  1. Bear with me here...there is a question further down I promise. For years I have been running a Bogner Ecstasy for live performance. In the last couple of years I have beefed up the setup with a head and rack combo case, ground control pro, voodoo labs control switcher, and a voodoo labs GCX audio switcher. I have a few stomp boxes on a rack shelf and everything is controlled via the ground controller to work the control switcher for amp channel selecting and GCX (Turning loops on and off). This setup sounds great, so there isn't anything broken here. I just purchased the Helix rack for studio mainly, to possibly replace my eleven rack I have had since its initial release. Now, for my question: To have some versatility, I was wondering the best way to run the helix into the ecstasy (which still feels wrong to think about doing it, although I am still waiting to get the helix shipped this week so I have never played one). Other option is to purchase a separate rack power amp and leave the Bogner head and effects rack at home. For now, what would be the best way to run this through the ecstasy head? I have tried to run the 11R in the past into the head and I could never get a good sound...but I am sure it was the way I was doing it. Thanks, G

    Midi Notes

I noticed something odd as was setting up some Ableton triggers this weekend. In order to trigger note D1, I had to set the Helix MIDI note to D2. Is this intentional? It just seemed unusual to myself.
  3. Hi, I'm interested in the G10 and own a Helix. I'm wondering about the cumulative latency of using both in my signal chain. That is, based on testing, is it perceptable at all in typical playing conditions? It's ok if you don't have a direct answer, but on the other hand if you can say with certainty I wouldn't be able to perceive it, that would be great information to consider as I look at buying one.
  4. I am wondering if you can run the helix four cable method into a kemper and also change kemper patches through midi? To be able to program different presets into the helix that change helix effects and kemper presets at the same time?????
  5. IR life is getting better. I acquired a Line 6 Spider Valve MKII HD100 6L6 tube head this weekend. It was a pawn shop special that needed some love, clean up, and biasing, but it is up and running perfectly now! I have to say this must be one of the most neutral tube amps I have ever heard. It's just a step more coloration than solid state and not nearly as much coloration as my Mesa amps. It has even less coloration than my Randall RM100 head (Egnater designed for different preamp modules), which I thought was really neutral. It must be the Bogner amp design to work well with Line 6 modelers...and it sounds FANTASTIC with Helix. Helix amp-only models>Helix 1/4" out >1/4" SV power amp in>Recto 212 is now my main rig, even over all of my other Mesa amps. I dropped about $40 on on 7 packs of 3 Sigma IR's today. I really liked the online sound clips and comparisons and their site info. But when I got them into Helix, I was still pretty uninspired from the tones, similar vibes to other IR's like the Ownhammer and Redwire demos, as well as Helix cabs. I actually was able to get sounds I liked better with the Helix cabs. I think they would probably be really good if i were to run my physical amps into them. Regardless, I went into the sound cave with new inspiration, determined to make IR's that I liked better with Helix amps. Anyway...blah, blah, blah, gimme the IR's fool......okay!!! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AAALqjD9kW55RArTaY6MtTUEa/v3/L6SVMII%20Recto212?dl=0 Two mics this time: Shure SM57 and Audix D1. The Audix D1 has stays stronger in the low to low-mid frequency range than the SM57. This results in a little more low end, and boosted midrange. The SM57 has a bit of scoop to it. The Audix D1 does have more highs to it as well. Actually, i think the Audix D1 makes a good guitar cab mic. You can Google the frequency response curves of each and see for yourself. The off-axis (oa) 2 positions of each seem to be closest to amp/cab in room sound. The L6SV_R212_oa2D57 will probably be my new front of house PA XLR path block now, and I will send Helix amp-only to the power amp of my SV amp/Recto 212. These IR's made with the L6 SVMKII HD100 power section are very neutral, especially for a tube amp. These IR's work really well with all Helix amp models with little coloration. I think they really let the nuances and fine controls of the Helix amp models shine through and give more control of sound back to Helix. As I have done with previous v3 IRs, mics were positioned and oriented for the best Helix amp model into power amp/cab tones. Not just typical generic positions. Next week we'll get back to colored IR's. My new Mesa Triple Recto Multiwatt will be up to bat. Have a great weekend!!! 6. Did I miss something in 1.11 or is the tuner improved? I noticed cents, offsets, a tuner, a few other items. Or was I just blind to these features before? :o Dennis
  7. Hello all I play my Helix on a Variax guitar, the JTV89F. I play classic rock covers and have the Helix set up with 2, 3 or 4 presets per song. I'm currently using the built in expression pedal as an output volume control and everything works fine. What I would like to do is free up the expression for other things (I know that the expression pedal is really 2 pedals in one but it is problematic when using the toe switch as it can affect the volume before and after the change). I have experimented with using the volume control on the Variax to control the volume block output but can't find a way to do that in a global way like you can with the built in expression pedal. I currently have the Variax tone and volume controls saved in each preset as I try to keep on stage adjustments to a minimum. The question is, is there a way to control the output volume of the Helix with the Variax volume knob that carries over from patch to patch?
