  1. Hey guys. I recently sold a great part of my big old rack system, including my Velocity 120 PowerAmp. Now I have the 2x12 sitting there, doing nothing, just annoying more and more my wife. Anyway, I would like to ask you all, for some suggestion on what amp to use with Helix. I don't intend to keep the 2x12. So, I will need something with speaker(s). I do use the amp simulation from helix, which is a big part of my sound. So, I would need the "cleanest sound amp" as possible. I don't care if it is SS or tube, since it gives me a very clean and flat sound (FRFR would be great, but it is not essential). I play only at home, so don't need much more than 20 - 30 watts. I was thinking about the ZT Lunchbox. Really small it has some good reviews. *I saw somewhere, I think in FB page, that someone was using with Acpustic amps. is it good to use it with? Will it be damaged using to much distortion and heavy sounds? (stupid question, I know). Anyway, any suggestion is very appreciated! Cheers, Leo
  2. The Helix manual contains some information about receiving MIDI plus the list of CCs and whatever. What it does not cover is how to program the Helix to set up MIDI for controlling other devices. There are all sorts of features and controls that are not even mentioned in the manual. People who are into MIDI in a very big way are used to building elaborate and complex systems that, once the fiddly work is done, are easy to use and make a huge impression on the audience. We are eager to incorporate the Helix in to our setups - taking it from being a cool and fancy FX device to the level of being a key part of the MIDI system. I saw a YouTube video about how use the Helix to switch channels in a lunchbox amp, but I haven't found much more. If there is someone out there (preferably a techie from Line 6) who could put together a couple of pages on this, I am certain that most of us could make good use of it and would be most appreciative.
  3. Hi everyone, Just ordered a Helix Rack from Sweetwater that will be here in a few days, and I can't wait to fire that thing up! I've read that the stock IRs are not so great and people have suggested added their own custom IRs they've bought from third-parties. I've heard a demo of some ML Sound Labs IRs that Fractal Audio sells through their store. If I wanted to buy an IR pack from ML Sound Labs (through Fractal Audio), would I be able to use them with my Helix? I have 0 experience with IRs, but I've read that they're mostly like .wav files but couldn't confirm from their site. Thanks
  4. 1. Launch Garage Band, and create an audio track. 2. Go to View -> Open Smart Control Click on the "i" icon on the smart control top bar, then drag the scroll bar to find Audio FX slots. Click on the Audio FX Slot and find Helix Native from Audio Units -> Line 6 -> Helix Native
  5. Hey guys I'm trying to plug my helix control into my helix rack unit but it doesn't seem to want to communicate. Every time I hook up the Control the helix tells me to update the control inorder for it to work; as soon as I press CANCEL or OK my entire unit Freezes. Any thoughts on how I can update my Control Pedal?
  6. I'm pretty sure there's currently not a way to do this, but is anyone aware of a way to trigger specific notes in the 3 Note Generator via MIDI note on/off messages from an external controller such as a sequencer or keyboard controller? I know Helix can transmit note on messages via footswitch assignments, but can it receive and interpret/apply them? If not, is that a feature that could be implemented in a future firmware release?
  7. After playing a friends Marshall DSL40 the other day I got very nostalgic for the tube sound and air pushing through a Celestion guitar speaker. Contemplating getting one of these and using my Helix for the effects pedals via 4CM. Quick Q's for the pros here: 1) Any of you have any experience with this amp positive or negative? 2) Any specific experience using a Helix with it? Any conflicts with the Marshall switch that goes from clean to gain channel? I'm a hobbyist basement player who wants more sonic punch than what I'm getting running my Helix through two Alto 112's via XLR cables. This Marshall seems to be in my budget so grateful for feedback pro or con.
  8. I am using the native propeller together with the mainstage and I am tending the problem that the delay pedals do not synchronize with the gloval time of the mainstage, in the window of the helix native part superio right it is seen that it is synchronized with the tempo gloval but it does not work With that synchronization with the delay pedals. Someone with the same problem ??
  9. Hello everyone, I am completely new to the Helix world but I have an important issue. Can somebody tell me if and if so how you can use a Helix to switch between amplifier channels on a PRS Archon 100 Watt amplifier? I would love to combine the channels with my presets with the touch of 1 button. Now I have to press both the external channel switcher and the Helix which causes timing problems because certain music requires instant switching. With kind regards, Ezra
  10. Hi there, I intend to buy a Helix Rack which I would like to use as my sole audio interface at home. To Helix I will connect two Yamaha HS7s and a PA speaker - Alto TS 215W. Here's what I would like to know: 1. Would it be possible to force Helix Rack to have system audio playback (Youtube, guitar pro, etc.) come only through my monitors (no Helix-processed intrument sound coming through them) and Helix-processed bass guitar sound coming from the Alto when practicing playing bass (alternatively together with audio playback)? 2. Would I need to have an additional USB interface (e.g. Focusrite) for this purpose? 3. Would Helix LT suffice to do what Helix Rack can?
