  1. I tried my best to get a Line 6 Helix - Metal video up as soon as possible so people can know what to expect and how it performs in a studio setting. Here's what I came up with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVRS-Z9Eb34 I used the stock noise gate, screamer 808 and ANGL Meteor with a downloaded Impulse Response (Engl Special Edition) from here (http://www.freemusiciansresource.com/VST-detail/huge-collection-of-metal-cabinet-impulses/) (follow the relink in the article comments). I used an LTD Vampire Biotech M guitar with an EMG 81 bridge pickup Settings are: Noise Gate: Threshold -30db, Decay 188ms, Level 0.0db Screamer 808: Gain 2.6, Tone 0.0, Level 6.7 Amp: Drive 9.1, Bass 4.8, Mid 7.1, Treble 5.2. 2. Hello, when connecting with USB, I'm stuck with 48kHz (see screen copy, sorry for the french, but you can see : no choice but 48000). To use 44.1 I need to disconnect USB and use S/PDIF to my MOTU interface (828 mkII). This used to work fine with my HD 500, by setting the POD as the sync master. It doesn't work with HELIX. Depending on the sync setup (master or not), I get ticks or sound drops. I can't find a way to record in 44.1 in digital. Do you experience the same problems ? I've found a post on the forum where D-I say the USB connexion allows any rate/bit configuration, including 44.1... but I must have missed something, or he made a mistake. Thanks a lot for your feedback and/or help.
  3. My Helix is not recognized by my computer most of the time. I've installed the driver, and after doing a factory reset, turning it on and off, I can eventually get Line 6 Updated to see the Helix. However, when I try to install updates I'm getting errors (I have a help desk ticket in, too...but my experience with that has not been great in the past). So, now I have no presets and can't install the updates to the firmware, and can't connect at all to the Helix edit app. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Joe
  4. Has anyone had an issue with their spdif volume being way too low? I can't hear 1/4 of the volume from the Helix through my monitors as I do any other track, and that's with the volume blasted all the way up. I plug in the old HD500, and it's plenty loud. Plug in Helix, and It's horribly quiet. Anyone have any ideas? I also have a help desk ticket open because my computer won't recognize Helix as being connected when I try to use the Helix edit app or the Line 6 updater. Thanks for any help! Joe
  5. How do I make a foot switch swap cab for IR? basically I want the same foot switch to turn off one and on the other so the Cab and the cab IR are not "on" at the same time and at least one of them is always on. Also I want to use 2 IR's in the same preset but it wont let me add another one to the chain example: I want to use the Taylor Guitar IR in the beginning of the chain and use the Scum Back Cab IR after the Amp... I might need to start another topic for this part...
  6. Am I missing something or is there no way to use tap tempo with the Optical Trem? Thanks! Dave
  7. Want to connect my electric guitar with passive pickups to "guitar" input and connect acoustic with L. R. Baggs Lyric pickup to another input so that I can use Helix as A/B depending on which preset I choose. Problem is I can't seem to get enough input signal to Helix from my acoustic. Pickup, battery and cables are all good. I've tried all inputs. Do I need an external preamp or DI to do this? Helix is out to L2t via Link 6.

    Helix Dimensions

    Helix 22.05 x 11.85 x 3.6 inches; 14.6 lbs. Helix Rack 19 x 5.25 x 9.5 inches; 9.3 lbs. Helix Control 17.2 x 9.4 x 2.5 inches; 7.2 lbs.
  9. My back ordered Helix that I ordered back in June finally shipped. I noticed also MF has these in stock and ready to go if anyone is interested - too bad that 15% off sale just ended yesterday...
  10. First of all, back up your bundles and setlists via the Helix application on your computer. My Helix arrived Thursday October 8, 2015. I'm using two Mission Line 6 controller pedals. I've had a couple of bugs: 1. The unit would go silent but continue to navigate fine. Switching the unit off/on would correct. 2. The unit wouldn't boot up after the splash screen/firmware version. I had to factory reset to get the unit working. I'm guessing these issues are temporary and will be corrected in a firmware update. Looper: I'm not sure why the looper is only available as a block per preset, instead of a global looper like the M9. It seems odd that I cannot build loops from different presets, which is the best part about looping. I love the sounds! Did I mention I love the sounds? I love the sounds. I'm not much of a guitarist, but the Helix sounds fantastic and sounds liked a microphoned cabinet to me. I'll be using the Helix for Chapman Stick, Bass, Acoustic and Electric Guitars. It's very easy to navigate. Drag and drop presets would be a handy feature of the Helix application for the computer. I'm looking forward to many happy years with my Helix!
