  1. Ive found that some of my patches have a very noticable volume differences. Some are much more quiet. Has anyone else had this problem? On the quiet patches, i have even raised every effect to max level. It gets slightly louder, but still not as loud as my other patches. Some even have almost identical effects blocks. Have you noticed any certain blocks that cause a volume drop no matter what? Any advice?
  2. I apologize if this has been asked or posted before, I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. I assume this is a signal flow issue but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'm new to HX effects so I don't have a handle on some things yet. I added a Pitch Wham controlled by Exp 1 after the first 6 effects, so I don't have turn it on with a switch. Works great. Set it 100% mix for a Tom Morello type Whammy. However, I also have delay assigned to a footswitch and it's before the PitchWham - and it's changing the pitch on the delayed signal after the original note stops. If I hit a short note, and whammy it up +12, great. But there's also the delayed note that is affected when I move the pedal back to heel down. Think Audioslave Like a Stone, which is what I'm trying to accomplish, where the delayed note is not affected after the original note stops. Is there something I can do to allow the HX to affect the original note and not the delayed note?
  3. I use a toggle to switch between a compressor and a light overdrive (Timmy). They both assign to the toggle no problem, and the toggle works fine. BUT - the LED is inconsistent as to which state I should be in. I give the toggle a custom name of "Light OD" so the thought is when the LED is off the compressor is engaged and when it is on the Overdrive is engaged. The problem is... the HX has a mind of it's own which state it will show. I get it working right, save it. Come back to that patch later and it shows "OFF" yet the overdrive is the one engaged. I know that by touching the toggle I can show the states of the two effects... but I would think after saving the patch it should always RECALL the way I saved it. For the record, I am not using snapshots. Any idea's why it is behaving this way? The HX Effects is up to date with firmware version 2.54 EDIT TO ADD (this is one of my post further down the thread, but may get missed)
  4. Hi guys... I am trying to record some songs using an audio interface and that's what I am doing: Interface input A -> Vox AC15C2 mic'd with Shure SM57 Interface input B -> comes from the R (out) from HX effects I would like to use an IR just in the R channel, not in both. In Helix floor and LT I could do it easily but in HX Effects, seems that the L+R outs are mixed. Is there a way to use a IR just for the R channel, insteade both at the same time? Thanks !
  5. Hello! I'm owner of the Line6 HX Effects. I love the device, it has everything I need (so far) and the sound quality is excelent! Since a couple of days I also own a Kemper Profiling Amp and I was wondering if I could use the HX FX (command center) to "control" the Kemper. What I basicly want is: hit a preset on the HX and switch to a certain amp in conjunction with certain effects of the HX FX. So my questions are: Is it possible what I want? And if so, how do I approach this? Any further tips and tricks on "HX & Kemper" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading! Mike
  6. This thing doesn't come with many and I'm sure there are some talented peeps out there that have made some good ones...Should be easy to share with the editor, right?
  7. So I got my HX Effects this weekend, before I did any updates I began to mess with it to get the hang for programming it. I use a small Midi controlled 4 loop unit for a few stomp boxes, so I tried programming that in. I was really happy how easy it was, setting up the default state in the instant commands, easy, assigning a loop to a footswitch, easy, custom name, easy everything worked great.... Fast forward to after I did the latest firmware update, everything works the same way EXCEPT for one small thing, when I press the footswitch the midi command is assigned to the custom name changes to the edit screen like if I touched the button with my finger to edit the settings and the custom name does not come back until I press another switch. Is this a setting I have to change or is this something that the new Firmware mucked up?
  8. Hi everybody. I've just noticed that the IR loader block in Hx Effects is only a mono effect. So, if you feed it with stereo signal you will get a mono output with phasing/artifacts issues on sound. This is very bad, expecially if you need a stereo image (i.e. double pitch effect, ping pong delay effect).. all the stereo effects are definetely useless if your last block is a IR loader. Of course you can put a second IR loader in path B, but in this way you have to use 2 IR loaders at the same time and you are very limiteded in effects routing. I wonder why Line6 didn't implement a stereo IR loader block.. it would be a killer feature as it would solve a large number of problems.
  9. Hello.I own a 50w Jet City Amp which has a line level effects loop (+4db).Will HX effects 4cable method work with it?I have attached a pdf with amp schematics. Thanks in advance. jet-city_jca50h_sch.pdf
  10. first i'm Korean(and i'm living in Korea) and please understand my bad english ability...... i got my hx effects today morning and first try firmware update and fair and try other method and succese (i put usb cable to my PC's mainboard socket) now my hx version is 2.54 but any press buttons not working (save/home/menu/all knob's press... except left right arrow buttons before update it work well...) i can't do anything............ how can i fix it?????
