  1. Hi all, I'm Chris. A couple days ago - and completely on a whim - I put in an offer on an HX Stomp and won it for a price I didn't expect. After a weekend spent searching for answers on how to make it work for my rig, I give up and this is my first post. I have a couple amplifiers and I've been looking for somewhat of an "all in one" pedalboard solution for a while. My main amp is a Mesa Triple Crown 50, which (as I'm sure many of you are aware) has MIDI channel switching capabilities, an FX loop, all that jazz. I've been looking at replacing a good chunk of my pedal board (SA Nemesis Delay, Boss DC-2w, Walrus Audio Lilian Phaser, EHX Pitch Fork, Wampler Ego Comp) for a while and don't doubt the HX series, on a high level, has what it takes to do the job. I intend on fully utilizing the 4-cable method to make the most of it. Here's my dilemma. The TC-50 is a three-channel amplifier and has MIDI control over channel switching, FX loop, reverb and solo boosts. In a perfect world, I would have access to all three channels and solo boost in various combinations along with various effects from the HX. Ideally, I'd be able to access 6-8 presets encompassing channel switching/effects combinations readily. I was sold on the HX Effects (due in part to the additional loop to add a fuzz/drive/gate pedal on top) until I read about latency when using MIDI to switch amp settings. The snapshot workaround isn't something that'd work for me when limited to 4 per preset. So, enter the need for a MIDI controller. I've looked at them all at this point, from Disaster Area to BOSS to Morningstar. It seems as though the Morningstar MC6 MKII is the gold standard. Here's the big question - can I use an external MIDI controller to switch amplifier channels while simultaneously pulling up different effects combinations on the HX Stomp/Effects without lag/latency issues? And, as an alternative, would there be any benefits to adding a Boss ES-8, if for nothing else, to be able to switch amplifier channels while sorting effects placement, if I added an overdrive/boost/etc pedal to the mix? Would an HX Effects/Morningstar combo make more sense for that? Agh! Thanks in advance -- I should also note that there's a decent chance I'm overthinking this. :)
  2. Hello all, This is my first post in the community, and I'm wondering where I can learn how to automate my Helix Rack to properly and effectively change presets as well as manipulate the values of individual chain loaded effects. Here is what I'm looking to accomplish with Helix (for live use) and as of right now I know nothing of where to start: I'm running my show with Ableton live 9 lite. I want to use MIDI tracks (envelope automation) in Ableton to change my patches throughout the songs and set, as well as automate the toggling the on/off of stompboxes and delay/reverb swells & ramp-ups of the mix percentage within each patch. All I know is that I need to assign the parameters in which I want to control to the open MIDI CC channels in Helix, but I do not know how to technically achieve this the most effective and proper way. Any input or direction to reading materials on this subject is greatly appreciated. Like i said, I know nothing about this process. Thanks! Midi Tempo Sync Issue

Hi. I own Helix LT with the latest firmware. I use it with my DAW. The Helix is set to receive tempo from the DAW via midi cable connections. It works but the issue is the tempo in Helix is not in sync with the DAW. Sometimes the tempo is spot on and in sync. Most of the times the tempo is correct but not in sync. Sometimes the tempo doesn't match by 1 or 2 bpm. Does anybody use this feature and working correctly? Is there a workaround? The exact same thing happened with my POD HD500X and I never got it to work. I ended up sending MIDI CC messages of tap tempo to the pod.

