  1. Hey y'all! So I'm a young aspiring guitarist and I'm looking to completely revamp my pedal board with an HX Effects, Slash MXR Octave Fuzz, Dunlop Volume X Mini, and a few other pedals I already have. Ive been looking for info on how to hook up the HX Effects and haven't found much answering my question Can I just run my HX Effects through the system like a normal pedal? my train of thought was Tuner-> Dunlop volume-> MXR Octave Fuzz-> HX Effects-> Hall of fame reverb-> Maybe a Boss Digital delay-> out to amp. now my question is can I use the HX Effects as a normal pedal (Having it go in a normal signal chain and just having flow through the pedals and not to the amp and back) or do I have to do the 4 cable method where I run the guitar through my normal pedals then to the amp then to the HX Effects and back to the amp? Much help would be appreciated! -Jack!
  2. Title says: Make FX loop great again. They should! Here is how: Having experiented a bit with the FX loop and trying a lot of things. There is so much wrong with it. You wanna have a FXloop for on of your Gainpedals infront of your digital amp? Noise You wanna have a OD Pedal before your digital Distortion Pedal which also is in front of your digital Amp? Even more Noise You wanna extend your HX (Stomp or Effekts probally) with hardware Pedals cause your preset its allready packed full? wakwaaaak Your FXloop also requiers Blocks which takes space from your overall preset. Sadly, if you think you can "upgrade" the capabilitys of your effects of stomp your mistaken. Idk what it is with Send/return or Loop blocks. pretty sure it wont take much DSP away from anything. We have come so far. Since Update 3.0 we enjoy 8 instead of 6 Block in HX Stomp and Effects. Fix to get more out of the HX: Whouldnt it be great to get Send/Return or Loop Blocks there own sort of thing? Like the Signal Split. We can allready to it, it takes no block. I whould love to see Line6 implement 1 free FXLoop or 1 free set of Send/Return in non Helix hardware with limited Blocks. Just like the Signal Split. --- And that noise.... Its pretty much unusable if you plan on using an Amp within HX and use Hardware OD oder SD. Digital OD and SD are fine. And thats really a shame. Not even the best Gate Pedal with 4cm will help you with that. Since it only takes to block with no hardware signal chain attached to throw white noise at you like nothing else. Can we talk also about FXLoop in Stereo. If you plan on using the Stereo Loop with a Splitter cable to get FX L and R at the same time... yea, you get that. But one Signal chain will be left, the other right. Giving terrible phasing problems. Pretty much unusable that way. Fix for phasing?: Why is it that you dont have a option to make both inputs Mono instead of one R one L stereo. So you can have both of your signalchains but the just produce mono sound. Ofc you want that stereo stuff for delays or something like that. But the raw signal with OD. we dont need stereo for that. Point 1 and 2 combined "Fix": Imagin not having a Send/Return/Loop Right and Left in the first place. Why not having just Send/Return/Loop and let us choose L/R in the setting of the block. That whould mean if you want to create a Preset with 2 different loops, Left and right, you can change them via Snapshot or Button. you have your X Pedal active and wanna switch snapshots and get your X Pedal off the Signalchain and add your Y Pedal. If its an option to select which Channel you wanna have its an instand win. Leave the Trials in peace and you can have 2 signal chains for the price of one. Overall i love my Stomp. But im just so disapointed of the FXloop. Its just a hassle and you litterly gain nothing from it. You actually loose more then you gain, since you cant adress normal pedals via Midi and can only have 1 loop at a time despite having the capabilitys for having 2. I know this phasing issue is discussed for years. And i know that nobody from Line6 will even read this thread. but damn i wish they whould cause i feel like after making such great upgrades to the software, this whould turn the HX from 10 to 11. If you have workarrounds for that. feel free to tell me. I have my setup working now, but again, i have to delete Blocks to get Room for FXloop which doesnt really do a lot. I simply cannot have stacks ODs or SD in a chain even with a Gate cause of the all present whitenoise which comes even when you dont have a pedal plugged in. And i cant use the Stereo send and L/R return to its fullest cause of the phasing and Stereo issues. PS: All that stuff whould also make extremly good sense considering the new ishly HX One. If you want to expand HX Stomp or Effects via HX One, you encounter the exact problems. Noise - FXloop blocks ... Fixing them or just adjusting the function of FXloops/Send/Return means HX One becomes actually more viable as an upgrade option. listen to me Line6 :P
  3. I suppose the title says it all? Is it possible to do channel changing via the amp switching jack, is the gist of it. The effects switching is really redundant since the HX would be the way to go with this combination. I get that if the CX100 was used instead of the CX60, I could use MIDI, but I think the size of that amp might be too big for this scenario.
