Im trying to find a way to run my Helix LT live. Before i got it, my rig was a dual rectifier+ pedalboard into a Mesa 4x12, but i also use an EVH 5150iii and a Peavey 5150 both into their own EVH 4x12's for an overly bulky live stereo set up. Now, with the EVH/Peavey, i can plug into the fx return of both and get what i need coming out of the 4x12's, easily and simply like everyone says. But with my Dual Rectifier; holy cow is it noisy. Not only is there so much hissing, it is also just freakishly loud. By the time i get to 'room volume' the vol. knob on the helix is so low it isnt useful. Iv read somewhere on here about a guy with a Mesa Mark IV and it sounded like he had a similar problem, but a solution wasnt posted. i tried the 4cm, but im trying to bypass the head altogether so i can simulate one. The EVH+Peavey rigs are not mine, so i need to figure out the problem with my Mesa, or find a little FRFR setup; in which case i can use some power amp recommendations. Also getting a 50w EVH doesnt sound bad as i know i can plug straight into that fx return. Or am i simply overlooking something with the Dual Rec? Its an older model and isnt the quietest on it own; especially in the fx loop. But it should still be useful, right?

Hi everyone! I am a begginer with PODHD 500x, that's why I need your help. I dowloaded differents patches from the LINE 6 website, and when I tried them at home everything worked fine. When I went to play with my band in our small room, I attached the POD direct in front of a combo (LINE 6 SPIDER IV - CLEAN). Problem is that when I play a distorted patch, it start to whistle and make unsupportable noise. I read on http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/setup This that I report: "I recommend setting your output mode to the appropriate non-"Studio/Direct" mode. If you want to use your Pod for both "direct" and "live" purposes, I recommend leaving the output mode as "Studio/Direct" and setting your "live" patches up with "no cab" as your cabinet selection. When you use "no cab", you get the same output in every output mode (more-or-less) - all cab/mic simulation is simply disabled. " Now what I would like to try is to set INPUT 1: GUITAR and INPUT 2: VARIAX for all the patches; And then I would like to put this "no cab" suggested, but I don't really understand how to do this. About the "mixer" Path A and Path B should be Centered ? Or should I leave it 100%R and 100%L? May you help me through this? Any other reccomandations?

Hello to everybody, I’m thinking about buying the M20D(maybe used if I get a super deal), and switch my band setup from analog to digital, mainly for ease of setup, our situation is pretty typical (drum bass guitars voice and a few sequence), so we will be using always the same scene, with small adjustments regarding the venue or a few guests. I already checked how this mixer works and I think it can do everything we need in a nice package, but I’m here to ask for help, since I tried it once and it was super cool, but it isn't mine so I cannot check every feature, so please I will be glad if any expert user could tell me if I’m gettin’ it right or not. For live use I will need a complete channel strip for the Singer, so eq-compressor-deesser-(enhancer)-reverb, independent from other channels. For drums, eq for all channels and compressor for overhead kick and maybe snare. For guitars and bass, eq. For main out, limiter and eq. Can I do everything with integrated efx in the M20D without linking external units? For Home studio use, I understand it can do as an USB audio interface for windows 10 machines, so I can sell my focusrite Scarlett and Motu 8pre and link the Line6 with Cubase with the same functionality, right? Or I can use it only to record live performance on SD or usb cards? We are afraid to loose a little bit of quality since now we are using an Allen Heat Zed22fx which is a great analog mixer, but I’m confident that with an integrated digital mixer I can balance things much more precisely. Hello good people! I was considering getting the hd500x because it fits perfectly on my budget, but i couldn't find anywhere an answer to this question: Can you connect your pod to foh (with cab emulation) and to a poweramp and cab (without cab emulation) simultaneously? if not, that would be a deal breaker :/ I've downloaded the edit software and discovered that using a dual amp setup i could turn off the simulation on one, so theoretically if i pan them hard to the sides i could do what i want? Hello community! I'm kind of new here, I checked the compatibility post for pedals but I didn't get something. Can someone explain which devices are supposed to be compatible with a POD xt Live? I recently bought it used (as the best option according my wallet) and I was reading the manual to check about recording. I saw something about I could use a pedalboard as an extension and link it somehow to record what I play and play it background to jam. If this is possible, which pedalboard is the best for my multiefect? Or which is my multiefect for the compatibility list? (example: pro xt even when yours is xt live) Thanks for the help.

