  1. Can you assign more than one parameter control to the footswitches in command center? I just picked up an EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head. It has midi control to change the channels on the amp via Midi PC, and turn the FX Loop on/off via Midi CC's. I'd like to be able to have the same footswitch control the amp channel and the FX loop state. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi Guys,Anyone used the new Electric Impulses from Sigma3 Audio yet? Wondered what your thoughts are.
  3. Got my Helix today from Reverb.com (bought it used). Love it, but realized that I have a really squeaky and stiff pedal. With my purchase, I do not have the original receipt. Frank R. via email said if there is any warranty left they would transfer it to me - still waiting to hear back on that if there is any left. I am wondering what is the easiest way to solve the squeak without really tearing the unit apart. I live quite far from any authorized service centers. I am wondering too, if my unit has the black washers, is it even worth just trying to fix myself or should they be replaced? If anyone has an earlier unit with the black washers and was able to remedy the issue without taking it apart I would love to get some step by step instructions. I read some past posts but it didn't seem clear how to approach the pedal with lubricant (white lithium grease, triflow, etc) while its still attached, although loosened.
  4. Recorded a bit and interested on opinions of these tones, all done with helix. Both of these are using the matchstick jump amp, both are using built-in cabs (blue+v30). this is tele + matchstick https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/summa-vacay this is strat + matchstick (lead tone kicks in about 40 seconds) https://soundcloud.com/ryantolson/sunset welcome any and all comments / suggestions on the tones please
  5. What is the proper way for me to create a patch OR patches that will allow me to loop acoustic guitar and violin live from the Helix? I want to be able to record acoustic guitar via the looper and then immediately add violin. Ideally this would be done within a single patch where I have access to fx pedals for both. Currently I have my violin sending into "Aux1" and my acoustic guitar sending into "Guitar In." Both sound excellent. How do I preserve 2 separate signal paths (the first signal path being acoustic guitar - sending through Guitar 1; and the second path being violin - sending through Aux 1) yet have them sum to the looper? Do I need to create 2 separate patches (violin) and (AG) and switch between the two? Or can I create 1 patch using separate routing (paths 1A and paths 2A) to and somehow sum them to the looper? I was trying the latter idea of 1 patch with two separate paths (1A for guitar and 2A for violin) but guitar ends up being pushed through path 2a, thus picking up all the violin fx. Attached is my current patch. Can anyone help?
  6. Hi folks. I am a HELIX newb, so please go gently! Can anyone advise me how best to achieve the following live rig/setup using Helix as my guitar amp/effects rack and as my audio interface between my DAW and PA/backline? 1. I need to use my DAW to play recorded synths/keys (I'll be using wavs from DAW not midi). 2. I will also need a click track on a separate audio output which will go through a mini mixer which the drummer can control (drummer will then be able to hear click and monitor mix in headphones). 3. I'll be using Helix for guitar with output to an FRFR speaker which I was thinking I'd use in front of me (wedge monitor). 4. Everything, including rest of band, goes to FoH PA and stage monitors. My questions: A) Can I use Helix as the audio interface with one stereo output for synths/keys and another to route click through to drummer's mixer (both from DAW)? If so, how? B) Would you bother having a separate output for the guitar to its own speaker or would you just have a full-monitor mix of the whole band? (I'm nervous of the latter having only ever played with my guitar amp behind me. I'd also like to be able to control guitar feedback independently of monitor mix). Advice very much welcomed. Any diagrams of how you'd set this up would also be super helpful. Best wishes Simon
  7. Hi guys! Got a Helix for about 1,5 year now. Thought that I can share some recording where I used it. 1 guitar - Helix (with IRs) 2 guitar - Line6 POD HD500 + Torpedo CAB (for the IRs) The song is from album "Bullets" made by my band - Spiral. Whole album was recorded that way. We actually used real amp once in this album in one short guitar phrase. At the time of the recording I had it for about month, so did not fiddle a lot around :) https://www.facebook.com/Spiralmusicband/videos/10155172946121839/ Since then - second guitarist also obtained Helix and we used it live on two tours, it never failed us :) If the sound is somehow appealing to you - I can share the presets that we use on this song. Have a nice day!
  8. Hi. A friend of mine plans on using the Helix as a Bass Preamp for Live usage. He does not want to go In-Ears or some silent-stage-stuff, rather he likes to get his massive analog bass-tone on stage, using the Helix and some kind of speaker-system. The tone should be amplified over his Gallien-Krueger Bassamp, using the Effects-Return to feed the solid state output stage. Which FRFR speaker-system would a Bass-Player prefer for the look & feel and the most versatile bass-sound? Is it best to go 2x15 passive PA-System Speaker or will a 1x15 do the job for bass? Or shall he still use his two 4x10 Trace-Elliot cabs driven from out the GK-Amp? A active FRFR would be no alternative, because he likes to have a amp on the cab for optical reasons ;)
  9. Hello everybody, i'm a bass player. I felt in love with helix but...it's so expensive, and I don't know if it worths the price for a bassa player. My need is to use some effects (comp. ocatvers, synths, wah) and sometimes amp models becaus I don't wanto to carrie all my stack. Now I have a zoom b3, a mark bass super synth and an ebs compressor, but I don't think b3 is good for amp simulation. My question is.....shall I consider POD HD 500x for bass or Helix is however better and worths the price? Shall I look for a used POD x3? I don't know what to do. It seems helix is designed expecially for guitar players (I know the firmware update introduced lots of amps for bass), and so the Pod HD (of course I would buy tha bass expansion pack), but pod hd costs about the half of Helix HD. Can you share your experiences with me? Can you give me some good advice please?