  11. We're sure you'll have a great experience with your Helix. As with anything, be sure to regularly back up your presets, and in the event anything unexpected happens while using your Helix, please perform one or more of the steps below while powering on your unit. If your Helix ends up in a bad state due to a failed firmware update try rebooting the Helix/Helix Rack while entering update mode by holding down footswitches 6+12 (Helix/LT) or encoders 1+6 (Rack). You should see "Entered Update Mode" on the screen, once this is done properly. Then you can re-connect to Line 6 Updater. You may need to manually resume the update using Line 6 Updater (NOT HX Edit). Make sure all other recording software is closed on your system. Make sure to try this out on different USB ports, or multiple computers in case of poor USB connections, or if the the Helix doesn't connect at all with update mode, or its regular boot-up. Further info on the update process can be found here: Helix Floorboard/LT 1. Holding footswitch 5+6 on boot restores Global parameters 2. Holding footswitch 7+8 on boot restores presets and setlists ”THIS WILL OVERWRITE ALL USER PRESETS AND SETLISTS 3. Holding footswitch 8+9 on boot restores presets, setlists, and IRs ”THIS WILL OVERWRITE ALL USER PRESETS AND SETLISTS 4. Holding footswitch 9+10 on boot restores presets, setlists, globals and IRs (restores factory bundle) "THIS WILL OVERWRITE ALL USER PRESETS AND SETLISTS 5. Holding footswitch 10+11 on boot will rebuild your presets in the latest loaded firmware 6. Helix can now restore by clearing only the current preset instead of wiping out all presets. While holding footswitches 11 + 12 7. Helix can now, after firmware 1.06.5, enter update mode manually by holding footswitches 6 + 12 Helix Rack Since the rack doesn't have footswitches, you'll instead hold down a combination of the 6 encoders that are below the main LCD screen as you're booting up. ENC2 & ENC3 - reset globals ENC3 & ENC4 - restore stock presets and setlists ENC4 & ENC5 - restore stock presets, setlists, and IRs ENC5 & ENC6 - reset globals and restore presets, setlists, and IRs (entire factory restore) ENC1 & ENC3 - rebuild all presets ENC1 & ENC5 - clear all presets, setlists, and IRs ENC1 & ENC6 - will enter Update Mode (This feature is only available on firmware v1.06.5 and higher) HX Effects 1. Holding FS3 + MODE - Will clear all Presets and IRs 2. Holding FS4+FS5 - Will reset Global Settings 3. Holding FS5+FS6 - Will reset Presets only 4. Holding FS6+TAP - Will Perform factory restore (reset, Globals, IRs, and Presets) 5. Holding the right arrow ">" Will put the unit in a fail safe update mode. Use this when the HX Effects is in a un recoverable state HX Stomp Hold these button combinations while powering up the HX Stomp: 1. FS1, 2 & 3: clears all presets/IRs 2. FS1+2: resets presets and IRs 3. FS 2+3: factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) 4. Page >: update mode. This update mode is helpful if the update is interrupted, and the HX Stomp will not boot properly. You will see a blank screen (no visual feedback on the display). 5. Upper & Lower Knobs: Rebuild presets. Wait for "Will Rebuild Presets..." to appear and let go. HX Stomp XL Hold these button combinations while powering up the HX Stomp XL: 1. FS ^, C & D: clears all presets/IRs 2. FS ^+C: resets presets and IRs 3. FS C+D: factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) 4. Make sure to always update to the latest firmware using Line 6 Updater. http://line6.com/software/
  12. Can anyone tell me how to calibrate an external expression pedal? I don't see this in the manual anywhere; from a post on TGP I was under the impression this is possible. Thanks
  13. Guys/Gals -- Someone else mentioned this in an earlier post. I've got what I "think" should be an easy problem to resolve, but I can't seem to find out how to make it happen. OK, stick with my feeble brain here and help me if you will -- I'm on Preset 13A -"Come As You Are". In the Global Settings I have it set so my Presets are on the Bottom/Lower row and my Effects show up on Top Row, with a Stomp Box feel. However, when you go to the preset and select it, 4 Presets are on the Bottom Row (good, that's what I wanted) but the only way I can see the Effects is to press the Mode Switch -- BUT -- that clears the Bottom Row of Presets and then shows the activated Effects and the Top Row is blank. I've noticed there are several presets where the effects are on the Bottom Row when you toggle the Mode/Edit switch. Is there a way to always keep Effects on Top Row, or maybe it's supposed to be this way? Also, for a picture reference, I'm trying to keep the setup like it shows on the color Cheat Sheet: Effects - Top Row, Presets-- Bottom Row. I'm sure it has something to do with Global Settings and the Mode Switch. But I can't make it happen on THIS preset 13A. I appreciate you kind folks offering the solution since I apparently can't see it. One Final Note...I repeat that I have the Global Setting for Presets set for the Bottom Row AND that works on some presets as it should, but on some I have this issue. I'm loving the HELIX BTW, just learning my way around. :) Thanks!! geetar42
  14. Trying to get the unit ready for a live show so I have been transposing my HD500x patches over (incredibly easy for the most part and a great way to learn the unit), but I am looking for recommendations for using the JTV Acoustic with. Any of the pre amps or factory patches that anyone recommends? Also any EQ starting points would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance! .