Hi all Im very new the world of wireless. Recently bought the Relay G90 and ive jamming with it for a few months and a couple of local shows with it and it worked a dream. Only problem i have now is, i had my first international support with it and the headlining band was using wireless systems aswell. My wireless was cutting in and out during sound test and i had to use a guitar cable in. Can anyone provide any help on why this would happen and how to fix it. The G90 runs off 2.4ghz digital wireless system as im sure most of you are aware. Im not sure the exact system the headlining band was using.

Any advice on the best live setup using my current gear? I'm not looking to use any crazy patches or amp sims, just a pretty basic live guitar setup. Current Gear: Pod HD500X Boss Digital Delay Pedal Boss Flange Pedal Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (genre: progressive metal) Since I don't own an Overdrive or Noise gate pedal (two essentials), is there any issue with me using the Pod in front of my amp using a patch with only an OD and Gate? Any I can then put my delay and flange in my Mesa effects loop. Ideally I'd want to start collecting pedals and stop using the Pod for live gigs, but for now this is what I've got. What I've been doing is using the pod in front of my amp like stated, but also having time based effects on there to use as needed. However I know these effects should really be in the FX loop, which is why I'm thinking of this new setup using my old Boss pedals. I've never tried the 4 cable method, but I feel that's too complicated for what I want to get out of the Pod. Thanks!

I have a gig next weekend and plan on using my Helix directly into a PA. I was wondering, how should I adjust my presets (equalize) so that I can cut through the mix well, while still having a killer tone? A preset made in a room will NOT sound the same when played in a live setting (with drummer, bass, etc). I have heard that I should boost my mids to cut through the mix well, so maybe I should do that. What do you all think? Do any of you have good live presets you would like to share with me? Or explain your methodology behind creating your preset? The songs I'm playing live with a band include the following: - Bubble Dream by Chon - Book by Chon - Elliptical Illuminations by Chon Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated :)

For Mac: 1) Launch Live, go to 'Live -> Preferences -> File Folder' 2) Make sure that 'Use Audio Units' and 'Use VST Plug-in System Folders' are turned on. 3) If the steps above are not working, please try re-scanning for it again by clicking 'Re-scan Plug-ins' For Windows: 1) Launch Live, go to 'Options -> Preferences -> File Folder' 2) Make sure that 'Use VST Plug-in System Folders' are turned on. 3) Make sure the correct location is chosen under the VST Plug-in Custom Folder option. The location of the plug-in files depend on the location setting made during installation. The default locations are as below: 64-bits - C:\Program Files\VST Plugins 4) If the steps above are not working, please try re-scanning for it again by clicking 'Re-scan Plug-ins'

At the moment I don't have an amp or any speaker to plug my pod into so I can't test my patch out with a high volume, and I have practice next week so I don't want to waste everyone's time trying to figure out which settings to adjust.... so is there a way to raise the volume on the patch and keep the same tone that you currently have? if not, then which settings(mids, gain, bass, etc..) should i start adjusting? higher or lower? I'm going to be plugging in the pod into the system, on the XLR out, should I be plugging it on both left and right or is plugging it in on one side fine? Is there a certain setting, besides the amp volume, that should be the same on all the patches in order to keep the same volume on all of them.

