  1. I get the whole tweak with my feet thing and the onboard editor is nice but a mouse and keyboard based editor along the lines of POD HD500X Edit is still the easiest method. Especially with the complexity and cleverness of Helix. Also how soon until additional delays are available (reverse, auto volume etc.) or is Helix to be thought of a component/controller in a big rack system.
  2. So, I am getting my Helix on Monday. Check out my video where I talk about the videos I am going to make and where I ask you what kind of videos you would like to see.
  3. Hello, Every since I got my Helix a few weeks ago (november 2015) that the LED screen over FS9 flickers (turns off and on rapidly) a few minutes after I turn on the unit and keeps flickering randomly. It sometimes stays off for a few seconds I don't think this problem is firmware related because it started doing this with the original 1.0 firmware and subsequently with firmware 1.03 and 1.04.1. I've tried several things to fix this problem like resetting (FS9 + FS10) the and powering off for a while but nothing works. Should I send the unit back for repair? Thanks, F.
  4. I bought the 500 x because its operating system was like my X3 and it was rugged instead of plastic... I was also not interested in sounding exactly like certain bands it is designed to model... I get close and tweek my own style... I want to make sure that I didn't make a mistake not getting the newest design, and that the hd500x is gonna be supported for a long time...
  5. I'm not sure if this has been answered or not, but I have a question about the looper and using an external midi controller. If I were to use an external controller to trigger the looper functions with midi commands, will the Helix (control section) go into looper mode or will it remain in preset/footswitch mode?
  6. Early 2015 we recorded a song with the HD Pro. Now, the same song we re-recorded a few weeks ago with the Helix: guitars, bass and vocals. My conclusion: there's just nothing bad you can say about the Helix :) Listen to the difference: HD Pro: https://soundcloud.com/amazing_air/all-the-strangers Helix https://soundcloud.com/amazing_air/all-the-strangers-helixx
  7. I LOVE the Helix BUT, I have a wish. Not with the Helix unit itself though. I wish that users (or Line 6 themselves since they would be most knowledgeable/qualified to know where a potential sweet spot might be) would come up with some sort of a gold standard for creating/sharing presets where 'Helix output volume' is concerned. I know presets are always going to sound differently depending upon the many variables in music genre/guitars/amps/headphones/studio equip/etc. But the enormous difference in volume levels ,and their effect on distortion/tone, among various shared presets (and admittedly even the ones coming with the unit itself) is ridiculous. Contrary to my previous understanding, a preset does not sound the same regardless of Helix volume output knob setting being used anymore than an analog tube amp and pedal board will. I'm using a Stage-source L3t and you can't create a preset with a low Helix output volume level and expect it to sound the same when you turn the output volume up - or visa versa. 'In that particular aspect' I've found that the 4 cable method to back of an amp actually works a little better. But it seems to me that problems could be diminished greatly for everyone if everyone had a 'reasonable' standard Helix volume output knov setting for every setup "method" being used to create the setup. One for those using four cable method, one for those who go to the front of an amp, those using headphones, Stage-source/FRFR speakers or like, etc. Maybe one volume setting could work for all. I don't know but why not at least narrow it down. Maybe simply tell others, when posting, where your Helix and general external equipment volume level was when you created it. And yes, of course you would still need to tweak tone settings to suit your own desired overall volume level for any future given venue or purpose. But at least you would have a much better idea, to start with, of what the pre-set's creator actually "intended" for it to sound like. As it is now, downloading a decent preset seems like a crap shoot. And more than likely almost all of them sound really great from the perspective of the creator and his unpredictable equipment settings. LikeComment Share
  8. Hi everyone, I just joined the forum and this is my first post here. For the most part, I'm really loving the Helix so far and am using it straight into a Mesa Boogie Express 5:50+ or a Carvin Legacy 3. It took a bunch of tweaking and reading on this forum, but eventually I was able to get some great tones out of it. So, thanks for all your great posts advice that helped me accomplish that! Anyway, I finally decided to attempt my first firmware update tonight but the Line 6 Updater 1.04 won't recognize the Helix. I'm running it on a mid-2009 Mac Book Pro running OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks). The Helix App 1.03 seemed to work fine because I was able to export my presets with no problem. I should note that the reason I'm still using such an old MacBook (lol) is because it has a 17" screen which Apple, in their infinite "wisdom", discontinued. And I can't update the OS due to some software that needs to run on Mavericks. I REALLY don't want to have to buy a new laptop, so any advice on getting the firmware successfully updated would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  9. Hi all Just received my Helix :) It is awesome in every way except one :( After a few minutes of playing, regardless of which patch, the output volume just decreases by itself. Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know what causes it and, more importantly, if it can be fixed? Thanks to all who take the trouble to help and inform
  10. took the plunge and bought a L2M today. Together with a good 110 ohm XLR cable. Connected the Helix via the Line 6 link and am very dissapointed. I must be doing something wrong. The digital clipping is back on the mandarin and brittish amps. All the others are sounding harsh and far away from all the sounds I am hearing from other Helix users. Bought the Glenn delaunne patches and only the 5150 patch is comming a bit nearer but is still souding like a cheap transistor amp My POD 500x and the DT25 amp sounding much better. This combination helix/l2m should at a minimum sound the same So, what am I doing wrong? (FW loaded again, stock patches via the headphone OK, NOK with the lm2) Someone having an idea? I am running out....