    Midi Sync - Ver. 2.71 - help

I cannot get the midi clock from my sequencer to affect the tempos in Helix. What am I doing wrong? Where can find good documentation? I'm using an MPC 1000 sequencer - it's midi out is plugged into the midi in of the Helix. Nothing is happening at all.
  6. Hi everybody. I have an issue. I recently bought the Behringer V-amp pro and i will like to use it with my Line 6 M13 as a midi controller. I can do that, when i am in the mode scene, i can change the presets right on the v-amp pro, but when i try to add an effect of my M13 the settings on the v-amp are changed too... Can somebody explain me how can i solve this mistery?? Connections: M13 into the loop (stereo) of the V-amp for all my modulations/effects, and also connected by a midi cable to change the amps. Thanks
  7. Hi, Just got a Helix rack and I'm new to this forum, but since Helix is so new to the world, I couldn't find any suggestions on Google. So far I've been very pleased, but *I think* I've discovered quite a limitation. Am I right in thinking there is not a MIDI command that can bypass or engage an effect block? I know there are CC49-58 which act like the footswitches, but they toggle the bypassed state, not set it explicitly. Every other effects processor I've used (inc the M13) was able set an effect "on" or "off" using MIDI. For example, on the M13, setting CC11 to 127 turned the bottom left effect "on", setting CC11 to 0, turned the effect "off". Am I right in thinking that with the Helix, we can only toggle effects? This means if I'm doing a song and an effect is toggled accidentally, or a MIDI command is missed, then that effect will be in the wrong state for the rest of the song, not just until it is next bypassed/activated. This just seems kind of crazy to me!? I've tried setting the footswitch assignment to momentary instead of latching, but then CC49-58 have no effect (which I believe is by design). I also know you can use controller assignment on the "mix" of an effect, then dial it down to 0% when you want it off and 100% when you want it on. But that's a workaround at best, and many of the effect blocks don't have a "mix" parameter (amps, cabs, EQ...). I was kind of disappointed with the MIDI implementation on the M13, which was a fabulous piece of hardware, but lacking thorough MIDI control. When I looked through the manual of the Helix, I thought "Oh man, this thing can do it all!". But if I'm now going to find you can't reliably turn effect on and off with MIDI, I'm going to feel a bit robbed :( Cheers, David

  9. I've been racking my brain over this for a while. Granted, I'm pretty much a MIDIot, although having finally taken a class on MIDI last Spring (mainly covered electronic music development, sadly) I just can't seem to figure this out: I have a Helix Floor connected to my Mac via USB I have an Akai MPK Mini connected to my Mac via USB How can I get the MPK to bypass a footswitch or change a parameter on my Helix? Thanks in Advance
  10. I have a setup where the Helix LT controls a Beatbuddy (drummachine) and a Boomrang looper through midi. When I change presets on the Helix the Beatbuddy automatically changes to the right song. It works really well, until today. I would like to be able to change guitars during a song. Playing the acoustic while singing, and then change to the electric for a solo. The problem is that when I change preset during a song, the Helix sends out a midi command that changes the drum beat on the Beatbuddy. I have removed all midi messages from command center. When I change to an empty preset I have the same problem. So my question is this. How do I make sure that the Helix does not send any midi messages, when I change presets?

HX Stomp and Disaster Area DMC-6D

hey! lurker, first time poster, HX Stomp owner and i love it. being a n00b with midi, i bought a very well-priced controller off Reverb, but i'm SO confused as to how to use it or if it's even usable. this would be a Disaster Area DMC-6D, which is the previous gen of DA controllers. i was under the impression that midi was universal, but the Stomp won't recognize the DMC in 'Learn' mode while i'm trying to set up a bypass on one of my blocks. tried updating the firmware on the controller, having issues with that, too. anyone willing to walk me through this? or at least point me towards a thread that has some better info. do i need to sell this thing and get a different controller?

    Midi CC Feature desperately needed

Hey There! Love love love my Helix. However, I noticed a feature that I REALLY need regarding the Midi CC Command for footswitches. There is no Dim Value for these which is problematic. I'm trying to control my Boss RC-505 looper through Midi and it works great EXCEPT it will only fire the the first time. Any subsequent commands are permenentaly stuck at whatever MIDI value I sent it rather than going back to zero so it can reset for the next command firing. If I can get a DIM value, like on the Midi Toggle but for the Momentary MIDI CC command that would really make my rig a dream come true. I figure that'd be an easy thing to add in a future update but I could be wrong. What are the chances of that happening?

    Pod hd500x and H&K Tubemeister 36 midi

Hi everybody, I am totally new to midi and can't figure this one out; I have the pod HD500x connected to my H&K Tubemeister 36 via 4-cable method and a midi cable. After spending some time I found out how to set it up so that I can use the foot switches to change the channels on the amp but the problem is that the effects which are stored on the other footswitches don't seem to work anymore? Anybody know how to fix this? Also I would like to know if it's possible that you put several commands on 1 FS? For instance; when I press FS1 I get my clean channel on the amp and at the same time the chorus-effect switches on, can that be done? And if yes, how? Hope somebody can help.... Thanks guys