  4. Attached is the specific pictured gear I'm using. I was doing the four cable method just with the boost and HX Effects together, but I wanted to have the best possible noise suppressor pedal both in front and after the preamp because this amp makes a lot of noise.
  5. Hello, afters years with my trusty PodGo, I just bought a used HX Effects. Brilliant pedal, works well but I'm stuck when it comes to sending midi signals. I'm trying to use Control center in snapshot mode to send a program change to a ToneX pedal. I've seen a lot of people doing it with HXFX or HX Stomp, it's as simple as chosing the midi channel, setting the CC00 as the bank then chosing the program. Yet it fails changing anything on the destination pedal ( I'm plugged with a brand new 5 pin cable in the midi in of ToneX from HXFX's midi out). What I've tried : -> Turning MIDI PC Tx to OFF and also with Rx set to Midi -> changing midi channels on both pedals / setting HXFX to be "omni" -> Resetting the HXFX pedal to factory settings Basically I tried a lot midi setups in the HX. Am I missing something in the settings? Is there a way (some king of diagnostic?) to know the midi port is healthy? I'm of course investigating to see if the problem comes from the destination pedal too. Thanks in advance for your attention, My current setup :
  6. I just got a HX Effects (firmware 3.71) and was excited to use the Ext Amp jack to control the Vibrato and Reverb effects of my Fender Deluxe Reverb. The amp uses a standard Fender 1/4" TRS dual footswitch to control the Vibrato and Reverb, and the footswitch included with the amp works fine. I actually have two Deluxe Reverbs, so I was hoping to get this going on both amps, one from each jack! However for the benefit of the first test, I tried a single amp, but had no luck! I set both pedal jacks to Amp mode in Global Settings > Prefs . I then connected one of them to my amp's footswitch jack with a TRS cable. The act of plugging in the TRS cable automatically turns on the Vibrato effect on the amp, and unplugging it turns the effect off. However there's just no way to program it to turn on and off with a command. There's also no way to control the reverb. I tried all the various settings for tips, ring, latch, etc. Nothing worked. Is this not possible?!
  7. Hi all. I know they are barely out, but wondering if anyone has tried using the amp/pedal switches (and snapshots/command center) on the HX Effects to toggle channels on the new Boss IR-2? In theory it looks like it should work, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a Boss unit yet. If it's like the switching on other Boss pedals with an external switch input, I assume it would be fine? Thoughts welcome!
  8. Hi, Always keen for a healthy discussion, and would love to also hear from Line 6 experts like @Digital_Igloo ! Its always so exciting when Line 6 drops a new update, reading through the new features and updates, etc., But as a HX Effects user, I have noticed that every update brings less and less for HXFX users. I am loving what Line 6 is doing in the Helix range, new amps and cabs, etc., and often I wonder… wouldn’t it be wonderful if HXFX could offer some amps and cabs? My setup has changed over the years, where I was using an amp, but now I go direct with Simplifier for amp models, but using the HXFX for its IR capability. I love my HXFX, for me it’s the perfect size and form factor, and often I think it’d be amazing to use some amp modelling on board the HXFX, and I don’t want to downsize to a HX Stomp or upsize to the big Helix range. Understanding that Line 6 is maybe not able to comment or indicate future ambitions for the HX Effects, do you guys think that we will see some new effects and capability/functionality come to the HXFX or has the attention moved away to all the other HX/Helix products instead? There’s lots of exciting new FX coming out to the wider (non Line 6) market, some from Strymon with new reverbs, lots of other quirky and cool mod/filter effects, I wonder if Line 6 could explore expanding the effects range inspired by what’s coming to the market. As a caveat, I think the HXFX is awesome, and we should purchase a unit based on its current capability, not on potential future capability, and even if Line 6 never added anything further to the unit, I’d still love it and recommend it. Always keen to hear everyone’s thoughts!
