  1. Greetings oh wise ones - new to the whole helix effects thing and was just wondering if anyone had any bright ideas on how to set up the following for maximum effect: 2 x Amps - neither with FX loops Boss Tube Amp Expander (TAE) DAW inputs At the moment I have HX Effects set up via 4CM using the TAE and one amp in the standard config. I then have HX Effects output 2 going straight into the front end of amp 2. This seems to give me true(ish) stereo out of the amps as I can hear delays etc jumping about and sounds great. I have not tried any fancy routing in the HX just a simple FX loop block before the stereo effects in the loop of the TAE The two TAE direct outputs are sent out (with an IR in the TAE "rig") to my DAW - sounds great , has all the effects, but is definitely mono The TAE has it's own in built FX (Stereo) which I can also add - Reverb, Delay, Compression and EQ/Boost I suppose what I am really asking is does anyone know of a way to get the stereo HX effects to work with the TAE direct into my DAW or is good old mono from the HX plus the stereo TAE effects where I am at ? Could just mic up the cabs.... (I have) Answers on a postcard or sealed envelope please ! Cheers C
  2. What is the actual maximum power draw of the HX Effects?
  3. So I've been trying to make the JVM and HX Effects work for a week now with no success. I've got some experience setting up gear and I can't get rid of phasing issues when running the HX Effects through my JVM Loop. The amp has two loops. One series and one programmable series/parallel with a Mix knob. Phasing happens on both (fairly expected from the parallel one). I'm doing the 4 cable method as suggested by the L6 manual using a minimal setup. Guitar - HX 4cm - JVM and have one FX Loop block with a Horizon Gate and a Simple Delay after it. It's not about maxing out the mix on the delay thought I have messed with the mix settings both on the amp and the HX. The phasing is there even with no effects activated and it happens on both loops. The only setup that doesn't create phasing is HX Effects in the Series JVM Loop without the 4 cable method, which sucks because I mostly need it for the front-end effects but Gate/Delay are a must for me in the post section. Surprisingly I didn't experience the problems most people have with this combination. Setting up the channel switching was easy and I've got minimal noise. Anyone of you guys had the same issue and found a fix for it?
  4. Hi guys This may be a trivial question to most here, but hopefully someone can help me out. After many, many months of thinking about moving over to Line6 for my effects from individual pedals I finally made the jump and bought a HX Effects unit, now I’m still only scratching the surface of it but I’m impressed so far. The only thing that is bugging me is that when I bought the HX Effects, the power lead only came with a European two pin adapter to click onto the power supply, which is a bit of a pain when here in Ireland we use a Three pin socket. I thought that these power supplies usually come with a few different connections so as you can find the one that suits your country. I saw on different forums etc. people are just saying to go onto Amazon and buy a third party power supply but I’d rather just use the one that came with it. So after a very long winded post I was just wondering if anyone knows where, if possible, I could find a Three pin adapter that fits the power supply that came with the HX Effects. Thanks for any help guys.
  5. Hi all, This is more of a heads up, as I have a resolution (of sorts) to my issue. Like many, I made the jump recently from F/W 2.92 to 3.00. I'm not normally an early adopter but recent firmware updates had gone well and so I deviced to have a leap of faith. The update itself went without hitch, but I soon ran into issues whilst using a 1SW Looper (the problem may also relate to the 6SW, etc., but I've not tested). As a relative newbie to playing guitar, my setup is incredibly simple, so nothing I'm doing is likely to be taxing the HX Effects unit too heavily. In fact, in this paticular case my setup simply included a Bass Octaver, Analog Flanger, Minotaur, Plate Reverb, LA Studio Compressor and a single switch looper (all on a single path). My problem is that recording a 4 bar loop causes the HX effects to hang. I'm unable to end the loop and all switches and buttons cease to function; my only option being to power off the device. I thought it may be an issue carried over from previous settings, so I performed a factory reset. Initially, I restored (only) my Presets, but as the problem persisted, I conducted a second factory reset and setup the pedals fresh. No difference, the unit still hangs. I've managed to resolve my issue by reverting to 2.92 (which works perfectly), but this isn't ideal. I can't think what else to try at this stage and/or I'm not sure what additional information is needed to help troubleshoot. Anyway, as I said, this is more of a heads up (for others who may be suffering the same issue). If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Also, I'm happy to provide additional information and/or conduct tests if it will prove beneficial. Regards Jack.