  11. Hello,I am testing helix native demo and Although I navigated to my ownIR folder and the IR appears to be loaded in the list ,i dont seem to comprehend how to load my IR in the IR block. AnY help friends??
  12. Hello i've downloaded and installed helix native BUT the factory preset list is empty!! Anywhere to DL it from or any ideas??
  13. I really wanted to love the helix. I'm not new to the world of Line 6. I had an original Variax, Kidney bean, and my fair share of spider amps. As much fun as the effects and experiencing the progress of modeling was, I always found myself gravitating back to my traditional tube amps. As time passed though, I transitioned into the world of acoustics. As such, over the years I've sold off all of my traditional amps. I found myself recording primarily acoustic renditions of songs, and using DAW plugins (S-Gear 2, GTR5, etc) when recording electrics was necessary. However, I've had my eye on a new age amp modeler since the original Axe Fx came out, but never pulled the trigger on one. Years have gone by since then, and I've watched countless Axe Fx 2 and KPA videos, coming ever so close to pulling the trigger on one. Then the Helix came out. Granted, I just found out about it a couple of weeks ago, and since then have crammed more demo videos into my head than I probably should. But it was exciting. I decided the time had come to jump back into the modeling world, so I pulled the trigger on a Helix Rack, spent the money to next day it, and waiting anxiously for it to arrive. The reason why I'm giving you this backstory, is because I want you to understand that I've been in the music world for quite a while, and know my way around customizing tones. However, to save my life, I can't squeeze a good lead tone out of this box. Let me give you a run down on my setup: I'm using my PRS P22 going into the Helix, helix XLR out into my Apogee Quartet, Apogee Quartet into my computer via USB and into Logix Pro X, then output from my Quartet into my Yamaha HS8s with matching HS8 sub. It's worth noting that I've also tried going directly into my DAW via Helix USB, and it doesn't really make a difference. As far as my Helix settings go, Guitar pad is off, impedance set to auto, and no global eq. I've tried just about all of the different amps with cabs, even through in a few OH impulses, and the best way I can describe the lead sounds are digital. Especially in the high register, they have what I can only describe as the classic line 6 digital sizzle/fizz. Very thin. For comparison, I threw on a standard cali rectifier, no adjustments and it sounded weak. But when I listen to the following, I'm blown away: I know he's most likely rocking some active pickups, but it still shouldn't make THAT big of a difference. I almost wonder if I have a defective unit. If it's worth anything, when I turn the power switch on it takes about 3-4 seconds until the screen lights up. Is that normal? I would love some suggestions. I really want to make this box work, but so far I'm better off sticking with S-Gear 2 for the times I need to record.
  14. Greetings fellow Line6 Users! Hoping someone can tell me what the parameters are on the 3 OSC Synth block? I'll start by saying I dont own a Helix, but have been closely following features and functionality since release. I'm a bassist and predominantly play electronic genres for a living - currently using the POD HD500x for all my synth-bass needs (almost exclusively for this purpose, occasionally guitar wah) and I used the M9 and M13 before it - all with great sucess! So my bread and butter is the filter section (Dual Synth-O-Matic signals as my main synth generator followed by a host of filtering - Voice Box, Throbber, Slow Filter, Q Filter etc etc). I'm just wondering what the Helix can offer along these lines, as I can only guess from scouring the manual......I have searched long and hard to find decent audio / video examples of sounds or even the edit screen with little success. Would also like to know which waveforms are available with this effect block if possible! Looking to pull the trigger on a Helix asap, as the routing options would connect all the dots as far as my setup is concerned - but this is the deciding factor for me as it's basically just use it as a synthesiser. I'll finish by saying I live in Dubai so road testing is unfortunately out of the question for me. Any help would be super appreciated!!! Thanks guys, Steve
  15. I am loving my Helix rack but I would love to use my Helix rack with my Kemper to get the amp tones not in the Helix. Basically I want the best of both worlds and all they can both offer. But I dont like the Kemper effects. Can anyone explain how to intergrate the two so I can change the Kemper amp head profiles via midi? I am using the non powered Kemper and Helix rack into powered studio monitors. Thank you.
  16. Hi ..Just thought i would share... This is a recording of a live Jam session over the internet from Canada, No California and Denver. Completely live using Jamkazam.com software. (in realtime) Delay was about 28 ms from each location. 512 kbps constant bit rate, stereo. The additional pads are coming from my HD500 connected with the 1/4 cable from the Variax. Its pretty awesome what we can do now and not even be in the same location https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/supermassivemomentum-live-8-5-2017/ Helix using firmware 2.21, HD500 and Variax
  17. Hey guys, my issue is this: I need to get my Helix to tell my Voodoo Lab control switcher to switch channels on my mesa boogie Roadster. I'm currently using the Helix with the four cable method. What i'd like to be able to do is change channels per snapshot within a preset. For example, snapshot 1 is clean on channel 1, snapshot 2 is grit on channel 2, etc. What I'm doing is going into the command center and using the instant messages to try to accomplish this. If I select the 1st lightning bolt and set the CC# to 80 it should turn on channel 1 via the control switcher. I've had limited success in doing this. Next, I go into snapshot 2 and then click command center and select the next lightning bolt and set a new CC# for that and save. I do the same thing for the next two snapshots (I've got the top switches set to stompbox mode). What I cannot understand is why the Helix doesn't allow you to select the first lightning bolt only for snapshot 1, the second lightning bolt only for snapshot 2, etc., just as you would do for effects and other parameters. It appears as though the Helix is sending all 4 messages at once no matter what snapshot I'm in. The result is that I cannot get it to work with the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher and it's absolutely essential that I figure out how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm beyond frustrated.
