  1. Trying to set up my HX to work as an interface. I'm using Reaper on Windows 8. I keep getting this error code showing up. Have tried redownloading the driver and using ASIO4All, but nothing seems to fix it. The error says "error loading ASIO driver" Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do to fix it?

    HX Stomp FAQ

HX STOMP FAQ That thing looks small. Is it small? Considering the amount of hardware inside, HX Stomp is practically microscopic—its footprint is smaller than a Line 6 M5 pedal, and pretty much identical to that of a three-switch Strymon. We spent a stupid amount of time and effort cramming massive power into a tiny chassis. It’ll even fit into the small top pocket on Helix Backpack. Helix Backpack was out in 2016. That pocket was designed for HX Stomp all along? Maaayybe? Okay, we agree that it’s small, but what IS it? At the risk of hyperbole, HX Stomp may be the most powerful and flexible compact stompbox ever made. It can replace multiple pedals on your board (so you have room for more!). It can act as the ultimate fly or backup guitar/bass rig—except it may provide enough simultaneous amps and effects to be your main guitar/bass rig. It can be used to expand the DSP/model set of existing pro modelers; throw it in your Kemper, Fractal, or Atomic’s effects loop to add all Helix amps and effects. It’s also a world-class portable guitar recording interface with programmable impedance circuits, zero-latency monitoring, multichannel re-amping, and headphone amp. (One might suggest it’s the perfect front end for the Helix Native plug-in.) HX Stomp can become whatever you want it to be. How does it sound compared to Helix? Aside from the maximum number of simultaneous effects and amps—six blocks total—HX Stomp sounds identical to Helix. They have the same effects, amps, cabs, IR loading, 24-bit/192kHz A/D/A converters, analog impedance circuits, and patented guitar ins with 123dB of dynamic range. HX Effects is the same price. How is HX Stomp different? HX Effects is designed to be the centerpiece of your pedalboard, giving you full control over individual Line 6 effects, your MIDI-equipped pedals, and your amp switching. HX Stomp is a programmable amps+cabs/IRs+effects stompbox that seamlessly integrates into a wide variety of environments and applications. TL;DR: HX Effects is for amp and pedalboard guys, HX Stomp is for modeling guys… but amp and pedalboard guys might love it too! What ins and outs does it have? Left/Mono and Right 1/4” Inputs—switchable between instrument and line for use with passive guitars/basses, active guitars/basses, keyboards, synths, drum machines, electric nose flutes, and more Left/Mono and Right 1/4” Outputs—balanced/unbalanced for feeding amps, FRFR speakers, or the front-of-house mixer. 1/4" outputs are 600-Ohms. 1/4" FX out is 1k-Ohm. Stereo 1/4” TRS Send—with a Y cable, two separate mono effects loops (or one stereo effects loop) can be accommodated Left/Mono and Right 1/4” Returns—globally switchable to act as an always-on Aux In for monitoring mixers or MP3 players 1/4” stereo headphone out 1/4” EXP 1/2, FS4/5 Input—can accommodate two expression pedals, two additional footswitches, one of each, or the Mission Helix pedal with toe switch (sold on our US shop here) MIDI In and Out/Thru USB—for recording to/jamming along with Macs, PCs, iPads, and iPhones. (iPads and iPhones require the Apple Camera Connection Kit.) HX Stomp can feed both stereo paths into your computer—along with dry versions for reamping—simultaneously DC In Wait. How did you fit all that into something the size of two Tube Screamers? Black sparkle magic. I hate editing little pedals with screens. How easy is HX Stomp to use? Very. WATCH THESE VIDEOS (around 10 minutes total) and you’ll be a master: line6.com/meet-hx-stomp The full manual is up too: line6.com/support/manuals/hxstomp How’s the build quality? Won’t you mess with the knobs when you stomp on it? HX Stomp is built into a sturdy die-cast aluminum alloy case with the same footswitches and metal knobs from Helix. If you’re still worried, note that while in Play view, the four knobs closest to the switches are disabled. How can I do anything with only three switches? You can do a lot with three switches, but if you really need more, two additional external switches can be connected. HX Stomp also responds to a wide variety of MIDI commands, and any block or parameter can learn (or be manually assigned to) an incoming CC message. Plus, from the main Play view, you can press <PAGE/PAGE> or an external footswitch to select one of four footswitch modes on the fly. Can it do 4-Cable Method? Yes. After hooking everything up, just add an FX Loop block to your tone; any blocks