So I've been playing guitar for a few years now, but I never really got around to learning how to make the "perfect" patch or sound for me, and honestly I still get lost when it comes to finding a good sound. I know about this^ website providing patches from other users, but honestly they sound good until you start playing with other instruments. I own a Schecter Blackjack SLS with the Floyd Rose and Sustaniac, with a Seymour Duncan TB-10 Full Shred Humbucker on the Bridge. I play at my church so I would really appreciate if someone could help me out on figuring out a sound that would sound good with this guitar and also sound good live. I will be plugged into the system, not an amp. Next week is my church's anniversary so I want to have a really good sound by then, for those that decide to help me, I am trying to look the basics, a clean patch, rhythm patch, and a solo patch, and for those that have experience with playing at a church, i am not looking for a sound like hillsong, at our church we like to play a little more "rock." Hi folks. I am a HELIX newb, so please go gently! Can anyone advise me how best to achieve the following live rig/setup using Helix as my guitar amp/effects rack and as my audio interface between my DAW and PA/backline? 1. I need to use my DAW to play recorded synths/keys (I'll be using wavs from DAW not midi). 2. I will also need a click track on a separate audio output which will go through a mini mixer which the drummer can control (drummer will then be able to hear click and monitor mix in headphones). 3. I'll be using Helix for guitar with output to an FRFR speaker which I was thinking I'd use in front of me (wedge monitor). 4. Everything, including rest of band, goes to FoH PA and stage monitors. My questions: A) Can I use Helix as the audio interface with one stereo output for synths/keys and another to route click through to drummer's mixer (both from DAW)? If so, how? B) Would you bother having a separate output for the guitar to its own speaker or would you just have a full-monitor mix of the whole band? (I'm nervous of the latter having only ever played with my guitar amp behind me. I'd also like to be able to control guitar feedback independently of monitor mix). Advice very much welcomed. Any diagrams of how you'd set this up would also be super helpful. Best wishes Simon

Hi. A friend of mine plans on using the Helix as a Bass Preamp for Live usage. He does not want to go In-Ears or some silent-stage-stuff, rather he likes to get his massive analog bass-tone on stage, using the Helix and some kind of speaker-system. The tone should be amplified over his Gallien-Krueger Bassamp, using the Effects-Return to feed the solid state output stage. Which FRFR speaker-system would a Bass-Player prefer for the look & feel and the most versatile bass-sound? Is it best to go 2x15 passive PA-System Speaker or will a 1x15 do the job for bass? Or shall he still use his two 4x10 Trace-Elliot cabs driven from out the GK-Amp? A active FRFR would be no alternative, because he likes to have a amp on the cab for optical reasons ;) -
I know there are lots of threads about using the 4CM with tube amps but I couldn't really find what I was looking for, so, here goes another one. The idea is this, I have a marshall JCM 2000 DSL100, I want to use my marshall's preamp for distortion and the pod hd500x's preamp for my clean sounds. I'm connecting my guitar to the pod's guitar input, the pod's main output to my amp's fx retunr, my amp's fx send to the pod's fx return, and the pod's fx send to my amp's input. For my dirty tone I basically created a pach with basically a noise gate, a wah, and a tube screamer, I leave the amp block empty and after the mixer I put the "FX loop" block and after that a delay and a reverb. For my clean channel, I put the Fx block at the very start of the signal chain, after that, a chorus, phaser, a fender amp (without the cab sim) and after the mixer, delays, reverb, etc. So, my first problem is that while I was testing this configuration today, I realized that the "clean" tone sounded a lot louder than the dirty channel, my amp's preamp (btw, I also noticed that after putting the pod in the signal chain there's a general volume drop in the amp, but I don't mind as long as it sounds right) so, the things is, I can lower the clean amp (pod's amp simulation) but when I do, it affects the amp's simulation tone, If I lower the master volume, my dirty channel loses input so it lowers the distortion, so: 1 - What would be the best way to approach this problem and get balanced levels without affecting the tone too much? 2 - Is the order I place the effects (for both the dirty and the clean patches)correct or is there a more recommendable way to do it? 3 - Also, in the back of my amp, there's a loop level switch (-10/+4 effects) where should I leave it? 4 - If I'm not using any external effects, should I set my pod's out to stomp or line level? because for me it makes sense to leave it at "line" but I've read a few topics where people recommended to leave it at stomp with amps and stuff like that anyway. So i bought the hd500x recently and am loving it but when i try to practice a whole song with multiple presets being used it shows syncing on the screen as i swap even when i havent changed any presets! im afraid that when i play live it will do this and will make preset changing impossible. My pod is plugged into hd500x edit is that the problem?? please help thanks