  11. Hi All. First post here. Have read lots of good stuff on here since buying my HX a month or so ago. I do love it and don't miss my Boss ES-5 setup with Mobius and other assorted pedals at all! I'm pretty good with MIDI (from my 90's days when all my synths/effects were outboard!) but have some observations and thoughts on MIDI instant command/Snapshot/Preset interactions that I'd be interested in feedback on. To my mind, it should (logically) work thus (and I'm only dealing with PC messages here...): In Preset mode, you set up your MIDI messages using the Instants in the Command Centre. These would be the default MIDI messages for the whole preset. Within a snapshot, you should be able to change the instant, or have it default to the ‘Preset’ one set up above either by having no instant at all, or a "preset default" option. I use Midi (for my H9 and Elektron Analog Drive) and snapshots (I use one preset per song and the snapshots for the different sounds within a song) and it doesn’t seem to work in a consistent way for me. For instance : I set up one snapshot as a default for a song and copy the snapshot to make changes for different sections. The Instants do not copy across. If I remove an instant from a snapshot (as the snapshot doesn't need to change any MIDI values) the Instant MIDI command is removed totally across all snapshots and the preset. I'm quite sure this is just me not fully understanding how Instants and Snapshots interact! Anyone got any definitive answers on how Snapshot Instant’s work. I’ve fudged my way through (checking each snapshot’s Instant values) and have the unit setup as I want now but would like to now the official line on how it is supposed to work for future programming. Ta, David.
  12. I put my HX Effects in the loop of my HD500 and use the HD as an I/O, Midi Controller and a few extra effects. Overall it works great, but I want to use the volume pedal block in the HX Effects (it has the taper option)... that is where the problem comes in. I have no problem assigning the EXP1 from my HD to the volume pedal block on the HX... but there is too much latency to make it usable, somewhere around 250ms or so which is not very responsive. Patch changes are instant, as are snapshot changes. I use a short midi cable (3') and have tried two different cables with the same results. In the meantime I just setup a volume pedal block in the HD but I've never liked it because it's linear... I prefer the option of using the Audio (LOG) taper. I could also use an external expression pedal - that seems to work fine, but I'm trying to avoid extra pieces. So - this isn't a big deal as I can work around it... but if anyone has any suggestions about the latency I'd be willing to give it a shot.
  13. I'm trying to set up my rig and was wondering if it was possible to run the 7 cable method on am amplifier with two effect loops? I'm no pro... Just play at church and some Christian rock here and there... Just enjoy having nice things... This is my floor board so far... -Ibanez JSA5 -Ibanez AZ224 BIG -Kramer1995 Strat (Fender Noiseless Pickups) -HX Effects Boss DS1 Mission Engineering Expression Pedals -SKB Stage Five FloorBoard -Fender Mustang V Half Stack -Fender Champion 100
  14. I asked about this in a more multiple choice question earlier, and got a "what are *you* doing" type response... After using onstage the past couple weeks, and trying to isolate what could be the cause, it's a bigger issue that I'm nowhere closer to solving on my own. I've been noticing random snaps, cracks, and pops when switching off the tuner on HX Effects. This is barely noticeable at bedroom levels, but when I play out at a moderate club level (not quite "loud") sometimes those random pops are... everyone in the joint is turning and looking where the huge bang came from. And if it's a patch with a delay or big reverb; it's just that much bigger a noise. One thing I've noticed mucking about with it at home: If I play a note and hold the Tap Tempo button to engage the tuner, when I turn it off, no matter how long it was since I played that note, it will ring for a second when turning the tuner back off. This occurs with delays and reverbs set for Trails on or off, or with reverb or delay off. Most of my working presets are 4 cable method - Distortion -> Wah -> Preamp loop -> Modulation -> Delay -> Reverb -> solo boost switch Gain. Some of them I try A - B paths for reverb and delay. I have one other where I have an EHX C9 Organ box in loop 2 where I put Guitar on a path all left and the "Organ" all right. I think the HX has a much better tuner than the one on my G70 wireless, and I prefer using my pedalboard than clamping something silly looking on my headstock, but I currently can't trust my HX Effects tuner or use it as a convenient set-break mute, because I don't know what will come out of my speakers when I re-engage the unit to play.

  16. Does anyone know if you can add an external footswitch (I'm using a Digitech FS3X) to control effects? For example, I have a looper in my bank, but I rarely use it live. What I wanted to do was have the looper assigned to my FS3X and have it not show on the HX until I press one of the buttons on the FS3X. That way, it doesn't take up 1 of the 6 screens, but when I press the FS3X, it would activate the looper and then give me access to the looper functionality and screens. Basically, I just want an external footswitch to be able to turn the looper screen on and off. Any help?
  17. Hi all. So I've been told by Line 6 support to return my HX Effects for a replacement as they think the -28 boot error is in fact a hardware issue. So I've spent a lot of time programming multiple presets all with 4 snapshots for key parts of songs, I don't want to lose ll that work so I've run a backup using HX Edit which seemed to work fine but after reading a report that a restore does not restore snapshot settings I'm concerned. Can anybody please tell me if they have had success restoring to the HX Effects and retained all settings including snapshots? Thanks
  18. The tuner is great, extremely accurate and sensitive... Offsets are a great feature, but why only one? As a multi instrumentalist, I would love to be able to store custom tuning offsets in each patch. My electric patch(es) can be standard My acoustic patch(es) can have an acoustic offset loaded My dobro patch(es) can have my dobro offsets loaded My mandolin patch(es) can have my mandolin offsets loaded My banjo patch(es) can have my banjo offsets loaded. Take this a little further, and expand the offsets to a full chromatic tuner, not just 6 strings. That would take away any limitations.