  9. Dear all, I've assigned a Midi CC to a block to control it from my midi controller. Is there a way to send out the state when loading a patch, snapshot or just simply toggling the state of the block on the HX effects itself? I would like the controller to know the current state so it can display and send out the right toggle command. Assigning a CC toggle to a footswitch won't work, as the HX Effects only has 6 foot switches and 9 blocks. The CC toggle and block state can also get out-of-sync if you switch the block state but not the CC state. It would be nice if the state of the parameter with a CC bound to it would also send out the value set by the HX Effects. Cheers! Harold
  10. I created a bunch of patches for an upcoming gig (first time live with the HX FX). Some patches are merely a clean sound with a compressor, others add a pitch shifter to that, and yet others are more complex with a Fuzz, Overdrive and Distortion. As most of the individual effects have one or more parameters to set their individual volume (or level or drive), not all effects have the same overall volume level. I want to save the sound engineer from a heart attack each time i change presets so i was wondering if there's an easy way to set the same output volume for all those patches. Now i attempt to balance the parameters of the different effects separately, but i'm afraid it's not good enough like that. Any suggestions? TIA PS this is for an active bass guitar, and I don't use any expression pedals.
  11. Hi everybody. As I've mentioned in the title of this topic, after the last update of my Hx Effects unit I cannot download any of the customtone patchs and the following message appears in HX Edit - Failed to import setlist file (invalid or unrecognized file (code -8101). Anyone who knows where is the problem...?
  12. I've been using my HX Effects live quite a bit and love it. The modulation and delay effects are pristine. No noise and they just do what they are supposed to. The distortion/overdrive patches have a huge 60 cycle hum. I had a similar problem on the same board with my old M5, but it wasn't quite as loud. Before I jump into the great ground loop rabbit hole, could the placement on my board be the issue? Here's how it's set up: Dunlop volume pedal > Vox Wah > Xotic BB+ > Vertex UltraPhonix > HX Effects > to amp Could that chain cause the problem? Right now, I use it a lot with a TrueTone OneSpot power supply. I've tried reversing polarity (unplug & replug swapped 180) and it doesn't help. I have heard, recently, an Ebtech hum eliminator will help, but have yet to try that. I also have a PedalSnake set up to run it when I have the time to set that up. The power supply is similar, but from another manufacturer. I use the same power supply from my rack thru the PedalSnake. Same issues. Overdrive & distortion patches have hum... nothing else does. I have not modified the output volumes, so they are as when it came out of the box. Thanks in advance.
  13. My Helix is my main MIDI controller and my HX Effects is on MIDI channel 1. I'm trying to get the Helix and the HX Effect's snapshots to coordinate. I can set the CC 69 messages to change the HX Effect's snapshots on the Helix's stomp switches that works fine. But if I try to set them to the Instant slots (so they send with the snapshot change), the HX Effects seems to ignore the CC messages. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
  14. I'm curious if anyone has tried using the effects from a POD HD500X into an HX Stomp? I seem to remember that the POD had pretty good effects overall. I have one sitting around collecting dust and you can't get much for them on Reverb. I guess it would be a poor man's HX Effects and if it works it would help out with the DSP. Any settings adjustments needed from using it straight into an amp?
  15. Hello Line 6 Collaborative Community! Got an HX EFFECTS Windows 10 64bit 32Gbs RAM Last June 2021 I, tried to use FX Edit - but kept getting error -8212. Wouldn't load the patches to edit - I could see the patch names though... Support said to upgrade FW to 2.82? but couldn't get HX Updater to back up my patches - kept having errors. I did it anyway... Still couldn't get HX Edit to load my patches - same error -8212. Support said I needed to factory reset my system. Didn't have the heart to lose my patches, so I left it alone. Tried again this week (June 2022) - same problem, but I upgraded the FW to 3.15 - same -8212 error code Decided to bite the bullet and reset the system to factory (Power On+ FS6 + Tuner) - watched it reset and watched my patches GO BYE BYE STILL GOT THE SAME ERROR -8212 Any ideas or solutions that other folks have found? Thanks in advance
  16. I am considering buying an HX Effects that I would like to connect to my amp using the 4-cable method. Reading through user reviews, some complain about tone degradation and noise issues, particularly when using a 'hot' preamp in a loop of the HX Effects. I also noticed that most of these critical reviews were from 2018/2019, shortly after the unit was introduced. Have these issues been mitigated in the meantime? Are there still noise / tone degradation issues with 2022 units and firmware?
