  1. So far I've been really happy with my HX Stomp sitting on my pedal board. I've identified three specific uses: 1.) Patches that just effects when fronting my Dr Z amps (no effects returns/sends). 2 with caveat.) Patches that have amps+cabs (or IR's) for Live or Direct recording. Caveat; With Direct recording, one doesn't need a lot of on-the-fly capability because you can tweak for specific performances. I initially loved the idea of "virtualizing" my existing pedal board in the Stomp. Meaning, running all my pedals through the FX loop... But what I quickly noticed was a.) all my pedals are mainly comp/od/dist and trem, and b.) in most cases they would sit in front of an amp at the beginning of the chain. Thus, I asked why am I tying up a block just to put pedals in virtual mode? I did like the dual functionality of the FX loop block because I also used the send level with my expression pedal as a volume pedal. I downloaded both Rhett Shull and Richie Castellano's HX Stomp patches and noticed, they don't use FX Loops... I also noticed that Rhett puts a Compressor as the last block, and it seems to really make a huge difference. It's not doing much compressing, as it is acting more as a limiter. That's what got me thinking of all this. So I rewired things and so far so good. Feel like I got another block back. I got darn good OD/Dist/Trem pedal, so unless I need to just bring the Stomp and nothing else, this seems to fit the bill. View shown here still shows me using the FX Loop
  2. I would love if the HX Stomp got the same possibilities as Eventide H9 and some Digitech processors (using fs3x), where you can connect three controllers through the stereo out utilizing tip, ring and tip/ring combined for a third pedal/expression. Will that ever happen on any HX firmware update?
  3. Hi, New HX Stomp user here! I'll try to ask this question as clearly as possible.... I know that there is an option to tell the HX Stomp to send a PC command when calling a preset to external midi devices. I was wondering if you could set specific PC commands, depending on WHICH preset you activate? I have a Soleman midi controller (4 footswitches), with many many songs already programmed. Out of 50 songs in our set, maybe 30 need a specific set of presets (combinations of drive pedals, delay/reverb and modulation), and those are already programmed in my Soleman with song sections (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.). The rest of the songs are more "generic" tones, for which I typically use a general set of presets that get me through many songs that "fit" these tones. Now, I would like to create a preset on the HX Stomp for each and every song we play, and have it send a PC message to the Soleman ONLY when I want it to recall the "panel preset" that I already previously programmed. Which would give me greater flexibility and more swtiches to control my other pedals that are midi, but not in the HX Stomp (SA Nemesis, SA Ventris, Whammy 5). Please help. This has been spinnning in my head for days now.....! Ps. My other solution was to do it the other way around, with the Soleman calling presets on the HX Stomp, but it'd mean that I would have to do a lot more programming, and it's not ideal, I think.
  4. Hey, i recently got my HX STOMP, I play bass (metal band) and the way i have it set it up in my preset is i split crossover the signal into a high freq and a low freq. I added a compressor into the low freq chain and thats it, and into the high freq i use distortion and a cab sim. My question is: Can i send a signal to my cab (without the cab sim) for stage fill and a signal with the cab sim on to the FOH (that would be my main sound) Thanks a lot!
  5. I own the HX Stomp and want to hire someone in the Chicago area who is very familiar with the Stomp or Helix line to assist me in setting up my guitar pedal board. This includes midi function, looping function, connecting with other FX units, and other ways to maximize the use of the HX/Helix. Chicago area is a must. Compensation to be discussed. Thank you
  6. Hi, I just got the HX Stomp (not new to L6 or Eleven Rack). Typically I just use L/R Analog 1/4" to my pre's to record direct. My ProTools rig and Mac are pretty old. Mac is running 10.7.5 (Lion) with ProTools 10 and Avid Factory 003. I see the HX Stomp in my Midi Devices, and ProTools can even record direct from the USB, so I got that. The only issue is all peripherals and monitors are running through the Factory 003. I am hoping to be able to use the Factory 003 to drive the monitors. Yes, I have selected ProTools Aggregate I/O as the playback engine, but to no avail. (I was hoping anything in the aggregate would get routed to PT), no such luck. Worse case scenario, I unplug the HX Stomp's ins /outs (as I'm using it on my pedal board) and run separate cables to my preamp, but that's a PIA. Just leaving a USB connected would have been ideal. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  7. I'm Sure this has been asked before. Just got my HX Stomp, great rig! I've incorporated it into my existing pedal board via 4 CM putting my pedals in the FX Loop. My output goes to either one of my Dr. Z amps. Right now I have the output going to my Dr. Z Carmen Ghia (which doesn't have an FX loop). I noticed the audio level dropped, I swapped cables and plugged guitar directly into the amp, nice and loud and bright, put everything back through the Stomp and signal dropped. Went in and changed the output from "Inst" to "Line", then I had unity (same signal from Stomp as guitar going direct to amp). But I know this can't be right... Line level is for low level signals like keyboards, etc.