  7. Hello.I own a 50w Jet City Amp which has a line level effects loop (+4db).Will HX effects 4cable method work with it?I have attached a pdf with amp schematics. Thanks in advance. jet-city_jca50h_sch.pdf
  8. Trying to see if there is a way to trigger playback of a prerecorded sound bite using the HX Effects controls or loop inputs. Ang ideas how this could be achieved?
  9. Hey L6 Forums, New HX Effects user here. Really liking it so far! I do have a question about Snapshots, though: On my main preset, I have 4 Snapshots set up - Clean Electric, Acoustic Sim, Overdrive, and Fuzz. I have the Clean Electric Snapshot set up as the base tone of the preset, and therefore it's not assigned to a footswitch. I'm trying to use the other 3 snapshots to swap in and out different sounds with one touch. Is there a way to set the Acoustic Sim, Overdrive and Fuzz snapshots to bypass automatically when I press the footswitch for one of the other Snpshots? I'm looking to avoid hitting the snapshot footswitch a second time, only to have it bypass the snapshot I wanted to change back to. I still want the release function on the switches for Acoustic, Overdrive and Fuzz to take me back to my Clean Electric snapshot, though. Is this possible?
  10. If loading a third-party IR (impulse response) into HX Edit or POD Go Edit results in an out of memory condition, it is likely the source file is too large or contains too many samples. Open a DAW (digital audio workstation) e.g. Cubase, Logic, Reaper, Ableton, etc., or other capable audio recording/editing software, such as Audacity, and import the IR file into a new session/project. Trim the IR so that it is no more than 2,048 samples in length. Most DAWs have a ruler that you can set to beats, minutes/seconds, or samples. Set it to 'samples' in order to make the most accurate time selection. After the file has been trimmed, you're ready to export/bounce the new IR file. Use the item render/export in your DAW and follow these guidelines to ensure compatibility: 24-bit / 48k Mono (1 channel) Must be WAV file format
  11. Hi ...can anyone offer an explanation or link to answer this... I have not found a simple answer that addresses this. Many of the videos about 2.90 are Helix based and although they share software my interface and user experience looks at least to me very different in actual practice. Specifically I am confused about the 2.90 update that is supposed to let you assign snapshots to any of the 6 switches and in doing so allowing you to use the "bank" switches for other things as well....If the four snapshots are "subsets" of a given preset which is composed of 9 blocks, then is the point of this new feature that any parameter or effect "within" the preset in question can be applied to those two switches? Including the Looper function? Or can this somehow allow us to assign 2 additional effects in stomp mode to these snapshots? Any help is appreciated thank you!
  12. Hi people, Just wondered if anyone could advise me on the new Snapshot/preset footswitch functions. i pretty much use my HX exclusively in snapshot mode when gigging. So now, being able to use snapshots in stomp mode, what would be the benefits, or versatility of using snapshots in this way? Thanks.
  13. Hey guys, so was wondering, has anyone successfully paired a tube preamp pedal (Vai Legacy Preamp) with their HX. If so, please Obi-wan, you're my only hope!! Im hoping to go through the HX and slave the power section of my amp. Thanks guys!
  14. Can someone explain me how all the parameters of the autofilter work? or any page where i can read it would be good too
  15. First of all, there should be a separate forum for HX effects. Next a feature request: Sharing presets from HELIX to HX effects (or vice versa). Since all the effects are the same, I imagine someone could just use a helix preset (minus the amp model) and be still able to use the patch/preset ? I haven't played with the editor yet - or the lack of one to try to see what would happen.