before the FX Loop will appear before your real amp’s preamp and any blocks after the FX Loop will appear between your real amp’s preamp and power amp sections. There are even 4-Cable Method presets to get you started. (Note the “4CM” presets won’t pass audio unless everything’s hooked up correctly!) Does HX Stomp have true analog bypass? Yes. You may choose either analog bypass or DSP bypass with trails. To bypass everything press both the upper and lower knobs together (or assign a footswitch to All Bypass). Is there a Looper? HX Stomp includes a mono or stereo 1 Switch Looper that can be placed anywhere in the signal flow. Is there an editor? Yes. It uses the same HX Edit application as Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, and HX Effects, except with 126 presets and a simplified signal flow. Just update both HX Stomp’s firmware and HX Edit to 2.70. Both should be available very soon. Can HX Stomp load Helix Floor, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, or HX Effects presets? As long as the preset has six or fewer blocks, you can use the latest version of HX Edit (2.70, out very soon) to access both devices at once and copy and paste blocks back and forth. Rebuilding a Helix preset in HX Stomp shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds. Can HX Stomp presets be loaded into the Helix Native plug-in? Not currently, but individual blocks can be copied and pasted between HX Edit 2.70 and Helix Native 1.70. Again, rebuilding an HX Stomp preset in Helix Native shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds. I know a bunch of us wanted something smaller than Helix LT, but did you have to make it THAT small? < disapproving side-eye > From the beginning, we understood that for HX Stomp to see the widest ocean of adopters (pedalboard guitarists, traveling guitarists, bassists, buskers, keyboardists, producers, fans of desktop PODs, curious Pedalboards of Doom members who post anti-modeling memes, etc.), it needed to be almost obnoxiously portable and convenient. That meant squeezing it into a pedal, not a slightly smaller traditional floor modeler—with a tough-as-nails chassis—but never sacrificing any sound quality or what it means to be Helix/HX. Yeah, but that honkin’ huge DC-3G power supply is like a third the size of the entire pedal! The power supply is large, yes. To ensure the same signal integrity of its bigger brothers, we needed a burly power supply. That said, here’s a far-from-comprehensive list of third-party power supplies that we’ve tested with HX Stomp: Strymon Zuma R300—Appears to work fine when doubling up TWO 9V outputs (-140dBr) Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 4x4—Appears to work fine when doubling up TWO 9V outputs (-124dBr) IMPORTANT NOTE #1: HX Stomp’s sophisticated circuitry pulls notably more than your average pedal. Hence, we used a DC IN jack with a larger center pin to sort of disincentivize people from throwing whatever at it. The stock DC cables that come with the power supplies listed above will NOT fit. Note that Eventide does the exact same thing with their H9. IMPORTANT NOTE #2: YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. Feel free to use this FAQ as a starting point, but Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Stomp with any third-party power supplies. That is, if someone writes "B-b-but Line 6 said I could use [power supply X!]," someone will hopefully refer them to this post where I make it perfectly clear that we only *officially* support our DC-3G. Can HX Stomp run on batteries? No. The chassis gets a bit warm after a while. Is that normal? Yes. HX Stomp isn’t a budget modeler—it’s a hardcore, professional solution with four circuit boards (one with 12 layers) crammed with serious analog and digital circuitry that happens to have been meticulously squeezed into a tiny chassis. It’s gonna put off a bit of heat. Totally normal. Why do certain presets not pass any audio, or are muted? Presets labeled 4CM may not pass audio since the FX Loop block is turned on in the preset. Without the proper cable connections, the preset will not provide any output. The FX Loop block can be manually bypassed, or taken out of the preset. Please see the manual for more info on connections with 4 cable method. If you connect all the jacks on the sides, it kinda looks like an octopus. The most commonly used jacks are all on the back. Besides, octopuses are awesome. Have you seen them open jars? Excuse me, but the plural of octopus is octopi. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=plural+of+octopus Dimensions/weight? Including the jacks, 7”w x 5”d x 2.5”h; 1.75 lbs. What’s the price? $599.99 US street. When is HX Stomp available? Now.