  18. With the stereo outputs can you discreetly route the guitar signal to one output, and the looper to the other output? Thanks!
  19. Can you assign more than one parameter control to the footswitches in command center? I just picked up an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head. It has midi control to change the channels on the amp via Midi PC, and turn the FX Loop on/off via Midi CC's. I'd like to be able to have the same footswitch control the amp channel and the FX loop state. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hi Guys,Anyone used the new Electric Impulses from Sigma3 Audio yet? Wondered what your thoughts are.
  21. Got my Helix today from Reverb.com (bought it used). Love it, but realized that I have a really squeaky and stiff pedal. With my purchase, I do not have the original receipt. Frank R. via email said if there is any warranty left they would transfer it to me - still waiting to hear back on that if there is any left. I am wondering what is the easiest way to solve the squeak without really tearing the unit apart. I live quite far from any authorized service centers. I am wondering too, if my unit has the black washers, is it even worth just trying to fix myself or should they be replaced? If anyone has an earlier unit with the black washers and was able to remedy the issue without taking it apart I would love to get some step by step instructions. I read some past posts but it didn't seem clear how to approach the pedal with lubricant (white lithium grease, triflow, etc) while its still attached, although loosened.
  22. Recorded a bit and interested on opinions of these tones, all done with helix. Both of these are using the matchstick jump amp, both are using built-in cabs (blue+v30). this is tele + matchstick https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/summa-vacay this is strat + matchstick (lead tone kicks in about 40 seconds) https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/sunset welcome any and all comments / suggestions on the tones please
  23. What is the proper way for me to create a patch OR patches that will allow me to loop acoustic guitar and violin live from the Helix? I want to be able to record acoustic guitar via the looper and then immediately add violin. Ideally this would be done within a single patch where I have access to fx pedals for both. Currently I have my violin sending into "Aux1" and my acoustic guitar sending into "Guitar In." Both sound excellent. How do I preserve 2 separate signal paths (the first signal path being acoustic guitar - sending through Guitar 1; and the second path being violin - sending through Aux 1) yet have them sum to the looper? Do I need to create 2 separate patches (violin) and (AG) and switch between the two? Or can I create 1 patch using separate routing (paths 1A and paths 2A) to and somehow sum them to the looper? I was trying the latter idea of 1 patch with two separate paths (1A for guitar and 2A for violin) but guitar ends up being pushed through path 2a, thus picking up all the violin fx. Attached is my current patch. Can anyone help?
  24. Hi folks. I am a HELIX newb, so please go gently! Can anyone advise me how best to achieve the following live rig/setup using Helix as my guitar amp/effects rack and as my audio interface between my DAW and PA/backline? 1. I need to use my DAW to play recorded synths/keys (I'll be using wavs from DAW not midi). 2. I will also need a click track on a separate audio output which will go through a mini mixer which the drummer can control (drummer will then be able to hear click and monitor mix in headphones). 3. I'll be using Helix for guitar with output to an FRFR speaker which I was thinking I'd use in front of me (wedge monitor). 4. Everything, including rest of band, goes to FoH PA and stage monitors. My questions: A) Can I use Helix as the audio interface with one stereo output for synths/keys and another to route click through to drummer's mixer (both from DAW)? If so, how? B) Would you bother having a separate output for the guitar to its own speaker or would you just have a full-monitor mix of the whole band? (I'm nervous of the latter having only ever played with my guitar amp behind me. I'd also like to be able to control guitar feedback independently of monitor mix). Advice very much welcomed. Any diagrams of how you'd set this up would also be super helpful. Best wishes Simon
  25. Hi guys! Got a Helix for about 1,5 year now. Thought that I can share some recording where I used it. 1 guitar - Helix (with IRs) 2 guitar - Line6 POD HD500 + Torpedo CAB (for the IRs) The song is from album "Bullets" made by my band - Spiral. Whole album was recorded that way. We actually used real amp once in this album in one short guitar phrase. At the time of the recording I had it for about month, so did not fiddle a lot around :) https://www.facebook.com/Spiralmusicband/videos/10155172946121839/ Since then - second guitarist also obtained Helix and we used it live on two tours, it never failed us :) If the sound is somehow appealing to you - I can share the presets that we use on this song. Have a nice day!