  16. Recently came across this issue. I tried setting up my HX Effects with a Decibel 11 Switch Doctor to switch presets and snapshots on the HX Effects via the Switch Doctor. Every time I tried to switch to a different preset, it would automatically switch to the tuner when selecting a new preset. Also, I couldn't get it to switch snapshots correctly using Midi CC messages. As far as I can tell, all my settings are correct. Is anyone having issues or doing anything special to switch to snapshot presets via a midi controller? Anyone else having this issue with a Switch Dr? Upgraded from an M9 and didn't have any issues at all. Super bummed right now. Thanks
  17. Hey all, Two weeks into using the HX Effects, my first ever multi-effects pedal in 30 years of playing. Loving it so far, particularity its small form factor. My only complaint is the tuner. It is fantastic, but I don't like that it is assigned to the TAP button requiring you to hold it down for what is probably only a second to activate, but in a fast paced gig environment it feels like ten seconds. I've done a bit of a search and there doesn't appear to be any way around this but thought I'd check on here if anyone has a tip. I personally don't use the tap function so I would be happy if it could be disabled so that hitting the button would immediately turn on the tuner. Otherwise I may have to start bringing my Peterson, but that's a pain. Thank you to anyone who may have a work around.
  18. Hi, I recently got my hands on a Line HX Effects. I have been experimenting with the unit in a 4CM configuration with my various tube amps. I have also paid attention to setting the various signals levels (Intput, Output, Send/Return) to Inst or Line. Moreover, I have kept all the effects to 0db. Despite this, I having a lot of problem getting the overall volume levels of my setup under control. In general, my problem is that the overall volume is TOO loud. In experiencing the following symptoms : 1. Overall sound level of the setup is too loud with the HX Effects. For the same gain/volume setting on my amp, I get a big jump in volume difference when I include the HX effects; 2. In 4CM configuration, if I bypass the FX loop block, effectively bypassing the preamp of my amp (according to my understanding), I get a huge volume increase; 3. When changing effects in my basic linear signal flow, some of the effects create huge volume increases (especially those from the pitch block). My amps are : Mesa Boogie Lonestar special (Buffered Series FX Loop), Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 (Buffered Series FX Loop) and Mesa Boogie Roadster (Series DX Loop). So the Lonestar special has a volumes and one master out. The Roadster has a volumes and one master out. My understanding is the the HX Effects should be unity gain, so I don't understand what is happening. So my questions are : 1. How can I tell if the Send/Return should be INST or LINE level ? If I understand correctly, the Send Level must be INST because it is going into the front of the AMP (4cm). Now, if the the Return is set to INST but my amp sends LINE level, the signal shoud be too loud. 2. How can I tell if the RETURN of the amp requires INT or LINE ? If I understand correctly, the AMP requires INST and I send it LINE, the volume of the amp will be too loud. 3. Many people say that (even with buffered FX loops) the wiring should be lest then 25 feets in order to avoid tone problems. Now, with a 4CM, isn't it almost impossible to avoid such a situation unless you are only using 5 feets wires but that isn't really practical. 4. Can somebody explain why certain effects are louder then others ? Especially those in the pitch block (ex. Octaver and OSC, etc.) ? 5. Can somebody explain the best steps to follow to get all the volumes under control... especially considering that the FX Loop itself has signal level settings. I'm trying to stay with unity gain. Thank you, James