  3. Is there a way to import to an HX Stomp XL my M9 settings? And even my Atomic Firebox (at least the IRs)? I have relied on my M9 for countless tours and shows, and always had a backup board all set... Atomic Firebox direct to PA, Line 6 M9, a v1.1 OCD, and a couple others. I LOVE the sounds I get from that setup, but I needed to size down to fit as carry-on for fly-dates. NOW, I'm trying to make this happen. Is there ANY WAY to get the settings for some of the effects on my presets off of my M9 and into the HX Edit? AND, how about the Atomic (at least the IRs I bought for it, as transferring the amp models doesn't seem to be a logical option. If anyone can please help, it would be greatly appreciated!!!!
  4. This is very odd...when I connect my HX Stomp to my Hotone Siva Boogie mini-amp, I get no sound at all?? This is my signal chain: Guitar > (mono In) HX Stomp (mono Out) > (Input) Hotone amp > Speaker. Pretty basic stuff. If I keep the same exact signal chain and just replace the HX Stomp with any random FX pedal, it works fine!? As far as HX Stomp settings, they're the same exact settings I use successfully with my Seymour Duncan Power Stage 170. All I did is replace the Power Stage 170 with Hotone amp so...what could be wrong?? Thx in advance!
  5. Hi, I'm a new user of HX Stomp. I've added HX stomp to my pedalboard to remove cables and pedals and have a backup in case of faul of my real amp. I've connected HX with 4cable method to the amp. Signal path is: Guitar -> Buffer -> PolyTune -> HX L IN -> Overdive BLOCK -> FX SEND -> AMP INPUT -> AMP SEND -> HX RETURN -> DELAY BLOCK -> HX OUT L -> AMP RETURN Ok..all works, no problem. My dream and goal is to put all the connection to HX stomp one time for managing different situation and work on preset blocks to make the goal. For example 1) FOH + Power Amp (or Amp Head return) out at the same time 2) 4 cable method 3) Only FOH 4) Only AMP Input ( so no AMP send/return, no delay, reverb etc..only guitar and overdrive) I was able to manage the point 2 and 4, (when i had single pedals). Overdrive delay and booster was 3 different pedals. OD goes direct into input and Delay/Booster into one pedal loop (switchable). the scope is to ON/OFF the Amp FX loop so i can choose to connect all the cable if i need the send/return or not or insert delay/boot at the same time with one single switch and stuff like that. Any suggestion for HX stomp? It's impossible to do this? I hope i was clear. Thank you. Daniele
  6. Hey guys, I'm trying out different approaches to create a patch which allows me to connect to both FOH and an onstage amp (via FX return). One of the approaches I am trying is: MAIN L/R -> DIST -> AMP -> SPLIT -> DELAY & REVERB IN PARALLEL -> MERGE -> SEND L -> IR -> EQ -> MAIN L/R Main output L is going to FOH and Send L is going into FX Return of an EVH 5150 I've seen this work in a lot of videos and posts here but when I do this there is a very loud noise that comes from my speaker cabinet, at earsplitting loud levels. I don't know if its feedback or what. The FX Return of the amp is fine by itself, ive tried 4CM and that works perfectly fine. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
  7. I hope this hasn't been dealt with elsewhere but I can't find it so here we go. Having changed the layout of the pedalboard in which I use the HX Stomp as a brain, I wanted to set it up in order to have FS1 switch between two snapshots which I have done once again in the past. To achieve the desired setting I used command center and stomp mode and, while I got what I wanted, the footswitch light stays off regardless of which Snapshot I'm on. I'm pretty sure when I did that in the past I had the light turning on white, did something change with one of the updates? Currently I'm on 3.71.