  19. Hi all - Sorry if this has been covered and I just can't find it. Here's what I want to do: I play violin and guitar with two different bands. In both cases, I'd like to use the HX FX as my main FX processor for both instruments - in one case, running a violin through it (and out to a DI) and an electric guitar in (and out to my amp). I'd do the same for my other band, except instead of running out to an amp I'd use an acoustic guitar which I'd send to a DI as well. I should mention that I don't ever need to be able to play both at once - meaning, ideally, when I'm using one instrument the other will be muted. So my question is: What's the best way to do this? Can I plug two different instruments into the two main inputs and just route each one through its own set of FX, then out one side or the other of the main outs? Can I set the violin to only come out output L, with the guitar only coming out of output R (Basically "in L, out L" and "in R, out R")? Or do I need to stick an A/B pedal before the HX FX to switch between two instruments and have them both run through the mono main input (L)? I guess I'm just not 100% clear on the routing options just based on reading the manual. Another option I thought of was to stick a Send block into a violin-specific preset bank and run out of a Send output to a violin DI with nothing passing through to the main output (which would go to my amp). I'm just not totally sure how the output of Sends compares to the main outputs - is there a downside to doing it this way that I'm not seeing (besides having to use up one of my blocks for the Send)? If anyone has suggestions as to the smartest way for me to set this up, I'm all ears. One more thing - I need both instruments to be running through the tuner, so I'm guessing I can't just run the violin through a return or something. Thanks in advance!

    HX Effects to H9

Can't get my HX to control the H9 expression via midi. I also can't get the H9 to receive midi clock from the HX. Anybody doing this already? Thanks, Marty
  21. Hi, I've had the HX Effects for a couple weeks and have already built a nice pedalboard around it and used it for some shows. I'm using a Boss EV-5 as an expression pedal in EXP-1 (currently nothing in the second, plan to use it for amp control as I expand the board and its uses) I see that in the manual the default for wah and whammy effects are an auto engage for the EXP-1 jack. If I add any wah to a preset and turn it on, the Expression pedal works it fine, but the auto engage feature doesn't work, and I'm not finding in the manual or in the menus where to turn that off or on or how to adjust this. So far I've had to use one of the six footswitches to turn off and on the wah, jump to the expression to use it, then go back to the footswitch to turn it off again. Not ideal. Since I've been able to do build presets, multifunction control assignments, snapshots, and just about everything else I've wanted to so far fairly quickly by RTFM... I like to think my reading comprehension is fair. What do I need to do to set and adjust the auto engage feature for wah pedal?
  22. Hi, Bass Player here... I just received my HX Effects and am having trouble integrating my only two "other" pedals, (an Eventide H9, and an EHX Superego Plus). I want to run each of these in stereo but the HX only has two mono send/receive busses. My floorboard also has a Soundcraft Notepad 8fx mixer that I was thinking of plugging the H9 into 3/4 and the EHX into 5/6, but sending to them discretely using the send busses of the HX (not utilizing the returns). There's also a Boss RC-3 looper connected to tape in/tape out. The downside I see is that I won't be able to rout the H9 or the EHX to anything else after the output stage, but the upside is that I should be able to hear them both with stereo imaging. Can any of you think of any other options?... Am I thinking reasonably about this? Thanks and great to be on board here, Marty
  23. Just curious if there's any way to see an effect's current BPM in the scribble strip. The name is nice but I'd love to use that space for some more pertinent info. If not, is there a way to see BPM without leaning down and touching the tap button? Thanks.
  24. Hey there, New to Helix stuff w/ an HX Effects I picked up last weekend. Loving a lot about this but really finding delay programming frustrating coming from a DD-500 (and Timeline as well). I'm trying to find out of if it's a pedal limitation and/or user error. It's a new "ecosystem" for me so maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I'm a BPM guy, so is my drummer, hell...so is my whole band. The BPM integration on this pedal seems extremely lacking with a reliance on just MS. I've found BPM can be set using the Tap switch w/ subdivisions but I'm having issues with certain delays just not recognizing the BPM set here (Elephant Man, Brigade). The manual was really disappointing in terms of information on individual effects info, for example: Delay time ranges. For example: I set an Elephant Man patch to 110 BPM - 1/1 works fine as do faster speeds however If I set the BPM down to 60 for longer delay times not only does it not do 60bpm but it doesn't change at all. I understand the delay may have a time limitation, but what's odd is that if I go into the patch and manually reduce time via MS it does slow down to those speeds (or close to). Other Issue I'm having: If I use what seems to be the only method to use BPM on this pedal (tap tempo and note subdivision) - that means I can't have ANY other tap effects that I want to freely tap tempos with in that preset or "board" because as soon as that happens the delays are all out of time. Is there a way to set a delay tempo via the tap/bpm and subdivisions and then LOCK that tempo? Thanks! This thing sounds great, but delays are a huge part of why I got this and not really liking the tempo options.
