Hey Guys, I am having issues with the expression pedal. For some reason, I can never get it to reach 100%, it's not so bad when using it for gain/volume, wah, or when programming it to modify bass/treble levels or stuff like that. But when using it for Pitch shift/whammy, if I am not able to reach the exact octave, it sounds terrible (as if I am always off tune) I usually activate the whammy while using the expression pedal's toe switch. The weird thing is this: when I turn off/on the Helix LT, at first, if I use solely the whammy, it works well... (I reach 100%) If I turn on/off any other pedal, before or even after I use the Whammy, then when I go back to the whammy, it becomes offset to 98-99%. I thought it was a physical issue, but it seems to be an internal midi instruction issue. Anyone noticed the same thing?

Has anyone found any creative ways (other than using USB) to have a Helix (Rack) connect to a PowerCab 212+ via L6 Link and still allow for some sort of digital output (into a soundcard, for instance)? I use a Helix Rack + PC 212+ alongside a Clarett 8Pre and am bummed that switching on my PowerCab (connected to the Helix via L6) disables the S/PDIF output - I use the latter to intake the Helix signal, keeping some analog channels open and staying in the digital realm. I quickly perused the forum, but didn’t find any ideas that’d specifically address that scenario. Self-deprecatingly, -LesSand

Hey people, got a problem with setting up the wah pedal on my Helix. My target is to set it up like Jonny in this video: Line 6 Helix Wah settings TIPS and TRICKS. - YouTube So for everybody who doesn't want to watch the video: I want to work like my old Bad Horsie 2. Selecting my wah pedal and chosing the Expression Pedal as the bypass switch on 0% (have tried with a little more % but it doesn't work either). Min Position on about 15%. With that setup it should automatically be activatet when I use the pedal and when it comes down to zero again or below the certain value that I choose for the position parameter it should be off. And here's the problem when I set it up like that: The wah is off in the beginning. When I use the expression pedal nothing happens. When I reach my bypass value the wah is turned on. Then I can use it until I hit the bypass value again. Then to activate it again I have to use the pedal and come down to the bypass value and so on and on. Sometimes when I set my wah pedal up again the exact same way it works as it should until I change something. But most of the time it only works as discribed above. Has anybody any tipps for me?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I am able to get Looper to work on other presets, however I have a particular preset (attached below Acoustic 6str.hlx) in which it doesn't work properly. I am able to add Looper to this preset, and the buttons respond as expected (e.g. for "1 Switch Looper" I can see RED for record and GREEN for playback....and similar visuals for the "6 Switch Looper" I can see the IN/OUT OVERDUB labels and solid/blinking white knob toggles) however nothing is played back (I can't tell if it was recorded and playback volume is 0, or if just not recorded). I've tried removing that effect from the path (remove>>save>>restart>>add back) but same issue. I'm still learning my Helix Floor (running v3.15) so I could be missing the obvious. I believe this issue occurred with 3.11 (what my unit was shipped with in Dec 2021) so don't think it's 3.15 issue. Below is image of "Acoustic 6str.hlx" preset has quite a bit going on. Originally Looper was the very last effect (after last Volume) so I tried moving it around to trigger a positive result. Forgive my experimentations. Acoustic 6str.hlx

Recently, I upgraded to a L6 Helix, two M-Audio speaker monitors, and the Clarett+ 4pre audio interface. My issue is how to connect what I have to get the most out of it. This setup isn't for gigs, it's for home recording. 1.-- I have a spdif cable connected from the output of the helix to the "optical in" of the clarett+. It's a "cinnamon" toslink optical cable. I have two more "digital" livewire spdif cables. I see there is an extra spdif "in" and "out" on the back of the Clarett audio interface, besides the optical in. On the Helix, the spdif output is connected to the clarett optical in, but the input is available. How many spdif cables should I connect? How should they be connected? Also, I have xlr to 1/4 cables--the music store said I would still need these even with Spdif input and output. Do I need to use two xlr - 1/4 cables in addition to spdif (Helix xlr outputs to Clarett audio interface 1/4 line inputs)? Should I not use both spdif and xlr together? 2.-- Both the Clarett+ audio interface and the Helix use usb interfaces to connect to a computer. Clarett uses a mini usb, and Helix uses a more traditional (looking) usb. I was told to either use the Helix usb or both, and they leaned toward both being preferable. Which is the best configuration? 3.-- I feel novice as hell asking this, but should I plug my instrument (guitar, in this case) into the Clarett AI or the Helix? If I want distortion, do I have to plug it into the Helix? Appreciate the help ~Ven