  10. Dear Helix User Friends, I have recently purchased a Helix LT and have already successfully managed to upgrade the firmware to 2.21, however I am having issues installing the latest version of the Helix Editor software. I have downloaded the latest software (Helix 2.21) at the Line 6 website and installed on my computer (Windows 7), however when attempting to open the editor I receive an error message saying “Helix has stopped working). I have uninstalled and re-installed the software various times, I have re-booted the computer between installations, etc and nothing seems to work… Has anyone else faced the same problems? Any ideas on how to get over this issues and get the software up and running? Thank you and I look forward to some help!
  11. Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a minute and share some fun I had with the Helix last week. I work at a church and typically use Helix as my all in one electric guitar rig. Recently, however, I've been using Helix as an effect board running into an amp. Last week I also needed an acoustic guitar for one of the songs so I set that up through Helix as well. Electric guitar through the guitar input, using the 1/4in out and the Acoustic through the Aux input and XLR Out. Worked great! It was great having access to all of the reverbs and delays with the acoustic guitar and it all worked seamlessly together. For many of you, this might not be much of a revelation but I had a lot of fun working it out and using it!
  12. Hello Everybody!! This is my first post!! Years ago I had a bass pod xt live....then I sold it and bought a zoom b3 because i did not use any simulation of amps and cabs anymore. Now...I'd like to return to Pod, and here is my question. Shall I buy a POD x3 Live...ora a Helix Xt???? I know that POD x3 is fair better than the POD XT, and that it is used also with bass...! I'd like Helix becuase it's a more recent product and...is very sexy :) but....it seems to me that is more guitar oriented than the X3. Can someone give me a good advice? Shall I spend money for an HELIX ora can i go straight to an X3... Another question.....using this two systems...can i sell my mark bass supersynth? Do the octaver and synths works well? The synths are highly configurable? Yhank you for your answers!!
  13. Hi, One question, In my computer with helix selected as my midi/audio interface, what if I connect a USB controller like a novation launch pad, can I control parameter on helix? I have done this via regular midi straight from the controller to helix and works perfect. All new controllers that comes with lots of knobs (which are cooler) are USB only, they are not including the regular MIDI, those with regular USB/MIDI ports are expensive compared to all new lines of USB controllers. Can I control my helix with a USB controller connect through my computer with helix as my interface? Unfortunately my USB controller is damaged, so I cannot run the test, and I need to get a new controller with more knobs... Hope anyone can help, Cheers!
  14. What are your favorite effects on the Helix when running no amp or speaker sim? Just running into an external amp. Looking to see how everyone is doing that.

  16. I updated my Helix to version 2.21. Everything seems to be fine, except that I play with my Roland GR-55 guitar synthesiser connected to my Helix. Whenever I change my patch on the Helix, it would immediately change the patch on the GR-55, as I have configured the Helix to do. This, however, no longer seems to work since I upgraded to version 2.21. Am I missing something? Does anyone have any ideas?
  17. Hi, Unboxed my helix LT today and started making presets. I'm having problems assigning the tap tempo switch. If I tap the tempo the light starts blinking in time but the delay tempo does not change. I can only change the tempo manually in the delay block in the preset. (preset wich i made) Couldn't find anything in the manual about this. There are factory presets where this does work, only how?? Anyone? Thanks in advance, grtz antonio
  18. Line 6, I wanted to leave a comment here, and a place for anyone else that wants to comment on the UI of the Helix product. I will preface this by saying I have the Helix Rack + Controller + Mission Helix exp pedal. I haven't used the Controller, and exp much, as I am a studio musician, and just haven't got around to using it much. (Ironically I got that more for tweaking patches when I am at the Mic stand when I am recording vocals, and not sitting beside my Helix) Now that out of the way... The Interface is one of the first things that interested me in this product when I first heard about it about 14-15 months, or so, ago. Obviously after I heard that the level of tone they were going for was to actually rival Fractal, and Kemper. I wanted a nice rack unit that I could adjust with my hands while I was recording/playing/tracking guitar. I wanted it this way to save screen real estate. I have two screens, (top/bottom) but I want all the space for plugins, and DAW/playlist/piano roll. The Helix seemed like almost a perfect fit, and fit my audio interface routing needs as well. On to actually using the UI for a bit now that I got a good hang of it. I have found that I am rarely opening my editor on the pc. Even though my Helix is connected to it 24/7. I open the editor to check things like what the bpm is set too, and things like library/IR management. The rest I do all on the UI of the unit itself. I even save/rename patches on the unit. Its so easy, and intuitive. The screen is bright, a good size, and it is quite clear. The color representation of each category is smartly chosen imo. I can dial in great patches with complex routing in a much quicker time than I ever could on any other unit. I get a better sound quicker than with any unit. I have dialed in patches in 15-30 minutes with my Helix that sounded miles above anything I could with the Pod Farm 2.0 with my Pod X3, and Eleven Rack in the entire time I had them. (much less earlier modelers) On top of all that, I will get faster at dialing in better tones over time with this unit. Line 6 you have really raised the bar when it comes to UI on guitar modelers. I can tell a lot of thought went into that aspect. Everything feels sturdy too, not like its about to fall off. Though I have read of some users when they had technical problems with the UI, but Line 6 seems to give great care to its customer service of the Helix line. Which in turn makes me feel somewhat "safer" with my decision to go Helix. I would like to hear from others how the UI has helped them in there scenarios. I don't even use snapshots, but I hear setting them up is a breeze as well. I dare say its even fun to program patches on the Helix compared to a lot of previous modelers.