This is really just a quick note to say that after a total of about 4 hours playing round with the Helix through my Blackstar Artist 30, I'm getting some great results. I really want Helix for live performance, and to be able to switch between a few different basic amp sounds. So I'm going 4CM through the Artist. The Artist is a great base amp for this type of thing - tons of clean headroom, and a nice neutral power amp section. I bought it to replace an Orange TH30, which was an amp I totally loved, but which really can only do one thing, and had notoriously little headroom. I have to say that experience so far with the Helix and the Artist is really good. The Cali Rec Amp without any cab just sounds fantastic, and is going to be my go to solution for most classic rock numbers. It sounds much grittier and more authentic to my ears going through the Artist than it did going through a stagesource L3, but that's just my ears. If anyone is wonder about a good solution for live performance using a real amp, this could be it.

Hi. I've got HD500X and I love it. I'm going to rehearse in studio with it and my question is> will I need addition guitar amp using with HD500X? Or is it enough to play just with HD500X and back closed cabinets? Will I get that deep fat distortion through cabinets only with HD500X? Thank you.

Hi Folks. My first post here. I have been researching the Helix as well as the AX8. I am 32, been playing tube amps for 12 years now. I have a lollipop pedal board because I am too cheap to overpay the ridiculous pedal train asking price. I find that no matter what tube amp i have(I've had a lot) there are always limitations with how i channel switch and use effects. I am in a gigging modern high gain metal/rock band and I am looking to simplify my rig. Currently, I am running this setup: Guitar=>pedal board(tuner, decimator, overdrive, flashback delay)=> laney ironheart=>mesa cab. What i am trying to understand, is whether I can replace my current rig with this: Guitar=>Helix=>poweramp=>mesa cab. My BIGGEST concern, is TONE. I want that great tube tone I've gotten out of my amps. I don't want the positive grid bias sound or the pod sound. I don't see many people using the Helix as their sole guitar tone source(aka no tube amp). Before I buy a Helix, should I feel confident in the setup I am proposing and the sound I am hoping to capture? Are there any limitations that I should be aware of? Hi Guys, I'm fully sick as a sound guy, and I mean that in a BAD way. I'm totally useless - never have I had the knack of pulling great sound. I'm a very experienced live gig muso, but I really can't pull live sound to save myself. As much as I have tried, I can't seem to make our 3-piece band sound clean/good quality at our live pub gigs with my beloved M20D - maybe because I'm busy playing? Might any kind souls out there be interested in getting my trio band's M20D soundcheck file emailed to them, and having a crack at engineering it properly for me on their M20D, then email it back to me so I can upload the settings etc back into my M20D for a presumably WAY more pro-quality sound? Is this possible with the M20D? I'd be happy to pay for your effort, particularly if you're a professional live engineer, or just a monster with the M20D? Hoping someone might get in touch to help out. I love this thing, but I'm sinking rather than swimming, and the pub bosses aren't happy..! Cheers, Stu. -
Had a question on using my helix live. Want to run it through my old 4x12. I read somewhere that I could use a power amp to go directly in to the cab without having to use another amp. On the other hand ive debated buying a powered speaker and just running through that. I'm kinda stuck. What does everyone think?