Hi everyone, I do have a Line6 Helix Floor, not LT, and I noticed that my expression pedal gets loose after using it for some swells. I have to tighten the screw at the side again and again which is kinda annoying. Does anyone have a solution for this or experience with it? Thanks in advance!

All questions and comments welcome. Marshall JVM Channel Switching with Helix MIDI This works with Helix Firmware Version 2.20 and later. PURPOSE - Have your JVM automatically switch to any desired channel preset combination when pressing any Helix Preset or Snapshot button. IMPORTANT - Following the procedures described here may cause you to lose any MIDI switching settings you already have programmed into your Helix and JVM. IMPORTANT: Set Helix MIDI Global Settings by going to Menu Button > Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > MIDI PC Send (Page 2) > Off With that understood. DO THIS FIRST Connect a standard, five pin, MIDI cable from the Helix MIDI Out/Thru connector to the JVM Midi In connector. DO THIS SECOND JVM Factory Reset - the following procedure is for a JVM205H (See the Reset procedure for your amp if different). This will erase all the MIDI presets and set MIDI reception channel to #1. 1. Switch the amplifier power off (power switch off, not standby switch). 2. Press and hold CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch. 3. Switch the amplifier power on (power switch on, not standby switch). The two channel LEDs will glow steady red. 4. Release the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch. Both the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE and the OVERDRIVE MODE switch LEDs will be lit solid red. 6. Press OVERDRIVE MODE switch. Both LEDs will blink Red then the CLEAN/CRUNCH MODE switch will light Green. Done with that. Channel Switching with Helix Presets Only If you do not use Helix Snapshots, and only use Helix Presets, this is for you. You can have your JVM switch to any channel settings when changing Helix Presets. Here is how: 1. Press any Helix Preset button EXCEPT the one you want to program. 2. Set your JVM channels, reverb, fx loop etc. to the settings you want. 3. Put the JVM in the Learn mode by pressing the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. The FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch on the JVM will be blinking. 4. Press the Helix Preset button you want to program. The FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch will blink fast a few times and go out. Done. Now, every time you press that Helix Preset button, the JVM will switch back to those settings. Repeat for other Presets. Channel Switching with Helix Presets and Snapshots IMPORTANT - Before you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots it is important to understand that once you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots, you will have to go through all of your Presets and program at least one Snapshot. Otherwise, when switching between Presets, the amp settings will stay in their last state. Also, any MIDI Switching for Presets, that you have now, will be lost. With that understood. DO THIS FIRST FIRST Make a list like this: Preset# Snapshot# Program # Description 01A 1 0 Clean Green 01A 2 1 Overdrive Green 01A 3 2 Overdrive Green / Reverb On 01A 4 3 Overdrive Green / Reverb On / Master Volume On This is just a sample list. Your final list will, likely, look quite different. For now, just use this list for the programming examples. More on this later. The Program # is the code number of the MIDI PC (Program Change) Message that the Helix will send to the JVM when you press a Preset or Snapshot button on the Helix. This is how the JVM knows to change to a certain combination of settings. The Description is how the amp channels will be set after pressing a Preset or Snapshot button on the Helix. If MIDI and Program Change and PC Message sounds like a foreign language to you right now, do not worry, you will not need to know any of that technical stuff. Just make the list and follow along. DO THIS SECOND Go to Menu > Global Settings > MIDI/Tempo > Page 2 > MIDI PC Send - Turn this off > Press Home button DO THIS THIRD Navigate to the Preset you want to program and select Snapshot 1. Press the Menu button and then press the Command Center knob. Use the joystick to move to an unused Instant Command (Lightning Bolt). Any Commands already in use will have a Turquoise