  8. Hello, I recently thought about an idea that could increase the flexibility and functionality of the HX Stomp. I posted the idea on the Idea Scale. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suppor for the idea if you like it. Here is the link to the post on the Idea Scale: https://line6.ideascale.com/c/idea/103088 And here is the idea itself: Adding a LOOPER MODE as a footswitch mode to the HX Stomp would be cool. It could be accessible as other modes or via MIDI (0=Stomp, 1=Scroll, 2=Preset, 3=Snapshot, 4=Next footswitch mode, 5=Previous footswitch mode, 6=LOOPER MODE). In this mode, you could have the 3 footswitches on the Stomp dedicated to the looper functions of the 1-switch looper, expanding on its functionality to a full 6-switch looper: FS1 - REC/OVEDUB (long press UNDO) FS2 - PLAY/STOP (long press HALF SPEED) FS3 - PLAY ONCE (long press REVERSE) LINE 6 has introduced LOOPER MODES in the past (M9, POD HD-500X), so maybe it is possible with the Stomp as well. This would greatly expand the functionality of the Stomp in my opinion, since one could be more flexible with assigning the footswitches in STOMP MODE.
  9. I noticed that, after the 3.71 update, the 'PAGE Right' button on HX Stomp is no longer responding. 'PAGE Left' still works as normal. Pressing both 'Page Left + Right' also does not work anymore (probably because Page Right does not work). I have done a factory reset as suggested in the update procedure. Any suggestions?
  10. Hi! I'm having a big issue when using the fx loop of the HX Stomp XL, I'd like to put my delay and reverb pedals in the fx loop like in a real amp (between the pre amp and power amp), the closest to this is placing the fx loop block after the amp block and before the cab, but when I do this, I get a HUUUUGE tone loss, it's unusable, placing it after the cab gets extremely harsh and noisy but before the amp block I have no issue, but there's no point placing delay and reverb in front of a overdriven amp is you want a clear sound from them. I've tried with lots of pedals and cables and this always happens, even jumping the fx loop with a patch cable I get tone loss, not terrible, but noticeable. Is there a way to fix this? I've read a lot of topics about fx loop tone loss, but none pointed the placing of the block.
  11. Saw an ad for the Ampero Press Passive Volume / Expression Pedal. Has anyone tested this with hx stomp's expression 1/2 input? Wondering if it works well and as-well as Mission?
  12. Hello, I have an HX stomp. When I use it in snapshot mode if I want to go snap1 from snap2 or 3 I have to double click the footswitch. I get the same problem if I alter the footswitch assigned to snap1, tried factory settings, restart etc. All 3 foot switched work normally when not in snapshot mode. Also, when I hit the first snapshot there is an (E) appearing next to the preset name. Regards
  13. I started looking at getting HX stomp about 2 months ago, mainly to be able to try different amp and effects without having the need to actually buy each and one of them. After many YouTube videos (ahem, John Nathan Cordy), I decided to pull the trigger. For some reason, our local Yamaha/Line 6 retailer (Southeast Asia region) has not had any stocks of HX stomp for about a year now, so my only choice was to get one overseas. (I looked through some options in the used market, but not so much luck there) I sought different options, and I found that Sweetwater had a couple stocks of “Floor model” units, — more or less open box and slightly used but supposedly in good condition, for about 50 bucks off the retail price (plus, it’s cosmic gray which I really liked) I was trying to squeeze every dollar I can since I still have to pay for the forwarding service from the US to my country. After about 2.5 weeks. The unit came, complete with all of the paperwork, original usb cable and power supply. The unit is in great condition, even has the screen protector intact. I plug it in, played with it for a while, but I noticed that it does not have any of the default presets. So I tried to do a “factory reset”. After doing the factory reset, the screen got stuck on the boot logo screen. I also noticed that unit gets pretty warm. So I turn the unit off, try to wait a couple of seconds, restarted it, no luck. At this point I was starting to get worried that the unit is actually defective, but I was still trying to be optimistic. After about half an hour, I tried to turn it on again, and luckily, it worked! I was out of the woods — or so I thought. So I tried dialing in some tones, modifying presets, loading new presets, then after about