    HX STOMP MIDI RECALLING PRESET

Hello friends! I have a problem that I would like to help me solve. Before I used my M9 and controlled it through my G-Lab Gsc3. I assigned a swtich (example # 1) of my controller and it called me to a scene inside a certain folder on my M9. I could turn a stomp on or off within that scene but at the MOMENT OF ME RETURNING THE SWTICH (# 1) OF MY CONTROLLER THE SCENE BACKED BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STATUS (I used it in manual save). The point here is that so many times I stepped on my swtich # 1, so many times this recalling that assigned scene. Now, I have made the jump to the HX STOMP and I am very happy with all the midi options, however I can not get my controller to recalling the same preset. That is, if in preset 1A I modify the tap tempo and then step my swtich # 1 (of my controller) it does not call the preset 1A again so the tap tempo does not return to its original recorded state. In the same way with the FS you can assign as stomp or snaps and other parameters. As a detail, my G-Lab has a recalling option which I have activated (since before I used it like that on my M9) but I do not know why the HX STOMP does not work that way. I hope for help with this problem. Thank you!
  15. Hi folks. New Helix LT user here. I am having an issue with Command Center specifically configuring midi note on messages, to control the looping functions of my Elektron Octatrack. I have setup 2 switches in Command Center, both momentary. The first sends midi note 62 (D4), the second sends midi note 64(E4). It works, but for some reason one or both switches keep reverting back to midi note C1. I keep recreating the patch, saving it, but it keeps happening. Any ideas? Very frustrating, as if it would just retain my configured notes, it would work perfectly. The only thing I am not sure of is the capacative touch switches. Is it possible that I am touching the switch and moving the expression pedal to a value of zero and this is changing the setting? I have tried to recreate this scenario and can't. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    DIY MIDI program change footswitch

    I made a two-button footswitch for changing Helix patches up and down, using a generic (Elegoo) Arduino Nano board. It sends MIDI program change messages, and is endlessly customizable. Complete parts list: Hammond 1590a enclosure Elegoo nano (set of three for cheap https://www.amazon.com/Arduino-Elegoo-ATmega328P-without-compatible/dp/B0713XK923 ) two SPST momentary (normally open) switches LED and 220 ohm resistor (optional) panel-mount MIDI jack panel-mount 9v jack (optional, easy to power from 9v battery--Nano draws only 25mA, and only 37mA while LED is lit) hookup wire My code is pasted below. Entire project took less than two hours, and cost less than dinner. // midi.controller // Sends midi program change // Aaron Lyon April 2018 #include <MIDI.h> MIDI_CREATE_DEFAULT_INSTANCE(); byte patchNum = 0; #define BUTTON_PIN_1 2 #define BUTTON_PIN_2 3 #define LED_PIN 13 void setup() { pinMode(BUTTON_PIN_1, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(BUTTON_PIN_2, INPUT_PULLUP); pinMode(LED_PIN, OUTPUT); MIDI.begin(MIDI_CHANNEL_OMNI); } void loop() { if (digitalRead(BUTTON_PIN_1) == LOW && patchNum < 99) { // Next Program digitalWrite(LED_PIN, HIGH ); patchNum++; MIDI.sendProgramChange(patchNum, 1); delay(200); digitalWrite(LED_PIN, LOW ); } if (digitalRead(BUTTON_PIN_2) == LOW && patchNum >= 1) { // Next Program digitalWrite(LED_PIN, HIGH ); patchNum--; MIDI.sendProgramChange(patchNum, 1); delay(200); digitalWrite(LED_PIN, LOW ); } }
  17. Hi all. I currently use a Joyo looper to control my non midi pedal set up. The unit has a midi out and I'm looking for any basic guidance / tips on how I cold integrate a HX unit into the rig. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    HELIX FLOOR MIDI SYNC FX

Hello! Is there in Helix Floor, any posibility to sync tempo-based effects to external midi-clock? Always when i'm sending tempo, TAP blinks blue, thats fine. But if choose like filter step-frequency (or any other tempo-based parameter) to for example 1\4, it does nothing, not matching external-BPM. The same is for delay, tremolo, phaser etc.
  19. Hi ! I'm using pod farm 2 on my ux8 for live sound with a dual footswitch connected at the back of the ux8. I would like to make it so that on one patch (and on this patch only), one of my footswitch is assigned to tap tempo. The problem is I didn't find how to do it, I can only set it globally which is a problem because this footswitch has other usages on other patches (including time related effects :/) Is there any way to have the tap tempo assigned to a midi control but only for one patch ?