triangle above them. If you do not see any Turquoise triangles, just go to the lightning bolt in the top left corner. That is Instant Command 1. With an Instant Command (Lightning Bolt) now highlighted, turn the Command knob to Command - Bank/Prog You should see five settings and they should look like this: Command: Bank/Prog Midi Ch: Base Bank CC00: off Bank CC32: off Program: off Now, get the list that you made, earlier. Please note, when setting the Instant Commands below: Helix is, at this time, very particular about saving your settings as you go. You'll see "Press Save two times." after each change. It's an inconvenience, but it works. Check the setting for each Snapshot when you are done, to make sure you are sending the correct Program#. The only Helix setting we are going to change is Program. Looking at the list we see that the Program# for Preset 01A Snapshot 1 is 0. So, set the Program to 0 (zero). Leave everything else as/is. Press Save two times. Return to Instant Commands. Press Snapshot 2 button. Set Program to 1. Press Save two times. Return to Instant Commands. Press Snapshot 3 button. Set Program to 2. Press Save two times. Return to Instant Commands. Press Snapshot 4 button. Set Program to 3. Press Save two times. You should now be back at the Home screen. Check the setting for each Snapshot when you are done, to make sure you are sending the correct Program#. We have, now, programmed our first four Snapshots on the Helix to do channel switching duties on the JVM. The only thing left to do is program the JVM to match. Looking at the list, we are saying we want Preset 01A Snapshot 1 to be Clean Green on the amp. On the Helix you should be on Preset 01A. Press Snapshot 2 button, or any Snapshot EXCEPT the one you want to program. Set the JVM to Clean Green. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. It should be blinking to indicate it is in the learn mode. Press Snapshot 1 button. The JVM FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch will blink rapidly a few times and then go out. Set JVM to Overdrive Green. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. Press Snapshot 2 button. Set JVM to Overdrive Green / Reverb On. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. Press Snapshot 3 button. Set JVM to Overdrive Green / Reverb On / Master Volume On. Press the FOOTSWITCH/MIDI PROGRAM switch two times. Press Snapshot 4 button. Done. Preset 01A Snapshots 1-4 should, now, recall the amp settings just like it is on the list. Setting Preset Default Snapshot To set a particular Snapshot as the default, for any given Preset, perform the following: In this example we will set Snapshot 2 as the default for Preset 01A. Navigate to Preset 01A and select Snapshot 2. Press the Save button two times. Done. Now, every time you switch to Preset 01A, no matter where you were, it will automatically go to Snapshot 2 and the JVM will switch to whatever amp settings you had for that Snapshot. Summary and Caveats Before you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots it is important to understand that once you make the change to MIDI Switching for Snapshots, you will have to go through all of your Presets and program at least one Snapshot. Otherwise, when switching between Presets, the amp settings will stay in their last state. Also, any MIDI Switching for Presets, that you have now, will be lost. Following the procedures described here may cause you to lose any MIDI switching settings you may already have programmed into your Helix and JVM. The JVM will store 128 settings. For the two channel JVMs, there is a possible 48 settings combinations. For the four channel JVMs there is a possible 96 settings combinations. Each setting will have a different Program# (0-127). For example, if you wanted to add Clean Amber to the list, that would get a new Program#, maybe 4 since that has not been used already. If you are using/re-using a setting that is already on the list, even if it is on a different Preset, you would still use that same Program#. For example, if I wanted to use Clean Green on Preset 13B2 Snapshot 3, the Program# for that Snapshot is still going to be 0. If you are only using two Snapshots for a Preset, you do not have to program all four like we did above. By the same token, if you are using eight, you will have to program the other four. Special thanks to @phil_m and everyone that helped me work through this.