half an hour of using the thing, it started to freeze — no sound will come out, the tap button LED still blinking, but 20 seconds later it will turn off and the UI will be completely unresponsive. I tried multiple resets, multiple firmware versions, but all of them seem to give me the same result — the unit just crashes as soon I try to modify any parameter or setting. *If I try to scroll through blocks fast enough like in this video — guaranteed the unit will crash. So I contacted Line 6 support, explained the issue, and their only conclusion is that it is a hardware issue and that the unit must be repaired / replaced. So I then contacted Sweetwater, and after a couple emails, they agreed to replace the item. Unfortunately, since I live outside the US, I’ll have to shoulder the costs of shipping it back. Another 3.5 weeks have passed, and today I received the replacement — a brand new, sealed unit. Hooray, I guess? I turn on the unit (default Firmware is 3.11.0), everything seemed okay and snappy — until I tried creating a new preset from scratch and adding and Amp block, the freaking thing crashed again, same with what I experienced with the first unit. I just tried flashing the latest 3.70.0 firmware, and I still does get stuck on the boot logo screen, unless I let it rest for about 15 minutes. It will turn back on, but it will exhibit the exact same issue as before of crashing whenever I try to change parameters or presets. One slightly different thing I noticed: it doesn’t get as hot as the previous unit, at least for now. I think I’m out of options right now, and seem to be stuck with a paperweight. I could still probably ship it back (again) and hope for a refund, but the hassle and cost of shipping an item back again sucks. TL;DR Bought an open box HX stomp, hardware seems to be defective. Got a brand new replacement, encountered the exact same issue.
  14. Hi everyone, I just don't understand how I should use the headphones out on my HX Stomp... I just want to play and listen to my guitar using the headphones outlet. My headphones (JBL E55BT, the cable seems to have 4 connectors: tip-ring-ring-sleeve) are plugged into an adapter 3.5mm jack female to 6.35mm jack male... see pic If I plug the adaptor all the way into the headphones out of the HX Stomp, I don't get any sound at all in the headphones... To get some sound, I have to retract the adaptor a few millimeters out from the headphones out... I guess my headphones are the issue Any hint ?! Thanks Vincent
  15. Is there any way to clear the 1 Switch Looper without having to listen to the beginning of the previously recorded content? I mean, there must be some way to do this, otherwise you could never even remotely use it in a live context. Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks and hacks.
  16. (Preset + IR in attachment) Hi all (some older members may know me as VTM, when i created metal patches for the good'ol podXT). Today a title which was fully recorded with the HX Stomp (all guitars and bass). This one is special as it allows the guitarist to also play a bass line at the same time, using a signal split and a pitch shifter ! A quick taste of this tone here : StrongBBBAAAACK.wav DIR_Deasil_REC.hlx
  17. Any bass players around here? Anyone tried pairing the HX Stomp with any darkglass pedals(specifically the big ones)? Does that even make any sense in regards to tone and usability? Is there any instance that such method is just repetitive and waste of money? I'm considering the HX Stomp for my home studio as overall guitar/bass gear to use and i need insights before i pull the trigger. Hope everyone's fine. Cheers!
  18. I’ve had both an hx stomp, and now a stomp xl, and my expression pedal is not working for swells. I plugged it into the expression 1/2 on the stomp, and then added a volume block to my patch. I tried putting my volume block at the beginning of my signal chain, after my amp, and at the very end. I also tried messing with the global settings. My issue is that it works for turning up and down my volume, but even though it’s before my reverb and delays, it shuts off the echoes and delays when I roll it back. I want the echoes and delay to continue decaying after I turn down my volume. Instead, it starts turning off my reverb and delay instantly as soon as I begin to roll back on my volume pedal. And this keeps happening regardless of where I put the volume block in my signal chain. I also turned up my decay time on my reverb block as far as it will go, and my volume block is still shutting off the decay. What do I need to do to get the volume block to work for swells?