    EVH 5150III 100W & MIDI Switching

Hi! Any experience with a following combo: EVH 5150III 100W head & HX Effects. Mainly the channel switching options. I read that the 100W-version is an oddball and does not actually support midi even though the FS connection is similar. I also found out that there are adapter cables out there that could fix this. So, if I buy this 7 pin to 5 pin adapter-cable, can the HX Effects change the channels for me or do I need an external switcher, e.g. RMJ Amp Gizmo or similar?

    MIDI Control of Mesa TC-50

I'm having a tough time getting my TC-50 head to respond to my Helix LT for amp control via MIDI. This is my first time attempting to use MIDI. I'm connected to the amp via 4cm, with the MIDI connected from the out on the helix to the in on the amp. I'm running the helix in snapshot mode. What I'm specifically trying to achieve is channel changes on the amp, along with standard effect/parameter changes in helix. Example: Footswitch 1: CLEAN on TC-50 with Helix reverb + delay Footswitch 2: LO on TC-50 with Helix overdrive + reverb Amps midi CC numbers/values for channels: CLEAN = CC 20 w/ value 64 - 127 LO = CC 21 w/ value 64 - 127 HI = CC 22 w/ value 64 - 127 Things to note. The amp also responds to midi program changes - I've noticed that if I scroll through the presets menu that my amp changes channels with varying features coming on and off. So for some reason helix is sending program changes when loading a preset. If I could isolate that function to snapshots I would also be happy, as I could use the amp's solo/reverb/fx loop options as well instead of just singular purpose CC messages. Any help much appreciated.
  22. Hello, I am new to this forum and bought a HX Stomp to accommodate my AX8 or simply have a tiny wonderbox that fits in my guitarcase, including guitar that is ;–) I hooked a Lehle Mini footswitch up to use it as FS4. Can’t find a solution to send a midi PC command from the footswitch to midi out of the stomp. Don’t tell me the stomp is limited to 3 PC messages that can only be sent by its own FS 1-3. I can switch a block on and off with the ext. FS, but can’t trigger that midi PC. I hoped for a better midi out implementation, but still love this little thingy...
  23. Hi there, I have been trying to figure how to change setlists/patches/snapshots with midi through ableton live. Having read the manual and had an extensive look here/online, I could gather that: Change a Setlist - CC32 - to whichever is needed Change a Patch - PC - to the relevant one Change a snapshot - CC69 - to the relevant snapshot The ultimate aim is that I run backing tracks through Live (as of up to now I have been running scenes for each song in session view) And can leave the Helix offstage, but having some issues. So I have been creating a midi clip under the audio track needed in arangemenrt view. As the setlist needed was the first one, I had not input anything CC32 wise, I had input the PC as the relevant patch, and then in the envelope, selected 69 and drawn a line between 0 and 3 to trigger the relevant snapshot as the track moves on through. My main issue is that at points I can do this and it seems to work fine, then I run the track again and just either doesnt work, or selects different snapshots. A few things that I had noticed: - For a patch change the PC number had to be 1 higher than the actual number for some reason? - When trying to change to a different setlist, I have had to put the bank as 36, the sub as the correct one (3 ikn this case) and then the PC as the correct one (2 in this case) and it would work. But then again I would try the track agian and just would not work. So am hoping/praying/begging that someone may be able to give me a breakdown on how to do this from scratch, am reletively new to midi so just working things out for myself, but seem to be hitting a brick wall. Ideally, where do I set the CC32 number to select the setlist, then the same with the patch and snapshot, and get this working in a live situation. Have attached a screenshot to show how the notes/envelope is setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated :) Many Many thanks Steve
  24. When I download a tone onto my Floor Pod Plus does the MIDI cable need to stay connected to the Floor Pod for it to work. For example, if I download a tone from custom tone and set it to 1a by overriding the preset, and then disconnect the Floor pod from the computer, will able able to click 1a on my floor pod and get that tone? It would make sense if this would be the case because the Vyzex software can communicate with the pod.
  25. I was wondering, what equipment is required to get tones which were downloaded from a computer into the Floor Pod Plus? I’ve been looking and have not been able to find a straight answer for this.