  8. Hey there! so I wanted to ask, what are your experiences in the long run with the helix, especially in professional use/touring? Right now I am a Kemper + pedalboard player as well as the Boss GT 1000, but never got quite statisfied. But having tried the helix more recently I was very happy with the sounds I got as well as the flexibility. Since I am professionally gigging musician my question is: Did you have any major issues, freezing, parts breaking, errors during shows, total dropouts etc. I had a HX Stomp and a HX Effects, both times I had the bad luck of a faulty unit. Gear failure just must not happen for me. So what are the opinions on the helix of the touring musicians out here, since the helix has been out for a few years? (Sound, reliability, build quality) :)
  9. My DAWs (Reaper and Cakewalk) wont recognize HX stomp as an interface after big windows update about 3 days ago. I've already updated to v2.81 when it came out. I am doing recording next week and in need of a quick fix! I have to use the digital USB ins and outs in order to record DI signals as my interface only has 1 input.
  10. So I got a new HX Stomp last night, powered it up and plugged into my laptop (new MacBook Pro) and updated from 2.65 to 2.81 following all the instructions from line 6. The factory preset names disappeared, but the presets themselves stayed, and it’s been having problems freezing up and is having difficulty powering up all the way from being turned off. I have done the factory reset (holding switches 2 & 3 while powering up) and sometimes that helps but now I can’t even get it to do the factory reset. Seems to be powering on when I hold the “page right” (>) button while powering up. Anybody else having these issues?
  11. I noticed that the presenter of this video had a presence control for his Brit JM45 model. On my Stomp I only have bass mid and treble controls for tone. Are there more parameters offered on the floor Helix? Or is it a firmware difference? Thanks!
  12. Hi, As I find very difficult to control the volume (home usage) of Powercab 112Plus specially when placed at an angle using the back slide legs , what kinda of options I have? e.g. using a volume pedal (or expression pedal with midi) e.g. using the HX stomp (volume knob) with my foot without obviously affect the volume of the USB interface? e.g. using old blood noise express volume etc. only asking cause i don't know how volume pedals work (why would I add a boost maybe dirty my signal/sound) and yes I don't like the back control panel despite liking the clean front design.
  13. Hi all, I just setup all my presets on my new Hx Stomp, and it sounds great! However, when rehearsing, I noticed that there's quite a delay when switching presets. Is that normal? For me that would be a real show-stopper, we have quite a lot of songs where I need a clean sound for the intro, and then a heavy distortion from one moment to the other...
  14. what would be the best way to connect the boss rc3 as i am using the stomp with headphones. Any advice would be great Leigh
  15. I can't help but feel Line 6 missed out by not making the HX Stomp the size of the HX Effects and vice versa. The Stomp has amps and cabs with limited blocks. So if you want an amp and cab, you're left with 4 blocks. The Effects has the ability to Use a lot more blocks and load IRs, but no amps and cabs. So you have more switches and fx...but need to provide amps. It seems you'd want the extra blocks and buttons on the item you use as the all in one. The Stomp is being put on pedal boards as an effect pedal when it's supposed to be a baby Helix. I feel like they should make a stop the size of the HX Effects with all the blocks AND THE ROUTING. You can still stick it in a gig bag. If your gig bag won't hold the HX Effects size pedal, you need a better bag. It's not going to kill the sales of the full size Helix. People that want that will buy it. I just sold mine because I'm using the Kemper Stage for main gigs now. But for a small unit to throw in my bag for jams and rehearsals, I got the Stomp, and it sounds great, but it's so limited I'm tempted to sell it and go with an Atomic Amplifire 6. I dunno. I'm just hoping Line 6 considers this. I think the unit would be killer if it were basically an HX Effects with the amps and cabs added to it. Helix Mini, as it were.