  19. Hello, I am working on a MIDI controller with LED displays and I would like to use a backup file (format .hls) to retrieve the name and footswitch default status (i.e. what FS is on/off for each snapshot when I go to the preset or change snapshot etc). Since I don't change my setlist that frequently I am not trying to read directly from the unit but instead hard code the names and behaviors based on the .hls. I use a JSON parser to decode the .hls file and see there is a section called footswitch Here is an example (see full file in attachment) 'footswitch': {'dsp0': {'block0': {'@fs_enabled': True, '@fs_index': 5, '@fs_label': 'Volume ' 'Pedal', '@fs_ledcolor': 65408, '@fs_momentary': False, '@fs_primary': True}, 'block1': = etc.. Based on that, I originally assumed that each @fs_index would refer to a footswitch with @fs_enable for the status. However, that doesn't seem to be the case because I have a few setups with @fs_index > 5. To make things more confusing, I also see some presets without the 'footswitch' blocks though there are setup in the unit. Has anyone be able to understand how the hsl file work for the foot-switches assignment ? Any guidance on how to interpret the structure of this file ? Thank you. Pat. Test.txt
  20. Hi all, the Hx Stomp manual says that you can connect two expression pedals, or two footswitches. Does anyone know, can you connect one pedal and one switch at the same time?
  21. Hi everyone, On my HX Stomp XL, most presets included 4 snapshots. Sometimes, in order to work on my sounds, I like export a preset form my HX Stomp XL into my HX Stomp, which supports only 3 snapshots per preset. What happens then to the 4 snapshots ? Does the import process automatically get rid of the 4th snapshot and import snapshots 1-3 into the HX Stomp ? cheers Vincent
  22. Title basically. Ever since I have had the HXS, the tuner does not work if the HXS is connected to my computer in an interface mode. It is fine when connected via USB, but, NOT as an interface. The moment the computer recognizes it as an interface, the tuner goes bonkers and runs around not recognizing any note/pitch. Is this by design or should I be doing something to correct for this? Thanks.
  23. I'm quite new to using switchers So at the moment, I've got a HX Stomp XL, a wah pedal and the Boss ES-5. I want to use the ES-5 to switch pedals on and off in the stomp as well as the external wah pedal and also change patches. Could someone explain to me how I could do this? I've connected the wah into one loop of the ES 5 and connected the HX Stomp with MIDI cables to the ES 5 - not sure if this is correct?
  24. Hi everyone, I have a Pod Go with me and I was thinking to increase my "pedalboard" besides just Pod Go. I was wondering whether you could integrate Hx Stomp into Pod Go? Like instead of buying individual pedals, just buy a Hx Stomp and connect it to the Pod Go to function as "individual pedals". Does it affect the DSP in Pod Go? Was there any issues? Do the Hx Stomp and Pod Go function normally? I want to use Pod Go as the main pedal to control volume while Hx Stomp acts as extra pedals. I don't have a Hx Stomp so I can't try it myself. Am hoping someone could try and let me know is it feasible or its straight up stupid.
  25. Hi All, I'm new to using Amp models and IRs. I own a HX Stomp and i'm crazy about it. I've purchased some IRs from Celestion and Own Hammer and have used them with the amp sims that come with HX Stomp. They sound amazing. I'm very happy. My question is regarding the settings when importing IRs. I see there are two slots one labeled 1024 and the other for 2048. Also, the IR files that I have come in a variety of kHz, ms and Bit rate formats. For example, in my Celestion pack there is a choice of importing 200 ms files vs 500 ms files and within those folders, there are several options for kHz and Bit rates. I read page 27 of the HX Stomp Users Manual that states: "HX Edit updates the HX Stomp hardware's IR list automatically. HX Stomp can load and store up to 128 IRs at a time. 48kHz, 16-bit, mono, .WAV type IRs of up to 2,048 samples are natively supported; however, HX Edit lets you import IR .WAV files of different sample rate, bit depth, length and stereo format, and the app will convert these attributes automatically before sending to HX Stomp". -and- "The imported IR is automatically shortened (or lengthened) to 2,048 samples. You may optionally choose a 1,024-sample version from the model list to save DSP, which fades out the IR halfway through". Ok so, this may sound like stupid questions but like I said earlier, I'm new to all this and don't quite understand what Line 6 is saying. Can someone school me on what all this means and how I should select the IR files for importing to my HX Stomp and how it could effect my tone? Thank you.