  8. This post mainly comes from a question/idea I had... It seems like the profiling has already been done for the mics and the power amps from the cabs and the amps sections in the helix. If all the profiling has been done already I think it would be really cool to have the power amp sections of the amps and the microphones available as a effects blocks. If they have not already been profiled then I'm sure there are cooler things to be looking into, but if all the data has already been collected it would be super awesome to get these in. I may be wrong but I would imagine that all of the amps power amp sections are already profiled and would just be [amp]-[preamp] of existing blocks. I think It would be really interesting to be able to mix and match different power and pre amps to get different sounds. Also I have found the helix to be really great with recording guitar, bass, and vocals I do not know if the microphones on the cabs were profiled by themselves or if they were profiled as a cab/mic combo. But if the mics were individually profiled It would be really cool to be able to have these available as separate blocks. This could be really awesome for vocals or when using the helix as an interface for recording a live amp.
  9. Hello guys. I was playing always with backing tracks and didnot realize that until I played only using helix. I will give you my signal path: 1A: MultiGuitarInput ---> Drive---> Essex30--->EQ---->Loop1(Korg A2)--->Reverb------------>Output 1B: ----->MultDly4----->EQ--->Reverb (Octo)-->Output *After the EQ block (after the amp) the signal is split to path 1B, into MultiDly. The Patch 1B is all assigned to one footswitch labeled "shimmer". I start playing with this path 1B turned off. When I turn it on, works great, really smooth shimmer - really beautiful. But the problem is when I turn this path off. When I press the footswitch to turn off the path 1B, I get a really loud peak of sound. Yesterday I tried to use a volume pedal block to play with 100% and 0%, thinking that maybe I got that loud peak because of the blocks being disabled and the signal going through directly to the output. Anyway, tested but still getting this loud peak sound when turning the path off. Does anyone have an idea of what it can be? I will post a video showing this problem. Any help/tip is welcome! Tks! Cheers! Leo
  10. Is it possible to set the Guitar Thru Out in the back of the Helix Rack to send the tone from the Variax? I've got an external tuner that I like and can't figure out how send the Variax tone to it when I use the digital cable. It works like normal when I use a ¼ inch cable but then I don't get the automatic variax switching. How can I send the tone? Also, all of my effects loops are full...
  11. Guys, maybe someone here can help me with this 'problem'. is there a way to configure a switch to send 2 different PC messages to MIDI devices? For example, I use Eventide H9 and Korg A2 in Helix' loops, and for a certain preset I need to recall preset number 75 from Korg A2 and 11 from Eventide. I just could set one individual switch for each device. Is there a way to put all together? thanks in advance! Leo
  12. I know the question of which FRFR speaker comes up a lot. I did a gig Friday with my own equipment and used my Alto TS110A as the main. It was a small outdoor event and it had plenty of output. The other videos I've shared have always been using the house PA at other places, so I wanted to post to give an idea of what the Alto sounds like. To me it's a great bang for the buck. This was recorded from a camera mic, but a decent one, so it gives a good feel for how the speaker comes across to the audience or in the room. https://youtu.be/XYnnVSr5xmQ
  13. Check out this video where I show how to setup the Helix to control Loopy HD on your iPad. This is an amazing looper and the Helix finally makes me excited to get into a looper again.