  11. Any possibility of having the option on Helix to go from 1-128 intend of 000-127?
  12. Anybody know if there is any reason this wouldn't work with the regular Helix floor unit? It also has a toe switch built in. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SP1L6H
  13. I used the Helix for the vocals and bass guitar. Used the Helix with my DT 50 amp like this for the rhythm and lead guitars: Guitar -> Helix -> Send from Helix to 1/4" input of DT50 amp with topology on I for the clean sound and IV for the lead (with all preamps, cabs, and mics turned off in DT 50) -> Speaker cable from DT 50 Amp to Riviera Rock Crusher Power Attenuator-> Line signal 1/4" out of Rock Crusher back to Helix Return-> Marshall Cab IR 3" from cone -> XLR out of Helix into VS2480 Digital Studio Here is the result: https://soundcloud.com/robbie-boyette/stirred-up-the-funk
  14. As I've tested my new Helix and easily established it's a keeper I'm starting the HD->HX migration and I'd need a couple of missing effects to be added from HD, hopefully HX-modelled so brand new and better. Please vote if you miss these as well: Sub-Octave-Fuzz: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Sub-Octave-Fuzz/797971-23508 Slow Filter: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Slow-Filter/797972-23508 Octisynth: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Octisynth/797973-23508 Obi-Wah (I already posted this one): http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Obi-Wah/797426-23508 Seeker (not my Ideascale entry...): http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/M-series-Seeker-model-in-Helix/794010-23508 I think that would be all, I can sell my HD Pro once these are done ;)

    Obi-Wah for Helix

Now that my Helix is on its way to me it's time for some ideascaling... ;) For those of you who are missing Obi-Wah (Sample & Hold filter) on Helix, please vote here: http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Obi-Wah/797426-23508 I loved it both in XT and HD...
  16. I'm trying to migrate to the Helix from my HD500X, and am not able to get rid of the overtly fizzy top end when inserting a distortion effect. I've seen mention of fizzy high-end in some of these threads, but I've not found a solution that mitigates the issue when using the Helix as a front-end stomp-box-type pedal feeding an outboard guitar amp. To simplify things on the Helix, I've got a chain with ONE module - the Valve Driver Distortion. On my HD500X I used a Tube Drive. Both of those effects are intended to mirror the Chandler Tube Drive. I'm taking a mono 1/4" Out from the Helix, and sending that to the front of my '65 Fender Deluxe Reissue amp. I do the same with the HD500X, and swap the output of each unit feeding the front of the amp. - On the HD500X, I've got the Input Impedance set to AUTO, and have set the Helix Input to the same. - On the HD500X, I've got the Guitar Pad on NORMAL, and have set the Helix Guitar Pad to OFF. - On the HD500X, I've got the 1/4" Out set to AMP, and have set the Helix 1/4" Out to INSTRUMENT. That is it. Squeaky clean simple - or so I would think. Distortion settings on the 2 units are the same (though, for some reason the HD500X has Midrange control for its Tube Drive (set at 50%). Drive, Bass, Treble and Output are set identical between the HD500X and the Helix. There is an overt amount of top end fizz and splat coming from the Helix when using a Distortion effect. Clean sounds seem to be OK. I've tried different Distortion effects, and all produce the same high end characteristic. It's like plugging an MXR Distortion+ directly into a mixing console. I'm at a loss in determining how to mitigate the issue.