  19. I have my Helix plugged in to a Fender Deluxe. Guitar - Guitar In - Send 1 - Amp Input - Power Amp Out - Return 1 - Mono 1/4" - Power Amp In But the volume controls on my amp don't seem to work anymore. Could someone explain this?
  20. I am trying to control the amp channel via MIDI (in addition to the '4 cable method'): eg. Clean patches should use the clean amp channel. When you use any patch or foot switch on the HD500, a MIDI signal is sent that you cannot edit of disable (I think). I believe this is so that any other connected Line 6 gear knows what the HD500 is doing. Unfortunately some of these signals (eg from the Loop footswitch) change settings on my amp (a Blug amp1). Does the Helix and/or LT send these sorts of MIDI signals for other Line 6 gear? Can they be controlled?
  21. Hey folks, I'm looking for some insight from you as to the best way to use my Helix with this particular amp. I'm not very familiar with using effects loops and/or power amp. Just haven't taken the time to learn. The only real option I have is the external speaker input. Is there a way of incorporating the Helix into this, besides just going straight into the front of the amp? Current signal chain: Guitar - Helix Guitar In - Helix 1/4" left/mono output - Amp Thanks in advance.
  22. How do I make a foot switch swap cab for IR? basically I want the same foot switch to turn off one and on the other so the Cab and the cab IR are not "on" at the same time and at least one of them is always on. Also I want to use 2 IR's in the same preset but it wont let me add another one to the chain example: I want to use the Taylor Guitar IR in the beginning of the chain and use the Scum Back Cab IR after the Amp... I might need to start another topic for this part...
  23. So most of of the discussions on here are asking about how to get this sound or that sound, or just how to get a good sound period. Most of the responses are usually just "eq it", or "use an IR." I don't really always buy those responses, as I feel like I've been able to get some pretty great sounds for what I want out of the helix just right out of the box without too much hassle. I think a large part of why some people have issues is that they don't understand all of the mic choices, and what/how to use to them put them in a better zone for the tone they want right off the bat. So how about a discussion for what people use when they want a certain sound. Ex) I like the ribbon 121 for modern and fat sounding. (rarely ever use an sm57 on the helix since I feel it's too thin, and tiny in comparison even though it's been a standard for ages). For bass I love the 4038 and 112. The 4038 for something super thick (but i put it 4-6" away depending on what bass I'm playing with to keep it from being too boomy), and the 112 since it's still thick, but has a little more shape to the sound. (for a non scientific explanation) For those that are curious, there are lots of comparison vids on youtube as well that are super informative. Or you can just google "best mics for guitar" or "best mic's for bass guitar" and it's pretty good at giving you the most popular ones for a particular instrument. Anyway, what are your people's go to mics when you're going for a specific sound, and why?
  24. Hi All Losing my mind here..Helix and Workbench HD, Variax JTV 69 cant get them talking... -2.21 Helix installed. Line 6 Monkey will see JTV-69 (1.74) and flashed it with 2.22 Flash memory. I run Workbench HD 2.13 and I get an error, 'The connected Variax is not compatible with Workbench HD. You must use a James Tylers Variax version 2.0 or higher.' If I disabled MIDI in Helix (Global-MIDI-MIDI to USB on) I only get a blank scan dialog and no Variax is seen. I went nuts trying to get this working and even installed the old Variax Workbench connected VDI to my HD 500 and it was seen as expected. I am using the VDI barel plug ethernet cable. I even tried a normal Ethernet cable and that connected to Helix just fine (I guess its the correct pin out) but in no case have i been able to get Variax and Helix + Workbench working together. Workbench HD just inst seeing Variax through Helix. What the heck am I doing wrong?? Is the Variax JTV-69 (blue) not really supported with Workbench HD? Anyone out there who knows whats going on please let me know. Windows 7.
  25. Hey, everybody! My name is Robert Rosenbrook and I wanted to share a solo EP that I recorded using the Helix for all the guitars. I used only stock amps and effects for my patches which I'd be happy to share if there is enough interest! Let me know what you all think! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhJ4ODReEz8 - Here's a video of one of the songs https://robertrosenbrook.bandcamp.com/ - link to rest of the EP