  16. Hi, I just bought an HX Stomp. Downloaded my first IR and was trying them out. Just for fun, I cleared them to try new ones and now I'm having problem transferring IR to my unit, even the same IR i was already using. My HX Stomp stays "blocked" saying Transferring Data... and my soft is also blocked. I tried changing USB Ports, not using a hub, any possible combination and it's driving me crazy. I even reset everything and still doesn't work. Could it be a faulty unit? Thanks in advance for your help
  17. So I’m in a dilemma that I’m hoping someone can help me out with. I play in 2 metal bands that practice at separate rehearsal studios and I am looking for a second rig for the other studio so I was looking into getting the hx stomp or the helix lt but can’t decide which one would be a better fit. Since I play metal I don’t use a ton of effects but maybe if I had more options I would use them more. I mostly just use a high gain profile on my kemper, a clean profile and a lo-fi profile but to be honest the kemper Is not known for its effects so I was thinking the hx stomp might be cool to use as a second rig at the other studio and since it’s so portable I could use it with the kemper as well. The only issue is that since I use real cabinets I use power amps because my kemper is not powered and neither is the hx stomp but the hx stomp doesn’t have an xlr output to plug into my power amp however the helix lt does. Is there anyway hook the hx stomp up to my power amp without using an xlr? Would a 1/4 jack to xlr work? what I’m really getting down to is which one would you guys suggest for my situation the helix lt or the hx stomp? Would the hx stomp be a good stand alone rig if I can run it through a power amp or would it just be better to get the helix lt? Sorry for the long post. I wanted to try and be as specific as possible. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!
  18. I'm considering purchasing an HX stomp and know that it can do some of the scenarios I want to use with it but I'm not sure about this one. I could figure this out myself in a couple seconds if I owned the pedal but I'm trying to decide if this is possibly before I make the purchase. TLDR: Can you run an amp/cab block on one side of a signal chain only and allow the other to go out unprocessed. The point would be to run a stereo rig with a real amp on one side and a modeled amp on the other. I know that I can do this if I run my entire pedalboard as it exists into the HX stomp acting just as Amps - then I could plug one pedalboard output into the Stomp and one into my amp. Easy. However, I really want the HX stomp to be fully integrated with my pedalboard. I want to run my signal chain as Guitar > Comp > Drive Pedals > HX Stomp > Stomp FX Loop Send > Stereo Delay > Stereo Reverb > Stomp FX Loop Return > Pedalboard out If I do this it lets me add additional effects before or after my delay/reverb or put my delay/reverb after the amp sims if I'm running direct. It also lets me make patches with no amps to run my pedalboard into real amps. However, there is a specific use where I want to run a single real amp and a modeled amp as the other side of the stereo chain. Can I do this within the editor/interface? I would need to put an amp block on the right side signal only. Thanks and sorry if this has been answered - Searching for "Stomp Amps Left Only" or Right Only doesn't give any useful search results...
  19. I’m setting up my HX Stomp as part of my pedalboard and want to put my Strymon Blue Sky in the FX loop of the Stomp. Before the FX loop, in the Stomp chain, I have delays that are in stereo, so ideally I would want to keep the signal stereo after that. How do I keep the signal in stereo into the FX loop, seeing as the send on the stomp only is one jack? Do I need to get a 1/4 stereo split cable going from the FX send into the Blue Sky left and right, to then send left and right in two separate cables back into the return of the stomp?
  20. Hi Folks, After lots of learning from others here, thought I would give back with a fun work-around for getting a USB based FX Loop (or send / return) working with the Stomp. I have been playing with the HX Stomp for the past week trying to get a setup that allows me to send a signal to an external Laptop for processing and then return it into the block chain. I want to make this as resilient to failure as possible, so having this as insert inside the Stomp allows me to bypass in the rare event of a system crash. I am using Ableton Live for some wacky Max4Live processing, allowing me to use the Stomp for more generic duties like modelling, dynamics and modulation effects. I am running my stomp straight from my Bass guitar, and into a clean amp. All blocks need to be mono for this config to work. Source (Bass Guitar) into Mono (L) inout of the Stomp, and then Mono (L) output to amp. Its important to pan your main L/R output path in the final block to Left, as this free's up the Right output for the return from the USB feed. Create an FX Loop R Block. Keeping trails on and then assigning a CC controller (exp pedal) to the Mix value will really make this fun and flexible. Add a small patch lead from the Send Output (I just used a standard mono jack guitar lead) to the Right Input of the stomp. On your Laptop and chosen Application ( I am using Ableton here), select the Stomp as the USB interface and set the processing track/channel to use USB Input #4. Add your desired DSP plugins etc and then route this channel out USB Output #2. Connect a Patch cable from the Stomp Output Right to the Return Right. All I/O in my instance was set to Instrument level, and the send and return levels matched the internal Stomp block path really well, but you can adjust this in your DAW or the Stomp FX