    L6 link and the Helix

How does L6 LINK work in Helix? It's drastically different from POD HD. If you have one StageSource speaker or DT25/50 amp, Helix will send a mono signal to it. If you have two StageSource speakers or DT25/50 amps, Helix will send the first one in the chain the left signal and the second one the right signal. We have a template that has L6 LINK set up and ready to go, and you can switch topologies with the footswitches.

    The Helix Looper

The Looper How do I find the Looper? Most factory presets already have a Looper block, ready to go. If your preset doesn't, or you cleared all the blocks, Looper blocks can be selected from the very bottom of the Model List, below the Send/Return category. How much looping time do I get? For mono looping, Helix gives you up to 120 seconds 1/2-speed or 60 seconds full speed. There’s also a new stereo looper, which gives you 60 seconds 1/2-speed or 30 seconds full speed. Why does the Looper stop when I switch presets? Helix's looper can maintain playback and recording across presets as long as the target preset: Has the same type of looper block (mono or stereo) Has the looper block on the same path (1 or 2) Has the looper block assigned to a footswitch Otherwise, loop recording/playback will stop. Basic Looper Usage Helix can add one mono or stereo Looper block per preset. The Looper can exist anywhere on either Path 1 or Path 2. See Looper Footswitch Mode for information on using the Looper. Using a Dual signal path: Keep in mind that the looper is only available for one signal path at a time. So if you're using a second signal path, you will noticed a significant drop in volume, since the looper is only on one path. Looper Settings Knob Parameter Description 1 Playback: Adjusts looper playback level. You may find it useful to turn this down a bit so your live guitar can be slightly louder. 2 Overdub:Sets the level of your loop while overdubbing. For example, if your Overdub Level is set to 90%, each time your loop repeats, its volume will be reduced by 10%, sounding quieter and quieter with each overdub pass. 3 Low Cut and Low Cut: Filters a portion of the loop's bass and/or treble frequencies, which can improve the mix with your live guitar. For more information check out the manual here.