  19. Hello all, I'm really hoping that somebody can help me order my pedalboard (and my thoughts on this!). I've been going through so many various ways in my head to hook these pedals up that I'm getting very lost and confused. Here's the situation - I have the following pedals, and I would like to know how best to connect these up whilst taking best advantage of them all if possible. RevivalDrive Preamp, Torpedo CAB M (Poweramp/Cab), Line 6 HX Effects, Strymon Volante That's it! 4 pedals and I'm so lost, but it's because there's so much flexibility. Do I put the Preamp and Cab in one loop into the HX effects? That would give me the option of moving them around and putting drives and effects from the HX pre/post which I want. Then what about the Volante? I don't want that in a loop as it would lose the stereo functionality, so do I go from the main out on the HX effects into Volante, then I can use the main outs from that? It means it is always at the end of the chain but I can live with that I think. As an aside, I'd like to use headphones occasionally - does anyone know if the stereo outs from the Volante (or any pedal I guess) could function as a headphone out? I can get an adapter that does L/R to 1/4 inch female so I can get it to fit, just don't know if it would sound good. Normally I'd be going to monitors. Anyway - How would you guys wire these up? Part of me is thinking that the Torpedao CAB M is redundant as there is an IR loader in the HX Effects... But the Torpedo is so cool and I want to take advantage of it. Thanks guys
  20. Hi! I was thinking of buying a looper (switching between multiple pedals to avoid tapdancing) but came across the HX effects. This is my setup: Orange TH30 Polytuner Digitech Whammy Fuzz pedal Distortion pedal Octaver pedal Hall of fame reverb pedal (might get rid of this one if the HX reverbs are good) What I'm after is being able to control each pedal individually and create snapshots for turning on/off multiple pedals at once. I also want to be able to control the channel of the amp on the snapshots. Is this doable? what is the maximum amount of pedals I can plug into the unit? I'm really new to this whole thing so my knowledge is pretty basic, but I know you can do the 4 Cable method to be able to have HX reverb/delays after the amp distortion. Kind regards, Jeff
  21. After powering up the unit, it froze to the last saved situation. The buttons didn't work anymore. So it's not possible to go switch to and from BANK/PEDAL modes. I'm in version 2.60 I solved the frozen state by switching off and on, while pressing the 2 bottom-right buttons. It seems it resets the presets to the factory presets. So I lost the presets. It seems at a given moment a preset was corrupted preventing the unit to work properly. As far as I backup my presets regularly, this should not be a real problem. But I'm afraid of what would happens during a gig when I don't have a PC to restore backups ? Do some of you have any knowledge of what to do OR not do to avoid this frozen state ?
  22. I'm using the hx stomp in as a send/return block in the hxfx so allt the effects are placed in the hxfx. Also using Midi from hxfx out to hx stomp in. What I'm aiming at though is from hxfx:s snapshot mode, switching amp models but I don't get it to work as I want it to. If I'm on preset 001(01A) on the hxfx, the same preset is set in the hx stomp. I want to be able to have whatever preset on the hx stomp from whatever preset on the hxfx. What bothers me is that if I want to change snapshot on the hxfx and snapshot or preset on the hx stomp it doesn't work because the hx stomp is only using the preset that corresponds to the one the hxfx is on. Any help would be very appreciated. Cheers from Sweden / Kristoffer
  23. Hey I just had a thought the other day about possibly creating a preamp through the HX EFFECTS & am wondering if anyone else has tried this?.. OD/DS Pedal ---> EQ Pedal ---> IR Cabinet Sim The idea is the the OD/DS gives u the preamp while the EQ pedal helps you shape the sound a bit more since the first pedal is limited and than add an IR cab to simulate the desired cabinet.
  24. Hi, wondered if anyone had any suggestions. So I'm using the HX effects for bass into a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes 500 amp. The amp has an intelligent footswitch for going between clean, vintage microtubes circuit, B3K circuit, and mute (4 buttons). When trying to use an effects loop on the HX effects through the loop send/return on the amp, it is bypassing the footswitch somehow, so I can't change between the onboard distortions or mute the amp. This doesn't happen with 2 cable method (no loop) and didn't happen using individual effects in the loop... any ideas?
  25. Hi I have a problem with my HX effects. It is popping from preset to preset but not on all of them. My amp is a EVH 5150iii. I am using 4cm and I am switching the amp via midi (BankPC) It is not doing it on all the B presets. I think that is a bit strange. Is there any thing I can do to make this go away? Or what am I doing wrong? Please help me solve this problem :-)
