unit: hx effects firmware: 2.40.0 Is it possible to stop recording a loop w/ a single action? I know that i can hit record to start a new loop - that's not what I want. I know that I can hit play twice real fast to play and then stop, but some of the loop will still play (whatever sneaks out in between the first and second press of the button). UNDO works fine for overdubs, so I was surprised that it wouldn't also abort the current recording. (IMO, UNDO should stop the current recording for the first loop.) This might not seem like a big deal, but I depend heavily on the looper so this could be a deal-breaker that causes me to return the unit in favor of something else, which I don't want to do! Thanks.

I recently purchased a FX effect unit and really like everything it can do. I'm running 4cm into a Hughes and Kettner tubemeister 36 head. As I'm building a scene, i get the distortion from the HX effect dialed in. As I add to the signal chain and place the effects loop (after the distortion) the sound becomes thin, almost like a am radio. If I turn the loop off i get the original sound. Am I missing something on the set up? I have a comp, Distortion, fx loop, chorus, delay, and noise gate. Other than using snapshots to turn the loop on only when I want the amps distortion, am i missing something in the set up?

Is it possible to create Path B without dedicating an effect block to the path? I'd like to have have two separate paths for the L/R inputs, then combine them at the output so I can use one cable to head back to my amp. I have no problem doing this by moving any effect block down to Path B and adjusting the "Y Input" accordingly... but I don't need any effects in that path. My pedal steel (Path B) already has the effects it needs so I would prefer to keep all 9 blocks available to my electric in Path A.

I put my HX Effects in the loop of my HD500 and use the HD as an I/O, Midi Controller and a few extra effects. Overall it works great, but I want to use the volume pedal block in the HX Effects (it has the taper option)... that is where the problem comes in. I have no problem assigning the EXP1 from my HD to the volume pedal block on the HX... but there is too much latency to make it usable, somewhere around 250ms or so which is not very responsive. Patch changes are instant, as are snapshot changes. I use a short midi cable (3') and have tried two different cables with the same results. In the meantime I just setup a volume pedal block in the HD but I've never liked it because it's linear... I prefer the option of using the Audio (LOG) taper. I could also use an external expression pedal - that seems to work fine, but I'm trying to avoid extra pieces. So - this isn't a big deal as I can work around it... but if anyone has any suggestions about the latency I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Recently came across this issue. I tried setting up my HX Effects with a Decibel 11 Switch Doctor to switch presets and snapshots on the HX Effects via the Switch Doctor. Every time I tried to switch to a different preset, it would automatically switch to the tuner when selecting a new preset. Also, I couldn't get it to switch snapshots correctly using Midi CC messages. As far as I can tell, all my settings are correct. Is anyone having issues or doing anything special to switch to snapshot presets via a midi controller? Anyone else having this issue with a Switch Dr? Upgraded from an M9 and didn't have any issues at all. Super bummed right now. Thanks

Anyone have any slick tricks for doing a boosted lead channel, when using a hi gain tube amp with lots of gain on the rhythm patch? Basically looking for the best way to keep the same basic sound as my rhythm, but boost the crap out of the volume for solos... E

Does anyone know if you can add an external footswitch (I'm using a Digitech FS3X) to control effects? For example, I have a looper in my bank, but I rarely use it live. What I wanted to do was have the looper assigned to my FS3X and have it not show on the HX until I press one of the buttons on the FS3X. That way, it doesn't take up 1 of the 6 screens, but when I press the FS3X, it would activate the looper and then give me access to the looper functionality and screens. Basically, I just want an external footswitch to be able to turn the looper screen on and off. Any help?