  17. I am considering buying a HX Effects unit for use with a Mesa Boogie Mk IV using the 4-cable method, an I need some pre-sales advice. Currently I'm using a Lexicon MPX-G2 multi-effects processor that sits in a rack immediately underneath the amp so that all connecting cables have lengths of 1 m or less - that works fine. Since the HX Effects is a floor unit, I am a bit concerned about what will happen to my tone when cables become longer, as they inevitably will. Since I assume that many of you will be in the same boat with me, what is your experience? (How much / in how far) does this affect the tone of the guitar? Is there audible degradation in terms of dynamics or 'richness'? I am particularly concerned with the pre-gain part of the circuit, i.e., with the cable that goes from the HX Effects Send to the input of the amp are there noise issues to be expected, and how do you deal with them? Is an (external) buffer needed, or is there a buffer already built into the HX Effects? What types / lengths of cables have you been using successfully in this setting? Maybe a bit off my own topic: Which expression pedals (except those from Line 6) work well with the unit? Which pot impedance should be used? Specifically, has anyone got experience with the Ernie Ball VP pedals together with the HX Effects?
  18. Hello, In a stereo setup, I need to use mono effects on one side only. Let's say this last position reverb : The only option I found is this one, but I have to use one normal output and one send output, that seems strange to me, with opposite pan. Nevertheless, the stereo effects works normally and this last reverb is only on one amp. Is there a way to modify the outputs to set two "Main L/R" and then balanced them in their settings ? Thanks a lot.
  19. dear community, I would urgently need instructions on how to switch the channels on my Marshall JVM 410 using individual presets of the HX Effects. Thank you in advance ;)
  20. I have an HX Effects and I'm looking for a way to use one expression pedal to control both wah and whammy, and to be able to switch between them, without using one of the 6 assignable footswitches (because they are already assigned to other things). I understand now that HX Effects doesn't support an external footswitch (only external pedals) - pity, it would have solved my problem! So I have the following idea - has anyone ever tried it?: - Both wah and whammy in the signal path, both on, assigned to exp pedals 1 and 2. - Using an A/B switch, connect exp pedal 1 output to A and exp pedal 2 output to B. Output from A/B switch to the one expression pedal. Would that work? Any advice welcome!
  21. I have happily been using my HX Effects every week for the last 2 years. Today the display started playing up. I am greeted with white noise on the scribble strips during boot up about 50% of the time, and odd graphical corruption on an intermittent basis. I've fully reset and restored my backup several times; this hasn't fixed it unfortunately. Has anyone got any insight into what may be causing this? Otherwise the pedal works fine and I even played live with it today and used the tuner despite not being able to see the screen. The power supply I've been using for the last 2 years is a Voodolabs Pedal Power Digital. Unfortunately I bought a discounted HX Effects that didn't come with a power supply so I can't swap it out. I am willing to purchase a Line 6 DC-3H but would appreciate any feedback first in case this is a waste of money and the corrupted display is a sign of permanent damage. Many thanks.
  22. Hi. I am using my HX effects unit to switch channels and FX loop on my Marshall DSL20 head. It has a TRS cable foot switch. The tip switches the channel and the ring switches the FX loop. I’ve successfully got it to do all the switching, however I’ve found the amp is expecting the reverse of the signal from the HX effects. Meaning that when the ring is NOT shorted to the sleeve, the FX loop is on, and when the tip is NOT shorted to the sleeve the ultra gain channel is on. This means the lights and logic on the HX effects are doing the reverse of what you’d expect based on the amp. Is there any way to reverse the logic of the ext amp outputs so that when I activate the switch the TRS cable is “un-shorted”, or alternatively to have an LED change colour instead of dimming when a switch is bypassed. Currently I’ve got it set up as snapshots to avoid the problem, but that’s a bit of a pain because I need 4 switches instead of 2 to cover all the combinations.
  23. Hi all, Ive seen some info on this pedal but I just wanted to find out if the expression pedal toe switch will work on the HX effects unit?? If not I might as well get one of the Nektar ones or something similar? Just wondering what peoples set ups are for using the hx effects with expression pedals, would love to use the toe switch but doesnt seem like Its possible??
  24. I just bought the HX Effects and noticed that the delays and reverbs cut a lot from my dry signal past the 50% mark of the Mix control. Is there a way to get the Wet signal to be a bit louder without eating up my clean signal? Kind of what a Boss pedal or an analog pedal would do. Thank you!
  25. Can someone tell me/show me how to get Billy Sheehans tone from this video or from the song "addicted to that rush." All help will be much appreciated!!!