    HELIX Support FAQ

Will there be an iOS or Android editor? Probably not, Helix's presets are extremely large, and syncing 1024 tones would take forever. As Helix is more at home in larger studios and on larger tours, it makes sense to support Mac/PC editing. Can I reamp? Yes, You can reamp two instruments simultaneously. You can even choose which two physical inputs will be sent dry to your DAW. Does Helix pass SysEx data via MIDI Thru? No. We actively filter out SysEx data through Helix. Does Helix have delay or reverb spillover? Delays, Reverbs and FX Loops have bypass trails, where they'll continue to ring out after being bypassed (if desired). But this currently no delay or reverb spillover when changing presets. Why isn't there a metal protection bar for the knobs? Helix's top panel is carved from a solid block of aluminum (like a Macbook Pro you can stomp on) and its side panels and treadle are solid aluminum as well. There's no metal protection bar because our 210 pound lead tester kicked the crap out of it and the metal knobs worked flawlessly. How do I get Helix's footswitch mapping to be like HD500X's? Stay in Preset footswitch mode. Then, the Global Settings > Footswitches menu, set: *Knob 2 (Preset mode Switches) to "Lower Row" *Knob 4 (Up/Down Switches) to "Banks" How do I customize a footswitch's label and LED color? There are two ways. *From the Footswitch Assign screen, as long as the current block is assigned to a footswitch, press Knob 6 (Customize) *From the Command Center screen, select Footswitch 1-6, 7-11, or Exp Toe and press Knob 6 (Customize) The Helix Modeling Engine Is this the same old HD engine? No, Helix utilizes an all new from the ground up advanced dual DSP processor architecture with HX models. Are ALL the models HX? Not quite. The reverbs and 8 our of 10 wahs are HD, but they've been enhanced and tweaked for inclusion in HX. The popular Line 6 custom amps Elektrik, Doom, and Epic are technically HD, but have been rebuilt inside the HX engine and many advantages of HX. All other amps, cabs, and effects have been modeled in HX from the ground up. I noticed some model names are the same as in the HD models packs. Are you sure they aren't HD? The all new models in the HD model packs came from the original Helix modeling sessions (except for the Pete Anderson Custom which is based on POD 2.0!), but they've been stripped down somewhat to run on the HD architecture. Where are the deep cab parameters? Instead of reso, thump, etc., Helix has mic distance, Low Cut, and High Cut. Model list/DSP Allocation Will the I see the DSP LIMIT REACHED message like in HD500X? Why are some items in the model list grayed out? Even though Helix has 2.3 times the DSP power of HD500X, and we have more efficient code optimization, HX models are notably more sophisticated than HD. In practice, you should get about 50% more blocks than HD500X and 60% more than HD500. However, the message popping up and telling you you've run out of DSP is gone. Instead, Helix intelligently grays out and skips over any models that can't be accommodated. How can I move a block from Path 1 to 2 (or vice versa) Currently, Helix cannot move blocks between paths. You can, however, copy and paste blocks from one path to the other (even in a different preset) How do I create parallel paths? 1. Highlight a block you want to move to a parallel path a press ACTION to "pick it up" 2. Move the joystick down to move the block to the parallel path. Troubleshooting I hear some distortion/clipping from my headphone out. Why? Helix's headphone out is designed to drive even high impedance studio headphones. If you use low impedance headphones, you may hear a bit of distortion when cranked all thew way. This is normal. Why is the AUX IN volume different from the guitar in? Helix's AUX IN has a 10k Ohm impedance, and is meant to accommodate guitars or basses with louder active pickups or line-level mono synths. My S/PDIF output is low The S/PDIF output is a copy of the internal levels. The master will not affect the output volume. If you are experiencing a quiet output with SPDF, you can add volume somewhere in the patch. Add channel volume on the amp model, or even output gain on a some dynamics. Remember that a lot of patches have lower db due to compression and EQ. Mystery Train has a lot of low end cut out of the patch that would lower the total db, but still keep the perceived volume around the same as something with higher db and more low end. Helix Rack and Control What's the difference between Helix and Helix Rack? Along with the Helix Control Remote, Helix Rack's workflow and feature set is virtually identical to that of Helix. Plus you get duplicate expression pedal jacks, a 1/4" analog bypass (buffered) output, AES/EBU in and Wordclock in with terminator switch. Presets can be freely shared across both units with no file conversion required. Is Helix Control powered from Helix Rack? Why is there a DC IN jack? Yes, Helix Control is powered from Helix Rack. if you leave its power switch on, turning Helix Rack on and off will also affect Helix Control. The DC IN is for very long cable lengths (TBD, but probably over 100 feet) and for possible future use. Helix Control does not ship with a DC-3G, as it's not necessary. Why does Helix control have a USB connector? For potential future use. Helix's Control firmware is updatable, but only while connected to the Helix Rack. which would be connected via USB to a Mac or PC. Do not connect Helix Control's local USB jack to a Mac/Pc, at last for now. Why is Helix Rack 3 spaces? Couldn't you have crammed it into 2 spaces? No, but we tried. The color screen is far too large and there are too many ins and outs to fit into 2RU. What kind of expression pedal do I use with my Helix? You can use either the Line 6 EX-1 or the Mission Engineering EP1-L6. Helix LT What am I not getting with the Helix LT? First, remember that the Helix modeling engine is exactly the same as the rack and main floor unit. All units in the Helix family will sound the same, and you will be able to transfer patches between them all. The biggest thing missing is the scribble strips and a must leaner I/O. Click here to check out all its specs. Is the on pedal screen the same? Yup, completely identical. Weights and Measurements Rack: 19 x 5.05 x 8.80 inches, 11.9 lbs Control: 17.09 x 9.46 x 2.58 inches, 7.3 lbs Floor: 22.05 x 11.85 x 3.58 inches, 14.7 lbs LT: 20.87 x 11.93 x 3.66 inches, 12.5 lbs