Loop block settings. The scope for fun this way is vast. I was trying out some pitch tracking tools and MaxForLive patches, converting the input into low synth lines, then goofing around with some granular clouds. By being an FX Loop block on the stomp, I could move this around to either feed or be fed by the Looper Block. You can even split the FX Loop into a Send and Return to increase your scope for mangling. I measured the latency with a Max Patch I have made, and the Stomp by itself measures between 1.4ms and 1.7ms depending on the blocks chosen. Adding in Ableton Live, with the buffer set to 256, this added another 15.9ms. You can use lower buffers, but you will get the occasion buffer underun glitch. As I am mostly generating 100% wet FX within Ableton, and the Stomp is processing the direct signal, you get the best of both worlds. I have used Ableton on hundreds of live performances, and have to say that its amazingly stable - it has crashed only once in that time, and that was due to a naughty third-party convolution plugin, that swiftly got replaced by the Max convolver, so I am not too concerned about stability. Having the Stomp as the core to my sound and now as the Audio Interface into and out out Ableton is just amazing! If the Line 6 developers / product managers are listening in these forums, it would be so much cleaner to extend the USB Audio routing to allow this configuration without resorting to turning the Stomp into a cable-octopus. Ideally this audio routing would then allow us to do this FX Loop via USB in Stereo. Attached is a pic of the Stomp and a blank Preset with the FX Loop block and routing done. Have fun. 21. I recently bought an HX Stomp. I had hoped to be able to connect the effects loops to two, independent chains in order to use the HX stomp to control routing to one or more outboard distortion pedals (KoT, heavily modded BD2). Here’s what I tried: HX stomp - stereo send jack- 1/4” TRS- dual 1/4” TS - each of these connected to inputs of my overdrive pedals. Output from pedal A-HX stomp return L, output from pedal B-HX stomp return R. I was able to get the signal routing, but - it’s still stereo, and thus, only affecting one side of the path. I had hoped that I would be able to treat everything “before the amp emulation” as mono, and then it becomes stereo after the amp/cab blocks. Worst case scenario, I was hoping for a utility type block that would sum the FX Loop L (or FX loop R) into a mono / dual mono signal, if placed immediately after an FX loop. I assume my problems are exacerbated since I am using HX stomp in stereo, rather than just having a single mono cable out. So, what’s the trick to this - is there an easy solution, or should I just stick the dirt in front of the HX? It would be nice to leave the dirt on all the time and control switching at the HX (in conjunction with any additional midi controllers or foot switches I may add in the future).
  22. Hello, Im still new to the digital world and Im in the learning curve with the HX Stomp. I have done some presets but I still don't feel 100% satisfied with them I know I can have a preset that will sound even better. Is there out there an all around preset that I can download?.. something good for classic rock and blues stuff... something I can use to play from Eric Clapton to Led Zeppelin.
  23. Hi, I recently added my old block phase 90 in front of my HX Stomp. When I run it into my high gain rhythm tone and compare it to the build in model the original has much more depth and "Chaos" than the Script Mod Phase model (I added the model at the beginning of the chain). The Effect of the Phase 90 is much more perceptible.... I find that also with other modulation effects like the Ui-Vibe. Its not that they sound bad, just not enough ..... wet dirty etc. Any ideas? Regards, Marco
  24. I've been loving the HX Stomp for the past month or so, but there is one limiting factor that I can't seem to find a workaround for. What I would like to do is sum several EQ blocks into a single Impulse Response in order to save DSP power (like was done in this video). However, unlike in the full Helix, the USB in/out selection options in HX Edit seem to not be nearly as flexible on the Stomp. This means that when I try to use deconvolution software to make the IR (I'm using the Impulse Response Utility through MainStage), it won't let me because I can only chose USB 5/6 on the input (which are the re-amping slots that bypass the Stomp's effects) and the only output option is the 1/4 line outs on the back of the Helix. Therefore, when I do the audio sweep to make the IR, it doesn't work because the sweep doesn't input through the helix effects and won't come out through USB (unless I'm doing it wrong...). Does anybody have any ideas on how to get around this? Here are some links that have gotten me close to an answer, but I'm out of my league here when it comes to understanding how to get what I'm after... Thanks for your help in advance, this is my first time posting here! -How to use the Stomp as an audio interface -How to make an impulse response on a mac -Converting SDIR files to WAV -Relevant forum discussion
  25. Hello, So my main option for now is to use the HX Stomp as another pedal in my pedalboard (mainly for modulation effects like delay, reverb, tremolo, etc..). I have some questions about the overdrive section. How good or which OD in the HX Stomp sounds good when using a tube amp?.. Im gonna upload a photo of my pedalboard for reference. My other question is... Im using a Tumnus mini and I would like to know if its a good idea to usa a booster from the HX Stomp or buy an analog booster?. Im using a Fender Blues Deluxe Tube Amp and the HXS is connected with the 4CM so I can put my modulations through the amp's effects loop.