  14. Ok so its my first post on the forums, and i just had one question about the helix. i am considering buying it (trading up from a Dual Rectifier Solo Head and 4x12) and i just wanted to know what should i play it through as far as speakers go? would a 2x12 cab with no head work? PA system? i really have no idea... thanks in advance for any help or advice.
  15. I'm just wondering whats going on with the next run of Helix backpacks. I pre ordered one and I was told by my sweet water rep when I ordered it that it should be coming any day? But I've seen on other websites that they expecting them in june!!!
  16. I've ordered my Helix, which should be arriving tomorrow. (so excited!!) I saw on the website that Helix Edit 1.10 public beta is out. I looked for a file named "Helix Edit" but could not find it anywhere on the site. I see a "Helix Application 1.11.1" and a "Helix Application 1.10" Is that the correct file? Is the "Helix Application" the same as "Helix Edit?" if not, where can I find it? The posts say its in http://line6.com/software but I do not see anything called Helix Edit.
  17. Did another open mic night with Helix and Variax and it was a lot of fun. I'm soooo in love with this setup :) Keep in mind that this is the camera mic that's picking up the audio, the guy filming was sitting where he was getting some monitor bleed (which was overly bright), and it was the house PA with no time to adjust for EQ. I say all that because sometimes I've had folks (on other forums of course :D) pick apart the tone on some of these videos. Hope you enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Fd0qeMpSPo
  18. Can i export a bundle, setlist, or individual tones from Pod HD Pro Edit and import it into the Helix Editor? I realize that the sounds will probably change somewhat. I've done quite a bit of custom midi settings and would like to keep my presets if possible.
  19. I posted a new IR per a member request for a good clean Strat sound. Immediately I think Fender Twin. I setup a Helix preset and loaded the stock US Double Norm (Fender Twin) amp block and separate US Double C12N cab block. I then copied the preset, deleted the cab, and changed the output to USB 5/6, opened AT4 and setup its Fender Twin Model, turned off the AT4 amp, then tweaked the speakers and mics to what I liked. Processed the AT4 cab model per my post http://line6.com/support/topic/19604-irs-from-amplitube-4-cab-room/ Copied the Helix preset again and put in the new AT4 IR block, then I ABC'd the presets. Again, the resulting IR directly in Helix is slightly different than Helix Amp into AT4 cab plug in. I actually think it sounds more open than the AT4 plug in and less nasally than the Helix cab (sorry to use that term again L6, i'll try to find a better one). I'm also noticing that 1024 sample settings on the IR's are a bit more mid-rangy than the 2048 sample setting. Setting them to 2048 samples is almost like throwing a deep switch on an amp. Fender Twin Cab IR 4/6/2016 Cab: Fender Twin Speaker: American Alnico x2 Left Mic: Dynamic 57 Right Mic: Bottle 563 Room Mics: Condenser 87 Helix presets: Fender Twin IR 1024.hlx & Fender Twin IR 1024.hlx with IR in Impulse slot 27 https://www.dropbox.com/sh/009bkqzooza1aop/AADER2D9wah_GtlL5ygW7-fCa/IR/Fender%20Twin%20AmAln%20SM57%20Bottle?dl=0 I posted a pic of the AT4 screenshot of the cab setup this time and a readme. I also posted the Helix stock preset I compared it to.