  18. I originally created this for use with the "EPSi: Convolution Powered Reverb in a Small Stomp Box" with:Version C for EPSi, a firmware version for Cabinet Speaker and Room simulation.http://www.logidy.com/ that I used with my Eleven Rack that had no way to load ir cabs. see my tutorial here: http://www.elevenrackpresets.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=42292&Searchpage=1&Main=5446&Words=tutorial&Search=true#Post42292 But now I won't need it any more because of the Helix. If you don't know why you would need a multi cab ir I'll try to give you an example: did you ever think of running two different amps or speaker cabinets with one in the right channel and the other in the left? that is the beauty of "multi cab ir's" How to make multi Cab IR's from existing IR's for use with the Helix: with PT11: 1.Open a blank session and click on "setup" then "session" change the bit rate to 24 and make sure sample rate is at 96 khz 2.click "File" then "Import" then "Audio" navigate to the IR's in your comp and click"Add Files" then "Done" then "create new tracks from start position" then click "Track" then "New" select "Stereo" and "Master Fader" then click "Create" 3.you have an option to either change the output to "Main Out R" and "Main Out L" in "mix window" on each track or pan each track to your liking so some of each bleed over to the other. 4.Add any plugins to the master track you want as in screenshot. 5.Click "File" then "Bounce To" then "Disk" select as in screenshot 6.Put in folder (that you'll remember). and your done. 7. load it to a "ir block in your Helix and test it out. Maybe the Admin will see it important enough to make it a "sticky". Have fun with it and share some of your work!!!
  19. Just a thought while watching a Two Notes Torpedo Live demo. Would be brilliant seeing comparison between the helix amp model and the equivalent real amp through a Two Notes Torpedo. I am seeing a lot more folks using the torpedo to track guitar in studios with huge praise. You are effectively digitally modelling one of the core aspects of playing a real amp and cab mic'd in a room. In this scenario/comparison I think the Helix should hold up extremely well if the IR's are good? Any one out there own a torpedo live and is taking delivery of a helix soon? :)
  20. So we are starting to receive our units and I was wondering what everyone was going to use as far as a carrying case? Anyone know of any cases specifically for the helix?
  21. I have a Variax and am looking to get the Helix rack. I will be using a wireless system rather than a Variax cable. I know it's possible to use the Aux input for guitar, but in the cheat sheet it says to plug a guitar or bass with active pickups in this input. It looks like only the guitar input at the front has a Hi Z impedance i.e is the best input for guitar. I'm thinking of getting a wireless receiver to sit on top of the Helix rack, so would rather have a short patch lead going into the back of the Helix. Would the aux input or one of the return jacks work as well as the guitar input? It's kind of similar to my last question but just working out how I'm going to the routing. Would have been really nice to have had another hi-z guitar input on the back.
  22. I'm thinking of getting a Helix Rack when it comes out, and would like to use it with a Shure GLXD4 wireless receiver, placed on top of the Helix rack, as I already have the Shure transmitter. Would I be able to use the aux in on the back of the Helix rack as an instrument input, or would I have to have a short guitar cable coming out of the receiver to the front of the Helix. Being able to plug in behind the Helix would be a neater option. Any info would be gratefully received.
  23. there have been tons of questions over the years about where to put your pedals and how to get the best tone. Everyone always references gain staging as the most important piece of the equation. Well the video below is probably one of the best I have ever seen explaining how gain staging works, what to look for, where to place pedals, etc... a bit long but definitely worth the watch!
  24. So the helix has two exp jacks on the back. On my MFC-101 (Axefx) I have an Erine Ball vp Jr. That I modified to have a Mission latching switch so I can engage/disengage my wah but I need two expression jacks to utilize the Axefx wah function: one switch for engage and one switch for wah sweep. Am I going to need both of Helix exp jacks just for a wah? I'm going to try to use the onboard exp first but I am imagining not liking it because it's on the right side of the board and it seems kinda ...petite... It would be very cool to have a left footed version of this beast! I know it's maybe wired but I simply prefer my left foot for vol.wah.exp.whammy.... Thanks!