Hi all. So I've been told by Line 6 support to return my HX Effects for a replacement as they think the -28 boot error is in fact a hardware issue. So I've spent a lot of time programming multiple presets all with 4 snapshots for key parts of songs, I don't want to lose ll that work so I've run a backup using HX Edit which seemed to work fine but after reading a report that a restore does not restore snapshot settings I'm concerned. Can anybody please tell me if they have had success restoring to the HX Effects and retained all settings including snapshots? Thanks

The tuner is great, extremely accurate and sensitive... Offsets are a great feature, but why only one? As a multi instrumentalist, I would love to be able to store custom tuning offsets in each patch. My electric patch(es) can be standard My acoustic patch(es) can have an acoustic offset loaded My dobro patch(es) can have my dobro offsets loaded My mandolin patch(es) can have my mandolin offsets loaded My banjo patch(es) can have my banjo offsets loaded. Take this a little further, and expand the offsets to a full chromatic tuner, not just 6 strings. That would take away any limitations.

I asked about this in a more multiple choice question earlier, and got a "what are *you* doing" type response... After using onstage the past couple weeks, and trying to isolate what could be the cause, it's a bigger issue that I'm nowhere closer to solving on my own. I've been noticing random snaps, cracks, and pops when switching off the tuner on HX Effects. This is barely noticeable at bedroom levels, but when I play out at a moderate club level (not quite "loud") sometimes those random pops are... everyone in the joint is turning and looking where the huge bang came from. And if it's a patch with a delay or big reverb; it's just that much bigger a noise. One thing I've noticed mucking about with it at home: If I play a note and hold the Tap Tempo button to engage the tuner, when I turn it off, no matter how long it was since I played that note, it will ring for a second when turning the tuner back off. This occurs with delays and reverbs set for Trails on or off, or with reverb or delay off. Most of my working presets are 4 cable method - Distortion -> Wah -> Preamp loop -> Modulation -> Delay -> Reverb -> solo boost switch Gain. Some of them I try A - B paths for reverb and delay. I have one other where I have an EHX C9 Organ box in loop 2 where I put Guitar on a path all left and the "Organ" all right. I think the HX has a much better tuner than the one on my G70 wireless, and I prefer using my pedalboard than clamping something silly looking on my headstock, but I currently can't trust my HX Effects tuner or use it as a convenient set-break mute, because I don't know what will come out of my speakers when I re-engage the unit to play.

First of all, there should be a separate forum for HX effects. Next a feature request: Sharing presets from HELIX to HX effects (or vice versa). Since all the effects are the same, I imagine someone could just use a helix preset (minus the amp model) and be still able to use the patch/preset ? I haven't played with the editor yet - or the lack of one to try to see what would happen.

I love my new HX Effects but my back hurts from leaning down to edit it (nice job on the interface though). I'm an old man and hope to see HX Edit software before I pass on. Possible? I heard Spring 2018, which is where we are. Hello? Hello? McFly? Thank you.

Hi all - Sorry if this has been covered and I just can't find it. Here's what I want to do: I play violin and guitar with two different bands. In both cases, I'd like to use the HX FX as my main FX processor for both instruments - in one case, running a violin through it (and out to a DI) and an electric guitar in (and out to my amp). I'd do the same for my other band, except instead of running out to an amp I'd use an acoustic guitar which I'd send to a DI as well. I should mention that I don't ever need to be able to play both at once - meaning, ideally, when I'm using one instrument the other will be muted. So my question is: What's the best way to do this? Can I plug two different instruments into the two main inputs and just route each one through its own set of FX, then out one side or the other of the main outs? Can I set the violin to only come out output L, with the guitar only coming out of output R (Basically "in L, out L" and "in R, out R")? Or do I need to stick an A/B pedal before the HX FX to switch between two instruments and have them both run through the mono main input (L)? I guess I'm just not 100% clear on the routing options just based on reading the manual. Another option I thought of was to stick a Send block into a violin-specific preset bank and run out of a Send output to a violin DI with nothing passing through to the main output (which would go to my amp). I'm just not totally sure how the output of Sends compares to the main outputs - is there a downside to doing it this way that I'm not seeing (besides having to use up one of my blocks for the Send)? If anyone has suggestions as to the smartest way for me to set this up, I'm all ears. One more thing - I need both instruments to be running through the tuner, so I'm guessing I can't just run the violin through a return or something. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I've had the HX Effects for a couple weeks and have already built a nice pedalboard around it and used it for some shows. I'm using a Boss EV-5 as an expression pedal in EXP-1 (currently nothing in the second, plan to use it for amp control as I expand the board and its uses) I see that in the manual the default for wah and whammy effects are an auto engage for the EXP-1 jack. If I add any wah to a preset and turn it on, the Expression pedal works it fine, but the auto engage feature doesn't work, and I'm not finding in the manual or in the menus where to turn that off or on or how to adjust this. So far I've had to use one of the six footswitches to turn off and on the wah, jump to the expression to use it, then go back to the footswitch to turn it off again. Not ideal. Since I've been able to do build presets, multifunction control assignments, snapshots, and just about everything else I've wanted to so far fairly quickly by RTFM... I like to think my reading comprehension is fair. What do I need to do to set and adjust the auto engage feature for wah pedal?