Hi all! About a year ago, I was using an MXR 10-band EQ in the FX loop of my amplifier and it sounded amazingly good. I noticed it was giving me some bad hiss though, so I switched it out for a Source Audio EQ2 about 6 months ago, which also sounded good. I wanted to add delay, reverb, and an amp modeler into the amp's FX loop along with the EQ, so I ultimately decided to sell the EQ2 and put an HX Stomp in the amp's FX loop to do all of this. Currently, this is how my HX Stomp functions and here is my signal chain: Guitar > front of amp effects > preamp > FX loop send > HX Stomp 10 band EQ > HX Stomp digital delay > FX loop return > power amp The problem is that upon switching out the EQ2 for the HX Stomp, when I set the Stomp's 10-band EQ parameters to what the previous EQ's were set at, I realized there was an extremely noticeable jump in some of the frequencies. The signal immediately sounded very nasally. Through messing with the frequencies, I realized there was a boost in frequency right around 1K Hz. To give an idea of how different the frequency hike is, 1K Hz on the old EQ was set at +2 dB (I run a little hotter for more gain in the FX loop). On the HX Stomp, I have to run this same frequency at -2.0 dB to achieve a comparable sound. However, running this frequency this low on the Stomp's EQ is causing some fidelity issues; coming out of speaker, anything around 1K Hz sounds like it coming out of an AM radio. You can imagine this is frustrating. Has anyone had this issue and/or does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, or advice on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for just a crisp Fender Twin style clean tone that I can use as a starting-point for my patches. I've played with all of the factory presets, and a LOT of the clean-tones I've found on the forum, and so far I haven't been able to find anything that just sounds like a regular old CLEAN Fender Twin. They all seem to sound like 1 of 2 things: either just too squashed (they all sound like there's already some gain happening- if you just play a chord with any force, they already seem to start breaking up); OR they're those super ambient reverb-delay type clean tones (which don't get me wrong- those sound super cool and all, but I need just a good flat CLEAN tone). I play in a band that covers a LOT of different styles of music. Right now I get about 90% of my tones on-stage from just my clean Divided by 13 JRT 9/15 (think SUPER clean like a Fender Twin) with an Analog Man King of Tone in front of it, all mic'd by an SM57 pretty close to the grill. That's IT. And that's basically what I'm looking to replicate with the Helix, but I haven't even been able to get CLOSE, yet. Now, I know that's a "boutique" amp with a "boutique" pedal in front of it, but really I'm just looking for ANYTHING that's super clean, and NOT squashed. Like a clean tone where if you just strum an E-chord with some force, you can hear the fullness (headroom?) of the low AND high E-strings, without any breakup. Again nothing wrong with some killer break-up, but that's just not what I'm going for, here. I want it to be CLEAN as can be, until I put on a distortion pedal. I'm SURE the Helix is capable of this kind of clean tone, but apparently I'm too freaking dumb to make one myself! Every "clean" tone I've downloaded seems to sound like a Fender Twin.... only with like a blanket over it. Please- SOMEONE help me find a NOT-squasehd, BIG, crisp clean tone! Lastly- not sure how much this matters or not- but I'll be using this tone directly to/through the PA. We play a lot of big rooms, and I need a clean tone big enough to fill the space. That's where I've run into a lot of problems- a lot of the Helix clean tones sound okay until I have them going through the PA, at which point they seem to go from a little-squashed to "why aren't you just using an amp, you chump" squashed. THANKS, everyone!

Looking for any input from someone using a Taylor T5Z with Helix. I currently have a JTV59 and JTV89F along with a VAC700 and all sound great through the helix. I am primarily trying to give myself a kick in the butt into playing more and have been looking at the Taylor T5Z. Any insight would be appreciated-Leftzilla

Hi all, this is my first post. Need some help about my Helix LT. So Last night i had a gig and i used Marshall Tube amp. The sound was nasty, terrible. So i learned from few forums that i need to use FRFR speaker to get a clean authentic Helix sound. So my Question is what is the best FRFR speaker? Does QSC K series consider as an FRFR speaker? I do gigs here and there and i drive coupe. So won't able to carry a big speaker.