  17. So whenever I update my Helix it always recommends saving a bundle and then overwriting everything to make sure presets are all updated and such. Now if I just save a bundle, doesn't that save ALL the presets on the Helix? Therefore, if I update, and the import the bundle, aren't I just reloading all the OLD presets? What I've been doing to be safe is just exporting my 2 user setlists that I've created, then updating, then holding buttons 7 and 8 (bottom left 2 buttons) to overwrite the presets, then importing my 2 custom user setlists. Any feedback? Thanks!
  18. Hi, unfortunately I have to sale my brand-new Helix because I am caught in a financial predicament. If you are interested send a message to: sigitar@mac.com leider muss ich meinen funkelnagelneuen Helix wieder verkaufen. :( Interessenten melden sich unter oben stehender email Adresse....
  19. I'd love to hear it in person - possibly try Helix with it. Don't mind tossing you some cash for your trouble just can't find it anywhere.
  20. Don't do anything! It auto calibrates. If you're having trouble getting the pedal to stay at 0% it might be due to the tension being too loose. Try tightening it with the provided hex wrench.
  21. So I was one of the fortunate ones to get a Helix as soon as it came out. The UI and the way to really get under the hood to make patches was a bit over my head, but out of the gate I had some pretty great sounding tones. Then came a bad software update and some glitches and my unit was replaced - Kudos to Line 6 for incredible customer service. Here's the problem, and maybe someone here can help me because I am at the point of sending this thing right back to Sweetwater. My original unit sounded great. Patches sounded big and real. On my new one, EVERYTHING sounds like the first Zoom multi Fx pedal I ever owned. Everything except the cleans sound super fizzy and plastic. I've tried rolling off highs, changing mics and placement, but nothing is working. I've used it on a few gigs and it's just awful. Any advice? Thanks
  22. When I tweak a Helix preset, it automatically loads the current Variax model when I save the preset. This did not happen with the HD500. The Variax model is not saved with the Helix preset Am I doing something wrong, or can this not be changed? When I want to use several different variax guitar models with a Helix amp model, I don't want the Helix to save the currently loaded one.
  23. Happy Thanksgiving and warm holiday wishes to all! Everyone please be safe and may you all be stuffed with Turkey. If not may someone find you wanting and promptly stuff you with turkey! Lol PEACE TO ALL!!!
  24. my helix arrives tomorrow, so perhaps this will become obvious once I start fiddling with the unit, BUT.. What are the primary differences between the two modes: preset & stombox?? From an application standpoint, I mean. I would love to have 5 or 6 FS assigned to different amp stacks. None of these amp stacks will have any fx built-in. I would also like 2 or 3 FS assigned to my most used delay & verb. I plan on running most of my spacial & modulation fx through the fx loops to my eventide h9's...using the helix mainly for different amp tones. I'm in a gigging cover band, & I'm trying to envision what type of tap-dance I will have to do during a show.
  25. I was trying to set up a portable recording solution for my Helix. Since I am not an Apple guy, no iPad, I was hoping for an Android solution. I found n-Track Studio for Android for $20 that does multi-track recording and the latest Kindle Fire with Android 5.0 for $49. Hooked it up to the Helix USB using an OTG cable and it recognizes the Helix in the audio setup. Only problem is it only shows zero for sample rate and buffer size. :( Other than that it looks great and has a ton of features. I really thought that since Helix was "class compliant" it would be a perfect solution. As it sits now, the guys at n-Track are trying to figure out the issue. They are waiting for a response from Line 6 so hopefully they will play nicely and get it resolved. I really don't want to drag a laptop around... Has anyone else been able to get a portable recording setup working over USB? Apple or Android? Or even just audio playback over USB with Android? BTW, even if it never works, the Fire is a steal at $49... ;)