Just opened the box today hoping that this little toy will be "just what the doctor ordered". I've been running my effects through my effects loop on my Two Rock Gainmaster 35 for about 6 years (just delay, verb and chorus). I'd like the HX to replace those and also give some me additional effects either before or after the amp. I know it can "do it", but whenever I plug it in according the set up, my tone is sucked out of the amp and the volume drops lots. I read the manual and there is a statement that says this: "There are even templates to get you started". Elsewhere in the manual they say to look for "4CM" on effects. I understand the concept of the 4 cable method, but can't figure out the routing inside of the HX. So a few questions: 1. Where are the templates? 2. Do I need to put something in the front of my pedal chain so the delay, verb, etc will run through my effects loop on the amp? 3. What am I missing? I know it is obvious but glad I didn't take apart my old pedal board just yet. Thanks in advance. Tony

Hi, Bass Player here... I just received my HX Effects and am having trouble integrating my only two "other" pedals, (an Eventide H9, and an EHX Superego Plus). I want to run each of these in stereo but the HX only has two mono send/receive busses. My floorboard also has a Soundcraft Notepad 8fx mixer that I was thinking of plugging the H9 into 3/4 and the EHX into 5/6, but sending to them discretely using the send busses of the HX (not utilizing the returns). There's also a Boss RC-3 looper connected to tape in/tape out. The downside I see is that I won't be able to rout the H9 or the EHX to anything else after the output stage, but the upside is that I should be able to hear them both with stereo imaging. Can any of you think of any other options?... Am I thinking reasonably about this? Thanks and great to be on board here, Marty

Just curious if there's any way to see an effect's current BPM in the scribble strip. The name is nice but I'd love to use that space for some more pertinent info. If not, is there a way to see BPM without leaning down and touching the tap button? Thanks.

Hey there, New to Helix stuff w/ an HX Effects I picked up last weekend. Loving a lot about this but really finding delay programming frustrating coming from a DD-500 (and Timeline as well). I'm trying to find out of if it's a pedal limitation and/or user error. It's a new "ecosystem" for me so maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I'm a BPM guy, so is my drummer, hell...so is my whole band. The BPM integration on this pedal seems extremely lacking with a reliance on just MS. I've found BPM can be set using the Tap switch w/ subdivisions but I'm having issues with certain delays just not recognizing the BPM set here (Elephant Man, Brigade). The manual was really disappointing in terms of information on individual effects info, for example: Delay time ranges. For example: I set an Elephant Man patch to 110 BPM - 1/1 works fine as do faster speeds however If I set the BPM down to 60 for longer delay times not only does it not do 60bpm but it doesn't change at all. I understand the delay may have a time limitation, but what's odd is that if I go into the patch and manually reduce time via MS it does slow down to those speeds (or close to). Other Issue I'm having: If I use what seems to be the only method to use BPM on this pedal (tap tempo and note subdivision) - that means I can't have ANY other tap effects that I want to freely tap tempos with in that preset or "board" because as soon as that happens the delays are all out of time. Is there a way to set a delay tempo via the tap/bpm and subdivisions and then LOCK that tempo? Thanks! This thing sounds great, but delays are a huge part of why I got this and not really liking the tempo options.