Hi, I'm digging in to doing some re-amping, with a choice of using either my Helix Floor or Helix Native for the job. I've got my routing working either way, and they both sound great, but it appears there is one compelling reason to do the majority of re-amping "discovery" in Helix Native. The reason is that, so far as I have been able to determine, checking out different patches via Helix Floor requires me to reset the Helix Floor patch input (e.g. to USB 3-4) every time I change to a new patch. OTOH, when using Helix Native, I can just click on new patches bing-bang-boom, no input resetting required. This is MUCH quicker! Do I understand the situation correctly, or am I missing the trick as to how to re-amp with Helix Floor without having to constantly set the patch input? (All the above using Helix ASIO driver, with a music mix playing back from the DAW)

Hello Helix Gurus! I'm trying to use the Poly Capo in order to make my guitar that tuned for D standard to sound like a guitar tuned in C standard. I decreased the interval by 2 but instead of it sounding like a guitar tuned for C standard it sounds lower but the are harmonies with each chord or not I play. Is there a setting I'm forgetting to set or am I completely misunderstanding how to use Poly Capo. I did follow a tutorial on You Tube it seemed to work for them. Why not me! haha I attached a screen capture of my configuration. Hopefully somebody will see some simple mistake I made. Thank you!!

I have dabbled in snapshots just one time though I feel like I have an intermediate understanding for snapshots. However, it seems when I go to create a new preset that the same snapshots appear in the new preset and I can't change them, that is, their names, their settings, the blocks they include/exclude, etc., or create new snapshots without changing the snapshots in the original preset. It's difficult for me to believe that Helix only allows a total of 8 snapshots globally. There must be a way to have separate snapshots per presets. What am I doing wrong or not understanding?

So it’s just… HX Stomp, but with more touch footswitches and all the jacks on the back? For $150 more? Yes. …Why? Because customers asked for more switches. Or kept finding clever—but way less elegant or integrated—ways to add more switches. And it was relatively easy. We’re not going to pretend it’s the most innovative product we’ve ever designed but for some customers, it’s the goldilocks form factor. Thanks, but my personal needs require a Variax input, twice the DSP, and six switches, not eight. Why didn’t you give me exactly what I want? <exasperated sigh> So it’s like the size of two HX Stomps? If you omit the space required for jacks on the side (even pancake jacks), more like 1-2/3 Stomps. It’s 12.5” wide (vs. HX Stomp’s 7” width). Depth and height are virtually identical. Does it add anything else? Hands-free Pedal Edit mode (tweak presets with your feet), 128 presets vs.126, four snapshots per preset vs. three, and you can access the 6 Switch Looper without needing a MIDI controller. Other than that, it is HX Stomp with 5 extra switches. Does it have the Command Center? Absolutely. In fact, a big reason HX Stomp got the Command Center in 3.0 is because we had already done the work for HX Stomp XL. Wait, what happened to the Volume knob? We moved it to the back panel to save room. It’s spring loaded so you can recess it into the chassis to keep your cables from accidentally turning it. Can I use third-party power supplies? Yes. Any power supply that works with HX Stomp should work fine with HX Stomp XL. Can it load HX Stomp presets? Yep, just drag ‘em in via HX Edit. It can also load Helix, Helix Rack+Control, Helix LT, Helix Native, and HX Effects presets, as long as they contain 8 or fewer blocks on a single DSP path. What are the reset options? Hold these button combinations while powering up the HX Stomp XL: 1. FS ^, C & D: clears all presets/IRs 2. FS ^+C: resets presets and IRs 3. FS C+D: factory restore (globals, presets, IRs) 4. Page >: Update mode. This update mode is helpful if the update is interrupted, and the HX Stomp will not boot properly. You will see a blank screen (no visual feedback on the display). 5. Upper & Lower Knobs: Rebuild presets. Wait for "Will Rebuild Presets..." to appear and let go. Can backup files be exported/imported between HX Stomp and HX Stomp XL? No, the backup file is not compatible across HX Stomp and Stomp XL. If you would like to move your presets, IRs, etc. You would need to manually export the individual files and import them into the other device. You can also connect both devices to HX Edit simultaneously and then drag and drop the files across HX Edit windows. Both versions of HX Stomp or HX Stomp XL should be on the same firmware version for dragging and dropping to function.