  20. hi guys..love the my Helix...really do....still i would love to also use my eventide H9 max and control the tempo. using the Helix.. in the past i would use the Hd500x and m13 (cause of dsp) and controlled the m13 through midi (tap tempo, scenes)...i am havin a hard time...trying to set up the Helix to sent tap tempo to the eventide...i have looked at the manual...but i still can't get it to work...any help please.. thank you all
  21. So, I thought a quick thank you to Line 6 engineers and staff may very well be in order. I have been reading about how fast everyone wants upgrades and such. I noticed the Editor came out and then about (less than) 60 days later there was an improvement. Mind you it is still beta, but I have yet to have any issues and I have noticed some subtleties (of course be careful of ear fatigue - it can be murder after an hour to think I "mistakenly had too much this or that" when my ear actually needed a break). Yes I want the M13 effects, and I want the Mark iic+, and the other stuff I know Line 6 is aware I voted on to date. But I am assuming they do not have the Microsoft employee base! So due to having to completely start from scratch for everything I have voted on from a coding perspective AND how much I am enjoying using the unit in live performances - WOW! Thank you Line 6. I have also been fiddling more and more only to find I can now remove blocks I thought I needed after much investigation into the parameters of each block, how to combine blocks [yes I even use three on a single button], and the great "learn" feature. And the various contributors to this forum as well as the (and/or their) youtube channels - thank you every so much as well!!! So, I am using it as my only pedal with a wireless unit (yes it is Line 6). So far, I haven't missed anything I cannot emulate or wait for. So ... yea ... Thank you Line 6. Just sayin' Dennis
  22. Odd Behavior -- with amp + cabs and cabs that load up with the 421 Dynamic Mic model. These are: 2x12 Double C12N 2x12 Mail C12Q 2x12 Silver Bell 4x12 WhoWatt 4x12 Green Back 20 It shows the 421 Dynamic Mic as the one that loads with these, but when switched away auditioning mic models, then come back to the 421 Dynamic it sounds very different - more treble like the other Dynamic models in that first group. If you save the preset and reload it, it sounds like it did when first loaded - identical to the 121 Ribbon MIc model. I don't particularly like the 421 Dynamic sound, and usually switch to something else, but if you would like to use it with those models, it will always load up showing the 421, but sounding like the 121 Ribbon. As a test I loaded a cab not in the above list that 421 Dynamic is not normally loaded with, then changed it to the 421 Dynamic and saved. When I reloaded the patch, the normal sound of the 421 Dynamic was there, not the 121 Ribbon, so it appears to only affect the cabs in the above list or the amp+cabs that use those in the list above. I don't know if this is a new bug, or if anyone else has found this. I've been chunking through all the models and cabs to find my favorites and see the differences between the amps, cabs and mics, so I set up a "Test Bench" set list for experimenting with the sounds. Side note - as I was going through the list of cabs finding the ones that load with the 421, my Helix glitched on me -- everything FX, Amps, ALL blocks on the top path disappeared. I was in my "Test Bench" set list, so I loaded my normal gigging set list and everything on those top path's were gone as well. when I re-booted the Helix, the patches rebuilt, with the count-up, and came back with the top paths back in place. That's the first glitch like that in these most recent set of firmware(s) that I've had. Has anyone else noted this behavior? Dave.
  23. I think helix in a large unit. Emulations of amps and cabinets are perfect. But to improve among other things the delay block. No digital delay with modulation. Also no modulation duck. I'm waiting for a firmware update with these delays do not understand how the podhd500 have these blocks and the helix no.
  24. Did an open mic night and used JTV Variax>Helix>FOH, except for a Digitech Jamman Stereo for playing backing tracks. It went great and was totally happy with my tone!! Totally hassle free :) https://youtu.be/tpUnn8Xckf0
  25. I hope the thread title makes sense. I'm working on getting my Helix and DT 50 to play nice together. I've learned to assign footswitches to send midi commands to set up Channel A/B, Voicing, Class, and Triode/Pentode in a given patch. If I switch to a second patch with different settings, is there a way to have the original settings recalled automatically when I return to the first patch? Or do I, once the patch is open, then have to press the footswitches to resend the commands? Thanks for your help.
