade it successfully to 2.30 but the USB issues remain and that back up file is just too big and drops out every time. Also the pinned post at the top of this thread ( For those of you who might need a little help with the 2.30 update: ) shows a USB transfer speed MUCH faster than mine. I have the latest drivers and no hardware conflicts. What gives? I have an open ticket but the only apparent option is return for servicing. The Helix LT itself is brilliant! Sounds amazing and even though I have had these issues the unit is so much fun I have stuck with it - but I would love to be able to use it as intended. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi can someone help me? I'm using the line 6 helix rack with the midi moose controller. I've managed to create the snapshots I want but I can't seem to assign them to the midi moose controller all it continues to do is change presets instead of snapshots which I don't like because of the delay between presets any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks! Mike

I have a Variax and am looking to get the Helix rack. I will be using a wireless system rather than a Variax cable. I know it's possible to use the Aux input for guitar, but in the cheat sheet it says to plug a guitar or bass with active pickups in this input. It looks like only the guitar input at the front has a Hi Z impedance i.e is the best input for guitar. I'm thinking of getting a wireless receiver to sit on top of the Helix rack, so would rather have a short patch lead going into the back of the Helix. Would the aux input or one of the return jacks work as well as the guitar input? It's kind of similar to my last question but just working out how I'm going to the routing. Would have been really nice to have had another hi-z guitar input on the back.

Hello everyone, I just had my brand new Helix pedalboard and I'd like to plug it in my Mesa Boogie Mark V. What's the best method: connecting only through the poweramps/ using the Boogie preamp too? In fact, i'm looking to stop using my mesa footswitch. indeed, i found the helix direct sound a bit cold and i'm telling me passing through my tube amp should warm up this! Thank you all for your answers in advance Ek https://benjaminsavariau.wixsite.com/officiel

Hi everyone, I bought a Helix a few weeks ago and I've got to say I'm absolutely blown away with it! So far I've mostly been using it with my reference monitors and sometimes into an amp until I get sorted with a portable FRFR system. I'd like to start using headphones for late night practice, and so I'm looking at some nice over-ear headphones like the Sennheiser HD650. It seems most headphones in this category need a headphone amplifier depending on the source. So I'm wondering, can the Helix drive high-impedance headphones? Are other helix users using one? Please, let me know what you do headphone users!

Hi, this is my first posting on this forum. Got a Helix LT a month ago and loving it, been playing with the looper and i think the reverse and 1/2 time is great. But I notice two unused footswitch on the top when entering the looper, so I was just wondering, maybe you guys can add another function to the switch like fade out?

I had a flight case pedalboard custom-made, it seemed like a great idea to go big and have ample space to expand and experiment with pedals. In reality a 40x24 box that weighs 36lb turned out to be a cumbersome thing to take on a DIY tour, and expensive to fly with. I'm thinking of ditching it and discarding a bunch of pedals to remake the pedalboard inside a bass hard case. It needs to be molded ABS like the Gator, Peavey or Ibanez cases. I'd like to have your opinions on: size: the average rectangle bass hard case measures 71" linear inches, but 62 is the limit of most airlines. Do bass players who check-in their basses tend to pay an oversize fee? damage: how resistant is the Helix to the shock, handling and throwing that checked-in cases are subjected to? theft: how good an idea is to check-in valuable pedals, or is it better to remove the Helix and take into the plane cabin in a backpack? There are two limitations to check-in luggage: dimensional limit, usually 62" linear inches (Length + Width + Depth) and weight limit which is generally 50 pounds (source). Most airlines abide by these. Exceed either and they charge an average of $100 for oversize and $100 for overweight fees. In my case, both, 75lb loaded with pedals and 72" linear inches. I picked red polyvinyl after I read reports that black luggage makes 95% of stolen luggage (source). As far as I know, injected polymer or molded ABS are the only lighter and sturdy alternative to wood and metal hardware. I haven't had any luck finding examples like that online. The Gator ABS bass case is 71.3â€/12.6lbs and the guitar is 64â€/9lbs. The guitar case is no problem but I do need the extra inches afforded by the bass case. Any thoughts?

I am new to this forum, but I have had my Helix LT for a few months now. I play 2-3 shows a week, and I have been using my Orange Head and a Carvin 2x12 cabinet for my main setup. I am trying to consolidate down a bit, and I was looking in the Radial JDX Direct Drive, so I can get a similar sound and then just going direct to the main mixer for FOH. Does anyone have any experience with this or a similar setup? My current setup is as follows: Helix 1/4 Out > Orange Head FX Return Helix Guitar IN > Guitar I then use a MIC for the 2x12 cab.

I'm assuming these 4 fx loops are not true bypass, correct? I run two overdrives for crunch and lead tones into a separate preamp, and I've been running them before the Helix with great results. The only downside is that I can't program the overdrives that way. So, I tried tossing the ODs in a loop at the start of the signal chain and the preamp in a loop for the following block. The switching works exactly how I want, but I'm getting a not-so-tolerable white hiss when playing the clean setting :( I've tried messing with noise gates, in different parts of the path even, but still no luck on getting rid of that bleed through. If somebody has a fix for this, I will give them numerous e-high fives.

Hey guys, I just purchased my helix and have been incredibly impressed with its capabilities so far. I will say, I haven't been able to dial in any tones that feel right with all the amp/cab simulations, but I'm totally happy with using this for all its other capabilities. However... I am pretty disappointed with the delay switching and the weird warpy-ness that happens when switching delay times within a preset using the snapshots. The only work around I've found so far is to switch to a snapshot where the delay is off, then to the one with the desired delay. I know you're bound to encounter some weirdness when you start messing with the delay time when the effect is engaged, but I was previously using a Boss DD-20 to toggle between one delay preset and the next with different speeds/feedbacks, and it was totally seamless. So easy. I'm not liking the idea of having to go back to the core setting on the helix in between delays. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now, I just stuck my DD-20 in one of the helix's effects loop, and it sounds great. The only downside to that is I'm running the delay completely wet, and tweaking the mix/level parameters on the loop doesn't sound nearly as good adjusting the pedal's level knob. So, I will not have full programmability over over these parameters and will have to go back to manually adjusting and using tap tempo like the pre-Helix days, unless I can get this resolved :(