Bear with me here...there is a question further down I promise. For years I have been running a Bogner Ecstasy for live performance. In the last couple of years I have beefed up the setup with a head and rack combo case, ground control pro, voodoo labs control switcher, and a voodoo labs GCX audio switcher. I have a few stomp boxes on a rack shelf and everything is controlled via the ground controller to work the control switcher for amp channel selecting and GCX (Turning loops on and off). This setup sounds great, so there isn't anything broken here. I just purchased the Helix rack for studio mainly, to possibly replace my eleven rack I have had since its initial release. Now, for my question: To have some versatility, I was wondering the best way to run the helix into the ecstasy (which still feels wrong to think about doing it, although I am still waiting to get the helix shipped this week so I have never played one). Other option is to purchase a separate rack power amp and leave the Bogner head and effects rack at home. For now, what would be the best way to run this through the ecstasy head? I have tried to run the 11R in the past into the head and I could never get a good sound...but I am sure it was the way I was doing it. Thanks, G

Hello I am trying to implement a channel change in Ableton Live 9.5 with M9, i.e to make M9 send some MIDI program change or another message that will switch between the channels. I tried using the MIDI mapper to assign Scene Change mesages from M9 to the Session Recording buttons (works perfectly with KEY mapping and a normal computer keyboard). However all I'm getting is a weird mapping interpreted as Pitchbend messages (see attached image). When trying it out nothing really happens. In the M9 Advanced Manual there is a MIDI map for scene select in Appendix A but I can't say I understand it: Scene Select Memory Location Program Change # Scene Selected Scene 1A (Fldr 1; 3) 0 (Fldr 1); 12 (Fldr 3) 1A (Fldr 1); 1A (Fldr 3) Scene 1B (Fldr 1; 3) 1 (Fldr 1); 13 (Fldr 3) 1B (Fldr 1); 1B (Fldr 3) Scene 2A (Fldr 1; 3) 2 (Fldr 1); 14 (Fldr 3) 2A (Fldr 1); 2A (Fldr 3) ... Hi everyone, really hope someone can help. I best start with my live setup... Krank Revolution series 1 head Pod HDPro Marshall 4x12 Ibanez RGD 7 string Basically, I'm looking for any help getting a high gain, dual amp sound. I literally just read that the best sound for the setup I'm using would be to use pre amp models instead of full, but I won't have chance to test this theory til our show on Saturday. At the moment, I'm using the Angel F-ball with parametric EQ in front (I've got the usual tube screamer, compressor, gates etc as well) with no cab sim for the first chain. Second part of the chain I'm using the Uber (pretty much same setup on the f-ball with different gain, eq and bias settings). It all sounds pretty thin and fizzy and super processed. That heavy saturated, dual amp Arch Enemy style tone is similar to what I want to achieve. Thoughts on whether pre would be better? My clean channel is also dual (clean) amps (no cab sim), but it's still super quiet. Lead is similar to my rhythm channel with more mids, tiny bit more gain, delay and a chorus. I was looking into the 4 cable method and using the tone from the Krank (best scenario), but I don't have a midi foot controller to be able to change patches and amp channels. Plus that thing is LOUD... Another thing I was going to mention was the whole delay trail thing while switching channels, but I guess that's something I'll have to live with. I do miss having that little trail off after a solo when switching back to rhythm. Bit too static with the HDPro :( Anyway, if any of you can make sense of this immense mass of words, it would be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge help! Thanks in advance!

my helix arrives tomorrow, so perhaps this will become obvious once I start fiddling with the unit, BUT.. What are the primary differences between the two modes: preset & stombox?? From an application standpoint, I mean. I would love to have 5 or 6 FS assigned to different amp stacks. None of these amp stacks will have any fx built-in. I would also like 2 or 3 FS assigned to my most used delay & verb. I plan on running most of my spacial & modulation fx through the fx loops to my eventide h9's...using the helix mainly for different amp tones. I'm in a gigging cover band, & I'm trying to envision what type of tap-dance I will have to do during a show.