Dear forum, It's been six months since the release of 3.10 firmware update and the crowd is starting to show their pitchforks up on the TGP. DI had been really secretive during the last months until two weeks ago... when he started telling us about how L6 staff decided to split the new firmware in two installments because it features intellectual property that will be included in upcoming product releases for the next year. He has also stated that the EVH 5150 III is a top priority but wont't be present in 3.15 (f%#$), and there are some L6 original amp models as well as half a dozen effects are already cooked up. Are you guys ready to start the guessing game? My two cents here... Maestro Brassmaster Distortion pedal (coming a long way from POD X3, only stompbox not recreated for POD HD and HX tech) HX Room Reverb HX Plate Reverb (though the Double Tank and the Plateaux are in that ballpark minus the pitch shifting) Feedbacker (not as powerful as the Freqout but hope to be not as limited as the Boss FB-2) HX Metal Zone (standalone and Keeley Modded) Maybe some modulation (EHX Small Clone Chorus or Boss Flanger BF-2). I'd love a Boss Phaser Ph1-r but the EHX Small Stone was added in 2.90 (slim and none chance to get it). Hope not more fuzzboxes. We're gonna OD and die from them (not as in "overdrive"). The amps really is a mystery... with the 5150 III already down... maybe a Bogner XTC, a 90s solid state Randall, a Mark II C+, or a VHT... Hope that the Line 6 Albatross once hinted by DI is on its way (though the name s@cks... Line 6 Psychopath, Preposterous or Ludicrous sound better). It's supposed to be an HX version of the untimely loved/infamous POD X3 Insane mode... According to the POD X3 red booklet is something like a Dual Recto preamp feeding the Soldano poweramp... How can you metalheads say no?? I liked using it in... 2009. Blues lawyers are waiting for the Dumble ODS-100... seems the Litigator model didn't suit their thirst for a U$S 50,000 amp tone. Whaddya guys think? Don't wanna leave without saying how great the Helix has become with each firmware update. All my go-to amps and effects were added im firmware updates (Line 6 Badonk and 2204 Mod, Vintage Digital, Double Tank, Plastichorus, Pebble Phaser) so I'm really grateful. Keep up the excellent work!!!! P.s: Really looking forward to seeing what the future will bring.

I had never tried using Workbench HD via Helix to connect to my Variax and change a model, but trying now failed to connect to the Variax. Doing so directly with the USB dongle worked and I got the job done. Curious though whether I have a lingering problem because doing this via Helix should work since Helix version 2.20 or so. Is there anything special I need to setup / configure on Helix to enable Workbench HD -> Helix -> JTV communication? I am running with the latest MAC OS, Helix, Workbench HD, and JTV FW versions and are directly connected from USB-C to Helix with a USB printer cable (the latter worked with the USB dongle)

All right guys, There are a couple of pictures and diagrams floating around that show the Helix connected via MIDI to a keyboard. Just because I'm the kind of guy who has to test the limits of things, could you actually fudge a working keyboard/synth sound with the Helix? Obviously you'd be able to use the keyboard to have a bunch of MIDI presets on recall real quickly (one per key on the keyboard), which is helpful. But how far down that rabbit hole could you go? Could I lean over mid-set and whip out some mad synth lines? Because, at least the way I see things, any chance I have to not travel with a keys player is a chance worth taking :P

Does anyone know if it is possible to bend the pitch of individual strings up or down on the Variax by use of the Helix expression pedal or using a momentary switch? Similar to another product by another company. Bending the string controlled with expression pedal as if using a finger to bend the string.

So I had my Helix dialed in via snapshot banks and I have 1 bank of 8 snapshots for each song. I had my distortions and cleans and mixes per snapshots dialed in where I wanted it. Then randomly after not playing the unit for a week or two, I turned it on and ran into a terrible issue. All of my distortions were quieter and sounded terrible and my volume level per snapshot were all over the place. I cannot understand how this could happen. I backed it up and upgraded the firmware and still no fix. Again, things were dialed in and all of the sudden they weren't. They are still at the parameters I set but the volume on clean snapshots are louder than snapshots with distortion and the distortion sounds awful too. I can only think of trying to get a new unit and see if that fixes it unless someone has an idea? Thank you.
